Fix is easy but most don't like it
Complete wipe using cwm
Format cache, system, data, sdcard
Wipe dalvik.
Flash stock GB ROM like la2 or
Flash stock ICS ROM like lpd
Using Odin, do not restore anything
Do not use custom kernels
Use for few hours, if problem persists it's hardware.

Have you tried another launcher like Go Launcher EX? If your problem is limited to the home screens it may be TouchWiz related. Otherwise a full wipe and clean install would indeed be worth a try. Albeit i do not see the point in formating sdcard as atifsh suggested.

Sdcard is internal storage by default.

Oh, so you mean the internal storage (aka internal sdcard)? But can that really cause lag on the home screen? It mainly contains media files, backups, downloads and stuff, doesn't it?
Any thing can, even in some cases, external sdcard can mess things and format of sdcard is required.
+1 @ atifsh

I've already asked in the relevant ROM thread but thought I'd try here in case anyone else has had a similar issue.
I'm currently running Westcrip ICS 9.4 and tried to update to latest version but phone freezes a few seconds after booting (have to restart/battery pull)
I've tried wiping data/cache/dalvik/fix permissions but get exactly the same problem.
I've tried flashing stock GB through odin which works ok and then flashing again but get exactly the same problem.
I've tried flashing bezkes aokp but get exactly the same problem.
Thankfully my 9.4 backup restores OK and runs without any freezes.
The only thing I think it might be is something dodgy/corrupt on my internal memory or SD card. Is it safe to wipe these? I dont want to move my backup as I've had MD5 problems when trying to restore in the past.
Does anyone have any other ideas? I've looked around on the forum/google but can't find anyone else reporting the same problem.
This is driving me mad!! Am I missing something?
No ideas?
Ill try again after clearing internal storage. Can someone recommend the best way to do this please?
I should have said that i get the freeze problems with no non rom apps installed...

Well you are using buggy beta ICS base .
As you can flash and use a stock rom then the problem is the rom you are flashing .
Possible corrupt download .
jje
Thanks for the reply. I tried downloading again but still have the same problem with resurrection and bezke so will try loading a stock ics base through odin when i get home tonight. Do you think my 9.4 resurrection base could be the problem? I read that on earlier ics roms that you should flash stock ics first?

No idea really but how can you flash a stock ICS its not released .
jje
I've been using Bezke's AOKP for 5 days now, without any problem, so the problem is definitely not in his ROM.
When you flash it, try the following:
after wiping data, cache and dalvik, go to mounts and storage and hit format system. It could do the trick maybe...

Arghh!!! Tried this and thought it had solved the problem. I've managed to install the new paradoxx rom now and even reinstall my apps and set up email account, but phone eventually freezes again. I've even started getting random freezes in CWM now! What I cant understand is why my phone is still rock solid running my westcrip 9.4 backup??
I think I might have flashed my phone to an early grave!!
That is really strange. Sorry that formatting system didn't help
Pretty much copy and paste, but I have updated it with latest info.

So this is weird... In four days, the ROM or phone has froze on me about half a dozen times now. The first time when I was setting it up by as I had just done a flash of the ROM. While setting it up, the phone decided to suddenly slow down all of a sudden to a crawl, up to the point where everything started to get washed out and freeze on me. Force restart by holding Volume Up + Power was the only solution to fix it. Just now, my sister had it connected to her computer and was transferring music over into the internal SD when suddenly, the same thing happened. Again, only solution was to force restart. Anyone have this happen to them before? Everything is completely stock except that we're on Dorimanx 5.3 kernel. Then the other times, it would either slow down and freeze in the CWM Recovery Menu, or when she is texting, playing games, etc. There aren't that many apps installed at all. Reflash of kernel doesn't solve the problem.

try doing a wipe data/factory reset as that is normally a fix to these kind of problems. Also clear cache and dalvik and that should fix the problem!

Do not use the .pit file unless you understand 100%sure about what you are doing. That's probably the easiest way to bork your device.
Edit: try flashing a different kernel. Try dark knight or fluxi. I think it would solve your issues

I can't wipe data/factory reset in CWM for some reason when I first tried to install the custom ROM. Never tried again... I wonder if it's because my I9100 is brickable.
I have cleared cache and dalvik cache but no luck. It even slowed down and froze in CWM Recovery.

I know what I'm doing. Flashed with PIT many times before on my Captivate. Haven't tried PIT on her I9100 though. I haven't broken my phone with PIT yet, even though there's quite a few PITs out there lol.
I've read of others running the same combo as me, but they're fine so I wonder what else could cause this...

Hi I have a Samsung Galaxy S2. Android v4.0.4 LQ7
I am a noob so sorry if my question is stupid.
I have rooted using method 1 in that thread and it worked great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794
Then I downloaded the app ROM Manager and downloaded CM9 RC2 since it appeared to be a stable.
I used ROM manager to download the file cm-9.0.0-RC2-galaxys2.zip
Once downloaded I saved that file in the external SD Card and used ROM Manager to reboot in recovery mode and install the ROM.
The installation progress fine and complete. I then reboot my phone.
When rebooting the phone displays the Samsung galaxy S2 screen and then switched to Cyanogen (mod) 9 screen. From there nothing happens. The phone won't boot. I tried to removed the battery which is the only way to turn the phone off and reboot in recovery and reinstall the file but the same thing happens.
Please help!
You've probably installed wrong zip for your device/variation.
Specifically which GS2 have you got?
Did you wipe date/factory reset?
Try wiping before and after flashing?
Get the CM9 nightly and flash that instead or try flashing Siyah kernel over the one that is on your device now. I personally use Goo Manager from market as you can download/update/notifications and browse compatible roms via that.

If you do a wipe/reset it will clean all your installed apps/app data and restore settings to clean install.
Its advisable to do this whenever you are flashing a different rom. Its easy to backup and then restore all your apps automatically and silently (without intervention) in a few clicks after installing new rom with titanium backup (pro).
Reboot into recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Install CM9 Nightly from internal or external card.
Install latest CM9 gapps
Reboot system.

Thanks. for that. Do you guys know of a shortcut button to turn the mobile data on or off, like the power button does on ICS?
Also I would like to raise an issue with the ROM Manager App. I cannot do a backup of my current ROM. Every time I try to do so the App freezes. It did the same when I first rooted my phone and I was on the Stock ROM I was unable to do a backup then.
Is this something that happen often with Rom manager?
Thanks

Don't use ROM Manager, due to its incompatibility with most kernels and the S2.
Here's what to do about the short cut for mobile data:
Options –> System –> Notification Drawer –> Widget Buttons –> Toggle Mobile Data
It'll be there at the top when you pull down the drawer, if it's not immediately visible just slide the icons to the side and you'll see it.

You always do backups in recovery mode, Rom Manager (if compatible kernel) simply automates teh process of rebooting into recovery and starting backup.
Depending on your rom/version you can do this via power menu anyway (reboot into recovery).
STOP USING ROM MANAGER!
It can & most likely will fuc& your fone up. If u want to learn I suggest u read all of chainfires posts, then check out the SGSII Bible in the GS2 section. Then get urself the correct tar file for the Cf root kernel specific to ur country or region. That will get u outta the ****e if this ever happens again. Read up on all things root etc. u could do with learning what Odin is too!

Thanks for that. I think I know what Odin is. Thank you so much for that post. You have opened a whole new world! I have opened the SG2 bible I wish I have done that before. I am about to do a back up now. but I have not been able to do a back up of my original stock ROM since I was trying to do it with ROM Manager and it would freeze all the time. I think it is the worse that I could have done I have changed my ROM and didn't not do a back up before. i guess I will never be able to revert back to my stock ROM. Thanks again for you precious advises they have been very helpful!
Naa m8, u can always go back to a stock, u just need to tell me your country & the modem & ROM version, mine was stock Uk 4.0.3 & once you have that you can flash it with Odin then flash the Cf root kernel. you would then be on a totally stock ICS ROM but with root & CWM recovery so you can then flash anything you like. If you give me the country & which ROM (ICS or GB) you would like I can give you the necessary files for Odin.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT flash a stock ROM & stock unrooted kernel as if u do a full wipe it will hardbrick ur fone!
Sent from My Omega powered beast, using Xparent ICS
There's an even easier way....
Go here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608071
then simply download the stock unbranded firmware for your country. it doesn't have to be your specific country but it helps as it has the csc etc that you need. Once you have downloaded it simply flash it with Odin & you will be running stock ICS 4.0.3 but with root so you can then flash CM9, but seriously I would highly recommended Omega v15. It's close to stock but sooooo much more. Im in all day if u need help

You can get modem via dev section (use search) and APN settings from your carrier or google.

My phone is on stock 4.1.1 siyah kernel, rooted, busybox, cwm recovery 6.0.1.2, have root explorer working.
I did wipe/factory reset, dalvik, fix permission, wipe batt stats, wipe cach flashing kernel/rom official and non official
and my phone keeps rebooting when the screen go's off auto or if i pres the power button.
Did you changed CPU voltage or clock settings earlier?
BTW you can remove files with ADB.
1) Boot into recovery
2) Connect USB
3) open ADB shell - 'adb shell'
4) navigate to the folder - 'cd /system/etc/'
5) Remove the files - 'rm -r init.d'
6) exit and reboot phone
Yes i did that early i try 1800 max in stweaks on siyahkernel and then the phone rebooted, dont know exactly what happend then but everything was fine after that... i also used other roms and kernels...
But thanks for your advice i will try to do this, i am new to ADB so i am going to figure that out right now.
is it possible to do that with cwm recovery on it?
That's what the problem is. I did it to my phone once. I overcolocked and undervolt.

Hi guys, I've owned this tab (p4wifi) for a few years now and for sure loads of junk has been building up in it. I've used dozens of ROMs in the past and it seems to be slowing down. Now the slowness isn't the issue, I just want to revert it back to full, pure stock as in Unrooted stock ROM from sammobile with no user data whatsoever. Exactly like the first day I got the tab, no pics videos or anything that I took.
I live in Malaysia so I'll be using this: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=5982
So now the problem is how to exactly go about doing this? I'm currently running CM10.2 with CWM installed and I want all my user apps, photos and videos gone too, like everything. I understand that i have to boot in Download Mode and use ODIN to flash that ROM image, but hat are the steps before or after that I have to take to remove all my user data? Would really appreciate it if I could have a step by step procedure.
Thanks alot guys

it is not quite necessary to totally wipe the phone..
bt to ensure a clean install it can be done...
while.... since u want to return to pure stock.... it is better to first restore your first cwm backup which u made just after rooting.....
coz flashing a kernel wont remove the custom scripts bt only disable it.....
so wat i say is... first restore ur just-after-root cwm bakup.... after that flash your kernel which u will download from sammobile. com.
and then u will have a pure stock unrooted phone like in the beginning

well before flashing the KERNEL image....
it is not quite necessary to totally wipe the phone..

OK I will try. I'm running CM10.2 a custom ROM so can I use the factory reset option in system settings? Because CWM wipe data doesn't wipe a lot of things :/

yes you can use the factory reset and it will wipe everything.... from cache to dalvik cache to data..
the system folder and some other folders will only be intact as they contain the rom related files....

Do this:
1. Wipe data/factory reset in cwm
2. Wipe system
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Wipe internal memory or sdcard or /data/media (I forgot what its called in cwm)
Then boot into download mode and Odin flash the stock ROM.
FYI, the other guy was wrong, sammobile offers ROMs and not kernels. And, HEY, I'M FROM MALAYSIA TOO!

Thanks both of you Woohoo fellow Malaysian on this legacy tab. Sweet thanks for the detailed procedure, I'm guessing step 5 is the one that wipes all photos and videos? Because normally 1-4 just wipes user apps. Will try it after having my stuff backed up How is the UI smoothness for you on this tab? Just wondering if I'm the only one who feels that mine is very sluggish.
actually, Toldo's stock rooted ICS rom and Omni Kitkat rom are both smooth.

Yup that's the one that wipes everything. Sometimes the tab feels sluggish, depending on what i use it for, like heavy multitasking and such, but overall its pretty smooth. BTW, I'm running SlimSaber 4.3 on my tab. I feel that 4.3 gives the best performance for our tab and 4.1(pershoot's cm10) is the most stable.

If you're going to revert to pure stock, just flash official firmware via ODIN. Boot into stock recovery and factory reset. It will also wipe the contents for internal sdcard.
.......
just use odin

Yeah hahaha.
How about kernel wise? Which is the best kernel out there for this tab? Would prefer a ekrnel that allows "powersave" and "performance" mode in trickster mod :3

On stock ROM? I'd recommend A1 kernel or Yoda kernel. Yoda kernel is quite outdated and doesn't contain the l2_hsic wakelock fix if you have the 3g version, but its pretty good. A1 on the other hand, is a fan favourite. Both have performance governors and if I'm not mistaken also powersave governor, but honestly I've never tried trickster mod so I can't tell you that.

Thank you sir, great help so far heh. I ended up flashing the rooted deodexed stock ROM i found in the forum but after flashing I chose to disable stock recovery flash, does that change anything? My first boot wasn't successful so I went to reflash the ROM again in CWM and it got stuck in "Opening update package". I restarted the tab and it booted up normally. Is the stock ROM interfering with the custom recovery? :3

Did you do the usual wipe before flashing? And also what version of cwm are you using? Try using this version of TWRP by kasper_h.

To answer your question, I don't think it changes anything, but saying no to stock recovery flash seems to be the right way to go. And no, stock ROM does not interfere with the custom recovery.

It's alright everything's working now Now another problem popped out I wiped my internal memory which means all my photos and everything non system related, and it did, my tab was practically empty buttt the tab doesn't register it as that ._. The storage part in settings shows that I have used up like 12GB of space even though I have wiped everything clean, I did an SD card folder analysis with ES file explorer and although it showed the same 12GB used, the folders shown do not add up to that, could it be the indexes are not updated? Because I don't see anything that could be eating up all that space

If the sdcard is empty, that means something is hogging your space somewhere in /data. What version of Android were you on before and now?
