Hello friends! I have my SXS rooted with DooMKernel (Thanx to doomlord)! Now the quest is what apps and what tweaks are available for me?
ADFREE ANDROID! <- Easily the best thing to do with Root
Titanium Backup
SetCPU (or similar)
Root Explorer
Samba Fileshare (makes sdcard partition available over wifi as a normal file share!)
SixAxis (if you have a PS3 controller)
And many more
by adfree did u mean, that I will not have ads in all programs/games :O ?? and this mean more battery life ?!

Remove unneeded apps that came with the device
just setcpu and titanium backup.
and romtoolbox for all in one app.
if want to hack wifi. used droidsheep and wifikill.
you can download the Rom Toolbox light from jrummy
than you can
- kick out unused System apps
- kick out unused files from the system
- play with the CPU frequency and governors for more battery save or more power
- edit the build.prop for different things that do ore shut not do the device from bootup
- edit the autostart to controll witch apps can run automaticly and witch not
- play with the SD booster to make read/write a little bit faster
- change the bootanimation
- configure App2SD to save internal memory
- play with the memory control to set the minimum free space for the device
- backup the apps
also you can (no, you MUST, because its a realy needet app) download the busybox
than you can:
- with droidwall block internetconection for different apps for WIFI and/or for GSM7
- with Permissions Denied you can block the permissions of apps - very usefull if you like an app, but not their maybe to much rights
- you can use Mass Storage mode now (with GingerBread)
- also you can (try) to install a complett Linux on your device
you can now copy, delete, edit, create files in the System folders/partition
in short, you can do the same things now with your device as with a Admin Account an your computer - and like with the computer, if you dont handle with care, you can play around as long you need a reinstall becaus you destroy needet tings
- and, because root on Xperia means also alsways unlocked bootloaders: you can install now custom roms

adb based bloatware removing script
less talk and more work..... so no long introduction here
use it to see it
UPDATE : TIMESCAPE and FBiX Remover scripts (optional) also added in v2
1. rooted device needed
2. usb debugging enabled needed
3. proper adb drivers, usb cable blah blah should be there (since you have rooted device, these must be there with you)
what to do??
1. extract given rar file View attachment bloat_remove_v2.rar
2. run bloatremover.bat (update :: timescaperemover.bat and fbixremover.bat files also present in v2)
3. follow instructions
features??
1. removes unneeded apps (update :: removes timescape&fbix if you want to)
2. gives you option to keep particular apps if you think you don't want to delete it
3. all removed apps will be backed up on pc, so don't worry
IMPORTANT
1. not yet tested on a real xperia s (i have tested it on arc and x10 till now)
old version
View attachment bloat_remove.rar
reserved ........
this DOES NOT remove timescape and fbix
i'll make another script for that.. coming soon !!
UPDATE :: ADDED TS/fBiX remover
I give it a try when i come home

i would like people using the xperia s to tell me if there are any other apps you feel like classifying as "bloat" or "unneeded", so that I'll add them to my script

Hello all,
I am looking forward to root my mobile. But I am not sure which tutorial to follow as their are many.
Also I have few questions :
1. Will any feature wont work if I root my mobile?
2. Are their any harm in overclocking the mobile?
3. Do I need to follow any other tutorial to over clock it or by rooting it will be overclocked?
4. Will the layout be changed or can be chnaged than the default after rooting?
Thank you for reading
Praveer
1. Everything should work if u dont delete its parts
2. I dont see any
3. U need amother app to overclock - eg. No-frills.
4. No. U need to change it on ur own.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. So can I change the whole layout? What I mean is that if we use go launcher ex then only home screen and menu changes buy if you access sub menu like settings then default layout will be shown. So can it also be changed by rooting?
Also please link to a tut for rooting which is perfectly working and all features working coz I read somewhere that for Explorer WiFi was not working. Also please link to overclocking app tut that is really good.
Thank you

Thanks.....How is jaggyjags ROM for overclocking?
Thanks
Custom rom has nothing to overclocking. U need custom kernel. As I see there is custom kernel in jaggyjags ROM <- and this is what let overlclocking. U can use any rom (even stock) but u need to flash custom kernel.
What's the difference between jaggyjags Rom and no frills which you mentioned for overclocking.
Also how do we install custom ROM after rooting our mobile. Please let me know in detail or link me to a tutorial as me doing it for the first time.
Thank you
Rom has nothing to oc, but kernel (which is with this rom i think) can let u overclock, but u cant change it without 3rd party app - eg. No frills (free) or setcpu (paid).
However in this rom u got overclock to 800mhz without using anything.
Sent using r800i with DoomKernel v11 (1.21ghz)
Thanks....So if I got you correct then for I to install jaggyjags Rom I need no frills?
Thanks a lot for answering my questions patiently.
Praveer
No. No frills is only the example of program which let u overclock. U dont need to install it if u dont want to change oc more than it is.
If u dont need more than 800mhz (imcluded in rom - i dont know if it is possible to increase it on ur phone) u dont need to install any apps like no frills

Jaggysrom provides what you need to over-clock with something like No-Frills, No-Frills lets you actually over-clock it.

Be careful when you root, rooting is officially irreversible and can cause problems such as the sd card not being recognized.
Rooting has done so many small problems to my phone, if I had another android phone, I would take advantage of the warranty and not root.
I have followed tutorials for my phone, mostly involving a computer, I can declare that my phone is not an independent device anymore. Be aware of these risks. Without the warranty of android, a phone's lifetime can shorten.
Guys I have sgy but going to get the explorer.
To explain the oc process.
No frills is an app that when you open it, it gives you the choices to set the minimum and maximum speeds in all modes of your device. On sgy the settings would be 832 MHz max and 33? On the low end. With a 400 + setting and 600+ setting. Then a choice of governors which is what limits the performance. Like conservative or performance. You choose. Hope that helps. Btw could it be called an upgrade from sgy to htc explorer? But the real question is, is there a way to install cwm recovery without pc and rooting without pc. Please share links and zips for root unroot and cwm. Thank you.
Proverbs 20: 7
Has anyone used this application? any guide on how to use this app? what settings can be changed and what settings can decrease RAM and battery consumption.
Did u meant, Rom Toolbox Pro?
I'd use this app for few month.
And this application is useful for people who want to setting their android's system, like :
Installing ROM (of course you need installed CWM recovery)
Manage and clearing dalvik cache, and other
Installing ad blocker (with Host)
Manage apps (uninstalling, clearing data, disabling apps, removing system apps, etc)
Changing your phone UI fonts
Changing your system statusbar icon (battery, wifi, signal bar, etc)
Control your cpu governor, I/O, clock speed, etc
Controlling memory management
And many more ...
Why you shouldn't trying to install the app in your phone?
And you will know the feature from this app
*Sorry for my bad english

Yes you can, if you have root! And if your running stock kernel maybe you should used extended stock kernel (if you have unlocked your bootloader)(or want too), it has OC/UC/UV support as far as I'm aware. If you need a copy of it pm me.

Hello everyone,
There have been some time that new ICS firmware for Neo L is posted, and over time i manage to get a collection of patches that enable Xperia Play's touchpads.
Thread that i found it can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189311 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176936
Since no one posted it as flashable zip, i guess i could do it.
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8eMrl6yvYKyQXl2ZVdCWVJTcWM/edit?usp=sharing
I had to make compatible with Lupus ICS/GB V4 Kernel (system less then 280MB), so that means i had taken some apps from /system/app to /data/app (on the bright side, apps in data can all be deleted, for debloating purposes)
It should be compatible with other ICS stock kernels, but i didn't test it
Screenshots are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38841129&postcount=57
Credits for touchpad fix goes to Markpython for editing framework.res and framework.jar

Touchpads are compatible as any other ICS ROM, but i don't think it's perfect as in gingerbread.
Antutu score is around 4500 to 5500OC.
All phone functions works (GSM at leats). I mean, it don't have much features like other ROMS, but what it have, it works 100%
So far i didn't find any bugs (if there are any, it is most likely due my attempts to make a ROM out of Firmware files  )
As i see it, it is good ROM base-starter. To be modified, when deodexed... (this one is still odexed)
FInally as u promise a stock ics wthout fancy heavy apps.
Downloading now, let's see...
Edit: 2 things:
-why the quick google search bar doesn't do anything if i click on it?
-The system apps in /data/apps maked kinda messed up settings, but u could erase some usless stuff (like Wisipilot or Mc Afee) , like the guy before me wrote: "To be modified, when deodexed... (this one is still odexed)"

I know what you mean, but as i said, the point of this "ROM" is to be as close as flashing FTF. I don't consider this as "my" ROM, it is for everyone else to download/look/edit/compare and this thread can be used for discution about mods that can be done with this rom...
My idea was to have stock ICS from Neo L that work on Play (with touchpads)
And i had problems with system size (system+vendor partition on FTF is much larger, around 340MB, and it hardly be squeezed to 280MB, to be compatible With Lupus ICS/GB V4)
I did some changes based on this for my personal use, and i'll upload that version tommorow as "my" ROM tommorow (upload speed sux for me)
Ps: as i said before, stock ROMs are always bloated

OK i understand your point of view.
Anyway, i reboot just to be sure and...well there's definitely something wrong with wi-fi. It's incredibly slow.

Maybe I spoke too soon, wait. Maybe it is me after all.
By the way, thank u. I always wanted a simple "original" stock ics for our Xperia Play. Why no one never ever did it?

So everything works here?
I basically just use my phone for N64oid, gameboid, Real Racing 3 and a lot of music and social networks (Instagram, Twitter, Face). So I don't care too much about touchpads unless I install a game like Fifa12 or Dead Trigger. But the problem I always have with all the ICS I've tested is that games like Real Racing 3 always closes (because of RAM).
Found a bug, the same on True Ancestor so i'm just gonna link it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40423492&postcount=118
Yeah, everything should work, only bug so far is double-tab opening when startint browser from bookmark shorctcut (as DanyXP said). Maybe it's firmware fault, i'll check afternoon on flashed FTF.
As for free RAM, you can use 480p version of kernel, it gives 30MB extra free RAM, at cost of lower resolution at video recording (i personaly can't see the difference, and for me, 720p version recording is look like upscale of 480p recording)
I don't have real racing 3, and most RAM intensive game that i played was SIMS freeplay

Guess what, i just checked on a Xperia Mini Pro with stock official ICS, no root, nothing modified and...the bug browser is here as well!
This Xperia Mini Pro has 4.1.B.0.587 but Hybrid Rom use the same build and has no bugs. How is that?

Thanks for info, it means it's firmware's bug. And i notice it's not just shortcut, it open two tabs from every aplication that have links who open browser (Timescape and XDA, for example).
Ps: Well, Krisdee is great dev, i'm sure he fix that bug.

I have no idea why it's working in Krisdee's ROM and why it's not working in SE official firmware...
But it's just small bug. Not so important IMHO
This don't help?
