Clockworkmod recovery - HTC Rezound

So no one has answered this question i have. Did kush fix cwm recovery? Is it still having the battery issue? Are there any issues at all with it? Are there fixes?

He's had that thing for awhile so I guess he just doesn't have time for it

As far as I am aware, there are no fixes for the battery issue.
Recovery has not been updated in a while, but there is a fix for creating nandroids. I'll post it here, if anyone is interested. Most everyone will advise you against using CWM at this point.

Install a real recovery like TWRP or Amon Ra. The threads are here. Just search.

But how do you do that when your Rezound won't boot b/c of CWM?

Cant boot as in? Wont power on or wont boot into the rom?

Won't boot, as in it won't power on or boot into the ROM (stock GB for me). It's the same thing that happens w/ the CWM battery issue, except my batter was not dead. How do people fix the CWM issue when their phones won't power on? The only answer I'm seeing is, "Just don't let it happen," but nothing about how to fix it once it does happen.

Pull the battery out. Put it back in. Hold power and volume down until you're in HBOOT. Download the recovery of your choice. Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img. Viola.

Dude, I swear I tried that several times ... For some reason, it worked after I read your response.
I think my issue was that I had it plugged in before when I tried that, and this time I tried it with the phone unplugged ... I don't know why that would make a difference?

What I am more curious about is why the recovery can have any impact at all on how the battery charges when the phone is off.. I haven't been able to wrap my brain around that since the issue became apparent..

The phone isn't actually off. The Rezound appears to startup in a "stealth" recovery state. At least while using CWM. I'll probably test the other recoveries as well.

It loads the recovery in a certain mode that doesn't activate the screen/buttons. Cwm doesnt have this working for us. If you would like more insight, flash your roms boot image to the recovery partition and turn it off. Then plug the phone in, wait a few minutes and call it. It will ring but the phone will be non responsive to input and will get killed when you pull the cord.
Protip: don't actually do this but it does work

CWM is going the way of WebOS. Yes, that makes me happy. There are far superior alternate recoveries out there. CWM has lived its life in the spotlight but the likes of TWRP and others are slamming CWM to the ground release after release, update after update. Just throwing this out there.

hrm.
I use recovery to factory reset, wipe cache, and flash roms. I'd wager that's what 95% of people use them for. What is there left to be done in recovery development that can slam another recovery to the ground, when it does the 3 things everyone uses it for?
Aside from the dead battery charging issue in CWM, the only thing I see in Amon that's handy is rebooting back to bootloader.
I'm sure I must be missing something - something I don't need, but is apparently monumental?

Ok I unlocked bootloader and did Amon ra to get root. After I did cwm and I wiped the cache and all that stuff u can wipe. Well my phone died and it will not charge but sometimes I can boot into hboot. But when I boot my phone it still gets stuck at htc logo....help me plz. Also a noob to this stuff
When you say you "did cwm" are you saying you had amon ra recovery first then flashed the clockwork recovery?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
LOL. This is classic. It ashame the threads are full of the same questions over and over. You should not be using cwm on your rezound. Your problem is directly related to cwm. What was wrong with Amon Ra that you had to install cwm after you used it to root the phone? Don't answer that cause I really don't care. A few things you can do here.... Buy a new battery, buy a standalone battery charger, leave it sit on the charger for an hour but this may not work, put you battery in a friends phone and let it charge past 10% but please let it charge more. I also think you can boot to bootloader and let it sit and charge. I will check that right now. Please, for the rest of the time you have this phone do some research before you listen to your buddy who told you it was a good idea to root your phone. And use the search function, it helps keep the threads clean as there are probably a dozen more just like it.

You need to flash the latest Amon Ra with fastboot. That will solve the charging issue your having. Their are tons of threads about this issue. Just a future tip, you should do some research before jumping into anything involving modding your device. It may take some time but it will actually save you time in the long run, while gaining basic knowledge of the steps it takes to modify your device.

When I flash Amon ra it reboots it but doesn't go to Amon ra. When I go to recovery via hboot it does nothing but load for awhile then shut off
try and flash again seems like it didnt work... or try another amonra file
I was using the Hansoon tool. Do I have to have the Amon ra file on my sd card?

CWM Recovery discussion

I saw in NilsP's rom thread that people have been working on clockwork mod recovery to see and get it working. I read that with a file copy and an advanced setting you can get backups to work. The main problem being the infamous charging bug.
Here is what is posted in that thread.
punman said:
I wasn't aware of this but when you plug the phone in, it boots what looks like a mini-recovery kernel. I suspect something with this isn't supporting the battery charge. I am going to flash back to Amon Ra and see what the differences are.
Just select "backup to external SD card" in ROM Manager Settings. You might have to enable "advanced settings" to get the option.

NilsP said:
OK here is where I am as memories come back.
If you select backup to external and set progress off it does not actually turn off progress unless you copy the hideprogress file from internal to external. The bad part is the backup hangs if you don't copy the file.
When you select install ROM from SD Card it shows what is on the internal card to select not the external.
I have not tried a restore yet but I remember if you do it from RM it deletes the boot (kernel) but can't restore it due to s-on. Gonna test that in a minute.
EDIT: Backup and restore worked fine after copying the hideprogress file
EDIT: Just had to select internal from the menu when selecting install ROM from SD Card in RM

Yep. I recovered my original GB after using an early CleanROM ICSE ROM. I think I used Scott's CleanFlash tool to flash back the correct kernel for GB.
All my recoveries have backed up flawlessly since, but I am currently only running stock rooted. Haven't tried recovering any ICS backups.

And since I bought ROM Manager while using my DInc I'd prefer to use CWM. It's a reasonable, personal choice and I've never let my batteries fully discharge, so never had charging issues.
And I don't avoid full discharge because I use CWM, I avoid full discharge because it's actually bad for the batteries.

That's not to say there's anything wrong with the N64. I still love it and play it with my friends almost every weekend. LOL. Some get and some don't. It works the same as cwm just without issues. It's amazing and annoying to see people posting almost daily on charging issues yet they refuse to use amon ra because they are comfortable with cwm. I to was hesitant to use it at first but quickly felt like I was in a familiar place once installed. My Rezound has never seen cwm. I think I mentioned earlier that I had no issues charging. But I am also not saying that Amon Ra is bad. Just that I have a preference and that I know how to handle/avoid the pitfalls.
Interestingly, there were many in the DInc threads who didn't like CWM or ROM Manager, but no one there made snarky comments about personal choice... (not talking about you, snowride)
I think any CWM thread will just devolve like a Sense thread will. At least in the Rezound forums.

[Q] Recovery: Revolutionary, TWRP, or 4EXT

Also, what is a safe way going about uninstalling the recovery and replacing it with, lets say, 4EXT?

4ext hands down. When you install 4ext it replaces the original recovery. No need to uninstall anything.

4EXT is the way to go. I haven't used TWRP, but 4EXT does everything I need it to do and does it well. I've never had a single issue installing ROMs, backing up, restoring, formatting, never had to wipe multiple times before installing anything. Everything just works.
Just flashed 4EXT via the App. Worked beautifully and everything seems to be fine. Finally away from Revolutionary although it seems to be fairly similar in functionality, just no touch.

I wish I could get 4ext without touch.
I'm afraid that if I have it in my pocket that it could somehow get into recovery and press random crap.
I'm more of the traditional recovery user, so I like having the use the volume and power buttons.
Do they have a version that isn't touch?

I don't think so but what are the chances of your phone shutting off hitting reboot, recovery and, ok

I think your more likely to send a text message to your local police station, informing them that you plan to blow up the white house. I wouldn't worry about it.

4ext classic doesn't have the touch interface and all the features of the touch version.

But would that be any better than clockwork mod recovery?
It wouldn't be hard for it to get into 4ext.
All it would have to do is light up (especially easy if I have volume wake enabled) and pull up the apps. Then if it decided to hit 4ext app, anything could go bad there.
That's just why I don't like touch. =/

Nah. Its not that easy to boot into it. The menus for rebooting into recovery through the app are into some menus.

I haven been running 4ext for awhile and never booted in to recovery and set my phone to self destruct. I have called people while my phone was in my pocket and thats about it.
I haven't pocket dialed someone with a smartphone ever. My wife pocket dialed me from her iphone4s a couple of times.

mostly it does it if I forget to turn off the screen before placing it in my pocket.
4EXT is Great!
I just installed 4EXT from the app, took like 2 minutes and now I have a touch recovery. I'll let you know here if I have any problems...(waiting for the next version of Liquid's ICS )

Currently running Revolutionary and it seems to be slightly out dated... Would you guys still recommend staying with Revolutionary, or switching to TWRP or 4EXT?

I'm not aware of any method of replacing Revolutionary's bootloader. Is there one ?
TWRP and 4EXT are recovery tools. Different thing entirely.

I think he was referring to revolutionary recovery and not the boot loader.

I had 4ext Touch and installed TWRP. Not that sure about TWRP.
How would I go about re-installing 4ext back over TWRP?
It seems that TWRP is "using" some elements of 4ext.
Or are they so close that my imagination is getting the better of me/
