I for one am going to make the switch..
ALOT of people currently own a gs2 so I'm curious as to how many are also making the switch.
Don't post here if its just to criticize the gs3 or the people who are switching... this thread is just for those making the switch.

Unless the exynos proc will now do all 3g/4g I'm not. I want a phone I can use internationally on 3g and on TMO on 3g/4g.
Other than that the feature set is not anything to go OMG I'M SWAPIN. Biggest deal is the possibility of better battery life with that generation. My area has mediocre cell (on signal (on ATT and TMO) so batteries don't last as long as they should even on edge.
I am going to be making the switch
Its its not quad core but also only 4.8 inches sorry too small for me I'll see what the note 2 has to offer.

Depending on the final specs and if there are any hardware changes on the device.......I could see myself making the switch on certain circumstances but right now I'm just waiting to see what the final hardware specs are before I make the decision to put up my phone on Craigslist for max dollar. I shouldn't have to pay too much of a difference for the GS3.
I'm keeping the gs2 till gs4 comes out....I bought me an Asus Tf300 instead

I bet dual core s4 snap
I'll be buying the international GS3. I'm tired of the lag I get on the T989 :\
I don't care that it will only work on EDGE; I'll switch providers if I have to. But I'm on wifi 99% of the time so I should be okay.
Yup.
If they release one in black and the battery life is better than the T989, I'd consider making the switch.
If the price is right, then I'm in.
I'm just going to wait for the sgs4 to come out. The sgs3 doesn't really have any great improvements that's worth spending a bunch of money

According to this article, the TMobile version, the SGH-T999, will more than likely come with the Snapdragon S4 krait chip. It is dual core, however, it outperforms all other processors, including the new quad core exynos. I will definitely be picking up the next galaxy, considering our phone is still selling on Ebay for ~$350.
Edit: source= http://www.anandtech.com/show/5559/...mance-preview-msm8960-adreno-225-benchmarks/2
Scroll down to see bench marks.
The S4 has equivalent structure to that of a Cortex A15. It is really the best chip out right now. I believe the One S uses it but I could be wrong.

This is what i am always wonder, how in the heck are you guys able to switch phone so fast? i will love to, but i just got into the contract no more than 7 months ago, so i have a lot to go, before i can do an upgrade.
I'll be upgrading based solely on the increased resolution. My biggest complaint about my S2 is that it has a low res. My s2 is plenty fast, and the S3 will be faster.
As to the comment of how we can switch, I use my phone more than any other device I own. Spending $1000 a year on new phones is something I deem as a priority. Besides, my family is dependent on my castoffs for their own upgrades.

I made another, here is my story.
I bought mine Oct 2nd so I was just a few days off the 30 day cut off. I went to AT&T and they said the only way I could upgrade is to return my phone today and be without a phone (or use old phone) until the 6th. I said that wasn't worth it and left. Later they called me and said they did some tweaking and will let me return and get the sky rocket on the 6th.
I can't decide if it is worth it, I will have to back up, unroot, stock rom, and then wait for root on skyrocket and wait for Zagg to make a screen protector.
All that for .3 bigger screen and a 1.5 ghz. No 4G LTE in my area.
What do you think? Is it worth it?
Personally I don't think its worth it. Even if LTE was in my area, I'd pass. I'm much happier with this screen vs. my Infuse.
Even if the exchange was an even swap, I can't say I'd do it to be perfectly honest.

If you are going to return current phone, you have to pay $30 restocking fee. The new LTE version will cost you $250 plus activation fee ($18). All in all you will have to pony up for around $100 extra for .3 inch of screen and SLOWER processor, not faster regardless of the clock speed, and LTE that you currently can't use.

If Amazon sells the skyrocket, I can buy the skyrocket for full price and Amazon will credit the account back after they receive my SG2. Free 2 day shipping with no tax.

The question is, why are they so willing to do some "tweaking" to trade out on this particular model? Why were they not selling the GS2 at local AT&T stores (here in california)? Maybe because they have an agenda to sell the skyrocket? I dont know, but it sure does sound suspicious.

It's tempting for me cause I'm in an LTE market, but hspa+ speeds are generally good enough for everything I do mobile. The bigger screen will make it a little harder in one hand (I had the bigger sprint version of the GSII for a couple weeks), I think our screen is about the perfect size for a phone
it's snapdragon.
it's the first LTE phone from AT&T, and they want the LTE speeds with that large screen to last through the day. snapdragon is a weaker processor that takes up less battery. so therefore, there you go.
my SGS2 is oc'd to 1.6ghz, and it flies through anything you throw at it. so if you have one, keep it. lol
i work there, so yeah.

There is nothing about the 1.5 GHz Snapdragon that's unannounced. Yes, right now, it hasn't been officially announced that the 1.5 GHz is a Snappy - but the evidence all points that way. There are no 1.5 GHz Exynos chips, and Samsung reserves the Exynos for flagship devices like the I9100 and Galaxy Note - we should consider ourselves lucky the I777 got one. Everything about the Skyrocket looks identical to the T989 except for the LTE radio.
So far, across the world, Galaxy S II devices have had either:
1) A 1.2 GHz Exynos
2) A 1.0 GHz Tegra2 (in foreign "niche" markets) - actually these have been rumored but I am not sure if I have ever seen one
3) A 1.5 GHz Snapdragon (in "niche" markets like T-Mobile and also apparently AT&T LTE).
The chances of it being a 1.5 GHz Exynos are slim to none. The chances of it being a 1.5 GHz OMAP4 are slightly higher - but not a single report points this way, and the T989 points away from this too. All the evidence says that 1.5 GHz dual-core A9 on a Samsung = Qualcomm APQ8060.
I agree with most people here. ASSUMING it's a snapdragon ( I don't know) the exynos runs circles around it. Look at the reviews between the tmobile sg2 and its siblings.
Touch wiz is not fully optimized for snapdragon. Something tells me samsung hasn't put to much effort on it.
LTE while awesome. Is a potential battery drainer if any experiences from phones on verizon hold true still. Honestly I love hspa+. its speeds are decent enough. Its a phone people... not a computer. Its a good balance of speed and battery consumption..
If indeed it turns out to be something other than a snapdragon then I suppose that would change the game a bit but I dont see paying 80 dollars extra when lte is only in like 5 markets. I'd hold off for two years and then get a better LTE phone when the LTE footprint will (hopefully) be mature(d)
Just my two cents..
why is every one getting so defensive? Let the phone come out. Everyone has different choices, you like gs2 good, very good. Someone else might prefer rocket. I returned mine gs2, I'll get HTC vivid and keep my eyes open for rocket in our forums. I think this was the best choice because, if anything, I'll have 30 days to get back to gs2.
And since I do business from best buy there is no restocking fee or any charge.
Coming from atrix, screen resolution and root matters to me so I've made my decision.

Give up Exynos, gain LTE. Why can't we have our cake and eat it too? I hope Samsungs next chips will support LTE. Nay, Sumsungs next chips MUST support LTE.
After seeing it pass through the FCC, I had been waiting for the Note to hit AT&T. I would have gladly returned the SGSII in favor of the Note, but the moment I read the latest news - and that AT&T is favoring LTE over exynos, I decided to give up hope on the Note.
I honestly don't think the snapdragon processor has enough power to drive that high resolution display without stuttering. That might not bother AT&T as long as they get to push LTE phones (even though LTE is nothing more than a meaningless buzzword in the vast majority of AT&T markets right now), but it bothers me. It's like taking a beautiful Porche and sticking a moped motor in it.
Even if the snapdragon is capable of pushing that display, it'll only do so by draining the battery quicker than a 14 year old boy with a copy of national geographic.

The fact that they are favoring the LTE over the Exynos, even though they dont have many areas with LTE coverage ATM really pisses me off. Ive been waiting for this device to get actual AT&T support for a while, just to find out i shoulda bought the one from overseas a long time ago? THIS SUCKS!! I already owned a Hercules, basically the same thing as the SR but without the LTE, and I had an amaze, both of which run the same internals as the AT&T "note". I am sooo disappointed right now, pffff, snapdragon, what a let down.

Could be worse - Verizon customers have had the choice of only battery-hogging fatties or underspecced cripplephones for many months.
LTE isn't going to be mature enough for primetime for at least a year, the power/weight penalties are way too high currently. Unfortunately it's starting to look like AT&T is pulling a Verizon, not giving customers who want a mature, refined, high-end phone with decent battery life many options.
Most likely, the I777 is going to be the peak of refinement in terms of contract-subsidized devices on AT&T for at least a year. Anything newer and you'll be one of AT&T's LTE beta testers.
Remember the early days of UMTS? We're in the same position now with LTE.

I don't know i was kinda shock its like the shelf life of high end phones around 6 to 7 months then wham a new version. Now I did read that the slll will have only a duel core due to the quad doesn't play well with lte. Maybe that's why a duel core. Idk. One thing I've noticed is the phones are never complete to me. The one x has the quad core great camera but then no sd card. The note great but doesn't have the s4 chip. It's like all the phones have one major features lacking just so u may have to upgrade or move on to the next one.
What about a phone that has
Quad core
Sd card
2gb of ram
Super almoled screen
Lte
Lastest os
Thin
Great camera
Great processor
The ultimate phone all the best of the recent phones. Now that would be hot.

It won't be much longer and this phone will have been out for a year. My next Note will be an international one since LTE is not appealing to me. Bring it!
"Due to its incredible success Samsung has started to work on its predecessor the Galaxy Note 2."
Who writes these things? I doubt predecessor is the word they wanted to use.
Successor must have confused them
I don't buy it, the specs just don't add up. .2" bigger is quite bigger even though it doesn't seen so, only 1.5gb of ram whb the s3 has 2? The processor? Nah its a fake
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Of course it's fake. Samsung has never stated that they intend to make another Note. It is pure conjecture.
Look what happened when they dropped the screen size half an inch with the S3. All of a sudden it is cool to have a ginormous screen. Hopefully it won't dissuade them to keep it above five inches.
The S3 is getting an SPen (called a CPen) very soon as well. Maybe the next Note will be one of the five Nexus phones dropping this year.
Who knows. Hell the one true fact of technology is you can't really keep up. There will always be the next hotness around the bend. Wow I didn't relize the note had been out so long I guess cuz Att just got it in March/April but i guess it has been out longer internationally.

First, it's either written by someone whose native tongue is not English or something... And why would the SG3 get quad core and the revised note be dual core? Just because if the lte thing? Makes no sense.
And why would they repeat the crap about over 300 dpi again as they do.

i'm thinking of getting the Galaxy s3 but i'm having a bit of trouble deciding which one. before i continue i would like to sate a couple factor :
I have att, 3gb of data
I live in New York so i have LTE coverage everywhere
i barely use data for anything other than downloading an app, browsing the web, or watching something on youtube
i'm a major gamer so thats were getting the international one with its Exynos chip v.s the us one with snapdragon s4
So a couple of questions i wanted to ask you guys was:
Does 1gb vs 2gb of ram really make a difference and improve speed, i don't multitask a lot just like 2 or 3 apps
how good is the snapdragons 4 actually?( Give your opinion, and if you ever had lag when you used it)
How good is the snapdragon s4 for gaming, ex. GTA3, Max Payne, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, N.O.V.A 3, and if the games ever felt laggy or a little glitchy?
Also they are more developers for the international version
thanks in advance
If you are not worried too much about the LTE speeds than your best bet is i9300. Exynos 4 Quad is definitely better for gaming ... I have the AT&T variant just because I wanted to have unlimited 4G plan (grandfathered unlimited 3G upgraded to unlimited 4G now).
Also, if u have ORD then i9300 is the best choice hands down. I can speak from my own experience when I chose to get i9100 over local US variants. The amount of developer support for the international models is mind boggling. You don't get that much support (as quickly) for the US variants.
So better gaming, better developer support. I would say go for i9300 ... Hope this helps.

The quad core is a bonus, as i have never seen a hint of lag or stutter on this thing. The 2gb of ram vs 1gb of ram isnt really that big of a deal to me, phones run perfectly fine on 1gb but 2gb is awesome too. This is why i chose the I9300, its different for everybody but i love this beast.
I come to these forums a lot to see what the US version has cooking and so far it looks like things are getting ready to pick up! Task and Ktoonz (sp?) are awesome devs.
If the $600 is out of your budget, then the convo is done. I mean what else do you need people to say?
Please don't take me being blunt, for rudeness.

I have the US version and I game quite a bit. I frequently play Max Payne, Shadow gun, Dead trigger and GTA3. I don't experience any lag what so ever. I couldn't make this thing lag if I wanted to. The 2Gs of RAM makes a world of difference IMO.

THANK YOU, I have been trying to see if the us version had lag, that was my main concern, looks like I'll be getting the us versoin, or get it and sell it, then from the money I make I could get the international versoin. Thanks to everyone that helped me make my decision

No problem. Trust me, your going to love it. You probably won't even want to sell it for the international version. The US version handles everything just fine. In fact, tests have shown where the S4 processor actually performed faster in some situations. Most phones can't even utilize 4 threads yet. Put simply, you get all the performance of the quad-core (and then some), plus amazing battery life. We've seen video proof of the performance. With the S4 Qualcomm has introduced a new architecture, and it's cutting edge. It's based on the same instruction set as the new ARM A15 processors, which gives it a significant advantage over it's competitors. It will do tasks faster, and more efficiently than the rest of the current generation hardware. So performance is just as good overall and battery life should be better.

Don't believe everything you hear the s4 chip is a beast. Not as good as the sammy quad but i say better than tegra. Either way a duel core phone going toe to toe with either of theses processors speak for itself. It's a notice different from last generation duel core. It handles games without a hitch battery life omg all day long . This phone isn't perfect but it's Pretty darn close. I own the evo 4g lte with the s4 chip and it runs sense4 like butter no lag get the phone enjoy it. Development isn't where the international version is because the rest of the world78% to be exact got the same phone and little usa has to have there altered to work with lte. Plus they got theres before us. The u.s galaxy s3 development will pick up fast the delays and Verizon just getting it a few days plays a roll to.

One question I have though, is what's the difference bettween att galaxy s3 and HTC one XL by att
They both are dual core
Both have snapdragon s4
1.5 ghz
And adrenno 255
So other than the fact the galaxy s3 has 2gb of ram, what's the difference?

Not to be rude but you need to research the specs yourself, someone could say one has magic faeries inside for all you know.
The One X has a super lcd2 IPS display, while the GS3 has a samoled hd+ screen.
The One X has no removable storage or battery, while the GS3 has both.
The One X has 1gb of RAM, while the GS3 (USA) has 2gb.
The One X has Sense, we have TouchWiz

Simple question, thinking about using my upgrade on the S3, currently have the rezound but im not sure i really want to do it yet as the i5 is coming out this year.
Would you?
I'm personally holding off to see what the quad-core 1080p beast that is rumored to follow the Rezound has to offer.

I would have posted this in the GS3 forum, because you might get more replies, but that's just me
I would definitely recommend upgrading to the GS3. I have a nexus which is kind of like a GS2.5 and i like it a lot more than I did my Rezound, and the GS3 is even better than my nexus.

i would get one. mostly bc i like the latest and greatest. if only i had the money
I would hold off. I don't like the build quality of samsung products. As crazy as it sounds the s3 is already getting dated.
hey ant, i have one. and a nexus. and a rezound.
Yah i had the droid x before this and i wasnt expecting the screen size to drop, should looked at one before buying it online
I love big screens, thats why im thinking about it but i need to do some more research on the new phones being rolled out soon!
thanks guys.
Rezound processor + sg3 screen size and blue color = awesomeness.

the rezound processor is an S3 1.5ghz. the galaxy s3 processor is the newer S4 1.5. why would yuo want an older processor?
Lol I know right. People see 1.5 dual and think its the same

I don't care. I love rezzy either way.
No because I already have 4g and a phone that meets my requirements. I have no idea why people are talking about quad core in this thread, I haven't had any problems running anything on my Droid X even. People are acting like they are trying to play crysis or WoW on their phones, in the end they need to remember that its a PHONE and not a COMP.
I would REALLY like to know why people have the need for a quad core phone? A few answers would be greatly appreciated. Maybe dial out faster? Pick up a call quicker? All joking aside, I'd really like to know.
After owning the Galaxy Nexus i will never buy a Samsung phone again, I paid $480 for it and gave it away for free that's how terrible it is!
Plus HTC is coming out with a beast soon so i'm holding off for that
I wouldn't upgrade to a Samsung device due to the radios. I would however consider upgrading to the new HTC phablet or whatever Nexus phone is coming out this year.

Quad cores offer greater performance and also greater battery life believe it or not I'm not trying to run crysis but hate to tell you but that thing you hold in your hand is more of a computer than a phone. We want quad core and two years after that we want 6 cores... And so on. Bill Gates once said 64mb of ram is more than we will ever need now look at us with 16gb. In other words, if we stop pushing, we will never see how great this smart phone technology can be in the future

I have a GS3. It owns the Rezound.
Battery life is about 2x better for me. Signal is very good. Much better than the Nexus. Not quite as good as the Rez, but it is worth the tradeoff.
No lag even on stock touchwiz (which actually is pretty nice).
Thinner & lighter.
Screen VERY visible outdoors.
Meh, I like the GS3 but unless my rezound broke and I had to pay for a warranty replacement I probably won't be buying one... It's not enough of an upgrade in my eyes to spend more than an extra 100 dollars on. It's def a nice phone though no doubt about it. I liked the GS2 a lot as well, and it's still a good phone.
In reality the rezound isn't really that dated yet (eh more so on paper kind of). I mean it's not a 1XL or a GS3 but it's close enough and still has higher ppi and than both, now I'm hoping I can hold out for the next GREAT phone that Verizon gets. Like the rumored HTC phablet thing or the next Nexus if its like a GS3.5ish(or better) type phone.

-10 cool points for calling the Nexus a GS 2.5. After seeing how choppy my friends one x is, not really impressed with the s4/225 combo.
If the radios didn't suck I would. But since you're sitting on an upgrade... Wait it out and see what's out there.
