[Q] titanium backup vs aosp backup and restore - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I'm just wondering what, if any, are the advantages of titanium backup over the bully in Android backup and restore (I'm on cm9).
Thanks.

Cm9 has a backup and restore function for all data? I'm running it and never have seen it. Titanium is a awesome though, so many options and preferences to set. As well as allowing you to auto backup to a cloud service such as Google drive. I've been using titanium for a long while and have never been able to fault it. Definitely worth buying the paid edition for extra functionality.

Use titanium, recovery backups are useless and will create major issues and cause system wide instability. I speak from experience.

use titanium with pro key. WORKS WONDERS compared to the regular titanium backup.
Titanium is at the top of my list but a recovery backup is quicker and can be more reliable to restore depending on your situation.
You have to keep in mind that if you've got any lag fixes or have changed your kernel, a recovery backup won't work properly without some preparation.
I'm not sure that even applies if you've got some lag fixes.
If you've flashed a new kernel, you have to remember to put it back before a restore as recovery doesn't save the kernel.
With Titanium you have to be careful about restoring system apps and data after you flash a new ROM. You might overwrite elements that were improved in the ROM
You may also wish to try the app MyBackup for application / data backup jobs. There's a 30 day trial in the market and the Pro version is just $5. It's got a much more user friendly user interface than Titanium even if it lacks certain features. I recommend it to those who find the the Titanium interface, etc to cluttered, scary, etc.

[Q] Backup

Hello!
Before I want to root or upgrade my phone, I want to know if there is any possibility so take backup of all applications installed, settings etc?
I have spent a whole day setting up the phone, and I dont want to do that again....
I miss something like acronis og norton ghost functionality.
Also, when I do a ROM upgrade, will I loose everything? applications and settings?
Get Titanium Backup from the Market. (I'd strongly recommend getting the pro version!)
You can backup all installed apps and associated data and then restore them all after a hard reset or ROM flash.
Titanium is a VERY good app that does a lot more than just backup and restore, so the small price for the pro version is definitely worth it. (I am in no way affiliated with Titanium Backup It's just proven invaluable to me on many occasions!)
I checked the titanium app and it seemed promising. But it only worked on rooted phones....
I was hoping not to root my phone, as Important afraid I will loose warranty

No root no backup .
jje
You need root access in order to backup app data, so there's no way round it.
Ok I see. Thanx alot for the replies. I guess I just have to figure out how to root and take it from there.

[Q] What about my games when switching ROMs?

Just a quick question, I play some of the online games such as Zoo Story, iMobsters, Smurfs Village etc. and I swear that when I backed them up using MyBackup Pro when going from stock to MIUI, one of them didn't work. So what should I be using to ensure they carry over to my new ROM successfully?
Cyanogen Rom or any to Miui will caused problem. Restore apps without data won't cause any problem from cm to Miui.
But you can still try it using titanium backup to backup both apps and data and restore it, see whether it work.

Shouldn't be a problem to restore app + data. It's system data I don't restore

Good way to back up apps and data when flashing new ROMs?

Hey guys, I am using this awesome AOKP ROM that lately has had a lot of nightlies. I have found that going back into the play store and redownloading every app I wanted is kind of a chore and I figure there has to be a good way to back up my apps. Does anyone know one?
Also when I do reinstall my apps, all the app data (game progress user logins etc) are gone. How can I back that up?
And finally if I do back up the data from the apps, will that mess with my ROM at all?
I'm sure this is all pretty beginner stuff, but I suppose Im a beginner at android
Thanks in advanced!

As priyesh103 said, you can use Titanium Backup.
Backing up and restoring app data should be safe in almost all cases but if you restore certain system settings you can mess things up if you change to another ROM or in some cases to another version of the same ROM. If you made a complete backup you can just try it. In the worst case you'd have to wipe or reflash, but since you have a backup that shouldn't be a big problem.
Titanium backup all the way! Buy pro if you have lots of apps. It also let's you backup and restore apps on any new phones you get, as long as its rooted.
Must have root app

That's not recommended using a nandriod backup to replace your data partition when switching to a different ROM. What you can do is use Titanium Backup to backup all your user apps with data, and then restore them after you've flashed a new ROM.
FYI, only backup and restore "User" apps with Titanium when switching ROM's.
+1 to what guyd said. I paid for the titanium backup app years ago and I use it every day. Don't really know what the free version doesn't have compared to the paid. I never restore system data though. Makes flashing roms and setting them up sooo much quicker.
Thank you very much will do and if there is a pro version I will buy got to support your developers!!!

Free version does not allow message or favorites backup easily. It also doesn't allow cloud backup. Great app. Well worth buying the paid version.

From what i've read, titanuim backup has had problems with restoring on the 4.4.2 platform. Has this been resolved yet? I never used it as I'm accustomed to ROM toolbox. I know that app works well.
Also not mentioned. Titanuim backup free doesn't allow you to batch restore which is a real biggie!

I only restore data, never the app itself and I have never had a problem. Never restore system.
