[Q] Which ICS-rom will give me the best battery life? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a SGSII and I was wondering, which ICS-rom will give me the best battery life?
Only thing i do is whatsapp, twitter, facebook and browsing. I'm using CM9 right now but even when i'm charging the battery drains when using whatsapp heavy. This wasn't even the case with the official Samsung ICS rom. With CM9 i get only 15h of battery life. And that's when i'm not using my phone heavily. Otherwise I'll get 12h.
I never game, use GPS or BT and i always turn of WiFi when i know i don't have any.
I know that the screen is the main source of my short battery life but i asume it could be a lot better since 15h is just way to low.
Thank you erriezeekanmgn.

Either use the search button or find out for yourself.

SOMEONE !! HELP !!
I need to find out which ROM has the best battery life, can someone point me in the right direction pls....
Thanks

Try them all. It all depends on how you use your phone. There's no magical rom with great battery life.
If you use your phone a lot, go for a ROM which isn't overclocked.
If you want the longest idle time before recharge, I think you should set the "conservative" governor as a screen off policy and you will be fine. Of course you can also disable features such as data but you will loose many useful features of your phone. Unlike what some people says, disabling GPS doesn't improve battery life as it isn't used except when you start an application which use it.
Battery life is most affected by the screen light.
And with every rom you have to callibrate your battery. Most people with poor battery life haven't done this.
The Froyo roms are the best options because the are faster and less stressing for the juice.

They all have the same battery life (give or take 5 minutes)
All pretty similar.
Use an underclocked kernel, play around with brightness settings or use an app such as ultimate juice / juice defender to regulate 3g / wifi usage

How to callibrate my battery??
My Hero just lasts two Days with 691mhz Flykernel 11 and Elelinux 2.1 and no 3g.
I just hear a lot of music with it, connect it a few to wifi and play some games in the school.....
How long does your batteriest last?

You say two days without a charge with occasional wifi use (wifi on, screen on, phone signal on), and games playing (sound on screen on, processor busy) like it's a bad thing...
Since the mid 2000s phone capabilities have been surpassing battery performance at a remarkable rate. With the advent of the iphone and the gaining popularity android smartphones, phone feature demands have exploded while battery technology just isn't anywhere near providing the kind of battery life we expected on our dumb phones, ie, don't bother packing a charger for a two week holiday if you charge up before you leave.
This is a large reason why new technology is being created with more efficient manufacturing processes, smaller dies, etc etc, as it is easier to reduce power consumption at this time than it is to build slim, cheap, high capacity batteries.

Trigger 3.3 beta

I just installed the new Rom TRIGGER 3.3-beta. This rom is very fast and the GPS is great. I also put on bali 1.8.4. But the battery drains fast. If you guys tried it out, and found a way to save battery can you please let tell us what you did to control it. I know its in beta version and is being tweaked on.
Thank you
Yea Im using the same Rom. Hate to break it to you but the battery life on most all android devices sucks. I have had 5 different android devices and the battery sucked on all of them. didn't matter if it was stock or custom Rom. ether way these devices just have ****ty battery life. You can make it a little better by turning down brightness and messing with other settings but when it comes down to it. it still sucks! Just my 2 cents!

Did you recondition your battery after flashing? I've had pretty good battery performance with the Bali kernels. I also tend to use the KB1 modem. It seems to give me the best battery. But each phone is a bit individualistic, and what works well for someone may not work as well for next person.

This is untrue as I have owned an android device since the G1. The battery did suck on the G1, but by no means does the battery suck on every android device. My guess is you probably never calibrated your battery or you just used it very heavily. There's also the possibility that every rom you tried sucked on those devices. I have consistently gotten a full day or more with Bionix NextGen V2 with the Bali kernel with moderate to heavy usage. It is true if you lower the brightness, turn off wifi, bluetooth and gps when you aren't using it that it will increase your battery life though.
I have reconfigured the battery and have the brightness turned all the way down. Dont use WiFi but battery still sucks compared to other smart phones.

can any of you post a screenie of this rom pls
Battery usage is hard to compare since there are so many variables. In my experience I generally have better battery life when visiting my parents. The area I live in is somewhat of a black hole for signal and I notice more battery drain here with the same rom/kernal setup and similar usage pattern. I believe the weak signal here causes a higher battery drain over all.
Of course this might not apply to your situation but it could be worth considering.

I'm not going to argue with you, I'm just going to state what the facts are.
THE BATTERY DOES NOT SUCK, MOST LIKELY IS USER ERROR
Lol. It isn't user error. I think you might just use your phone more heavily than others. One thing you have to realize when comparing the battery life of the phones are a) battery size, b) screen size, c) smartphone or stone age phone, d)**** you've done to the phone including ROM's/Kernals/Apps/Sync.
Personally, on days that I am working, I get about 8-10 hours out of my battery before it dies. When I am not at work I get about 23 hours out of my battery.
what is the major difference between trigger 3.2 and trigger 3.3?
Try using overstock instead, I've had pretty good battery life with it.
Im running trigger3.3 beta with overstock and the battery is great.

might try this later, i could say the battery on my vibrant is better then the iphone and ive gone through all versions of the iphone.

bahaha you must be kidding. like someone else said, it depends on soooo many variables and phones. I was running trigger rom and overstock kernel and was going down about 1-2% battery every hour while screen was off. I listen to pandora every morning for an hour to hour and half and would go down 5%. I've sat on the web watching tv on TV shows stream app for about 1-2 hours and went down like 15-20% when brightness is lowered.
It's all about the brightness, killing apps that enjoy sucking battery life and enjoy run constantly, and running an OC/UV kernel. You can also change it from the usual 3g/H connection down to E (edge) which uses alot less power also. Turn off or turn down auto sync on certain apps like facebook from every 10 minutes down to every few hours.
The screen is the biggest power consumer, so lower that, set it to automatic or all the way down to lowest brightness to save quite a bit of battery when using the phone.
Usually the second largest power consumer (if ur not a huge user of just one certain app) is when the screen is off and the phone is syncing and just running android. the solution is If you can find a decent UV kernel (overstock for android 2.2 was what I was using when on 2.2), you can slow your CPU down. Like on my vibrant I made a profile (on the SetCPU app) to undervolt it from 1,000mhz down to a conservative 400mhz max and 100mhz minimum when screen is off. This is very easy to do. sometimes I'd watch shows on that. I usually left it at a conservative setting and 800mhz and 100mhz min all day long when screen was on, sometimes at 400mhz if i wasnt doing much. It worked wonderfully for me.
Moral of the story, there are plenty of things to make your phones battery last longer than it normally would. The big one probably to get a well known kernel that can UV, then get SetCPU and make a few profiles to make your phone use less power.
BOOM!

[Q] Total Battery Life For You with GPS Active 100% of the Time???

I'd like to know from the folks at XDA how much battery life (in hours) they get once they recharge the battery and turn on GPS (i.e. 100% active with a software--no screen off) until the phone shuts down from no energy.
I'd like to know what ROMS, kernels, etc you're using and how much battery life with 100% GPS with no down time.
For me, I'm getting about ~3 hours with TW 1.3.2 and Bali using Copilot GPS software. Screen at half bright. Battery is reconditioned.........Is this any good?.....

I've been having real bad battery problems. People claim 12-14 hours with heavy use and full charge. I get only about 8 hours with medium use ( few calls some texts and some web browsing and pandora) My battery's date is 08.02.2010 and its 1500 mAH . Would you recommend i get a new one and see if that works? I'm running cm7 latest nightly and glitch v11 since i thought glitch would help wit battery life but no dice. Even before i got any roms though my battery life was always about 8 hours with medium use. And thats with no gps no wifi or syncing. Thanks for ur help.

3 hours with GPS enabled constantly? And your screen on the entire time? Yes, that's very good.
I remember I used to have a Garmin that would last ~24minutes after I took it off of the charger.
Constant-running GPS is a massive battery drain. Having your screen running for 3 hours straight is an even bigger battery drain.
Get a car charger.

what worked really well for me is bali 1.1.1 here are my UV settings ive been running my phone all day at 6pm i had 50% and after a good amount of use i have 47% left im not overclocking at all
1000- -25
800- 50
400 -50
200 -50
100-75
when i try going around 100 and up it gets unstable so try these out and tweak em a bit im sure u will have better battery life
Do you use bali 1.1.1 with cm7 nightly too? just making sure it'll b compatible with my setup to . btw funny ur from newark. im from elizabeth =P

[Q] Moving back from iOS to Android (phone recommendations?)

Hi there. I have an iphone4s and I'm quite happy with it, except for the fact that I hate Apple. So I want to move back to Android. Things that I like about the iphone is the mail app and. mostly, battery life (battery consumption when screen is locked is superb, and that is the phone status usually). I'm not going to use the phone for games, but for calls, whatsapp, twitter, g+, music (lots of music playing), some video and gps navigation. I would like to ask people for recommendations on a good terminal based on (most important to less important):
1.- Battery life (I give importance to battery life when idle)
2.- Fast processor
3.- Fast charging
4.- Support for external storage (microSD)
5.- Cyanogenmod compatible
6.- If possible, the terminal sould allow me to replace the battery
Please do not comment on things like switch off wifi when not browsing the web, or switch to 2G when not using 3G to improve battery life. I do not do that now and I have power for 36 straight hours with my iphone. I'm not looking for workarounds for bad battery life. I'm trying to have the same battery performance I have on my iphone on a phone with Android without switching things on and off.
Thanks so much for your help
Ignacio
The pimp my Rom scripts for Android devices works also good for battery improvement.
But all you need is the Samsung s3 dude. Root it and script it with PMR.
Just lose the freaking Apple dude, you will be fine XD

Hello, welcome to droid! I'm surprised at your iPhone battery life. My friends 4S is always running out of juice.
Anyway, recommendations are hard as it also depends on your hand size and preference. I would say Samsung Galaxy S3 or Note II. They both allow battery removal and micro SD and have fast processors, I have an S3 and it charges fast. I currently use the SuperNexus ROM (cm10) and its excellent. For me the idle battery life is excellent, but much improved when rooted and using an app like Juice Defender Ultimate. This saves the faffing of turning WiFi on and off as it does it for you based on training with your nearby cell tower. The app saves juice from adjusting your CPU speed while idle too. There are quite a few features and once setup it does everything automatically, just pick your preferences first.
I use international version of the S3 btw. I'm going to say avoid HTC One X it has a smaller battery and no micro SD option.
Android is great for music playing. Not sure of the iPhones offering as far as equalizers but there are many choices on droid. I recommended the PowerAmp app.
Hope this helps you!
Funny, its excect the way around for me: hate Iphone, like Apple.
Thank you so much for your answers. I will probably go with the SGS3 or the Note II. My brother has a spare SGS2 that I'm going to test with cm10. I know battery is quite worse than SGS3, so if I'm happy with the SGS2 I will be definitely happy with either of the other.
Ignacio
If battery life is important for you, you might also look at an extended battery.
Seidio offers a 3500mAh unit for the S3 (stock is 2100mAh, so it's more than half-again as large). It does add a bit of bulk though and will prevent you from using any case except their cases.
Good luck in getting 36hrs out of any Android phone (with no power management regime) - it just isn't going to happen. Except for maybe a Razr Maxx or Note 2.
Just bought a s3 ,and im pretty happy with it ,just leave you time to understand your phone ...

He said screen is off most the time. I get 4 days out if my defy if it's mostly on standby. 2 days easy with normal usage, and that's only a 1500mah battery. I get a 16 hours on my amaze with 2.5 hours of screen time and syncing email every 5 mins. The screen is the battery hog on the amaze. Also to the op. I know you said no turning WiFi off, but I have an app. Smart WiFi enabler. [Q] Best JB ROM for longest battery life?

Hello
I'm sorry if this has been already asked before but I couldn't find it anywhere. What would you guys recommend as the best Jelly Bean ROM that will give me the longest battery life? I love the JB ROM that I'm using right now, but unfortunately it has got a horrible battery life. There are times where I will go through 3 full batteries in one day. I keep my screen brightness on auto and I don't really play games on my phone but I am a heavy user. I really value applications that use background data such as Gmail and Facebook and others so turning auto syncing is out of the question for me. I also use bluetooth a lot and stream pandora to my car radio for at least 1.5 hours a day. I'm looking for a ROM that can definitely get me through the day on one battery. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I don't think any rom will ever get the battery life you are asking for. With that kind of use, an extended battery is a must. Our phones (Hardware wise) will not do it.

That's not going to happen... Why wouldn't you plug it in when you're using it in the car?
Its not going to happen. You have to take people battery screenshots with a grain of salt. They have WiFi on and basically don't touch their phone. They have nothing syncing. I use neo infected ROM and while at work I mostly only use it to do fb texting and surf xda. I can have 40% battery left after about 12. During that time the usage is 2 10 min breaks and 40 min lunch. With maybe checking a few times an hr to see if the wife has texted me. So that's not real good life as that's light usage.
Like I have told people you have to choose what's more important battery life or using your phone like its was intended to be used.
This is just like a truck forum when people posts how can I get better gas mileage out of my v8. There's no such thing. I tell them want great gas mileage then buy a 4 banger econo box. Same goes for this Want great battery life get a dumb phone. Gotta pay to play.

I'm on Infected 2.6 and I'm surprised at how good the battery life has been. At least, relative to other versions or ROMs. I unplugged it at midnight 2 nights ago and with light usage like you describe, I'm at 19% right now. 4G on, wi-fi off, background sync of 2 gmail accounts, Evernote and Facebook, light txting and about 2-3 phone calls.
I agree with your idea of using the phone like it's intended to be used though. If I get a full day on a charge, I'm happy.
2.7 is out now.

Yeah, get an extended battery. lol. This phone is a battery pacman regardless what ROM or what version of Android you are using. I never use Auto brightness. I just keep it down super low indoors then if I really need it I turn it up a bit outside. My phone stays on the chargers inside and out most of the time. No extended battery will last you all day at heavy use......
