So my friend is currently in NYC, and he's thinking about buying the S2 over there if the price is luring enough.
two parts to my question:
1.) What is the going rate for the S2 in the US right now?
2.) Where would you advise that he buy the device? (Actual stores are preferred to online ones.)
Thanks in advance for your help.
Amazon, expansys, newegg, negrielectronics, xda marketplace...may be few other online sites.
Used ones you may get around $550 - $600. New ones I think $640 plus.

The S2 isn't released yet in the states, so an actual store having it stocked is pretty rare to find. There is only one import store I know of, which is mobilecity who sells it for around 730$ (NYC Tax already counted) with no warranty. TBH your better off ordering online because that's pretty much overpriced already.
Guess i should advise him to just get it locally, thanks!
Hey Guys, is US $300 a good price for a couple of months used SGS 2 international version? I thought I will wait for the SGS3 but I feel like it would be release only after 4 months or so and will be affordable only after another 2 months. Any opinions /suggestions or can I get it cheaper anywhere else? The phone is in good condition.
yes, it is a good price, i doubt that you will find it any cheaper anywhere else.
new goes for 400 - 450.
Yes, it is a good price. I think it is a good option.
Even if you did want to sell it for a SGS3 in the near future it would probably retain its value better than most other phones on the market.
You'd get most of your money back.
I'm looking into getting the 16GB Korean version of the SGP because better specs and DMB. I live in the US, but I'm going to Korea this summer for two months and then moving to Korea permanently Feb 2013.
For people outside of Korea that got it, what website did you use to buy it? I've been looking across Gmarket, eBay, and just found exportprive today. About how much did you pay for it device + shipping?
I'm just thinking about cost comparison-wise whether I should get it now (because I'm sick of iTunes and the drawbacks to Apple; I have an iTouch) or wait until I'm there in June. One thing that I'm worried about that if I buy it online now and something goes wrong (like it bricks) that I'm potentially screwed unless I want to pay massive shipping fees to get it fixed (which I don't) or wait until I'm there this summer and harass someone at a Samsung mobile store.
I paid £130 for mine including shipping, on eBay. Got it fast and had no problems with it. Make sure you use pay pal though as if you get the device and its not working they will refund you ( I think ). Also I believe that for it to be bricked you have to be modifying the system and hacking it etc, in which case it would be your own fault. Hope thus helps.

He specifically said the Korean model... lol you've been commenting on a ton of stuff that's either old or already had answers...
unfortunately I bought in my country U$349
I found this out a few days ago but thought it deserved a thread. So I went to my go to at&t Guy at my store near me and when he tried to look up full retail pricing, he found out that the Note will only be available to purchase by adding two years to your contract. They will not be offering it to be purchased out right at first. He said they do this sometimes when they have an exclusive on a phone for awhile. So you won't be able to pick this BEAST up right away without adding two more years to your contract.... oh well I'm still getting it.
Well sorry for any confusion. It appears all the AT&T people I talked to over the phone our idiots and that the store employees were feed the same crap when they tried to look it up for me. Man you would think they would be on the ball. I think they're seriously underestimating this phone like they did in Europe. I hope that doesn't lead to shortages in the states, like some areas had (Norway from what my friend told me). So you can pre order off contract at 649.99. HAPPY SHOPPING FUTURE NOTE OWNERS!!!!
You can always get one of the Bell/Telus/Rogers units that will be hitting the market here in less than two weeks. Same unit (i717) as the AT&T version but without the AT&T bloatware (and possibly without any external carrier branding on at least the Bell version).
I expect you'll see them on Craigslist for $600, shipping to the US isn't that expensive, and unlocking shouldn't be an issue. And places like Negri or Expansys will also be selling them.
Are you guys sure to get an i717 instead a n7000?
That hardware is less for same price, also devs are working on international version.

Thanks for the great info... I don't know if there the same though cause there were some other differences with the US and Can version of the infuse. Also I already pay 5 bucks a month for the insurance through at&t.

I was wondering if you could ask your guy a question for me if you get the chance. I live in California and the tax laws here are such that we pay tax on the full retail price of the phone, not the upgrade price -- even if we're purchasing as an upgrade. So . . . if they don't have a retail price yet then are they only going to charge me tax on the upgrade price?

I have an N7000, and I don't think the 717 is "less hardware". Same display (most expensive part) same digitizer, same amount of RAM/ROM, same battery, a very close equivalent processor (really, it is, for anyone not running benchmarks all day long), and a better radio that supports both 42Mbs DC HSPA+ and LTE. Plus local warranty and insurance support.
Depends on your priorities, I would think.
i have n7000 and def keeping it, but to the ATT guys that want the i717 your best bet is not rogers in canada.
it will be either bell or telus, both these companys keep their phones unbranded. no carrier stampings on the phone/battery cover.
also ours comes out a week earlier.

In answer to my own question, I just got off the horn with AT&T and they told me that they would only charge tax on the upgrade price if it releases with no retail price.
Also . . . is it just me or does every single thread on these forums mentioning the AT&T version of this device eventually boil down to a snapdraggon flamewar rendering the point of the thread moot?
Looking forward to getting a dedicated forum to the AT&T device.

I went through the flame wars when I got my skyrocket. It is a great phone with an S3 processor. I have the international gnote now, but may consider selling my skyrocket for the att version of the gnote (off contract) so I can keep lte which is prevalent in my state.
But yes the threads will devolve unfortunately, even after the forums split. It is much like how every att lte phone forum devolves into a rant about throttling for the lte unlimited plan members and how att is beyond the evil empire...

If it weren't for the insurance thing I'd offer to sell you my i717 so I can buy an N7000 . . . lol. The no insurance thing on the international versions makes me nervous, though. Of course, AT&T's insurance is kind of bunk, too . . . oi

AT&T sales rep here. Thought I would clear some things up.
This phone WILL be available for purchase without a contract. Just not at first because it is currently not on our shelves. With the preorder, it will only be available as an upgrade w/ a 2 year contract for 299.
On launch day when you are able to buy it in-store, you will have the option to pay the full non-commitment price for the phone.
As for this phone vs the international. They're both incredible devices. Nothing changes that. As we have seen with the Skyrocket, this same hardware has incredible potential. Tons of overclocking headroom while staying stable.
I'm very excited to see it show up in our store.

Maroon . . . thanks for the info!
Don't suppose you have any info on the availability through Amazon Wireless? If and we'll they'll pick it up and whether or not they'll be doing preorders?
If I go through Amazon there's no tax and no shipping . . . so that's a plus. BUT . . . I've been waiting for this phone like a crazy person since before the N7000 release so I almost want to bite on the AT&T preorder so I can get it on the 17th . . . with tax and shipping that's going to be over $50 to pay just for impatience, though

You can certainly buy third party insurance for the international GNote. I bought it for 59 for a year and it includes theft and loss.

Where'd you get the ins? I found a few different places but couldn't find any reviews on whether or not they were any good.
Im sure we'll have it available for outright buying at best buy too. Im sure ATTs insurance will have a monster deductible for a replacement, probably $200 like for the skyrocket and vivid. I know it sounds like a best buy plug but out protection is pretty bangin haha but I break a lot of phones so I really see the benefit of no deductible

Ensquared. I could not find any reviews either after a buddy told me about it. He has a claim for a damaged phone and they covered it. Since I bought an International GNote, I wanted to have it covered since I paid $650 for it. The deductible is based on the amount of damage and $75 maximum.
I did a quick search and saw this. Post #6

I have a virtually brand new sgs2 (white ) its only been used as a spare for my girlfriend until she got her new phone,so its about a month old. It has been rooted but no custom ROMs as she just needed the temp sim unlock which I have now removed again but kept the root enabled. So I would like now to sell it and was wondering how much these are worth today?. Its 3 UK carrier with all leads, headphones etc and boxed and has a screen protector under the original over covers.
Looked around but the variety of prices makes it unclear how much I should sell for,any ideas.........

eBay will give you a guide as to what they're going for I would have thought.
Edit - Scrub what I said about Marketplace. Seems they closed it a couple months ago. Or sites like this. I'd be surprised if you didn't have them in the UK (Google = friend).

Mmmmmm I wanted a community perspective on pricing because like I said I have looked but the variations on pricing are so different everywhere I look. I want to give somebody a bargain/fair price but I don't want to get ripped off either. The phone was free to me and I have a nexus 4 so I don't need the s2. Thanks but no disrespect I don't need links to here and there but would appreciate a comment like.....
" I would not sell it for less than ? "
" I think they are worth about ? "
Kindest regards

i made a research on the used price of the s2 for a friend of mine, and it goes from 250€ to 350€.
i think around 300€ (or 257.55£) is a fair price
Always go a little higher than what you want to sell it at ( 250 = 270 etc.) because people always wants to go down in price .

Well If you're thinking of selling it...do it fast, samsung might drop the price of SGS2 anytime soon, coz its already doing that for many phones like S3 and note 2 etc..
Well it should go for about british 250 pounds(shouldn't go more than that) if you have all required stuff and accessories...
depends on buyer how much he's willing to pay..
Youll get nowhere near £250.I sold mines for £205 on boxing day,and a 3 month old note for £250 the day after that.Done it via eBay and that cost me about £50.
I believe Orange were selling brand new s2 for £199.99 not long after that.
You list the phone for whatever you think its worth and see if anybody bites.
Thanks all
So if I say £200 then that's a fair price yes ? Give or take a few £
Like I said its virtually brand new with I would say no more than 30 hours use.

Well in India you could sell that for about Rs.18000 to a dealer who deals second hand phones... Coz its only a month old...
That guy will increase the price to Rs.19-20000(220 pounds) and sell in the market... That's all I know... confirmed..
Plus markets are pretty different from places to places... Idk whether it's a good or bad idea selling it online...
Better sell it to a friend or someone...coz that person will feel a sense of security and already knows how less you've used it so will be willing to pay more..
Now u shouldn't be selling it nowhere below 170 pounds... Coz am already getting a 4 month used galaxy S2 in that price here...
Rest is your choice..
Sorry I was saying 250 pounds cox I had got conversions wrong..

The price would totally depend on where you want to sell it... Ebay is one thing, local Craigslist is another. As always, it's not what you want to sell it for, but what someone is willing to pay for it. In my local market, my target would be somewhere around $220-$250. $200 would be the lowest I'd sell it for. I bought my SGS2 a month ago for $140 on Craigslist. The only problems with it were the crappy battery and a scratched lens cover, so I had to buy a replacement casing and a new battery (about $30 worth in total)...
Duty free shop:
S II Brand new: $ 640 bucks
S III brand new: $ 740 bucks.
crazy right?
Sell it as Brand new.
