Bigger caller sceen photo - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's been long time since Android has limitation of image size in the Galaxy S II. Is there any modified phone.apk and contacts.apk (if needed) with bigger screen of caller?
It is really weird on ICS image size is still so small.
I've seen mods for GB but not for ICS
I am not interested of commercial callers' screen as they don't have stock look and are just crap

Yes you need to search as always .
Big Caller Image .

Is that what you mean?

Nope, as I said I am not interested any commercial app
I am looking for mod of stock "Phone.apk" for ICS - am I blind or there is really no any for 4.03?

Repeat my post .

That what I was looking for. I must adjust my photos for better resolution, I wish there were more info about it too

have you tried hax sync? It syncs your contact photos from facebook and they are high res. Also the custom rom thebiyani ( SG2) has a caller which is full screen. It is not perfect yet but its pretty good

Google -- still with the 96x96 contact pics!?!

It blows me away that I'm asking this question still in 2011! I had the issue on WM a few years back and figured Google would allow their contact pics to be bigger by now.
After searching for quite a while, it looks to me like the only solution is to not sync your contacts with GMail. Has anyone found a way around this? 96x96 makes for a horrible looking full-screen caller-id.
depends, if they are on facebook syncmypix works. had some luck with motoblurs syncing.
Possible solution
Theres an app in the market place called Full Screen Caller ID FREE which can take over the screen when calls come in. It allows you to specify larger pics for contacts. It still uses the Motoblur Dialer for basic functionality like in call stuff.

Thanks for the idea...
...tried it...started off well...took a while and added all my contact pics in...but it chooses a small portion of each picture to use as the default picture in the rest of the phone. Its usually not even a recognizable part of the picture. So now I have random sections for all my contacts....and only full pictures for when I'm receiving a call. Which isn't that important to me. I like to use the pictures when dialing. It would seem with today's screen resolutions Google would have an option to leave pictures full size on phone, and only shrink them down for web use.

you can disable the picture option for your contacts so that it uses the original small-size photo you had for that contact before. got o settings -> miscellaneous and uncheck "Overwrite android picture"
i like the app, only complaint is i'm not a big fan of the answer screen layout.

Just to be sure before I change anything...are you talking about settings inside 'Full-Screen CallerID' app istself, or a Google setting on the GMail side of things?
EDIT: Found setting in app...thanks.

Grainy/low resolution wallpapers

Hi everyone!
I just got my sgsii yesterday and I'm loving it. I have one problem though. I've tried to download wallpapers to set, and they are super low resolution and grainy. I'm downloading the correct resolution size (Cant remember off the top of my head) and it still comes out bad. Are there any solutions for this?
Thanks for the info
I'm not sure this is the solution you're looking for but the way I find wallpapers (easiest in my book) is to go to google image search and specify the resolution to 960 x 800. The put whatever search term you want. Every image I get from there is always crystal clear, unless its just a terrible image in the first place. Give that a shot and see what you can find.
the good thing about specifying the 960x800 resolution is that most of the images are already intended for android phones, so alot of them have the android robot, etc.
Happy hunting.
You should also check out the Zedge and Backgrounds Box apps. They have lots of high quality wallpapers.

[Q] Android for visually impaired

Hello,
As my sister is visually impaired, i was searching for magnification tools on an android device.
Her problem is that when she writes a text, she can't see what she's typing because it's too small.
Actually, a fully magnified android interface would be great, but I don't know if it exists...
She has no device yet, because we don't want to spend money for a one she can't use.
So if you know a device that integrates such features, or some usefull apps for visually impaired people... (She don't want screen readers, also).
And well, if an iPhone or a Windows Phone is better, you can say it
Thanks,
Fabien
ps : sorry for my english, i'm french
You could just get a large android device (e.g. Samsung Galaxy Note).
Well, i have a HTC Sensation, and it's not better, because the font size is adapted to the large resolution...
As someone who is in the same shoes, I highly recommend Handcent SMS. Completely adjustable font sizes on every single thing. I love it. No more eye strain or anything.
Handcent SMS is definitely a good option as you can easily customize the text size.
If you root the phone (not for everyone) you can adjust the DPI that will affect every app on the phone. You can see the effects in some of the images here: bit.ly/vfhzHn
So, i've searched a little on the market, and here is what i've found :
- Launcher 7 (for big icons on the launcher, and for its simplicity)
- Handcent SMS (all font magnified)
- DW Contacts (in order to magnify the list of contacts and the dialer)
All this apps helped a lot for my sister, but if you see how I can improve...
Thanks !

^Else if you have a device which has CyanogenMod7 in it, then you may simply use Spare Parts to increase the overall font size.
I guess it is also available in the market for other ROM's as well, not sure about that!

It is available: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.droidgram.spareparts&feature=search_result. Another usable app is LCD Density Changer: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.beansoft.lcd_density_changer&hl=en.
this is my solution
I made a app these days and now i published it on market
it is called ScreenZooM. Search for it (icon is a magnifier with a big green +)
i will atach a qrcode image
i can't post links

Changing Stock Dialer JB

Hey all, I'm hoping you can help me with something.. I'm running Cyanogenmod 10 on Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 International version. When I call someone the call screen will have a huge photo on it and my photos are all small so they look terrible. I had it before with certain roms (not cyanogenmod) that the call screen would have a few options on it (like Gingerbread rom) and a small window for photos which meant the pictures were a decent size and looked great.
My question is, can I change settings in JB that will allow the small window to appear or do i have to install another stock dialer or such.
Sorry if I'm not explaining myself well...
Kindest Regards
Garret

Jelly support hd contact photos (256x256) which is pretty cool.
All you have to do is update your contact pictures manually or do it with this app, HD Contact Photos
Thanks for your quick reply. The app will be a big help, but we're would the photos be stored, since I've added the photos I've since forward the phone.

[Q] Can't set native resolution wallpaper without cropping on SGS2(JB).

Hello as the title says, when I try to set a native resolution wallpaper on a lockscreen of my SGS2(i9100), I am forced to use a crop. And this is weird, because I see no reason to crop such a small image as 800x480 pixels, also I can clearly remember that there was no croping, at least with native resolution pics, on ICS.
ROM - Omega 19.2 (based on stock Jelly Bean for SGS2).
Is it possible to solve this problem and how if it is?
Any help appreciated.
I suppose you already solved this problem by now, but for the benefit of anyone who might land here from a search query (after all this IS one of the clearest wordings of the problem I've seen yet) - just use the app from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2222518
It installs as an alternative "cropper" and it lets you freely select the area to use as wallpaper, including the whole image if you wish. The phone itself indeed is simply unable to "not crop" even a properly sized image otherwise, ever since the JB update (idiots...). Unless one wants to install a fancy wallpaper manager (some of which can also handle this) or start appending large empty frames around wallpapers just to be able to crop them back to proper size, this small app is just the ticket...
