Hey guys.
Thought I'd start a thread discussing the recent problems with people playing with ICS on their phones.
After flashing a various ICS ROM, I tried enabling wifi.
Then, after trying it'd say error, and randomly reboot. Same issue with Bluetooth.
So I ended up trying the PDSfix via fastboot, with no luck.
Then I tried flashing multiple other ROMs (both ICS and Gingerbread), deleting all data each time, changing SIM cards, and changing recoveries. Still no luck.
ROMs tried:
Neutrino
CM9 (joker's)
Nottach
Fruit Cake (stock 2.3.4)
AOKPCB
Now I'm stuck with a phone that has no audio during calls (i can't hear the caller, they can hear me), broken WiFi, Bluetooth, and random reboots that are occuring more and more often.
Any ideas?
I would flash an SBF but I can't find ANY (literally, any) on XDA. All the original threads with SBFs were for multiupload, which we all know is gone.
Thanks in advance.
*****EDIT*****
Found an SBF- in the process of flashing it now. Will update once done.
*****EDIT 2***
Flashed SBF, now I can't even get past the bootloader screen.
No motorola warranty, or insurance on the phone.
The Bluetooth and Wi-Fi issue is hardware problem. If you search the forums a lot of people face it. Only thing you can do is send it in for repair or you could flash a rom with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth disabled.
heres the rom

<edit2> after flashing sbf can you access recovery. Does it just sit there on the boot screen?

After flashing the SBF I cannot access recovery. The device's bootloader was once again locked, and when trying to enter recovery, it showed the android background, but just sat there.
And again, I could not get into android.

you need to use fastboot and wipe userdata

Isn't that expected behavior for the stock recovery? If you flash the SBF you get the stock recovery back and lose access to CWM.
Similar issue with cm7.2
I flashed my new eBay phone from old Neutrino 2.5 that was loaded upon it to latest stable olympus build, synched my wi-fi and bluetooth, everything appeared great, now if I try to make or receive a call without the bluetooth synched, the phone goes dark, callers can hear me, I can't hear them, and have to hard re-boot to access anything on phone... tried factory resetting, clearing data, same issue.
But if I synch BT everything works great.
None of the builds you were able to flash with would allow you to add a BT device? If any do load after you get around clearing caches and installing mod properly, try calls with a BT, that is my issue now, looking for a build that will allow me to use the phone without the BT, ear gets sore wearing this all day long...
sorry to post here but..
Just tried cm-7.2.0-TG-olympus-UNOFFICIAL and cleared cache and dalvik, guess that is not same as doing a clean install, anyhow same issue, only option in a call, when BT was used to start the call, is speaker and BT, for output that is, there is no handset option, is there a place to change a setting to enable the handset?
Maybe that is what is tweaked on our phones, when it does not see an output selection available it SODs on us..?
Will try to read up on how to install that Rom clean or a different one someone here on forums could suggest, or if anyone knows where handset feature is located...
found a link to kernels on here, but confused over which one would be required going from 2.3.7 to these 2.6.xx variants. ATT for now, going straight talk using ATT tomorrow.
Sorry do not have 10 posts in yet to post in Dev section, soon...

Check that out. Delete / move the BT/Wifi driver files, then the thing no longer reboots.
It is a hardware fault. No ROM will fix this, you can only bypass the most adverse effects
Possible fix
Had the same problem did this
Download moto-fastboot, and unzip to C:\moto-fastboot
DL here:http://www.android-advice.com/file-d...rix_Root_Files
Download system image for 2.3.4 and unzip to moto-fastboot folder
DL here http://www.android-advice.com/file-d...bread_4591_ROM
open cmd and navigate to C:\moto-fastboot\
Force fastboot on phone by holding down PWR and VOL UP while inserting battery.
Type these commands:
moto-fastboot oem unlock (it will show atrix ID re-enter with ID at end of line)
when finished, then enter these commands:
moto-fastboot flash boot boot.img
moto-fastboot flash system system.img
moto-fastboot -w
moto-fastboot reboot
When it reboots it should give an error code 2 could not boot
now unlock the bootloader (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871)
after that install cwm recovery again (same link)
now you should be able to access cwm recovery and install another custom rom that works
hopefully it works worked for me.
**edit**
After installing a rom wifi was still not working fortunatly found a fix for that to
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYz_RiuFVRk
did that and now wifi bluetooth work

Alright, so I have a problem where my bluetooth and wifi don't work at all. Wifi status shows up as error and when I try to enable it, it just puts the phone in a reboot cycle where it starts up for a bit then restarts unless I can catch it fast enough to put it into airplane mode. From what I've been reading after doing some looking around on the net, it's most likely a kernel issue.
How can I figure out exactly what is causing this issue so I can flash over the corrupt kernel and try to get it to work? I've tried flashing 3 different roms but none of them fix the problem so I'd like to try to find a way to figure out which individual kernel is causing it.
Post what you've installed and what you're running. Usually using a ROM that does a full wipe will usually solve any issues. Are you using ROM manager to do your installs or CWM?
Originally I was having this issue on 1.83. When I used rsdlite to flash the stock 2.3.4 sbf, it fixed the issue for me. I later tried to install the new androidmarket apk and the issue came back.
Since then, I've used Tenfar's CWM to flash Ninja SF, Alien, the CWM stock 2.3.4 and am now running piCrust but I haven't been able to fix it again.
UPDATE - Do not bother with these instructions. They do not work as intended. Too many different results.
Unlocked R800X - run Sony ICS stock beta as a daily driver on your R800X - the easy way
This is purposed for the stock R800i rom to run on the R800X. Since the information is somewhat scattered in the threads I thought I would bundle it with instructions to help other R800X owners that want to use a completely stock rom with root. This assumes you have an unlocked R800x and know how to get fastboot working. Everything seems to work except MMS.
First a disclaimer...
-I did not create anything here so credit truly goes to Doomlord, Chevyowner, Sony, Google and anyone that contributes to XDA
-This is intended for informational purposes only. Although I hope it works for you, I really dont care if your phone goes up in smoke so use at your own risk.
Now lets have fun!
1) I gathered all the files you will need from XDA and Sony for this:
2) Extract the contents of the above file to c:\ICS using winrar
3) Copy all the *.zip files from the above folder to your phone's SD card
4) Boot device into fastboot mode. With the device off, hold the magnify glass button while connecting the usb cord. If all goes well you see a blue led. If not search forum about your fastboot problems.
5) Flash doomlord's ics beta kernel via fastboot. (this is so we can install from zip and also roots the new rom)
fastboot flash boot c:\ics\doom-ics.img
6) Boot to CWM - keep pressing the magnify glass button right after powering on the device
7) Wipe cache, data, dalvik cache and reboot
8) Boot device to fastboot again
9) Flash sony beta rom files (takes a while so be patient)
fastboot flash system c:\ics\system.img
fastboot flash userdata c:\ics\userdata.img
10) Boot to CWM - keep pressing the magnify glass button right after powering on the device
11) 'Install from zip' all the zip files you copied to your device earlier. Including gapps, doomlords ics boot animation, and cdma
12) Flash stock kernal (fix wifi without loading modules)
fastboot flash boot c:\ics\boot.img
13) To get cell data working - go to settings, xperia, internet settings and click accept
Hope this helps someone. Good luck!
Followed the steps on my R800x, boots, wifi works and runs pretty smooth. Phone crashes after I hit the call button. SMS appears to work, MMS doesn't, even after adding the Verzion APN in settings.
Going to Settings>Xperia>Internet Settings doesn't appear to do anything after hitting apply, mobile data isn't working and calls crash. Haven't tested any games yet though. Are there any steps I might have missed?
Edit: Even though the phone force closes, the call connects and the other party can hear my voice, but there's no way to hang up or any indication that there's a call going on. The Wifi indicator flashes on and off until the phone is rebooted or the call is dropped.

Thanks, but were you aware that calls were going through and the microphone works? you just can't hear the other party or see anything indicating the phone was on, but the other party can hear you and they get a call notification.

Sorry there is trouble.
Again all I did here was attempt to bundle everything that's already available to make it easier. I assumed what I did would work for everyone.
Since I wrote the instructions from memory I should go through them again to see if I missed a step.
My data works fine as well as 3g notification.
My phone app does occasionally get that error but calls and hangs up ok.
Personally I prefer the stock kernel and stock wifi modules because I get way better battery life in standby. Other roms/kernels I was only getting 5 hours and with ics beta with stock kernel I get over 24 hours.
Do you think baseband versions matter here causing different device behavior for data and phone issues?
Please help me, i'm on step 6 and having an impossible time booting to CWM, and am now stuck in a bootloop since flashing doomkernal

Instead of flashing DooMLorD's ICS kernel in step 5, try flashing the three .img files from the official beta, then try this in fastboot mode. It will boot you to recovery instead of flashing it, where you can flash all the .zip files in step 11 onwards. No need to do step 12.

I clicked Thanks, not because this works - it doesn't - but because you at least made the attempt to be helpful in gathering everything together in one place. Step 13 in particular has never seemed to work for me on Verizon.
The facts about the Sony ICS Beta and the R800x are simply these:
Sometimes, some people, for some UNKNOWN reason, will manage to get everything working almost perfectly. At one point, I had working calls and data, downloaded and installed apps over 3G, the works. Then I booted into recovery and made a backup, thinking to share a working Nandroid...
Well, guess what? Not only did it not work for anyone else, it stopped working for me too. I have tried everything to recreate my former success, with -ZERO- success.
At this point, to my knowledge, NO ONE has found a way to make calls AND 3g data work at the same time, as one would expect it to, in any repeatable manner. Maybe calls, sort of; maybe 3G data for browsing, but not for downloading from the market; rarely both at the same time, and never what one would call a daily driver.
In short, right now, the closest thing we R800x users have to a usable ICS is CyanogenMod 9 by FXP and further modified by paxChristos, AGraceful and others. It's something to bide our time with until one of these genius kids on here finally figures it out. As for Verizon and Sony go, it will probably be a long time coming, if ever, regardless of projected release dates to the contrary.
Having said all that... I think I might wipe my phone and try it all again today!
netizenmt... I agree. I have tried going back & forth between GB and ICS and as much as I love the look and feel of ICS at this point I cant use it beyond just playing around with it as CDMA and 3G are not working. For me I have to have this. I dont mind testing a ROM and or a CDMA patch but for me to have no calls at minimum I cant go without. I watch this threa daily and hope that a Super Genius will find a solution. Becuase I know 2 things. When Sony releases the ICS rom for our PLAYS it will NOT be for Verizon users as Verizon would need to release the ICS version or at least a CDMA but the chances of that happening.. I have a better chance of being the next leader of Middle Earth (yes L of the Rings pun) before Verizon gives a monley butt about our phone. I do work next to a corporate office for Verizon and I do have friends that work there but they are not high enough on the food chain to make a mouse squeek. All in all we R800x users are at the whims of the awesome devs here. And for their efforts I salute you..... the CDMA patch may have us at the moment but I know given time something will happen. Keep positive peeps.

Yes, it is both extremely puzzling and annoying how it works for one person one way, another way for someone else, then it quits working... it's like something "intelligent" is in there messing it up for us... That sounds so paranoid, but I don't know how to explain it otherwise.

Its like Verizon is physically ****ing with us.
Hi everybody,
I have been searching all over the Net to find a solution, but to no avail. So this is my last hope.
Here's what happened. I was reading a book on my Razr when it became unresponsive, so I powered it down to restart. Ever since then I am unable to boot to Android. It booted a couple of times (in a hundred, perhaps), only to completely freeze after a few seconds showing me force close messages for all system apps (Home, Contacts, etc.). I've tried to boot in safe mode - freeze. I have tried with and without SIM and external SD:
1. A number of full wipes (cache, data and cache) through stock Recovery.
2. Flashed different stock ROM (Asian) through Fla**** (fastboot), no errors, successful flash
3. Flashed original EU ROM (SPDREM_U_01.6.5.1-167_SPU-15-M2-3_SIGNEuropeAustraliaEMEA_USASPDRRTGB_HWp2b_Service1FF_fastboot.xml.zip) through Fla****, no errors, successful flash
4. Flashed original EU ROM (SPDREM_U_01.6.5.1-167_SPU-15-M2-3_SIGNEuropeAustraliaEMEA_USASPDRRTGB_HWp2b_Service1FF_fastboot.xml.zip) through RSD Lite, no errors, successful flash
5. Did a fastboot -w and fastboot erase userdata, success
All to no avail. It still doesn't boot. I have run out of options, the last one is to send it back overseas, as we don't have an official Moto service here in Russia. But this is the last resort as it will take quite long an I will have to pay considerable shipping charges. But the wait is the major setback as I love this phone.
Is there anything I can do to unbrick it? Is there a way to format internal memory without booting to Android? I suspect this could be the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
The phone was upgraded OTA to (SPDREM_U_01.6.5.1-167_SPU-15-M2-3_SIGNEuropeAustraliaEMEA_USASPDRRTGB), rooted, unofficial Russian language pack was installed via CWM zip. Phone was working OK in this setup prior to the described issue.
Go To TheRazrGuys channel on youtube to find your solution as i had the same issue however when i removed my sd, my device booted
Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out. However, I have tried removing both SD and SIM.

No. Actually, Moto doesn't officially sell devices in Russia. My device is EU.
I know there's a few posts on this, but looking for advice specific to my symptoms. The problem started off with Android media process using up a lot of cpu each time the phone was powered on. It gradually got worse and started rebooting when this happened. Started off as once or twice a day. Then got worse and worse. I had been on a bell atrix ROM (2.3.6) for about a year.
Tried flashing a number of roms, and making sure to clear caches and factory reset each time. Tried numerous versions of the CWMRecovery, no good. I notice that it noly seems to restart if it tries to communicate wirelessly (wifi or 3g seemingly). If I just leave it in cwmrecovery, it stays on fine. If I leave it at the first motoblur setup screen, without entering wifi settings, it stays on fine.
So I guessed it may be related to the radio. Installed a UK radio, bell original one and a euro one to no avail
Is there anything else I can do before I give up, or is it hardware?

just had a look around and came across this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1884381 . Forgetting the Jb reference it might be an idea to follow the steps and see if that helps.
If it were me, I would do a complete system wipe first (CWM>mounts and storage>format system, data, preinstall, osh) and then reinstall a rom (I would recomend CM7.2 to start). I also might be inclined to take the external sd card out as well before restarting phone and see if that helps (going down the corrupt media file route)
Good Luck!

Thanks for this, I never spotted the mounts and storage section for formatting before. Looks to be good to get a clean wipe
Will try now
I managed to get the MROM rom on to it, and it has stayed on for about 30mins now with wifi on.
However, it doesn't boot normally, it says 'Modem did not power up, starting RSD protocol support'. I have to choose Boot Android (no BP) to get it to boot ok. What would make it fail like this?
Is there any way to make the phone always boot android by default?
Another thing to add: I can't add any APN. If I add one and save, it doesn't save.

I can see that i am missing a boot.img to make it boot properly. Where can I download it?
A boot image always comes with any ROM, and MROM is no exception. If you sucessfully flashed the ROM, you've flashed the boot image too, I'm not sure why you think it's missing. But if you really want to reflash it, you can always extract it from the ROM's zip file.

Alright, looks like I misunderstood the function of the boot.img. Any idea as to why it would not load the OS without me prompting it to boot android with no bp?
What is the best process to follow before flashing a rom?
I was doing factory reset, clearcache and clear dalvik from CWM. And I have started doing CWM>mounts and storage>format system, data, preinstall, osh now too.
Is that sufficient to get a good clean slate to start fresh?
And what's the best way to flash the radio? I have tried moto-fastboot radio radio.img, but that seems to stop the OS from loading. I assume the radio be installed after the ROM?
Tried an older gingerbread Bell rom, and same problem. I can only get it to boot by choosing boot android(no bp).
I also can't add an APN to it. I create it, save it and it doesn't save it to the list.
Found a fix here for the APN problem on ICS, but wondering if there's an equivalent on Gingerbread?
'Settings --> More... -> Uncheck 'Enable alt OEM telephony code' and 'Enable alternate getIMSI code'. Then reboot, and now you can add your own apn. '
No idea really, sorry. Kinda seems to me for some reason it's your bootloader that's having issues, not the ROM.
Still cant get it working, can't add an APN.
Replaced the SIM, same.
Noticed that the IMEI and baseband are listed as unknown, and think it's related. So I tried flashing a few radios.
Bell radio stays on about a min, then reboots phone
UK radio reboots once OS has loaded
French radio reboots once OS has loaded
I am based in Ireland, using a phone that was originally Bell Canada. Which radio should I try flashing?
Have you tried AT&T 36p or 37p radio?
No dice. What is the standard process with the radio zip? I have been extracting to a folder, then using moto-fastboot to clear the cache, then install the radio.
Am I missing a step or 2?
Why were you extracting it? Most radios come in a flashable ZIP, which means you flash it through recovery. No extracting.
I always got an error trying to install the zip in CWM. So installed img from fastboot instead. I'll try the newer zips from CWM.

Update on this:
I got a new phone a few days ago, and had trouble adding an APN (same problem it wouldn't save). Problem was it was not reading the sim correctly. I had some sellotape on part of the card. Removed this, and I was able to add the APN no problem.
I have cleaned the contacts on the sim card reader, no luck.
I am convinced that this is the faulty part though. When I go to add an APN, it should automatically populate the MCC and MNC from the sim, but it doesn't.
Sorry to bump an old thread but...
I have left this Atrix aside for a few months, and wanted to try it once more before giving up entirely.
It reboots when I use 3g or wifi. If I leave it offline or in cwm mode, it stays on ok.
Any ideas? Is it definitely hardware? (Have tried about 4 different images)

Does it reboot if you put it in Airplane mode, then connect to WIFI only?
My Atrix randomly reboots if I have the cellular radio on, but if I put it in Airplane and only use WIFI, its very stable. I tried dozens of radios and ROMs, nothing seems to help, so I've chalked it up to some flaky hardware.
So this might be a bit convoluted, but here it goes. I was on the OTA path until last week when I decided to flash some kit kat roms. As my title states, I am rooted with s-off, I've flashed several kitkat based sense roms, BSC, Viper, santod, etc...after doing so I lost 4g and 5ghz wifi. When i flash a new rom I will have 4g for several moments but it always drops, additionally I can not see my 5ghz wifi network with wifi set to auto or 5ghz only. I did already have the new radios installed from the recent OTA's, but I thought I would try to see if flashing the firmware santod posted would help. I flashed that through fastboot and it said it installed, although I did not get the same messages that santod mentioned in his post. So I reflashed the stock rooted rom that santod uploaded (santod is a lifesaver by the way), that rom restored 5ghz wifi, but the same issue with 4g. Now, I am having problems with adb and fastboot recognizing my device. I am in it deep here and would greatly appreciate any advice.
Thanks in advance!

So, I finally got adb/fastboot to work after about three hours of work including a variety of manually installing adb interface drivers/htc drivers and other misc work. After completing that, I flashed the firmware that santod has uploaded to hopefully resolve 4g issues, but still no 4g :crying: .I have my network settings set to cdma/lte of course...I would love any help.
Thanks
Had the same problem. After flashing the stock rom, you have to flash the stock recovery then proceed to do a factory reset. Make sure to back up all your data first cuz you'll lose it all. That seemed to do the trick for me. Also had problems with texting on kitkat, would get message failed after sending 1 text. Lemme know if that ffixes it.

Go to setting >power (battery) clear fastboot mark.
restart phone asap turn off hold volumen rocker down to enter to stock recovery
do a factory reset*
I'm sure you've seen this by now, but 5Ghz wifi isn't quite working on any kitkat roms. Santo's making progress but hopefully we'll have a stock kitkat kernel, modules, and source soon.

Oh, I actually did not. Thanks for clarifying that for me, I will just keep checking back for rom patches.
Thanks.

Ok, I followed those instructions, unchecked fastboot, reboot into hboot then selected recovery, the phone goes to the white HTC loading screen that shows "Entering Recovery" on the top for several seconds then just begins a normal boot. I then used adb commands to enter recovery but it did the same thing. I also tried to factory reset from the typical android feature in settings...
Side note, can you explain what happened? I was already on the latest firmware and radio before flashing the rom.
Many continued thanks for the help.

Ok, I reflashed a recovery from a different source and finally got stock recovery to run then factory reset and then MAGIC 4G reappeared. Thanks. Now, what caused this to happen? Should I not reflash another rom? 4g is more important to me than other roms...
