I`m running MiniCM7 2.1.1 with unlocked bootloader and nAn`s kernel installed. but whem I`m trying to mount a second partition for LINK2SD, programme can not see the second partition. It`s saying "Mount script cannot be created. mount:mounting /dev/blocks/vold/179:2 on /data/sdext2 failed: No such device" i made an ext3 partition and choose it in Link2SD app, but it`s still not working any solutions fot this?
As I can see a lot of people have this problem with another phones but nobody except me with our lovely x10 Mini??
I found that it's better to use 2 fat32 partitions with Link2SD
Sent from my U20i using xda premium
Thanks for tip will try it now
edit:still not working this time "Device or resource busy"
edit 2: after restart i need to make a script, but after making a script and restarting message with creating script shows again and again everything was fine before updating MiniCM7 2.0.7>2.1.1
anyone any ideas?? i really need 2nd partiton and be able to move applications there
I *think* it could be because gingerbread roms have native app2sd support which could conflict with link2sd as both look for 2nd partition?
Sent from my U20i using xda premium
but on older version of the CM7 this feature was working. i think it`s not because of this
why r u trying to use link2sd when gingerbread roms actually have builtin app2sd?

because if I will use native app2sd and mount SD Card to PC or my home audio via USB every application that is moved to SD will stop work. so I want to move them to 2nd partition and then I will not have this problem. but I can`t mount 2nd partition
if you just want to move app to sdcard then you should try my step.
i'm using Paul's Mini CM7Pro which already including native app2sd. So all i have to do is making all three partitions (fat32 5,65 GB--ext2 1,4 GB--the rest for linux swap). Now if you install any apps, they won't taking internal storage as much as before.
sorry if i have bad english

Iva also found that multi-mount sd lite does the trick, you dont have to unmount the card from andorid in order to use it (fat32 disk) and so you can access and use the disk as usual from your pc and from you phone at the same time. It for free on the market and is much quicker than mounting using the system tray app!!

Ok, I am on vo-1's CM7.2, this also happened with ICS2/Final.
SD-EXT worked great, I linked my data with link2sd and after installing some apps the partition is empy. Same thing happened when I used s2e in the past. I look at the sd-ext folder and there's nothing there. With link2sd when i try to create link for new installed apps it says that partition is read only. I checked permissions, everything was ok. Formating the sd-ext solved the problem but this is not a solution as all apps there can vanish at any time.
I checked that with 2 different sd cards, they are not the problem. I create the mount script with link2sd as ext3.
Can anyone help me on this one? I am tired of facing this again. Am I doing something wrong?
Something else when a card is partitioned through CWM 5, does this create a script for the card? Is link2sd causing a problem when it mounts the sd with ext3? HEEEEEEEELP!!!!
Delete all partitions of your SD Card and Repartition it. It woks for me a 2 weeks ago with same problem.

a dev's help would be great here. Either the card is not formatted properly from within CWM, or this is CM7 issue or... I really don't know. It's things like this that make me tired and wanna go back to stock rom where simple things work.
Honestly, can someone provide with a solution cause as I read in other phones forums this thing with CM7 is also there!
I decided to partition sd with this http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm
Great tool but a bit tricky to use
So I succesfully created one fat32 primary partition and one EXT3 primary partition. Maybe I'll test it again with CM7.2 tonight and link2sd to see what happens.

I'm having the problem when partitioning through CWM so I don't think that will help you. Also Know that you said that you had partitioned with mini tool I don't think that easeus will also do it for me....
Still no response from a dev... too sad!
You can backup your sd ext via Linux OS or just VMWare and a Ubuntu vm. Last time I have made a backup and formated the sd ext with mini tool and it start working again. But now I don´t want to format but find a new/better solution. Somewhere I´ve read the read only problem is caused by canceling the sd check and you have just to run it through...
Since this problem is happening with various roms,it isn't a problem with the rom.
Try converting ext3 to ext4,this is not guaranteed to work but try it
[UPDATE]Weird problem with sd-ext --> PROBLEM SOLVED!?!
OK...PROBLEM SOLVED!!! (At least for me) So here's the story...
1. I used this http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm to partition sd. One primary fat32 and one ext3 1024MB partition. So I was sure sd was formated and partioned correctly (be ware, this program is a bit tricky but I am not gonna guide you through this - tricky at first but not difficult). Just make sure that the cluster size for fat32 should be 32KB and for EXT3 4KB. You should have something like this http://imageshack.us/f/810/65663741.jpg/ Partition sizes depend on your sd size and how much space you want to have on sd-ext. Just showing this to see what the outcome of the process must be.
2. Then placed the card on phone, started in recovery and then did a full wipe. As you know, when you wipe data/factory reset, sd-ext is also formated. I wasn't sure though what file system does CWM use to format sd-ext, that's why I did leave the sd on the phone.
3. So while in recovery, I pulled the card out, checked the card with Easeus and found that the sd-ext partition was not formated with a known file system, it said partition unkown!!!!!!! So I formated sd-ext with Easeus as an EXT3 again and put back in phone which was still in recovery. Then started to flashing things.
So far, everything is working great with link2sd (mounted sd-ext with ext3 when app first started - then reboot). I tested the hell out of it, created links for apps, then remove links, move apps to phone and opposite, lots of reboots and shutdowns to check if the sd-ext will stop working....After 180 apps phone works great, sd-ext is still there.
BOTTOM LINE
I think CWM has a problem when partitioning sd/formating sd-ext. Bottom line is when doing a full wipe, don't have the sd on the phone. Format and partition it with Easeus (or one of your choice) or delete files/folders you don't want with that. Remember, both FAT32 AND EXT3 should be PRIMARY!!!
Let say i already flash rom...then i wan to create partition on my sd...do i need to flash rom again after i complete partitioning my sd? Now im running cynoace what sd ext i need to create 3 or 4? Any one can help me?

First you have to flash rom and after this let the Ace in CWM and format the sd via mini tool and insert it again. Then just reboot and enjoy

This guide is bullet proof. It will not damage your phone in any way or make it run any risks as long as you follow step by step.
What you'll need:
Any Android phone with CWM5 installed
For S2E - A CyanogenMod rom running on your phone. (Doesn't matter if a custom rom based on CM7 or CM7 itself. If S2E doesn't work, contact your rom's developer.)
Step by Step Guide
This part of the guide can be used simply to just make a partition on your SD. You don't have to use S2E which is completely optional. You can use any other app that fits your needs.
Backup your SD card data to PC before start partitioning.
Power on your phone
Hold the Home and Power button
Use volume down button to go down to ‘advanced’.
Then press home button
Select ‘Partition SD Card’.
Select the ext size that you want (128M, 256M, 512M, 1024M, 2048M or 4096M). (I use 256MB)
Select 0M as the Swap Size.
Copy back your data to SD card.
That’s all
Next;
For S2E
Go to CM settings and check 'Application moving'
Install S2E
Check the'Applications' box
Check the 'Dalvic Cache' box
Reboot your phone
For INT2EXT+ (For CM10.1 check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37939052&postcount=1121)
Download from the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
Place it on the root of the SD
Make sure you delete ANY A2SD you have in your init.d folder.
Boot up CWM5
Mount system and data
Look for it and flash it (In "Install zip from SD")
Format SD EXT (In mounts and storage)
Reboot your phone
For Amarullz
Download the file attached to the first post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310309
Delete any A2SD scripts you might already have on your phone in the init.d folder
Extract the zip and put the script in the init.d folder
Change permissions to rw-r-r or to rwxrwxrwx if the first one doesn't work for you.
Reboot
I DO NOT USE LINK2SD OR RECOMMEND IT EITHER SO DON'T ASK.
When you reboot, it will take some time because of the Dalvic cache being moved to the SD card. When you install something, it will be installed automatically in the SD card, resulting in a completely empty internal storage.
NOTE FOR S2E: Some widgets or applications that have widgets, don't work while installed in the SD card. Those must be moved to the internal storage. The same thing applies to any themes you're using, launcher, camera apps, or anything else you believe should be installed internally.
NOTE 2: Please also keep in mind that when you reboot your phone (or turn it on) anything installed in the SD won't work until the phone is done scanning the SD card and confirms the item is installed.
NOTE 3: To delete the partition, you'll have to format the whole SD card. For that you have to use the Android Settings>Storage>Format SD. Any other way and the partition WILL NOT be erased. Make sure you back up before doing this.
S2E and AMARULLZ work with CM BASED ROMS ONLY but INT2EXT is UNIVERSAL.
You can try DarkTremor's script which is the same thing basically but I don't really know how to set it up so you'll have to find your own guide. And Links2SD doesn't free up that much memory but at least its something.
Please read this post carefully before asking any questions. I will ignore EVERY QUESTION who's answer is on this post.
Thanks to DavySML125 for the CM10.1 tip.
Fun fact: I use my own guide every time I flash a new rom

Depends on how much memory you think you'll consume. I'd still say go for 1GB. I have 100+ apps installed and I haven't even used half that GB. I'm using a 8GB class 4 or 6 (I forgot) and I'm thinking of lowering it to 500MB.
Does that with cyanogen and not on stock rom.

No, its possible, you would need to write a script which automounts the ext4 partition at boot as vold won't do that and fixes permissions, as you would get lots of fcs without.

i think he talks about formatting the whole sdcard with ext4 and mount that partition as sdcard for performance purposes. Correct me if i'm wrong, but thats how i understood that post. I actually tried the same a few months ago, there really seems to be increased perfomance of the sdcard and using fat32 on a linux devices doesn't make too much sense for me anyways.

yes thats my question...
I always try and use ext4 in my sd cards. Performance seems to be better. The only reason I ever use FAT32 is so that I can view content in Windows.
No sir. U have to use a partitioning tool to format your SD vard. I am a noob. Learned this technique in xda. It's called a "minitool partition wizard home edition". U can create different number of formats all primary though. I used ext4 for a long time. But now I use ext2. The computer only recognises the first primary partition. So the ext2/4 will not be recognised by the pc and with the help of link2sd or data2sd U'll be able to use it as your internal memory if your phone memory is really tiny. It's related to performance but first its related to expanding your internal memory.

I know there are a LOT of guides for this and I was looking them but is taking me a hard time to understand what should I really do. I recently installed CyanogenMod 7.2 on my Live with Walkman. I have a 32 GB sd. The thing is I've been always used this app (Link2SD) WITHOUT my SD partitioned. The only thing I do is when an app is installed on phone (internal memory) I just move it with this app and that's it. I don't link it or anything cause I haven't partitioned my SD. But im curious about this, is it really necessary to make a 2nd partition for this? If it is possible, how can I do it? I have already read a LOT of guides but I want an easy way, I read somewhere it is even possible to make the partition via CWM, is that true? Also, I don't have a SD reader or anything, (I have a macbook) but I have Windows 7 installed in a virtual machine (Parallels).
So is there a way to do it that doesn't requiere a memory card reader? Please help

2nd partition is very necessary for Link2SD....bear in mind if you use the native app2SD (moving apps using Link2SD) it only move the apps(apk)...if you have 2nd partition and use Link2SD to link, then you can move not just the apps(apk), you can also move the data, dalvik-cache and the lib that come along with the apps....
i don't know if CWM can make partition but ROM manager can make it for you....

Thanks for your quick reply, ROM manager came installed with CM7 by default but I haven't used too much....
Do you know an easy way to make the 2nd partition using this app? (ROM manager)

just follow the instructions on ROM manager on how to partition your SD....then ROM manager will reboot into CWM and it will make partition for you....just one draw back using ROM manager if you want to make partition is the biggest partition you can make is 512mb .....
i suggest you use MiniTool Partition Wizard to make 2nd partition....
The best way is using mini tool.
Backup your sdcard content first.
After that, open mini tool, delete your sdcard, create 2 new partitions. Both must be primary, set first with FAT32 or FAT. Then the second is your sdext. Make it to up to 1gb or less. Then create linux swap, 100mb is enough. Then press apply.
Done,

One question. If I do it using ROM manager, would it erase all data on my sd?

Of course. Your sdcard will be formatted. That's why u should backup first

I think this guide will helpful to you. http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2012/06/how-to-completely-move-android-apps-to.html
Ok thanks. It seems I successfully partitioned my SD card without losing ALL my data. The only problem is that the apps that were on SD (mostly games) are gone. But reinstalling them is not a big problem after all.
