[Q] Unlocked Lumia 800 and APN/MMS Settings - Nokia Lumia 800

Hi all,
So I bought a factory unlocked Nokia Lumia 800 to use while travelling, and ideally I'd like to have it signed in to my US Live ID so that I can have my music with me while I travel (which is all Zune pass) and my paid apps and contacts etc., and have my AT&T microSIM in it before I get to Costa Rica, then switch to a Kolbi/ICE microSIM while I am in Costa Rica.
The issue is I can't seem to find any way to configure the settings for internet and MMS. Before signing into my Live account, I can see Network Settings app in marketplace, but then it goes away. I read online that if you hit ##634# it gives you a Diagnostic menu with options for MMS and APN settings, but when I do this the app has no settings option.
If I make a UK Live ID, I can download network settings, which detects and configures both AT&T and Kolbi/ICE, but I no longer have my music or paid apps.
How can I get this to work? If I use my US Live ID and AT&T microSIM and just add the Kolbi/ICE APN when I am in Costa Rica, will this work, except with no MMS?
Is there another way for me to install the Network Settings app with my US Live ID?
Is there any way to have my Live ID on the device, with the ability to use both AT&T and Kolbi/ICE web access? Or do I have to just use fake Live ID and network settings app and deal with not having my music and whatnot?
Help!

I also have this problem. TIM Lumia 800 unlocked. After hard reset i can't find Network setup app on Marketplace, and above QR code is for app on other market and i can't install it. I have US Windows Live account

I have the same problem, if somebody has the xap maybe we could side load it.

Apparently Nokia pulled the Network Setup app from the market due to Interop Security Bug, I've read they are updating it and it will return at some point

not true. Portuguese marketplace has the app available.

In which country have the Marketplace

I already tried sideloading it; doesn't work.

It works for indian market, not for others. I found that my MMS just works without app. It is strange because before restore it wouldn't work without having Network Setup installed and selected my provider from list. Now i can't get app but it just works, i don't know how

Did you have to do anything else for it to work (interop-unlock and all that) or did you just get it SIM unlocked with the PIN code and it just worked? I have an unlocked T-Mobile 710 that I'm using with Straight Talk AT&T SIM card, and I had to install the Tango ROM because I can't get MMS to work without the Network Setup app (which comes with Tango as an installed app).

My phone is simfree but TIM Italia branded. It seems that now somehow detect my provider settings without app. My phone isn't interop unlocked unfortunately. I think that major problem is US providers and i had a problem because i have an US Live ID

I always that it was the region of your phone and not the Live ID?

Because of Live ID i can't get Network setup. It seems that only US Marketplace is missing that app

Unlocked Nokia Lumia 800 with MMS Working
I bought a factory unlocked Nokia Lumia 800 to use while travelling too. What a pain it was to get MMS working when I got back to the US! Thanks AT&T for making it sooo easy, NOT!
Here is what I did:
Changed Region+Language to English (United States)
Shut Down and Restart
Dialed ##634# (1st time I was able to press Send, 2nd time it launched Diagnostics)
Shut Down and Restart
Set APN to wap.cingular (Settings, Cellular, Add APN)
Used bing Image Search on my phone to scan QR code to download the Network Setup App
Set Network Selection back to Automatic (Settings, Cellular)
Launched Network Setup App
Add new APN
Connection Name: ATT
Internet APN Settings (if not listed below leave blank)
Access Point Name: wap.cingluar
MMS APN Settings (if not listed leave blank)
MMS Access Point Name: wap.cingular
Proxy Address: wireless.cingular.com
Proxy Port: 80
MMSC Address: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Nothing really new, just putting it all in one place for easy access for the next person.
Good Luck!
Tim

HTC Rezound is a World/Global Phone [CONFIRMED] but One MAIN problem (so need DEVS)

Okay first off I can CONFIRM THE REZOUND IS A GLOBAL PHONE (lets just get that out of the way).
EVIDENCE
Okay so I purchased my HTC Rezound form an American eBayer and he shipped it to me just after Christmas (i live in the UK), i was already under the impression that the Rezound was a global phone but just before it arrived everyone was saying that it doesn't have the GSM or WCDMA networks which made me sad
But when it arrived i thought i would try what i thought would work, sooooo i place the sim card in the phone and powered it up. After setting it up i went to the phones dialer and dialed: *#*#4636#*#* and then went to phone information and changed the network type. I was shocked to find that there was many options including 'GSM only' and 'WCDMA only' . So i switched the phone to WCDMA only and the phone picked up signal and showed T-Mobile in the notification bar .
(I got my data by adding the T-Mobile APN and then going to wi-fi settings>>advanced and changed the time till wifi switches to mobile network to 15 mins (then waited 15 mins))

Problems (That i think can be fixed)
Okay so the only two problems are:
1. I can receive and make calls, can use data (internet) but i can only receive texts and not make them?
(When i try to send a text, as soon as i press send the network signal shuts off and i have to press no when a message appears that says something like "would you like to try and send text when phone has signal?")
Anyone know how to fix? Is this T-Mobile UK SMSC Number?: +447958879879
I HAVE TRIED:
1. Changing SMSC number under: *#*#4636#*#* (there is no option in the HTC Mms.apk (Messaging app))
2. Changing to/installed HTC Sensation XE's [SENSE 3.5] Mms.apk and still same problem (also made sure the SMSC number is correct)
Screenshot to show texts not sending and network stops: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B0U8I71u15EGYTFhMGEwZmMtMzYwZi00MTdkLWI2MGQtYmIxMDljNGUyZDgy
2. And the other is just to get rid of the lockscreen message that says "This SIM card is from an unknown source".
TEMP FIX (Until Reboot): If the ROM you are using has the tweaks menu (MikROM) then you can go to Miscellaneous Options>>>Choose Lockscreen Style and select 'Android Lockscreen', Then Restart or Hot Restart and change the option back to 'HTC Sense Lockscreen'. THIS WILL REMOVE THE 'This SIM card is from an unknown source' message, but this process must be done every time your battery dies or you turn off the phone.
(still better than the ugly message every time you turn on the phone screen).

So please could some DEVS work on this cause this is another great advantage to the Rezound that was let down by the Verizon tailored HTC Sense.
This
You just need the exact right apns for sending texts. I hope you deleted the Verizon ones?
I'd do an APN backup of an htc t mobile phone, then in the rezound delete apns, then restore apns
I use apn backup and restore
Mb you've already done exactly this but thought I'd suggest. Need to customize a few apns for your phone number, mb didn't customize all of them? Our if Verizon one still sits there?
Possibly need a copy of an mms.apk from a gsm phone because some settings built into the Verizon apk may make it fail to send
I did delete the verizon ones, and i only filled in the T-mobile APN like this and left all other settings blank:
APN: general.t-mobile.uk
Username: user
Password: pass
Dude, seriously.... DOES NOT BELONG IN DEVELOPMENT!
Back in my experience with AT&T, there was a phone number for the messing center that needed to be input. Otherwise, you couldn't send text but could receive them. Do you'll need 2 things ... the phone number to your carrier's messaging center and the place to input it in your phone.
I did a quick look and couldn't find the field. But that's what you're missing.

No, it does not belong in development. Development is for WORKING MODS/HACKS/ROMS/KERNERLS/ETC, not to talk about or request Developer help. Hence why it was moved.
I think it is funny that people think that the Devs are locked in the development forum and can't get out. That the only place to reach them is in there . Yes they can and do read other forums!

That would be because you used the VZW sim which only works on certain frequency. They are talking about unlocking the sim and using one that authenticates for GSM/WCDMA/LTE.
The MMS.apk app you have is the CDMA version of it so no you will not have access to the SMS center number... You need to have the mms.apk from a GSM sense phone to have access to that settings, but even then you will probably run into problems.
Problems like.. Resolutions issues, FC's ... It not working at all
OR... Its a universal apk and a simple edit with in one of the XMLs would enable that options or something..... Food for thought

try pushing the mms.apk and such from a european sensation sense 3.5 rom. Then reboot into recovery and clear the cache and dalvik cache. Maybe that will work for you.

[MOD][ROOT] VZW GN2 GSM Unlock - Add APN Data - Remove Non-Verizon SIM Message

Overview:
There are a number of threads out there discussing if the VZW GN2 is carrier unlocked and what methods work, etc and I am creating this thread to pull it all together.
First and foremost, the VZW GN2 comes SIM unlocked out of the box. It is global ready and you can technically put in any SIM (assuming it is active) and not need an unlock code or the unlock method you have seen in other posts (AT&T or T-Mobile variants). This includes domestic carriers such as AT&T and T-mobile. Also voice should work without any changes, however, data will not work unless you add APN data.
Verizon chose to only put their APN data on the phone and block the ability to add APN data via settings. Most likely so you use their global services to make more $$$.
How to add APN data:
In order to get data working you have to add carrier specific data to the apns-conf.xml file. While you may have been able to do this is in the past on other devices under settings, VZW has blocked this.
Method 1:
See Adrynalyne's post below (Post #2) for a flashable mod (via custom recovery) that will enable the Add APN menu by removing Verizon's block. (For deodexed roms only)
Method 2:
Ensure your phone is rooted
adb pull /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
Add the carrier data to apns-conf.xml with your favorite text/xml editor and save
adb push your modified apn-conf.xml file back to /sdcard/
Copy this file back to /system/etc/ and change permissions (I use root explorer)
Power down and change your SIM card (AT&T, T-mobile, whatever) if you hadn't already done so
Power back on and go to Settings -> More Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names (if done properly you should see the APN data you entered for your respective carrier).
Select one of the APN listings and then you should have working data
Profit
VZW & AT&T APN Settings:
A working example so you can see how I added additional lines at the beginning for AT&T 3G/HSDPA+/Tether/MMS
http://pastebin.com/ms7a07sE
Removing the Non-Verizon SIM message :
This will occur on roms that include Samsung's Setup Wizard (including stock) - all others can ignore
Method 1:
- Freeze "Setup wizard 1.0" in Titanium Backup
Method 2:
See imnuts' post below (Post #4) regarding replacing a file (for deodexed roms only)

NOTE: I am not responsible for any issues caused by tinkering around with this due to the nature of root and messing with /system. Use this at your own risk and ask someone if you have any question before doing something that may mess up your device.
Ok, I have confirmed this to work, and works well with imnut's mod to remove the sim warning.

This enables the apn editor under settings.
Go to Settings, More Settings, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names, menu button.
This is a flashable mod!

Note to rom devs: Feel free to use this, but give credit where due. Trust me, I will know if you kang it
If anyone is interested, I combined the International Note 2 (N7100), AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon apns-conf.xml file to create what is hopefully a fairly complete APNs list. Not saying it will work for your carrier, or that it works at all (remember, I don't have a device yet ), but people can use it if they wish. I put it on Pastebin for everyone's viewing pleasure and you can get it here.
I hate double posting, but if people also want to get rid of the annoying ongoing notification when using a non-VZW SIM card, I've found the culprit and fixed it. Download this apk for a deodexed ROM and replace the original in /system/app/, then reboot. Make sure that /system is mounted as read/write before copy/pasting, and also that you're on a deodexed ROM. After copying it over, reboot and you shouldn't have the ongoing notification anymore.
Thanks will be needing this in January

The FCC test report shows CDMA 800/1900 and then GPRS/EDGE 850/1900 and UMTS 850/1900, plus LTE band 13. Not sure if there are other frequencies it supports or not, but maybe you can dig through the report to find more.
If that's true then the VZW Note II is useless outside of the Americas. In Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, the GSM bands used are 900/1800. Seems kinda dumb that it works on AT&T's frequencies but not on frequencies used in the rest of the world.

Debranding AT&T Lumia 920

Hi,
is there any way to put a different ROM on an AT&T Lumia 920.
I intend to use it overseas but I need the Internet Sharing option enabled (wifi hotspot) and as far as I know AT&T and Rogers has it blocked by default.
Any help on this?
Thanks

But does it enable it to any carrier?
Because I have read that this app has predefined APNs for some selected carriers, and I'm planning to use it on carriers that may not be listed on it.
Actually, it uses the APN's from the SIM and it works really good.

Are you asking if a ROM flash will unlock your phone so that you can use a different carrier's SIM? You'd need to do that first. Then you can use Access Point.
Are you saying that the access point app enables tethering on AT&T without a tethering plan???
If so, I suppose anyone can sideload this app and start tethering on AT&T without flashing new ROMs?

I can't either, its region/ROM specific in the Nokia store apparently. You would need to sideload if anything or else flash a different ROM to get the app.
Can we sideload apps on WP8?
I didn't know this app was not available for all regions.
Try with your own risk for you can't uninstall this. The only way to remove this is through factory reset.

Hmm, does anyone know if you select AT&T 3G, does that then disable LTE? Is there any benefit to have one of those AP's selected over the others?

I suspect this:
When a carrier has LTE aside from GSM it has to have two different APNs since there are different core networks.
That's why you have to have at least 2 APN configured, one for LTE ( the data will go thru LTE data core) and when the phone is out of LTE coverage, in 3G/2G GSM it uses the other APN configured for GSM data.
you can confirm this by just leaving only one APN configured and try to use data on LTE and 3G HSPA, only one should work depending on which APN you configured.

I see, so what you are saying is if I select 3G, it should automatically switch to one of the LTE ones. But if I select 3G and delete the other two, it will only work on 3G?
I would test that theory, but my device will not let me delete or modify the built in APNs (guessing it's an ATT restriction).
Thanks!

Try with your own risk for you can't uninstall this. The only way to remove this is through factory reset.

Once installed, it will be on Settings. As far as I know, you need an unlocked device to make internet sharing works. (I could be wrong)
APN wise, it should automatically detect the settings of your carrier from the SIM. I never really messed with it as much. I was just curious about the app hehe.
If you guys need more help, go to wpcentral's forums and search for access point. There are tons of threads about it.
well guys, I'm onboard. I just ordered my unlocked AT&T lumia 920 and as soon as it arrives I will install this app.
Thanks everyone for their sharing.
Installed the app and I'm still not able to enable Internet Sharing. In Access Point there are two LTE options and one 3G. For both LTE options attempting to enable LTE gives the message about going to the AT&T website.
With the 3G option it simply saying "Internet sharing isn't currently available".
Same to me

Fix for MMS: Global ROM on T-Mobile

After searching for many days, I was unable to find a real fix for my MMS issues when using any Global based ROM. Everything else worked perfectly, except for MMS. I cound not send or receive. This is how I was able to resolve the issue:
The first thing to do is delete any APN's that are currently listed.
Next add the APN for T-Mobile data:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then add the MMS APN:
Your list of APN's should look like this:
After creating the APN's, you'll need to install the JB AOSP messaging app from here:
http://concentriclivers.com/android/Messaging-4.0.3-8.apk
This is a previous version of Tim Hutt's Android 4.1 JB Messaging SMS found in the Play Store. (In the current version, MMS is broken)
The next steps requires the Pro version of Titanium Backup. In TB Pro, freeze the stock messaging app:
The next step is optional, but will allow the JB messaging app to remain installed after a data reset. In TB Pro, convert the new messaging app to a System App:
After you convert it to a System App, you should no longer see the option to uninstall under "App Info". The uninstall option should be replaced by "Disable":
The only thing to do now, is test it out by sending an MMS message. This may work with other messaging apps (e.g., Go SMS) however I did not test any others besides the AOSP app. This fixed my MMS issue. I hope it help those who are having the same problem. Good luck! :good:
I'll give this a try! Been banging my head against mms for a week or two now..
Is removing all the APNs a required step? For example, if the rom I choose already has tmobile Internet and tmobile mms listed like your screenshot?
Good find, hope it works for me!

You should be OK if you already have the two APN's listed. Just make sure they have the same settings as the ones posted above.

Confirmed, worked great for me. Thanks a ton for this. Mms was the only thing keeping me away from sense roms.
Let the crack-flashing commence!

You should be able to use MMS. If you're running OS 4.1 or later you'll want to go by these instructions:
Android 4.0 & 4.1 (Ice Cream Sandwich & Jelly Bean) - Internet and MMS
Pull down the notifications screen & tap on Settings
Tap on Mobile Data (some phones say "more")
Tap Mobile Networks (some phones have "Access Point Names" here)
Tap Access Point Names
Press the menu button
Select New APN
Name: SIMPLE Mobile
APN: simple
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC:http://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: Not set
MMS Port: Not set
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN Type: default,supl,mms,admin
If no APN settings are present, a restore to factory default settings may be required.
Select Menu and Save
Go back one screen to the APN list and tap on the dot to Enable the SIMPLE Mobile APN
Restart phone & you're set!

This won't work. You'll need to create a data APN and an mms APN. The APN Type will change to "default,hipri" whenever the "default" type is entered and the APN is saved. For simple, follow my directions above and substitute the values for Simple Mobile.
Hey Guys I have a Factory HTC Rezound and I went to switch it to Tmobile and they said it needs to be unlocked. After much reading it looks like it comes factory unlocked. Do I need to flash a special Rom to get it to take a Tmobile sim? Also will 3g /4g work ?

While Verizon may say it is factory unlocked, it isn't. Look up a tutorial on how to unlock the gsm antenna. That'll do the trick. While you're at it. Install a custom rom, too.
This isn't an easy process by any means. So prepare for frustration. If modifying your phone isn't something you are comfortable with or you just don't have the time. I would suggest finding a member who is reputable on here to remote flash it for you. ( Be nice and tip well) or just sell the Rezound and by something new.

[Q] APN edit grayed out Dutch SIM, set to GSM

My gf bought a Verizon S4 last week and is now here in The Netherlands trying to get this Dutch Vodafone SIM card working. It accepts the SIM and it makes calls/receives texts. But data isn't working because the correct APN settings can't be added.
I set the network type to GSM (or Global, doesn't change anything), restart the phone, but the necessary options are unavailable. There's a big + button in the bottom of the APN list to add APN's, but it's grayed out. Same goes for the only option visible under the menu button (something like 'Reset to defaults').
Any ideas?

Interesting. I use a UK sim and it works OK. Verizon doesn't enable the APN function when there's a Verizon SIM inserted.
I wonder if there's a similar block for Vodaphone since Verizon owns a chunk of them.

Anyone know if I can change the APN some way now that I've rooted the phone?
7 months later and my girlfriend has moved to the Netherlands last week. Obviously she wants to use her Verizon S4 with a Dutch carrier permanently now, but even with the latest firmware there's still no way to change the APN settings and it's pissing me off.
Another cry for help, I hope there's a way to fix this!

There's a few things to try.
1. Try installing an APN application. "Offline SIM APN Database" shows up in some Google searches.
2. It may be that using a custom ROM will allow you to bypass that lock.
3. Try some other carrier's SIM to see if it unlocks the APN settings. The lockout happens when there's a Verizon SIM installed. I suspect it also happens with Vodaphone SIMs.
have her reboot into safe mode wipe everything then install the stock rom. i did the same , same phone and there is no trouble adding my apn from another carrier.. its completely stock..

The APN application isn't able to set APN data anymore since JellyBean. When I pop in the Vodafone SIM it says it's a Verizon SIM but shows Vodafone as the carrier. That's kinda weird.
I could install a custom ROM, but I'd rather not honestly. It's not my phone. That'll be a last resort.
I currently don't have a SIM for another carrier available and would like to use Vodafone anyway, since they have the plan that best fits her needs anyway. I'll see if I can pick up a cheap Prepaid SIM later.

I think your only resort is to talk to Vodaphone and have them tell you what to do.
The lock happens when the firmware on the Verizon phone detects a Verizon SIM. Vodaphone is Verizon,so it's supposed to configure an APN by default with the right settings (it's disabled to keep you from messing with it and causing the phone to fail.) I think the APN data is stored on the SIM and loaded when the SIM is recognized, so perhaps your Vodaphone SIM just needs that loaded.
So, two choices: get Vodaphone to fix it (they'll probably tell you that the phone is not supported), or buy a new phone to use with Vodaphone.
You're lucky that it didn't just activate the standard VZ plan in the Vodaphone area - $20.48 per megabyte.
I bought a €10 KPN prepaid SIM just to test it, and I'm able to add the APN now.
Unfortunately, this will probably mean I can't get a Vodafone subscription because of Verizon's messed up "security". Glad I don't have to deal with that company again...
I don't see Vodafone be able to help since they have no connection to Verizon whatsoever and obviously can't change anything about the phone either.
Thanks for the help guys!
