I think I should change the thread around. If your X10 has absolute no screen protector on (meaning that you removed the stock one), do you have any scratches on your phone?
The reason is theres all these scratch tests on youtube which proves glass screens to be pretty scratch resistive.

So according to these tests, I don't see how I would scratch my screen other than dropping it. But if I really dropped it, I doubt a screen protector would do any good.
I took mine off a month ago and simply never got around to replacing it, not even a mark on it since, I prefer it off.
My experience with silicon covers and others is that they end up damaging the more than they protect it, dust gets caught under them and acts like sandpaper.

I have two on, and after a few incidents I'm so glad I do. Some one said this before, "the screen is scratch resistant, not scratch proof", so remove it at your own peril.

Using a plastic film over the glass panel is like putting a hideous gown on a Ferrari. I used my Galaxy S without any protection for a month, and it was fine. Just don't let harsh objects or sand rub agqinst the screen.

I had a silicon body protector and a cheap screen protector on my X10, then I finally bought an InvisibleShield (full body) and love it.
In my case though, the silicon protector I had was constantly pressing the camera button, which would disable my face buttons, making me think my phone was suffering a bunch of random glitches. Put up with that for a couple of weeks before I discovered others online having the same issue due to their own covers.
I work outdoors and tend to be pretty hard on my phones, so I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to let my X10 run around "nude".
Hands down hell yes!! I take very good care with all my phones and I think screen protectors are a must especially for smartphones. I don't think I can stand having my phone scratched even just a tiny bit lol. I'm not a big fan of cases though cuz...I think people should just avoid dropping them in the first place, but there's always a worse comes to worse scenario huh? anyway, I was playing with my friends iPhone today and it had an anti-glare matte screen protector that is absolutely amazing. It has a nice texture to it too that makes your swiping and scrolling a more... pleasurable experience. I believe there's one for the X10 as well, I'm gonna go check that out =)
I too, use double protectors. And, the lint free fiber cloth to clean the screen. I am a clean freak, per say.
Its a must for me, sometimes I forget and put it in the same pocket with my keys, just imagine the scratches out could get.

If they used a hard glass you should only get hairline scratches at worst, which for some is ok to live with. Though you will definitely still get scratches on it, unless they used sapphire crystal like on expensive watches which is practically only scratchable by diamond
Well, I took off the pre-applied protector (not the obvious one showing you how to unlock your phone) about 3months ago and I haven't had any problems with scratches. I even proved a point to my brother by trying to scratch the screen with a coin. Still no scratches. Obviously, if you manage to damage your screen with a coin, it is not my fault!
Don't go without a screen protector. My screen is mashed now.

I accidently removed the pre-installed screen protector after trying to add another cheap screen protector over the top. but sharpishly replaced it the following day with a Martin fields screen protector best £10 i spent and actually feels nicer than the screen itself to scroll with and leaves less marks. i couldn't go without one risking scratching the screen. thats some expensive kit to just scratch and ruin.

I have removed the preinstalled screen protector and a have a couple very small hairline scratches from random pocket contact(possibly keys). The X10 screen is by no means scratch proof or very resistant however i noticed a great improvement in the touch sensitivaty without the screen protector.
So my phone fell out of my pocket, screen directly landed on a rock on the ground. There was a nice scrape right in the dead center of the screen.
I found a product called 3M "Perfect-It III Trizact Machine Glaze", or otherwise known as "3M 06070". It is an aluminum silicate based polishing compound for removing swirlies from extremely high-gloss automotive finishes. The stuff is approximately $65 for a quart size from NAPA auto parts. For those who aren't aware, Gorilla Glass itself is an alkali-aluminosilicate, so this particular polishing compound is chemically compatible with the material the screen is made out of.
**Apparently Rezound is NOT Gorilla Glass (confirmed by Corning & HTC) but must have a very similar composition**
It works absolutely beautifully. I started by applying it with a polishing cloth and rubbing by hand, but I switched over to a polishing cloth Dremel tip in my cordless drill at low speed. Approximately 45 seconds worth of polishing the screen with the drill and scrape is hardly noticeable now. With a little more careful work, I believe it will be completely gone!
Unfortunately its expensive. $65/quart is really not that bad though, when you consider that most polishing compounds that are sold specifically for glass screen repair cost as much as $30 for 8 ounces, and in my experience are less effective than 3M 06070.
I hope this helps anybody with a damaged glass on the screen. Best bet is to just get a screen protector. Not having one is a potentially expensive mistake..
**NOTE**
While this does work on the Rezound, I would NOT attempt this on any other glass screen unless you can verify that it is real Gorilla Glass or some other aluminosilicate glass.

Why are you posting this in the Rezound forum? I was under the impression that the Rezound does not have a Gorilla Glass screen. Is the Rezound screen also an aluminum silicate compound that just isn't the Gorilla Glass brand?

As I understood it, HTC only uses gorilla glass on recent phones. If it isn't the case... then I apparently have no idea what glass is on the Rezound but it must be similar chemically because this works. I tried this on two other screens as well: Asus Transformer (which definitely IS gorilla glass) and it worked beautifully, but on an old iPod Classic from 2008 (not gorilla glass) it made the screen all hazy.
So, I guess if the Rezound doesn't use Gorilla Glass, this still works quite well, but for a reason I don't know (because it definitely does not work on other types of non-gorilla glass)
OP Corrected. The Rezound IS NOT GORILLA GLASS. Apparently its similar enough that the process still works.
Do you have pictures before/after? I would be interested in perhaps doing this. I've had my phone naked since Day 1 and I've managed to get a few annoying scratches here and there.
Funny thing is, I treat it no different than my EVO 4G (gorilla glass) and over 2 years I've never had 1 scratch in the EVO even when dropping it. I always keep it in a pocket free from any coins, keys or anything else and never place the phone face down on tables. I guess the Rezound just has a significantly less durable screen.
No I didn't take pics at the time honestly, and now that Rezound is gone cause it was warrantied for another after a hardware failure...
I did notice that the glass on the rezound is not smooth... It has some warping on the top surface that you can see when light reflects off it....the area I had used the rubbing compound on became flatter and smoother, and thus was also slightly visible in the center of my screen when a bright light reflected off the surface as mentioned before.. however this was the only situation in which it was noticeable. When actually using the phone, it was impossible to notice - you had to actually look specifically for it.
Anyway, I agree the glass on this screen is much lower quality than real Gorilla Glass. I honestly can't believe HTC would cheap out on a part as important as the screen glass, but they did it. The link I posted has an identical glass to the original one, and I went ahead and purchased one in anticipation of ruining my screen again when I inevitably drop my phone or accidentally put it in the same pocket with my keys or some pocket change and scratch it up again.
However I would note that while the polish compound worked, I would only use it on light surface scratches now, and not the deeper scratches like the one I initially repaired when I started this thread. This is because of the not smooth top surface like I already mentioned. If the scratch is deep, enough polishing will fix it, but will leave an area that you will be able to see when light reflects off the glass due to the glass not being smooth initially.

Also I use one so I don't fret about my glass being dirty or when a girl with rings on is playing with it, I will always know I have a perfect glass behind the screen protector. Sadly my screen underneath has funky **** going on like light bleed and a discolored spot

I have a very tiny dot on the border of the glass which I don't like much, just in case.
But the problem is how to apply a screen protector!! on my HD2 with its 4.3" display I had too much difficulty to put a screen protector without leaving dust underneath it, on a 10" display it is impossible....
I don't use a screen protector and my screen is perfect.
Tough i always keep it docked, so i guess it helps a lot

Biggest tip I can give is to apply the screen protector in the bathroom after running a hot shower to get the steam in the room to make the dust die down. Also, the bit of added moisture in the air helps to let you slide the screen protector around a bit before letting it become settled.

I use clear tape to get dirt out from underneath. But yes bathroom helps although I don't make it steamy. The biggest problem I ran into was aligning the whole thing. One corner would always be off just a tad. I ended up trimming it a bit and I can't even tell.

I use a screen protector on my TF101 mainly because it reduces glare and the fingerprints come off easier and it feels smoother that the regular gorilla glass
My tf101 was a best buy display model. It didn't have a screen protector then and it doesn't have one now. I sell saltwater livestock for a living and I'm a mechanic on the side, so it frequently comes in contact with dirt, grease, and saltwater. Not a scratch on the screen. I use a targus case to protect the screen when its not in use.
Regarding putting a screen protector on. Its just like window tint fellas. Clean screen as best you can. Mix some hand soap and tap water in a spray bottle. Spray screen protector and device and apply screen protector. Now spray front side of screen protector. Use a credit card or rubber squeegee to squeegee the water out from under the protector. As the water comes out it will drag the dust with it. Keep a towel on hand to dry the device as the water runs out. You might see a little water left under the protector after squeegeeing but it will dry completely over the next few days so don't worry about it.

its just too bad that SGP has no longevity... and by that I mean I can still get a martian fields and skinomi products for my old Touch Pro 2 but cant get a screen protector for either OR my TF101 through SGP/Steinheil...
When it comes to screen protectors for me its SGP/Steinheil then Martian Fields (then pretty much anyone else), but like I said, 8-12 Months later they drop it completely... so unless you stock up on them, be prepared to be screwed to find a different brand if you have an issue (I had my nephew destroy one of mine... I couldnt get my finger under the side but 2min with him and me not looking and it was off and bent in half )
My .02 anyway..

And...you'd be wrong. All those things he did most likely wouldn't scratch regular glass. For the most part keys and coins aren't hard enough. What will scratch glass, gorilla or not, is sand. Sand and grit is everythere. If your hands are dirty its there. It there's lint in your pockets its there. That's the enemy of screens.

Had the transformer since it was first released. After a few months of ownership i tried the SGP ultra fine matte protector as the insane glare was starting to bother me. Had that on for a few months during which the screen nor the protector took any damage as i keep it docked when its not in use. Took it off 3 months ago and since then i've gotten one hairline scratch thats about a cm long, not noticeable unless you knew where it was.
I would say if you keep the thing docked and take care when cleaning the screen its not necessary to have a screen protector. However if you don't use a dock and the tablet is constantly exposed to any number of things that can scratch it, or you're not in the habit of taking good care of your gadgets then a screen protector might not be a bad idea.
Every time i see one of those glass scratch demos i facepalm as i've had quite a few devices that were supposed to be "scratch proof" get scratched by the most mundane things. Its all about angle, material, and force. I can slice a screen and not get a scratch but angle it a bit and give it more pressure and I bet i can get these screens to scratch pretty easily.
Scratch resistance is awesome in the lab, but in the real world there are just too many variables to be absolutely sure.

Got some ugly scratches when I decided to use the flip cover case. Some sand or dirt got in between the glass and the leather cover. My heart is still broken because of it.

I've used ZAGG a few times, once on my zune, once on my evo and again on my evo LTE. The original ZAGG product is one of those soft wet apply films that are a bit grippy compared to a hard plastic film protector. I hated it for my zune and i hated it for my evo because of the grippiness as well as the slight orange peel effect. Over time the zune's wore down enough so that it was smooth and had no orange peel, but that took about a year and only in the spots you swipe around to change tracks and volume. Same thing happened with my evo.
On the Evo LTE I was tempted to try zagg HD, which actually was much better than the original film in that it was a lot more clear and had less grip, but alas it was still a soft wet apply film and i just couldn't get used to it.
If you like the grippy texture then the zagg and similiar soft films last longer than the hard plastics. It seems like a love it or hate it situation for a lot of people, myself included.
I will always go with the hard plastic dry install as those are in my opinion easier to apply because you can hover over the screen and slowly lower it as opposed to sliding it around on liquid and then have to squeegee it all out later. Even if i have to replace it once every few months as opposed to once a year for the zagg, i will still stick with the hard plastics.

I had about an inch long scratch that was very noticeable from my class ring, and i had a ghost armor screen put on and i can barely tell its there anymore.

I've found that overall the wet application screen protectors seem to work much better for the purpose of hiding imperfections than the dry application protectors. I personally use Zagg and install a lot of them for friends and family. They tend to make the scratches or swirl marks either not show at all or barely noticeable. I think part of it has to do with the light not reflecting off of the scratch like when it's exposed. I've only done the regular invisishield and clear screen protectors, never tried a matte finish anti glare screen protector and looked once it was dry to check for blemishes or imperfections that were visible before applying the screen protector.

i used to use zagg's but didn't care for the feel. ended up having to replace one twice when i had the thunderbolt. the other issue is depending on what case you use, it will cause the protector to peel up a bit on the edges.
i found the ghost armor screen protectors have a better feel & don't peel up as easily.
I use Skinobi.
Zero problems, zero complaints, and all of the minor scratches from my daughter are "gone" so to speak.

Fills small scratches, and not the same 'orange peel' effect as Zagg. It's also less tacky than other wet app protectors I've used. One key when installing is not to scrape to hard with the squeegee. This results in a smoother finish.
realook. feels like glass, and covers the entire glass surface, edge to edge. if you put it on properly without dust you can't tell it's there. everyone is shocked when i tell them there's a screen protector on there.

While I agree with your assessment of the Realook protector, I'm not sure that it would be a preferred application for an already scratched screen seeing as it's hard coated and "dry" application.
The screen-side of the Realook protector does have a somewhat softer adhesive, so it may work to help hide minor surface scratches.
Anyone with experience using these types of hard coated protectors over previously scratched/damaged glass?

I scratched my screen the day I got it, guess I wasn't safe enough and coming from two phones that had gorilla glass I never thought about it. Anyways I have a Realook Screen protector and I love it. Can't tell its there, feel's like glass, and resist scratches etc great. About your question though, I can still see my scratch clear as day It might be a little less noticeable but as soon as light hits the screen it shows its ugly face.
there's got to be a way to buff little scratches out before putting on a protector.

This one is not so little. I'm going to blame it on the cat.
But yeah I've said the same thing, There's got to be a way to minimize it at least.
The smartest idea I've read is to use something called "jewelers rouge" to buff it out. I'm still contemplating it.
And then if it doesn't work I'm going to smash the phone so I can get a new one cuz I have insurance. lol
I'm sooo damn careful with my phones it's sad and then this happens. Grrr.
Everybody has all these wonderful ideas but nobody ever shows pictures of how it turned out. lol

That would probably explain the lack of pictures. Damnit. There has got to be something. Every time I look at my phone I get pissed.

Are you familiar a little with buffing agents and polishes and things on metal and glass or jewelry? I was just wondering if you've used some before.
I'm thinking that with the right equipment it could work, I'm going to do some research and see what I find out, but at best it would be a gamble however we could use some old phones to practice and experiment on.
Now that I'm over the rush from shorting the main board I'm losing the one percenter BAMF feeling since so many people are doing it, so taking a "cutting and abrasive" solution to a crystral clear smooth glass sounds like fun

I like your thinking. Let me know what you find out. I don't have any junk phones to be practicing on. I do have a Dremel, and was wondering if using the polishing buff wheel with something would work. I did find one good tutorial...but he did the WHOLE phone. And it was really scratched. Mines just a 1/2 inch scratch but it's right on the top right corner where I always look at the time.
BRAND NEW PHONE. NONE of my other phones or tablets have ever been scratched. SOOO irritating.

the post in quotes was posted on our forum a while back, it explains how to get rid of scratches on the rezound screen since our screens are the same composition as gorilla glass, just not actual corning gorilla glass.
They are made of aluminosilicate. Hence why this works.

I have read that and actually was going to see if a friend of mine who does car body work had some of this laying around. However I see the comments on the dulling of the oleophobic coating? I think having a dull phone would be worse than having the scratch. But the original OP didn't mention that issue at all. Any thoughts?

I let the Verizon salesman get me to buy their overpriced protectors (3 for $15...) I really don't like it. It's as wide as the screen, but long enough to cover the Verizon logo on top, and the softkeys on the bottom. It has cut outs for the camera and the light sensor.
What I don't like, is that despite the best efforts of the Verizon salesman (and he did try his hardest, there isn't a spec of dust under the cover) the edges don't stick. This is because the phone's glass curves to the edge. This leaves a tiny bit of the protector that isn't stuck down. Not only does this look bad, but it's also going to attract dust and pocket lint to get in there.
Furthermore, the screen protector also detracts from the aesthetics of the phone, it shows finger prints much more than the gorilla glass 2 does, and it adds a very slight color tint.
I think I'm going to remove it and just go without.
If you like Zagg then xtremeguard already has the DNA protectors available. Current sale means they are only 5 bucks a pop. I have used them before and was very pleased.
That is strange I got the Verizon screen protectors and don't have the issue ..however mine isn't edge to edge .. did he give you some type of aftermarket or does it have the droid stamp on it ..?

The Verizon protectors not covering the entire screen (not edge to edge, only the part that's illuminated) is a deal breaker for me. I'll just keep shopping around.
Also, I have nothing against Zagg. I've used Zagg on two devices and they held up great without any of the (noticeable) orange-peeling effect I've read about. My only big complaint with them is the outrageous price.

Are screen protectors even necessary? I owned my DROID X for 2 yrs without a screen protector and it looked as good as the day I bought it. That only had Gorilla Glass 1, it looks like Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be thinner is all, and I assume the same strength.
I am not for one going to put one on. Besides I love how silky smooth the screen is, and despise others with their sticky rough screen protectors.

Because of the curved edges the display has, I doubt there will be ones that will cover the whole thing, unless they come curved... I don't use screen protectors, but for those that do, that's most likely all you will get.
The more I use the phone, the more I'm thinking about just skipping the screen protector this time around. It seems pretty substantial on its own and the great, smooth feel is something I wouldn't want to lose (along with the clarity of the awesome screen, too).

Like I said above, I'm currently not using a protector and I have been shoving it in/pulling it out of my pockets and even dropped it on a wood floor (screen down) and no nicks or scratches...so far.

I just can't use screen protectors no matter what. Some of them have a haze foggy look to them, others feel a tad sticky, and sometimes I'll have the tiniest dust particle under the glass or just a small bubble around one of the edges. <<<---- Each, and everyone of these drive me nuts! Also the touch never feels the same, or as smooth. I don't know about most of you, but I'm very anal about my phones, and never had any glass damage, or scratches for that matter.
My final word.... GO NAKED!!!!!!

I work in construction sites a lot. And I use my flash light app a lot. I will sometimes lay my phone screen down above the ceiling. There is always metal shavings and chunks of cement up there and I do not have the smallest hint of a scratch on my screen. I have also dropped it on concrete and asphalt, still nothing.
I honestly think it is a sales gimmick.

I have a Gnex right now... went naked with that and it was a mistake. I have 2 or 3 small hairline scratches and I take pretty decent care of my phone. I dislike screen protectors but I dislike scratches even more.
i've had an old LG Xenon (text phone) i had a cheap case on it which i ended up destroying after repeated drops on concrete, I've even cracked the screen a little on the side with the case and screen protector on, but after all of that i went naked anticipating an upgrade, but i've dropped it off a 2nd story porch straight down onto concrete with screen face down and not even a scratch. I think that the screen itself will survive alot of impacts, it's the rest of the body (as well as the corner of the screen) that can't take the damage.
I'm going no screen protector, but will put a case on it once the one i want comes out. I dont believe it makes enough of a difference to counter the cons of it.
