[Q] software keyboard help - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hey guys,
Basically I just need a keyboard that is going to work effectively for me. I have tried a fee like swift key x for tablet but its auto correct is terrible IMO and I think it misses letters I am typing when my sped gets up. The go keyboard I also tried but its format doesn't like my thumbs or fingers. At the moment I am using the default android keyboard and it works great but slows down and freezes up while doing urls, Facebook and a little bit while typing this. It may be because i run in eco power mode most of the time, but even when i do try in balanced i tend to still notice it a bit. In Polaris it works great though. So what keyboard should I be getting? Paid or not.
Thanks,

Thumb Keyboard is working great for me.

responsive dialer

does anyone know of a responsive dialer? I am looking for an original looking(bigger buttons would be nice) dialer that doesnt have a delay between pressing and recognition/drawing/tone. The lag time on all the dialers i have used seems excessive. I wonder why, as response to screen presses are quite snappy otherwise.
sorry I am no help here..............I would like to see a dialer that is more responsive too. I imagine it has something to do with how fast the processor can process the little app's requests...........not too fast it appears.
i dont know about wm6, but i'm using wm5 and turning off smartdialing helps A LOT, well not much help if you do use smartdialing...

I gained some speed by deactivating the sound of the keys when you press them
I did global search on the forum and found this one, so I'll just add comment on this one rather than creating a new thread

i only got a tiny bit improvement, my cheap nokia 3210 that came with T-mobile pre-paid card was MUCH MUCH MORE responsive!!!
I'm totally frustrated, it took up to 3 seconds to dial 1 number, consider the following:
- in order to improve the performance I need to turn the key sound off, so I have to keep looking at my screen
- pressing a button can fail altogether or can work with delay
- if i don't see the number you pressed immediately on the screen I have 2 options:
-- press again, but this can work OR create DOUBLE PRESSES
-- wait and see if it's just a delay, sometimes i wait only to see that I NEED TO PRESS AGAIN
this is OK when i don't badly need the phone "feature" and all the other bells and whistles distract me from thinking I'm supposed to have a dependable phone in this stupid device.
let me know if there's any smarter way around this and how do you guys deal with this? is iphone much more responsive when it comes to phone?
I think the real problem is that MS really doesn't care. If iphone (my wife has one) could do decent secure exchange I would dump this turkey of a phone and go that route. It is excellent as aphone except for the lack of voice commander and most of the pda functions are great as well. I n fact ifyou eliminate the ability to add a bunch of beta aps that are trying to imitate the user interface of a competing product, and screw up you r phone after a couple of days, what is the advantage of a wm platform?

Is Numeric Keypad "heavy duty" in S740 ?

Hello,
I do write many many on phone, but don't want use qwerty keyboard. So, I will use numeric keyboard. Is it suitable for someone who writes much?
Thanks for any answer,
RA
I mostly use the numeric (for SMS etc) and I don't have any problems until now. However if you dont need the keyboard why dont you look for another (maybe smaller) phone?

Thats the problem...HTC stop produce smartphones with numeric keyboards and NON-touch screen. That's a pity. There is only S740 and HTC Snap. I don't know why the go like this. Writing with numeric keypad with T9 is 1. Quicker 2. More comfortable (I can use only one hand). That's a pity...

Well, you can write pretty easily with the numerical. At least I don't have a problem. When I dont have time (or a second hand available) I always use the numerical.
The only thing I dont know is its quality. I have the phone for about 3 months now, so it's too early to tell you if any problems with the keys arise.
The Keypad is not very robust... it squaks and requires really hard presses as the phone gets older..
What i don't like about the numeric keypad is it's surface, which does not differ at all underneath the "joystick". That forces you to look at your fingers while writing (or am I too unsensitive), cause you can't determine if your fingers are on the key or between two keys (you really don't feel a difference at all, except that it gives "double haptic feedback" when you have pressed and when its too late cause then you already made two instead of one input ) if you don't ALWAYS LOOK AT THE NUMERIC KEYPAD.
Perhaps I just need some more excercise to intuitively press the keys correctly without looking (which was no problem btw with other phones that have little bars on the keys or a space between the keys).
I like the haptic feedback btw. If you press a key correctly, it nicely snaps.
Thanks to all!
I want to thank you all for answers. It was very important for me!

yes !! type seams heavy . like htc tytn2 official rom . like htc diamond offial rom !! i worked with those .
My main problem is that the two keys for the calls are way way too small. OK they are somewhat higher but they are small. And that wouldnt be a big problem if you use a handsfree, but one of them is used for locking the keyboard and is annoying at times (I have to use the 2-key combo to lock the keys)
Did you try Danny Baumann's Automac Keylock? It's the best way for locking keyboard
Best greetings,

Laggy on screen keyboard on stock and custom roms

Hi,
First time posting but I've been following stock and custom rom threads since the prime came out.
I installed several onscreen keyboards cause I didn't really like to use the dock (The caps lock key takes a few seconds to turn on when I press it). I tried several apps including thumb keyboard, swype, hacker's, slideIT and all of them seem to lag. As is when I type "THIS" too fast it register all of the keys (I see them light up) but it only produces "TIS" or "TS" or "HIS."
I browsed through the forums and have turned off the autocorrect and word completion on "language and settings" on stock and also the settings of each of the keyboard apps and I still get the same. I've also used apps to clear the cache to see if it makes a difference but have had no success. The android stock keyboard seems to be the fastest which is weird. I just tested the new CM10 with JB and the lagginess is worst on the stock keyboard. :crying:
This is really annoying cause after using wookie's and CM roms my prime seems to be alive again and I really want to like it . I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same.
I'm really looking for advice and not so much for "go get the Ipad if you complain so much" or "just use the dock." As stated before I have problems with my caps lock key.
Thanks!!

[Q] Strange glitch while typing a text message

I recently moved from a fried Sprint Epic 4G to the new Evo. Fully stock, I've noticed that there is a momentary screen flash of... something (can't quite make out what it is, it's so quick) while typing a text message in landscape mode. This is true even on my current ROM (MeanROM ICS 4.2). As far as I can tell, there aren't any strange pauses or whatnot, and it doesn't matter what keyboard I use (stock HTC or Swiftkey 3). First - does anyone else have this problem? And second, has anyone successfully solved it? It's more maddening than anything else, as I can keep typing my texts just fine after it happens (like once every 5-15 words).
Thanks
Just did a landscape test. Didn't notice any flashes on the screen. Not sure where Im suppose to be looking. Fully Stock
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Same issue here using swiftkey but in portrait mode. Its like the keyboard flashes real quick.
Yep same here. Imma SwiftKey user as well. Beenn seeing this for sometime now. No explanation for it either
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Same here... SwiftKey on two phones, EVO Lte and GS3 does it on both.
Stock swypes been doing it for me in portrait mode as well. It looks like the screen is tearing over the keyboard with part of it getting garbled.
Redraw issue, might be something in the HTC framework
Ok, seems like I'm not the only one. Also, I've noticed it comes more often right as a text is incoming in the messaging app. The problem seems to persist across some keyboards and across some phones, but not others. Smells like a simple ICS issue.
Now, howbout the screen backlight flickering issue during onscreen grays and while looking at photos in the Gallery? I'm thinking of switching out my phone in the Sprint store tomorrow.
I've also started running in to this lately. For me it's only been happening with SwiftKey in portrait mode, and only in the messaging app, haven't had issues with this anywhere else.

[Q] Sticky/slow Typing

As the title suggests, typing is very difficult on my Rezound. It has been since I first got it. As I try and type, my key presses take a long time to register. This happens to me regardless of rom or keyboard. Does anyone else have this problem and know of a fix? Thanks.
Hmmm... I have heard of this, but mostly on custom ROMs using Swype, the fix was to enable Force GPU rendering in the Settings-Developer options section. If it is enabled already, try disabling it.
Other than that, does everything else that uses the touchscreen work fine? Have you done a factory reset?
I have always used the SwiftKey keyboard to type. At the moment I am using the Adrenaline 2.0 Rom and in Landscape mode there is significantly more lag vs portrait mode. I'm flashing an Rage 1.6 atm. Hopefully that will change it.
Or maybe I just text way too fast.. lol
Thanks for the response. I'm not a big fan of Swype. I am currently using SwiftKey but I have tried many different keyboards. I never type in landscape but I just tried typing in landscape and am getting the same issues with "sticky" keys. I've tried enabling gpu rendering for a week, and then disabling it for a week and have the issue regardless.
