Hello,
i am searching for an remote desktop server for android ICS
I read on some old threads that for old android OS there was some app like webkey, that allow to control the android phone / tablet remotely via 3g
Does anyone know if there are some other app for ICS?
(i wonder if ICS has some remote desktop server built in in the OS, like windows, but i suppose it hasn't)
Thanks!
Bye

Thanks,
but i dont search an app to control the pc via tablet.
Instead, i would like to control the tablet (that i leave at home) with the pc that i have in the office where i work.
So i need an app to be installed in the tablet, that acts like the windows remote desktop server ...
Is this what you are looking for?
To control your PC from phone/tablet, use TeamViewer. Of course, you need to have TeamViewer installed in the other device as well. Dunno if the reverse (controlling phone/tablet from PC) is possible. Never tried.

Yes, i was looking for something like the VNC server link you suggested me.
But perhaps it does not allow remote connection (over internet)...

Hello,
finally i was able to remote access my android tablet (acer a500) by another android tablet (dell streak):
i rooted the tablet and installed a VNC server on the tablet a500;
i configured my wireless home router to enable forwarding port 5901 to the (static) ip address of the tablet a500.
Then i installed a VNC client on the other tablet (dell streak).
Now i can with the dell streak and 3g connection, remote access the a500 that i leave at home.
The 'remote desktop' works well, its nice to see the screen of the a500 as screen of the dell streak...
and when i touch the screen of the dell streak , i 'touch' in same time the screen of the a500...
the only thing i dont like is that the connection is very slow...sometimes i have to wait many seconds to see the answer of the a500 on the dell streak...
Bye!

Strange that there is so few such solutions. I'd imagine people would create apps for this just like there is plenty of those WiFi File Managers where you start server on the phone/tablet and move files using web browser on PC.
Maybe LogMeIn will finally develop something proper for remote controling Phones/Tablets, there is a need for this, I for example need to support a person in another country and I need to be able to at least see the screen remotely, not necessairly control it remotely.
access a server on a 3g wireless phone directly is almost impossible, this is not for technical reasons, instead the wireless operators blocks all server ports on mobile devices.
One way is to do NAT punch through, or use proxy, none of these is easy, so I don't really see servers that can accessed from internet.
Update: I have installed dynamic dns server and vnc server and that did the trick.
I assume this is still with WIFI, did you manage to connect to a server in 3g network, i.e., using ip address provided by wireless providers, instead of a wifi ip address.

Thats great that it worked but what software was used? "A VNC server" and "A VNC client" Isn't terribly informative!
Any names atall?

I was trying this out but cant seem to connect to my home desktop with the VNC Client thats available for free on the market place. It would be cool if I could get this functionality. Anyone else have any issues with this?
The server is set to port 5800 and the user details and IP are all correct.

all working fine for me, have you opened your ports on your router/firewall? thats if you have actually got a router.
i open both 5800 and 5900 on router but change the port to 5900 on the vnc app, is what i did
as it shows on the title,is it possible to connect my android based device to my PC via wifi hotspot and control it from my phone, its like teamviewer but without having to connect to the internet ,i.e the connection would be between the pc and cellphone directly.
i hope my point is clear.
Sometime like RDP will work over a LAN, but having never used a wifi hotspot I'm not exactly sure if the connection would be correct. Connected to the same router a phone would be able to use RDP to connect to the local IP (usually 192.168.x.x) without ever going through the internet.
If I tether my Droid 3 and the Windows 7 laptop with bluetooth this method works with any app that supports Microsoft RDP. You would also need to be using a Windows version with RDP host support to get this to work.
thanks for your reply
I'm looking for a remote desktop app for the Android that uses (or is able to use) a bluetooth connection to connect. Or if that's not possible, a local wifi connection, ie: direct from my droid to my computer's wireless card, using only my local area connection.
Does anyone know an app that will do this?
It needs to give me the full screen of my computer, so nothing like Gmote or any remotes used for media centers will work for this project. I'd also like it to keep my screen on the computer while I use it, instead of locking it up.
Basically PhonemyPC but without having to use the internet to do so.
My reasons? I'm trying to connect to and control my Carputer running Centrafuse in my Eclipse. So that I can leave the car running, go outside of it, and pull up the full screen to push buttons and control the car's media center (and more) or even from the back seat. You know.. for the ladies Without having to send every command over 3g to verizon's servers, back out to a tower, and back into my carputer, slowing things waaay down. Thanks!
Well you could use Microsoft RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) if your carputer is running Windows XP Pro or 7 Pro/Ultimate. Bluetooth support is better on Windows 7 as it has a newer stack. RDP host functionality is not included in home edition versions of Windows. The biggest advantage of Microsoft RDP is it doesn't require any extra software on the Windows host and is relatively easy to connect to. For the Android device, just search the market for your any remote desktop program that supports RDP. A disadvantage to RDP is that it sends the host system back to the Windows login screen when a remote session starts. This is a security feature so others can't see what you are doing and I don't think it can be disabled.
You could also try VNC, its similar to RDP and will work on other OSes, home versions of Windows, Linux, etc.
Either bluetooth or wifi tether (which is basically ad-hoc) should work. If the computer can surf the internet from the phone then it must be getting a local IP assigned.
Thanks for your suggestion.
However, this doesn't seem to apply yo what I need as A. It's for a mac (I have a PC) B. it doesn't seem to be an actual live streaming remote PC type of program, more like a monitoring program that sends you screenshots and data every few minutes, and finally.. from what I can tell their app is for ipod only, no android.
Maybe I'm mistaken, but thanks anyways
have you tried 2x client rdp/remote desktop?
EDIT:
after reading more of what you are trying to do...if you just want a media center remote, use myremote donate. it gives you keyboard and mouse control, as well as a full media center remote. works off wifi. you would need to download the server app for your puter off their website, and their client app connects to the server app to allow control of the computer. I use it all the time as a media center remote control. works awesome!
Try gPad, it's awesome. I hope that's what you're looking for. =)
Just wondering if anybody has had any luck getting the 2X remote desktop client to connect with their desktop/laptop? I'm on stock 2.3.4 and first I connect to my workplace VPN with the native android VPN, then try to remote desktop to my windows 7 work computer. I get the blue "Windows 7 Professional" screen, sometimes getting as far as the "Welcome" message, but then it just hangs there.
If anyone has got this working can you post what android rom you're using and what version of windows you're connecting to? Thanks... if it works with a non-stock rom this may be the thing that gets me to go away from stock...

Check out the teamviewer app on the market it works great for remote desktop. I use it all the time. You will have to install the teamviewer software on your computer. It works great and it's free.
sent from my CM7-dx2 using XDA premium
Thanks. I may try Teamviewer but it sounds like VNC. The thing stopping me from using VNC is my work laptop has a dynamic IP. With RDP I can point it to my computer name as long as I'm connected to the VPN. One post on another forum says when they switched to another tablet they could not remote desktop any more. I'm going to flash CM7 tonight and see if it works on there.
No luck on CM7, same issues trying various RDP apps. I can VPN then RDP to my work computer from my home computer every time, so I doubt it's a problem with my work computer or network.
Wann say also that I really enjoyed the time I spent with CM7. Just its camcorder focus was blurry and home videos are my number one priority besides work.
Hi all.
I have a 3G (HSDPA) mobile phone, not Android nor a smart phone, which has Bluetooth DUN profile: I can already tether my laptop to it via Bluetooth.
I'm planning to buy a WiFi only tablet running Android and would like to tether it to my mobile phone the same way as the laptop.
I've searched through the forums here at XDA with (apparent) no luck.
Is there any application/ROM for Android tablets that supports such a use?
I've tried a few Android phones (both stock and modded), but they don't seem to support Bluetooth tethering.
Is there any hint, reference, link or advice?
I am not scared to eventually do that in command line on the tablet, though.
Please don't suggest WiFi tethering (as the phone has no WiFi) or USB tethering as both the tablet and the phone just work as devices, not host.
Thanks in advance.
No way?
Depends on the tablet you purchase. I have an Archos 101G9 Turbo tablet and an old Nokia E71 phone. I cannot tether the tablet to the phone through the bluetooth settings menu as it just does NOT show any profiles for the phone. I can however tether the tablet to my phone via command line commands. But this requires the tablet to be rooted in order to use such commands.

Well, rooting is almost mandatory to have any non-trivial feature on these devices.
I was just wondering whether my "special need" was somehow supported in some tablet with stock or aftermarket ROM.
I do understand that a fairly complete bluetooth stack should be already in place in Android.
What I need to understand is how far my feature is from a simple use.
Well I just happened to install BlueVPN from the market a day or two ago and it works like a charm. No need to open a terminal emulator and do what I've done before.
Using either way to connect to my phone still results in some native apps not recognizing the connection. The web browsers work (stock, opera mobile/mini, firefox, chrome). But native apps like the gmail app, speed test app, and probably a few others just won't recognize the data connection. I wonder if some other properties need to be set for them to recognize it.
Not a huge deal for me since the web browsers work.

These are great news for me.
While email and calendar can be accessed with the browser, SSH (ConnectBot) needs a connection. Could you please check whether this works?
I fear there's some firewalling or NAT in place, this is why it's not working... maybe.
I tried ConnectBot out for at least the telnet portion and that was able to connect but could not send anything from the onscreen keyboard. It just would not recognize anything I typed. I do not have anything to SSH into so could not test that connectivity out.
It connects at least from what I can see. But dislikes the touchscreen keyboard on my tablet apparently.
I have a Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi tablet flashed with Ubuntu touch, there is much unfamiliar to me as a regular Linux user with this distro.
I have been trying to get the tablet to connect to the Nokai N900(Maemo5 Linux) app QT Mobile Hotspot via wifi, it associates but doesn’t grab from an IP from the DHCP as my Ubuntu laptop does. If I run dhclient in the tablet's terminal it just hangs. Any ideas?
The N900 running QT Mobile Hotspot uses ad-hoc mode to make the connection.
Working in shell with the tablet is a bit of a pain as the replacement touch screen makes typing difficult and SSH apparently doesn't work without tweaking.
I see the same with UT on a MX4 and the n900.
Android out of the box disables connecting to ad-hoc networks. I wonder if UT does the same via a driver inheritance?
What issues do you have with ssh?

Hey handaxe, same from TMO?
From my research Android can go ad-hoc when rooted, in fact my nexus associates in ad-hoc mode with the N900, just that grabbing an IP address fails. Not sure if the tablet uses dhclient, but that fails when I try it in shell.
I got ssh working askubuntu.com/questions/348714/how-can-i-access-my-ubuntu-phone-over-ssh but it is using public key verification, I go through wipes so often and have such low security needs a password is enough and I hate having to worry about key management, I assume a machine will be compromised and just use crypto on private data. Getting the tablet moved to password verification is probably what I need to bootstrap myself into the next step. There is no good gedit like app and I cant very well VI without having Esc, and Ctrl keys.
As an aside if you know how to get a VNC server running, I had been hoping to use the tablet as a big screen for N900/Maemo apps, especially GPS until the Ubuntu Touch selection expands.

The same handaxe....
http://www.unixarea.de/bq/bq-aquaris-e45-ubuntu.txt
Item no 7.
Useful info in that page overall. Installing VNC requires setting the filesystem to rw, thus allowing use of apt-get and .deb installation as opposed to clicks. This disables OTA updates.
I test-ran dhclient as root via ssh whilst connected to a WPA AP, and it did not hang, so I assume that ad-hoc is not supported.
But to get back to the most important topic,
has anyone successfully used tethering from an Ubuntu Touch wifi tablet to any phone with an ad-hoc network link?
Just an update, my research shows that it is possible for a rooted android Nexus 7(flo) to connect via ad-hoc just as the Ubuntu Touch flashed Nexus 7 also already can,
I do get a wifi associate on my Ubuntu N7 and can see the MAC address of the Nokia phone on the other side of the connection.
this problem is only an ubuntu touch DCHP hang issue, the connection to the N900 works automaticly and perfectly when I use my Ubuntu laptop.
I do not see a way to post a bug for core OS issues only official Ubuntu Touch apps.

Bugs go here.
Actually, they go under the app concerned, it this case I imagine network-manager, but bug admin seems to take care of that.
I searched around on ad-hoc and WEP but found nada.
