[Q] First time boot of cyanogen 9 taking 20+ minutes? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Just installed cyanogen 9 and started up my fun, and it's stuck on the boot screen. It's been looping the animation for a good 20-30 minutes now. Is this normal? Will it eventually stop and load up the OS? Should i reinstall the rom? I'm new to flashing roms, and honestly have no idea what to do.
I rooted the phone
installed mobile odin pro
flashed siyah v2.6.14
installed cyanogen 9 and gapps from recovery
started up the phone
like i said before, it's just looping the cyanogen mod 9 animation.
HELP!

Did u use stock recovery or cwm? I hope read the stickies before u did anything

Did you press wipe data/ factory reset in recovery? That'll do it.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5

Same thing happened to me. Install cyonagenmod9zip using CWM you have to do it 2 times in a row then do a factory reset and reboot the phone. After the reboot go into CWM mode and install the Googlezip apps and reboot sys againg.
Good luck and enjoy.

And how exactly could he use stock recovery after flashing Siyah? Clearly he read the stickies.
Pro tip:
- Don't try to say something authoritative if you don't really, really know what you're talking about.

OP, did you wipe data AFTER flashing ROM???

Thanks everyone for the help, i managed to get it up and running. I think I forgot to wipe after I installed everything.

Did NONE of you notice he said "Siyah 2.6.14"? This is the reason you are getting bootloops. That is a Gingerbread kernel. You need Siyah version 3.x.x for an ICS ROM as it is an ICS kernel.

[Q] Galaxy S 2 not booting with any custom kernel

Hey guys,
So i have my S2 for like 6 months now and never had any issue with flashing custom roms/kernels till yesterday. i installed XXKI4 and everything went perfect.
Few hours later i decided to flash CM7( wiped system, data, cache dalvik etc and flashed the zip 2x) so after this i rebooted my phone and it gave a bootloop. I was not able to boot in recovery mode so i had to reflash with odin to a stock rom. Well i did that and i was on stock rom again. i decided to flash the latest speedmod kernel, i flashed it and bam phone not booting, shows the Samsung Galaxy S II GT-i9100 text with the yellow triangle and its stuck at this screen for an hour now. i just cant use ANY custom kernel/rom on my phone because they all give bootloops and i want CM7 so bad. Any idea's and suggestions will be truly welcome.
Stock Samsung Roms are working great, but dont want that ;p
thx!

Have you done 2x flash in a row of CM7? its a know bug (but unknown reasons) it just dosnt start until you flash it 2x in a row.
Suggested method:
1. Enter ClockWorkMod recovery
2. Wipe data/cache factory reset
3. Wipe cache
4. From mount and storage menu, use Format System
5. From advanced menu, use the Wipe dalvik cache
6. Flash CM7 latest nightly
7. Reflash CM7 latest nightly
8. Reboot the phone
Not sure if this can help you, since you experience a problem that is not exactly the one i saw some times on forum (you cant even enter recovery mode after the flash) but this is how usually ppl makes CM7 work
Oh on a side note, i suggest to not use rom manager, it's confirmed (at least, from various posts here on xda) to not be really 100% working on our SGS2 and can cause problems.
If all this isnt working, it may be worth downgrade to KI3 or KH3 stock one, root again and then do the above system.
I can assure you 100% this system works over KI3 and KH3
yep you need to flash 2 x CM7.
First time it will flash very fast.
Go back to the stock rom and then install CM7 again
can you boot in CWM or are you getting some errors ?

nah, this won't do it, believe me! coz i have exactly same issue with mine. I've done this countless number of times and nothing works... i just came to accept the fact that my phone doesn't support custom anything whether kernel or ROMs, until someone finds out the solution.
meanwhile you can try siyah kernel 1.7.8 or so, it worked with mine, see if it works with yours.
cheers!

i know this problem, my phone was stuck at boot too but i flashed back to stock rom and i fixed my phone. my problem was i can't use cwm its was dead.
i already tried to flash cm7 like 10 times and it doesnt work i can only boot stock roms with the speedmod kernel other kernels give bootloop.
Ugh this is pretty frustrating, will try to downgrade to xxki3.
Btw, after i flashed Cm7 twice my phone bootloops, then when i flash a CWM kernel to boot in recovery mode i get Can't mount /cache/blabla. really weird, i have never seen this on a phone ! =)
Yay its working!! downgraded to XWKI4 and flashed the cwm kernel! now im running CM7! thx peeps! =)
For the other people that had problems, you have to flash the codeworkx kernel because cf root kernel has a modified CWM that is not compatible withCM7
i have almost the same problem, but me i can flash any rom,but the problem is with the kernel my phone refuses to boot on any other kernel else than cf-root and the speedmod,it freezes in the kernel loading so i must turn it off and reflash via odin cf-root or speedmod to get it works again.

Yes, its all the same problem, flashing a rom with a diff kernel won't boot up, will just be stuck on boot logo...
---------- Post added at 12:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:24 PM ----------
Phew! NOW I HAVE CM7 RUNNING ON MY PHONE!!
I'm gonna try to explain how i fixed my issue, as clear and explanatory as i can..
lucky i didn't brick my phone during all this, because I tried so many things and none worked.I unsuccessfully tried downgrading to XWkI4, ZCKI4, and alot others via Odin... after flashing all i get is tons of error messages(on 3e recorvery) E: can't open/cache or E:failed blah bla bla to load /efs... i thought OMG! my phone is bricked! then i recalled reading somewhere that flashing the 3 tar (PDA,MODEM,CSC) files usually should work(maybe better than flashing a 1 tar file), so i found a 3 files xxKI3 rom, flashed it and BAM! it booted up this time without any error. so now i went ahead and rooted it since the tar files came unrooted, then went into CWM to flash cm7 ROM, flashed it twice and ofc i got stuck on boot logo.....i didn't panic much, i pulled out the battery, and restarted to CWM where i cleared cache/ dalvik/ and did wipe/factory reset, then i reflashed CM7 again (twice) and it worked!!!! YES, CM7 is fiannly working on my SG2!
thanks for everyone for helping, and i hope this can help others in same boat as me..

Unable to install CyanogenMod 7 again!!!

Hello guys,
I would have not made this post without a reason! I have searched the froum and used google for over 2 days but dont have a solution for my problem that's why i opened the thread!
My SGS2 was on CyanogenMod 7 and i decided to try the leaked version of 4.0.3 (I9100XXKP8 to be exact) so i preformed a full backup via recovery!
After this i flashed 4.0.3 using ODIN and used it did a root on it and istalled CM9. I did this just to see the real difference between the 2 firmwares. Everything worked great i had no problems at all.
After i was finished playing around with the firmwares i decided to restore my CM7 backup! I had no problems booting into recovery and the restore worked fine! no errors or anything. After i selected to reboot my device i got a Kernel Panic and couldn't do anything!
So i flashed KI3 stock from sammobile and rooted it via CF and then again i tried to install CM7 which goes fine through the install no errors! when i select to reboot the phone i have the ''Samsung galaxy s2 screen'' in a reboot loop! I reflashed the phone again with KI3 and tried again i followed the instruction step by step including wiping data/factory reset and wiping cache the same thinghappens. I tried to restore the CM7 back which i made, the restore process goes through but i get a kernel panic! So i reflashed KI3 again i thought it could have been the bootloader... i got the old boot loader and flashed it but i keep getting the boot loop! The strange thing is i can flash CM9 and it works but CM7 will not install on my phone at all! I have tried flashing it 10 times in the last 2 days.
Can anyone help me fix this and get back to CM7 because i dont know what to do anymore my flash count went from 5 to 39 in the last 2 days!
Note: i have tried using recovery and RomManager neither of them work! Also tried Stable CM 7.1.0 and nightly builds!
Try this and then restore again:

Hi,
i have tried this now and i am still getting a reboot loop! So it dose not work at all :[
I'v had the same problem. It was solved by flashing the .pit file for cm7 with odin.
That is very strange. I assume that you did a factory reset after that procedure?

Yes i reset everything there was i did this whole guide step by step about 20 times tried everything! i even had help from the guys working on CM9. They couldn't help and told me to open a thread here :[
Well, the pit file is probably the best bet then. Good luck when you get it.
By the way I meant a factory reset after the kernel clean and restore.
Kernel clean -> restore -> factory reset.

I have tried this still no luck :[ Also tried previous back ups but the are not working either. I also tried to flash Villian rom 3 now and the only thing that happens it stays on ''Samsung Galaxy s2'' screen no reboot or anything for bout 10 min. tried to go into recovery but it isn't working :[ back to flashing KI3 again!
Which kernel were you using when you originally made that cm7 backup? Was it the stock cm7 kernel or perhaps siyah's? The kernel panics are probably due to using a cm9 kernel(recovery 5.5...) to restore a cm7 backup and then using cf-roots ki3 kernel(recovery 4.2...)to restore a cm7 backup. I'd try flashing siyah's kernel(recovery 5.0...) through odin and then try to restore that backup.

Now i have also tried to do a fresh install of CM7 with the 5.0.2.7 recovery but it didn't work! I would be great full if anyone could help me!
Boot into recovery
wipe data/factory reset
goto mounts and storage > format system
install cm7 from sd card, then install it again right after
reboot
If this doesn't work throw the phone against the wall because this should work, unless flashing those bootloaders messed something up, or you flashed the wrong one.
as a last resort....
flash stock firmware.
flash cfroot kernel
try to flash cm again.
always works for me.

[Q] HELP! Can't Escape TWRP!

I can't escape TWRP!
My setup is this:
ROM: THS build 10
Kernel: ICYGlitch v14
Recovery: TWRP (included with ICYGlitch)
Recently, I wanted to flash ParanoidAndroid. I rebooted into TWRP via the power menu, made a backup, and tried to flash. It gave the error E: signature verification failed. Later, I tried turning off signature verification, but then it gave me another error. I then tried to flash cwm4_fixed_for_cm7, but it gave me the same error. Then I tried flashing the recovery through ODIN. It said it succeeded, but it still loads TWRP as the recovery. Help! I can't escape!
P.S. I know my way around the Fascinate, I'm not a complete noob.
try flashing cm7, then back to ICS, ...if all else fails odin back to stock start over.
Maybe
That would work, but I'd rather keep the Glitch kernel and stay on THS than start over. And there must be a way to change the recovery included with Glitch?
Let us know how that turns out for you. Good luck.

I figured it out. I was able to flash an older version of Glitch with CWM recovery.
How did you flash an older version of glitch in cwm if you were stuck in twrp? I though you couldnt flash anything. I am confused???
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Sorry. I meant TWRP. Here is the procedure that I used. I don't know if it is necessary, but it worked.
1. make a nandroid
2. restore to stock
3. ODIN cwm
4. install THS build 1
5. install THS 10 (substitute whatever ROM you're using)
6. install newest Glitch (with TWRP)
7. restore nandroid
8. install older, CWM glitch
I think this works because nandroids don't restore the recovery partition.
I was having instability with the older Glitch version, so I flashed the newer version again, and I can still flash stuff.
Okay. I got it now. I thought the whole reason you didn't want to start over was because you didn't have a backup of your current setup. That is why people were saying that you were going to have to start over.
Glad it worked out.

[Q] SGS2 Bricked on ROM 1 after downgrading from JB 4.1.1

Hi,
This is my first post so i apologise if its in the wrong place. I have been running ICS 4.0.3 for quite some time and decided it was time to try a different ROM. I installed AOKP 4.1.1, gapps_jb_signed with Siyah kernel S2.4.1.5 ( i think). After a few days it kept hanging etc and switching off as i would expect a build in development to do. Anyway i flashed a new kernal to change the look (dark demonoid or something like that) and then rebooted. My phone was now properly bricked like i'd never seen before and would'nt even go into recovery mode. After a day or two of trying everything I could to get it to at least boot i flashed Siyah kernel knowing that it had a dual boot option. Low and behold it worked but only in the 2nd ROM mode where i was able to restore my old ICS 4.0.3 from Nandroid backup. The problem I have now is that when i try to do a factory restore/data wipe from within CWM it gets stuck at the data wipe point and eventually shuts down.
I have tried mounting and unmounting emmc, eft, system, data etc and wiping clean everything but to no avail.
When i try to restore the nandroid backup onto the 1st ROM partition it hangs when installing data and I have also tried reformating the data from within the dual boot options of siyah kernel. Nothing seems to work. Have i fried the chip or something? or am i just missing a procedure. My phone works but only if i keep it on siyah kernel and boot into the 2nd ROM option where i have ICS installed..
Any help would be appreciated.

hi mate.can you please mention which roms you were using in dual boot?well yo be honest dual boot ain't a good idea.if you would ha e asked me.i would have recommented you not to do dual boot itch.anyways, coming to the issue.how did you try to flash rom while you got brick?which kernel you had?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
You were trying to change the look by flashing a kernel? I'm sorry, but that doesn't make sense. Also you really need to know which ROMs and kernel version you're on. There are ROMs compatible with siyah 4.1.5 and ROMs which are not.
Mention all (correct) details of your roms used and the kernel you're on. Maybe there's a solution there and someone will be able to point out if you've been doing something wrong. Dual boot is perfectly safe. I've been using siyah+ dual boot ever since the day I first rooted my phone and never had a problem.

Hi,
Sorry if i'm using the wrong terminology. If you hadn't guessed im pretty new to rooting etc and thought that changing the kernel also changed the theme/appearance. Anyway im currently running the following:See attachment. This only boots up on the 2nd ROM option. I cannot boot anything on the default 1st ROM and cannot even do a factory data wipe reset of the 1st ROM as CWM just hangs.

My advice to you would be this:
1. Boot into recovery.
2. FORMAT cache, system, data and internal storage.
3. Boot into Download mode.
4. Flash an "all in one" OFFICIAL 4.0.3 firmware package using Odin. Place this in the PDA section and do not touch anything else.
5. Once it's finished flashing your device should restart and you should be good to go. With a clean, stock firmware.
Let me know if you have trouble

Hi, Thanks for your help. I tried the above but when formating data it just hung and then eventually rebooted. I flashed the stock ROM anyway and now it just hangs at the Galaxy SII start screen, i even tried flashing it twice but that didn't help. I have also tried doing a factory data wipe from within the stock recovery after the flash but this still hangs and never completes. Is there a way of formating the data on the phone from within windows using a terminal emulator or something like that?. I have ROM Toolbox Pro on the device which has a terminal emulator as well if thats any good. For now i'll have to restore my nandroid backup I made this morning. mick

Hi, Sorry for the delay in answering i have been away for a couple of days. I flashed a stock rom with odin and it flashed OK and I got a green pass but when my android reboots it gets stuck half way through the install and then crashes and then never gets past the galaxy logo boot screen. I think the kernel must install OK though as after flashing the stock ROM i lost my dual boot option and the phone was bricked again. The only way i can get it working again is to enter stock recovery and install CWM zip, then install superroot & busy box and then flash siyah. This then gives me the dual boot option in CWM recovery where I can restore from nandroid and reboot into the 2nd rom. The problem only happens when i am trying to install a rom in ROM 1 slot (default) on siyah. Whatever ROM it is it never gets past the data part of the install.

having trouble flashing any roms

went to do a factory reset on my s4 using CWM but for some reason every time i try to flash ANY rom even a stock rom it will just boot up to the samsung logo and then reset it self and load up CWM.
so after messing around only ASOP roms will flash and boot fine but if its any of the stock TW roms they just fail with a Format() expects 5 args, got 4 (status 7) so right now i am tempory on a ASOP rom hoping someone could chime in on why i cant flash no stock roms

so after messing around only ASOP roms will flash and boot fine but if its any of the stock TW roms they just fail with a Format() expects 5 args, got 4 (status 7) so right now i am tempory on a ASOP rom hoping someone could chime in on why i cant flash no stock roms

What version of cwm is on your phone now? I've never heard of a ROM that changes your recovery. I'd suggest flashing Philz latest recovery from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322675
I haven't had an issue going between TW and AOSP using Philz. I realize it is based off CWM anyways but may be worth a try. I always use the option "clean to install new ROM" .
Or like stated above if you really like twrp... Go back to that and try .

Make sure to go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache as well if you use the clean to install new ROM. CWM is a little outdated so the option only wipes /data, /cache, and /system.

Hm. And flashing TW roms used to work fine? Have you tried flashing the stock kernel before flashing the rom? You could always use Odin and start fresh.
Yeah try flashing a 4.3 tw kernel with the rom

Did you use the full wipe mdk file? That should get you back to good if you were indeed on mdk

So the answer is no.
Download the full wipe mdk as you clearly have something wrong and want to wipe the device fully.
