Your going to need to provide more information as you are not clear about what the problem is with the data. Is it slow, does it not connect to carrier, does it provide some error, etc?

summary: i can't update/download apps from google play store when im using data(3g) but when i am connected to a wifi network everything works fine.

Hi all,
I have recently bought my Galaxy S2 and I am trying to install apps from android market. I log in to my Gmail account on PC internet and connect my S2 with PC. Then I chose the free app like Angry birds to be installed. Now on the webpage it shows below the app this message: "This app is compatible with your AirTel Samsung GT-I9100.", which means my phone is connected and compatible.
Then I clicked on the install button and a pop up appeared saying that the application will be installed [or downloaded] to your device shortly. But after that nothing happened. I waited for a long time and there is nothing on my S2. I checked the Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications, and it doesn't show anything there.
I am NOT connected to internet on my mobile, because I want to utilize my PC internet which is broadband. I have not enabled any other setting on S2 before doing this. I have only enabled the Settings -> Applications -> Unknown Sources option for convenience. Even the USB debugging is also disabled.
Can someone please let me know what I am missing? Or if there are any other additional settings that I need to do? Please help guys, I am pretty new with this android stuff...
Thanks in advance...!!!
It cannot download to your phone without it having a running internet connection I'm afraid.

So do you mean to say that I need to have my mobile internet connection ON in order to get that app downloaded and installed on my phone?
Unless you can connect to WiFi.

Yes you need internet connection on your phone also, you cannot install it via the pc's broadband connection. Do one thing download connectify and make your pc as a wifi hotspot and then connect to the hotspot and then begin downloading.

Or you could enable data connection on your device like edge or 3g.
Now that you have a smartphone you should probably get it activated.
Airtel has plans like Rs 98 for 2gb Edge.
Thanks a lot guys for the replies.

Will get back to you guys in case of any issues.
Just to update you guys that when I connected internet on my phone, the previously selected app from the android market got downloaded and installed automatically. So this is how it works. Good to know it finally.

Hahaha yeah thats how it works.
Glad! to see you sorted out.
That's my problem, Google Play can not connect "try again" and sometimes it shows me two erros: 495 y 923, and YouTube can not connect. But if i use 3G connection yes, It works!
*I already read the following things and i´m still with the same problem:
- "Reboot Mobile"
- "Clear cache and data from Google Play app and Market"
- Yes.. Gtalk works form me and i can talk with others..
- "Reinstall Google Play and Youtube apps"
In 3G connection it works, but if i change to wifi doesnt works. I can use internet with the wifi but google play and youtube dont. I've used the wifi connection since I have this phone and suddenly i have this problem.
Any ideas?

I've started having the same issue since the morning today. I've reconfigured my entire wireless network, but to no avail. The WiFi is working fine on the laptop, but when I set it up on the phone, it says "Sign in to Wifi Network" inthe notification tray and then doesn't open a login page. Only Google Apps are having issues connecting to the internet, otehr apps like facebook, 9gag and stuff are working just fine.
It isn't working on any of the mobile devices I have. Incidentally, they are all android. S3, XperiaP and Nexus7. I'm guessing this could be because of the blockage of youtube in Pakistan. since google sometimes uses those servers to authentication requests. Does anyone have any other explanations?

Has anyone been able to get to the solution of the "sign in to wifi network problem? Paranoid android 3.99.1 RC1
i have had the same problem since yesterday
i tried re-setting my mobile WiFi router many times
deleted the network and add it again but didn't work
finally i got it , i removed the SIM card and insulted it into my mobile
and turned the 3G on but it was not working so i got another SIM card
and but it in my router and its working now
so the problem was with the SIM not the router
i hope this helps you......

Insulting only works with people. Physical violence works with some electronics.
I've been seeing the same issue, with a large wireless network with multiple routers; some routers are configured in a weird way (seems to be DNS-related, but I'm not sure), and will make Android think it needs to sign in.
So no solution yet, i guess i am having same problems since morning, but play store is working fine on My Mobile Network

All you gotta do is reset your hosts file using adaway, Which actually disables ad blocking.
I'm downloading an app right now from play store.
There is still no solution

Almost everyone is facing this problem. This is due to PTA's ****ty filters for blocking youtube which they cannot manage properly.
It will come to normal eventually, when they figure out how to resolve this issue. it may take some time. Hope soon.

I have the same issue since yerstaday morning. Gives notification sign into wifi network when i click that it open webpage which is block here. According to my research that IP address is of Google and gives location of US due to which play store can be run with hotspot shield because it changes your IP and connect you to US. But I reset app prefernces and delete cache of play store then reboot my Tablet it works fine no notification error but again today in the morning same error comes. Don't know what to do to resolve it .

I am using PTCL Broadband .. All you have to do is to pick up a toothpick or needle, you can find a small hole on the back of your ptcl router ..
Put that needle in it, there is a default setting reset button in that hole .. press the needle for 4-5 seconds until the router restart ..
Wait for the router to restart properly.
Go to 192.168.1.1
Click on easy installation.
Type the username given by ptcl .. You can call ptcl customer support and get your username or you can find it on the box of the router.
Type Password: ptcl
Click on save ... You are DONE

Is it possible to disable checking for working internet connection in android?
Hi there,
I'll explain what's wrong here, I have a Samsung S3 i9300 with Android 4.3.1 (SlimBean) and everything works fine. Only when I turn on WiFi (tried several), my internet acces is limited to the google site, and some apps like Facebook and Whatsapp. But when I try to navigate to other websites, I recieve a -Not found- error.
So it seems like technically everything is ok (otherwise I also couldn't open google in my browser). Other devices connected to the same network do not have this issue. I tried to change DNS settings (e.g. 8.8.8.8), but this is not possible in 4.3.1 as far as I can see.
Any suggestions are welcome!

Does it happen on a particular WiFi network or any WiFi?
Is your WiFi hidden?
You can try making Android forget this network & again manually setting it up.
You can also check for any App that may be restricting WiFi traffic
EDIT:
You can change WiFi network settings even in 4.4.2 KitKat
Long Press your Wifi -> Modify Network -> Check 'Show Advanced Options' -> Change IP Settings to 'Static'
Now all settings incl DNS will be visible & you can change them.
I tested several networks and they're not hidden.
I use DroidWall, but uninstalling this does not have an effect unfortunately. Also forgetting and reconnecting does not help.
[EDIT]
Thanks for the tip, however this also does not give me access to the rest of the world wide web..

Did try using some software such as Wifi Connection Fixer?
Also did you try using different browsers on your phone?
I was having such an issue with ebay.in on the stock browser my i9300. But the same thing loaded perfectly with Chrome.
Clearing the Data & Cache of the stock browser helped later on.
I will try the Wifi Fixer, thanks!
I tried two different browsers without luck, and it is a problem beyond the browser imo, because the Play Store also can not download apps when connected to WiFi. I can search for apps, but when I want to download them, it gives me a -no connection, retry-..

If nothing works, I guess you might have to reflash your ROM after clearing the whole data & cache.. :crying:
IMO, CM11 M2 (Android 4.4.2) is quite good, just flashed it on my S3..
Well, I now changed the DNS settings to the google DNS server (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and rebooted the phone and this did the trick.
I don't really understand it, but I am glad I can use my phone without wiping it completely again!

Hi,
I was constantly annoyed by the poor wifi signal when I had my devices connected to the computer, so I wondered why I could not use my computer's Internet connection on the Android devices when they were already connected via a USB cable. Extensive Google searches only showed solutions that would not work at all or required the Android device to be rooted. That's when I decided to develop my own solution:
ReverseTethering NoRoot allows you to share your computer's Internet connection with your Android device via a USB cable.
Use Android apps that require Internet in places where you don't have or are not allowed to have a wireless Internet connection!
Your Android device's Internet connection is slow and unstable? You've your Android device already connected to your computer for charging, file syncing or app debugging? Why not use your computer's fast, stable Internet connection on your Android device?.
Features:
Use your computer's Internet connection on your Android device
Works with Mac, Windows and Linux
Works on all Android versions starting from 4.0
NO root needed
Easy set-up, no messing around with tons of command lines
The only way to have wired Internet on devices that do not support Ethernet
There is also a pro version with these additional features:
Connections longer than 10 minutes per 30 minutes
Get rid of the ads
Links:
Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floriandraschbacher.reversetethering.free
PRO Version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floriandraschbacher.reversetethering.pro
Please keep in mind that this is the very first version of the application. There will be issues. Please report them below and I'll give my best to fix them as soon as possible. The app was tested on Android 4.1, 4.2 and 6.0, but it should work on all devices running Android versions 4.0 and above.:fingers-crossed:
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions! Any feedback is highly appreciated !

Improved speed on older devices
Bug fixes

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback
As I've mentioned in the app description, some apps do not recognize ReverseTethering's connection because they only look for a Wifi or 3G connection. This is not an issue of ReverseTethering, but of those third-party apps. If you want to use ReverseTethering with such a third-party app, please contact the respective author of the third-party app.
As a side note: This incompatibility of some third-party app is nothing specific to ReverseTethering NoRoot, but applies to all reverse tethering solutions.
Thanks for the app.I will give it a try and send you my feedback.

Hi!
Is the server program running? Does it say it detected the device?
This app works fine on Android ICS. I am able to access full internet. I managed to download apps from google play . There is an Xposed module (HackserviceConnectivity) which fools the apps that they are connected to wifi or mobile network. Device needs to be rooted though. But I cant tether the tethered internet. I need to tether he tethered internet via WiFi tether but it is not working. unable to access the internet. Any idea?
please give me a link to download reverse tethering server application,as the program needs this running in windows.

On my Galaxy Note 8 (JB 4.1) and Galaxy S4 (JB 4.3), sharing the reverse tethered connection via wifi tethering worked. Please note I switched the device to offline mode, then connected reverse tethering, then started wifi tethering. For starting wifi tethering, I used my app FastFileTransfer (link in my signature), because the System UI does not allow enabling wifi tethering when in offline mode. Being in offline mode might have been essential, so just try if it helps.

OP, add a copy of the free app at the end of the thread. People would find that interesting. Good job!
