[Q] Some questions about BLN/Kernel - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, all, i have a question about the BLN stuff! well, as i have read, tht not all kernels support BLN? where can i find those karnels then?? i know that saiyeh kernel do? how can i inegrate it with any Kernel so ill be free to install any one?
thks and sorrrrrrrrrrrry

You can't 'integrate it to any kernel'. The kernel has to support BLN & needs to have the necessary code to make it work, whether it does or not is up to the dev who makes the kernel. Unless you're planning to code your own kernel, you won't have any control over this. And if your next question is 'how do I make my own kernel ?' you either have a lot of research to do or you need to stick to using other people's kernels (I.E if you have to ask, you probably don't have the skills to do it).
Siyah supports BLN, and I'm fairly sure there are a couple of Siyah rip-offs on here that do as well. If you want to use BLN, read (do not post to the Siyah dev thread, post to the discussion thread if you must) the Siyah dev & discussion threads.

NoLED is the best application from market for backlight notification, no Supporting kernel & rooting required for this (if i am not wrong)

Noled is NOT bln, they are completely different.
BLN uses ur hardware led keys while noled simply turns on your screen and sticks an icon there.

Kernal

How does modifying your kernal help you? Some examples please
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It's spelled "Kernel". Some examples include: Better battery life, CPU / GPU Overclocking support, New File System support, BLN (Back Light Notification), etc.
Visit the Development section / Bible thread. Read the features / change logs of the various kernels offered. They're usually enlightening and may offer additional examples.
If flashing a kernel separately from a ROM, NEVER flash a kernel for a Android version different from the ROM version that you want to pair it with. For example: Flashing a 2.1 kernel with a 2.2 ROM = Bad news.

BLN mod kernel?

Can someone tell me if the kernel mod BLN (backlightnotifications) work also on the S2?
From what I've read we need a proper modified kernel to get the BLN Mod working on the SGS2. Somebody asked for a working BLN Mod in the original SGS1 section. Haven't seen anything that we could test though...
Yes I would like to see this (and donate) also.
Hi Guys,
Is there any update on this?
Really would like this to get BLN turned on with our SG2. Keep missing calls or messages when I leave the phone in another room.
Maybe chainfire can help with this and include it in the CF-ROOT kernels. I'm not into coding and ROM/Kernel building myself, but for those who are interested in finding out how to do this, here are some sources I found. Apparently, the mod is available for Gingerbread too:
https://github.com/neldar/backlightnotification/tree/master/kernel_patches
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813389
Hopefully someone could make head or tails with it. Maybe I can pm chainfire and make a request.
Cheers
Same, a quick question though (a newbie one no doubt), would CM7 support this when it comes out?

[KERNEL][BETA] RAGEmod v1-T30

---NEW KERNEL THREAD---
This kernel is based on Hardcore's SpeedMod K1-T30 Kernel
Why another kernel?? Because I can, I like the challenge and I can probably do it as well as any other?
Features:
support for SetCPU OC (upto 1400MHz)
UV between 800mV and 1400mV
support for Boot Animation
support for BLN
SpeedMod K1-T30 initramfs + boot animation
SpeedMod K1-T30 kernel source patches
Samsung Update 2 Applied (as per K1-T30
CIFS working
Charging touch sensitivity fix.
The goal of this kernel is to take the battery savings gained from HardCORE's kernel and allow undervolting and underclocking to further improve battery life. I added Boot Animation and BLN support just because I could.
As usual, this kernel could break your hardware, so only flash if you are not concerned with bricking your device.
That said, I have flashed this kernel on my device and it still works.
Thanks also to the authors of Ninphetamine kernel - their SetCPU supporting code was the basis for the SetCPU support in this kernel, I have also used BLN code from their Git Repository, thanks to creams.
Change Log:
v1-T26 - public release based on SpeedMod K1-T26
Added BLN support
Added SetCPU support
Added UV support
Added bootanimation support
v1-T27 - updated base to SpeedMod K1-T27
v2-T27 - updated base to Samsung Update 2
Same feature set as previous versions
CIFS working
Closest match to SpeedMod K1-T27 but with Samsung Update 2 sources
Touch sensitivity fix from ninphetamine.
v1-T30 - updated base to SpeedMod K1-T30
Same feature set as previous versions
Future plans:
Keep up with SpeedMod current releases as they happen and source patches are released.
NOTE FOR ALL:
Patch files are for developers, not end users.
Source patches attached for developers - apply against Samsung Update1 sources.
Source patch for v2-T27 and newer to be applied against Samsung Update2 sources.
Gonna try this for sure , always loved Hardcore kernel, back in the Gti9000 times, but i think that OC/UV is something missing in his kernel. I'll report when i'll have tried it out ^^. Thanks !
nice.. waiting for you to update to t26..then will give it a go

Typical Victorian!!! Oblivious to the rest of the world.
Good to see many Kernel developers coming on board
May be its time to disclose the sources and GPL as other KERNEL threads being locked for want of it.
Other developers whose initial thoughts/ideas was reused will benifit everyone if what you have achieved over and above will make the original Kernel even more robust

I fully intend on posting a patch file, just not at a computer where I have access to my sources!
First - thanks for this project!
Second - I tried your kernel and I have had some problems with haptic feedback on my phone, it doesn´t work.
Edit: I´m on Darky base XXKH3..

Thanks for that, I didn't even notice that Haptic feedback wasn't working!
Great work !!
Just tried it and No problem so far.
Wait for your next update, based on Hardcore's SpeedMod T26
cheers
Works great for me, too!
Just as already mentioned above haptic feedback isn't working, but I don't use that anyway.
I guess this kernel is in the wrong section. Although I do admit that this requires far more skills winzipping a rom together, this is basically a matchup of ninphetamine and speedmod, and therefore has nothing to do with original rom development.
Well, it's not a cut and paste coding job if that's what you're implying, I studied the required code from Niphetamine and implemented it (but reduced speed limits and subsequently speed steps) in the source for SpeedMod.
IMPORTANT: all vibration not working in first beta. Will fix and repost. Sorry, but it is a beta!

If you can please mod the T26 to add these futures: Bootanimation,BLN, OC and UV. Very ngood to see more and more kernel options available. Thanks for your work man

Can't code for toffee, wondering how difficult it is to alter said limits/steps and put them in another source?
Genuinely curious - doesn't sound tough, I stand to be corrected and/or educated.

I would not say it was difficult, but I have been coding for 10+ years in many languages.

BLN Back Light Notification - How?

I am using siyhal latest kernal and simple and clean rom 2.4.3. How can I get BLN working on my phone? I dont mind if it involves a paid app but I do want to stick with the current rom I have. If I need to flash a new kernal that's fine though. Anyone know exactly what to do to get BLN working on my current rom?
it depends on kernel just find one which has BLN and search android market for BLN app (free&paid) you should be good to go
Do you know one that works with simple and clean 2.4.3?
noob cant you just read the BLN thread or search? https://market.android.com/details?...wsMSwxLDEsIm5lbGRhci5ibG4uY29udHJvbC5mcmVlIl0.

[Q] BLN alternative without changing kernel

Hi,
I was wondering if there was any MOD or app that can give the touch keys notification, as in use the touchkeys in place of LED for miss call alerts and all?
I searched the forum got BLN but we need BLN compatibile kernel which i dont wanna flash (wanna use the rooted kernel that i currently have) and bLED for note http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389394 any other alternatives?

No. Not with the touch keys. Your only option without a custom kernel is NoLED. If you want to use the touchkeys, right now, you must use a kernel that supports it... which means a custom kernel, as the stock kernel from Samsung does NOT currently support it.
