Sorry to say mate you cannot root this using soc or any other easy root method.
You have either to downgrade to build .42 using flashtools then root then update ota.
ONLY DO THIS IF BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE IF BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED.
If bootloader is unlocked then you can flash a pre rooted kernel which will give you root.
If you go to the se arc pages look in the stickies all the info you need is there with links to the tools you need.
Hope this helps

If it's the offical firmware then by rights you don't need to unlock the bootloader as it's signed code.
Here in Sweden it's been released officially and can be updated using SEUS/PC Companion
But now when I got the official release can I root it?
I have followed this guide to unlock bootloader and root another Xperia Mini but this is for FW 4.0.A.2.368.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227149
Is it possible to root after updating to 2.3.4, FW: 4.0.1.A.0.283?
Check the Arc section, I think they have a method of rooting for this firmware that doesn't require an unlocked bootloader.

Why not go a bit further and root it.Then you can use development tools to streamline your phone.
Then you can either stay on the same rom or upgrade it..
Sent from my X10 using Tapatalk
^ right on !! why not root the phone !! you're gonna love you phone after that !!
Besides the stock gingerbread is laggy you will see the great difference when you use a custom rom

Why not to unlock bootloader. If you do this, you can use better kernels for your phone.
I unlock bootloader with "Flashtool"

Go HERE!!!
Welcome to the world of Android! The guys above are right! You definitely want to unlock bootloader on your phone, which is the first step to getting your phone onto a custom ROM. Since you're new here, I suggest you check out this thread and read things CAREFULLY. Take time to explore. If you have any questions or run into problems, just post here and I can help you out. The developers already have quite a bit to work on.

Help with rooting

Hello and sorry if this has been already asked. I just got my new Xperia Ray and I want to root it, but I can't. I have locked bootloader, android version 2.3.4 and firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62. Tell me exactly what to do cause I am really newbie. Send me links with tutorials to follow if needed.
P.S.: Moderators move it to right.section if it isn't right now. As I said I new here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567125
here for .62
as for unlocking bootloader , use the testpoint method , dont use the official SE method because if you use that method, your phone will brick when you apply the update from them.
With test point, you can get the official sony's ICS update.
Hi..i have the version .69 and i would like to be root..

I would just google "how to root xperia ray." Seriously thats how I rooted my droid x. Thats actually how most network problems get fixed at work.
Cheers

I did googled, but it seems locked bootloader is the problem. And I can't unlock with testpoints. Any way to root with locked bootloader? Also I managed to get to 4.0.2.A.0.42.

if you got any problems with the testpoint, i think you have to try harder as i also had failed so many time doing that...maybe you have to manually install the driver..
I downgrade to .42 with flashtool and rooted with zerg tool. Then installed busybody and cwm with se tweak. All with locked bootloader!

Guys! I found this thread in Ray. I think it might help us.

Why wait? Why don't u do it yourself? If you have an unlocked bootloader then it's pretty much very easy. Just go to the dev section and you will find an easy TUT for rooting devices with unlocked bootloaders. I upgraded my device yesterday then unlocked the bootloader then rooted it. Now I'm running ICS with root and custom kernel so that I can overclock it too. Do it yourself buddy. Don't wait for others to get things done.

If you have rooted GB, you can upgrade to a rooted ICS - i did it thanks to this thread since i wanted to keep my bootloader locked.
If you dont have rooted GB, there are plenty of threads that explain how to do it, basically you would need to downgrade to .58 or .42 and root it using zergrush metod. Afterwards go to that link and flash it to rooted ICS (just follow the steps in that thread)

[Solved] Updated my rooted Sola via PC Companion, can't re-root

So I just put the new 6.1.1.B.1.54 firmware onto my rooted Sola via PC Companion, and when the phone rebooted, I lost root. I was like okay, no prob, let's just root it again with bin4ry's method.
Well, it didn't work. I tried an older version, didn't work with that either.
This is a model where the bootloader can't be unlocked no matter what, so I can't flash the previous 6.1.1.B.1.10 firmware, I'm stuck with this. Apart from bin4ry's method, is there a way to root without unlocking the bootloader?
Thanks!
