What insurance do you have on your SGS2???

I'm trying to figure out what was best in terms of insurance on the SGS2. AT&T is like $5.99/m I believe and requires a $200 deductible. Best Buy (where I got the phone) is like $9.99/m a month w/no deductible. Are their any more options and which are you guys using. I'm bit of a klutz and possibly a misplacer at times lol...don't think I would dish out the the retail for another one...thanks in advance!!!

Squaretrade offers warranties with ADH for a one time fee, its $125 for Android phones if I remember right, but you can usually find discount codes to get it cheaper, its a $50 deductible.
Sent from my Toshiba THRiVE using Tapatalk
Insured with squaretrade for about 3 years. Usually can find 30% off codes. Bought my GS2 with a claim on my Infuse 4G. I guess they didn't have parts yet so they sent me $599.99 and took longer than 5 days so they refunded what I paid for the warranty as well.
There's a company out there that covers lost/stolen phones but I don't remember the name
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I choose AT&T since it cover lost/stolen, that's my primary concern that I will leave the phone somewhere accidentally and forgot about it. Even though the deductible is $200, it beats paying $500 for anew one
OK thanks guys...squaretrade sounds kinda neat gonna look into it...but the Best Buy might be the best move because its automatically deducted from your account every month and it also covers lost/stolen/broken/water damage...and its no deductible and they give you a loaner until they get your claim filled...I had some Best Buy coverage on my Captivate I believe but the plan doesn't seem like the same one...Idk...but these devices are getting more and more costly and I just want to make sure I'm covered. It would suck to have anything less than this GS2 right now especially due to negligence. The att doesn't sound bad theoretically to me because its on my bill and I know I could possibly apply it to getting an upgraded device in the future if I ***** enough lol

I self insure. Cell phone insurance is a rip off.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
I don't have insurance, but so far all the phones I've had haven't gotten damaged or lost, aside from my first 3GS (I had 2). It was lost, didn't have any tracking on it, so I lost it forever.
The only "insurance" I have is Cerberus. It's a cheap, one time fee of 6-7 dollars USD.

So true. Had my Captivate well over a year and the only time I replaced it was when I had hard bricked it...and it was covered under the AT&T warranty (since I just told them it wouldn't turn on anymore). I kept it in a Body Glove skin which was great at shock absorbing...when I finally sold it it had no scratches or blemishes at all. It also was heavier than the SGS2 which helped me keep up with it in my belt pouch. This phone seems a lil fragile tho. I ordered a few rubber skins off Amazon and I plan on doing a little stress testing with each to determine whether or not I should even bother with the insurance at all.

Broken screen after 2 weeks.

I just had a horrible experience today.
I was putting my phone on the fireplace and caught the corner on the edge of the phone.
You can imagine my shock when I looked at the screen and it has a number of cracks across it and looks shattered in the lower left corner.
This was only a slight tip but it still took out the screen.
Has anyone any idea how much it costs to replace the screen here in Ireland.
I only have the phone 2 weeks and this happened. I'm devastated.

Use your phone insurance to get it repaired. Job done.
I don't have phone insurance. Car phone wear house wanted €15 per month and I could not afford to pay that.
I was going to see if I could insure it now with a third party and leave it a week before reporting the problem.

I've no issue with you scamming an insurance company - I'm firmly of the belief that there is a special place in hell for those parasitic bastards. But if you do go legit, I'd expect to pay easily over €200. I had to replace my screen in Sweden and it set me back the equivalent of €300 so I would guess Ireland is probably not that far off.
fonefunshop.co.uk charges about €250 plus shipping I'd guess and will deal with customers in Ireland.
Found this on adverts.ie. €165 but that sounds very cheap considering that to buy replacement screens alone to fit yourself is more than that. Would be wary.
And what CFWH is doing is extortion.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
No it's not, it's insurance. That's how insurance works, if it was extortion they'd come round and break your phone if you didn't pay!

How do you insure a product without some kind of product inspection of some sort? I don't do insurances, but it is stupid if companies offer insurances without examining the product in the first place.

Yes it is you pleb. It's fraud, end of. And the reason we're having to pay £15 a month is so that the insurance companies can recover some of the costs from people carrying out bogus claims like you're encouraging him to do.

I contacted Samsung Repair and they gave me the number for Fondmenders in the GPO. I called them and they will replace the screen for €160.00
Its going in on Thursday and should be ready Friday.
I also get insurance for €37.00 per year with Zurich so I'll keep that just in case something else happens to it another time.
€37.00 per year is a long way off what Car Phone Warehouse where charging.
Anyway I'll know on Friday if I get a happy ending.
Don't you have something like household insurance in Ireland?
Something similar happened to me.. 3 days after i got it, dropped it in SAND (yes, SAND!)
The edge on the left side got chipped, like a small paranthesis ( - it was outsided the used screen, in the space between the used screen and the edge.
However.. 2 days later.. it got stolen, i never got around to fix it
Now i've got a new one..

And since I work for an insurance company don't tell me that the £15 recovers some costs because it's bs.

If your saying that what I was considering is fraud then what do you call it when the insurance company pay an uninsured no tax and no licence driver then put my premium up to cover the cost 3 fold.
Don't talk to me about insurance fraud when the biggest fraudsters are the insurance companies them self.
I have had lots of occasions when the insurance companies screwed me over.

Just to update on the broken screen.
My phone went in to FoneMenders in the GPO Arcade (http://fonemenders.ie/) yesterday morning at 9:30
They replaced the screen within the hour and only charged €159.99
I had got prices from other compaines as much as €270.00
The phone looks brand new so I'm over the moon with the repair, very professional.
I now also have a flip cover and screen protector on the device. Only short of wrapping it in bubble wrap
I really don't want to go down that road again.
I still have my insurance policy on the device so should anything happen again I have that to fall back on.

What does replacing the motherboard in my SII mean?

Hello once again audience,
I have a question and basically the title says it. The repair shop is going to replace my phone's motherboard, so what does this mean? Does the motherboard come with new core components like the CPU and GPU? Because my phone was water damaged, and I would prefer all the key components replaced along with the motherboard so it wouldn't corrode over time. And of course the CPU might have been worn out? I hope my phone's performance would be as good as new...
Thanks
You might as well buy a new phone if he is replacing everything, most likely it will cost more than a new phone if he is to replace everything and there would be no warranty.
Get a new phone. Cheaper and more reliable option. The motherboard IS the whole brain of the phone. You can get an s3 or s4 for basically the same price

But well, you didn't say if warranty/insurance covered your device.

I reread it and he states that the OP can get an S3 or an S4 for basically the same price as the S2's motherboard?? Wtf? here an S2's motherboard is 8k rupees and and an S3 costs 29k and S4 costs 42k I was just stating that it's not like that at all now, and I quoted you because you said something what I was thinking, and what the hell do you mean I was attempting to change what somebody said, I was saying if the S4 costs that less, the sales would go over the roof.
Edit :The sarcasm was meant for the third poster if that's the problem, when I said "like he said" I was actually referring to your statement "if S4 cost same as S2's motherboard, give me 20" which I thought was a good joke.

I bought the phone for the wife at xmas unlocked for £300,and Ive given her cash to get an iphone5.

There are genuine sellers on ebay like me,or my wife, but we only sell phones that are fully paid for when we buy them.
But if a seller(and theres loads of them) says hes selling because of "unwanted upgrade" then
1.WTF has he got it if its unwanted
2.Means to me hes still got to pay some sort of contract, and if he doesnt pay phone gets blacklisted.
Anyway,I would try a new usb port kit,and if its still faulty, then stick it on ebay.

Research + eBay + Patience = Save Money
I just replaced the motherboard of my S3 for essentially <$40. I bought an S3 on ebay with a broken screen but good motherboard (keywords like 'it charges', 'turns on', 'vibrates', and 'plays sound' come to mind) and swapped it into my S3 in about 20 minutes or so total with great success. The other super important thing is to verify a clean IMEI / ESN number because that lives on the motherboard too {However, I assume you could inject the 'good' IMEI from your old board into the new one with some pain and research. Not ideal.}
Anyway, yeah, the broken phone cost me a tiny but under $100 including shipping and I resold it just now on ebay for $66 including shipping. Big win, as the random tech guy in my town was going to charge me $220 and said it would almost definitely cost as much or close to as much as buying a new/refurb unit. My functionally and cosmetically perfect phone and the fact that my wallet is only ~$34/35 lighter determined that was a bold faced lie.
Disclosure: I do have electronics experience, but not with phones. And this fix was literally about 10 or so small screws and a few adorable itty bitty lil ribbon cable things. Easy day.
TL;DR-- Enter the Google Fu and observe your enemies upon the fields of eBay to fix things for cheap and/or at least know when it's good time to give up :good:

How to get warranty?

So I just traded my iPhone 5 for and HTC one, I'm not the cover type of guy. So I put on it a ghost armor protector, but wanted to know if there was a way to add warranty to it ? Specially accidental damage protection

you can add it only when you buy the phone from AT&T but it has a 200 deductible
I'd suggest squaretrade or one of the other 3rd parties.
I AT&T warranties their branded phones for 1 year no matter where you bought it from. But doesn't cover breakage from drops, getting wet etc.

You have to make a transaction to get a warranty with them along with most if not all extended warranty plans. Here are two ways you can get a warranty.
1. If the person you traded the phone with had purchased the phone using a premium credit card that doubles your warranty for FREE, they can transfer it over to you as premium credit cards double the manufacturers warranty and "gifts for others" qualify as well. Not all credit cards are premium ones.
2. If they purchase a square and trade warranty for you since they are the original owner, they can transfer that warranty to you as it is tied to the IMEI number.
But if it was a trade with someone you never interact with or will ever see again then I don't know if any other way to help you.
He bought it from att directly I probably will never see this person again

He is the sole person that can help you get a warranty with Square and Trade. Trust me, I have 2 square and trade warranties and have had 2 other ones in the past. They will require you to file proof of purchase if a claim is submitted. Buying a warranty without this proof of purchase will waste your money.
Similarly, these are the pros and cons of purchasing things off of craigslist.

Are they offering open enrollement for phones not purchased at BestBuy?
Verizon is and $110 would be the cheapest way to get a new phone replacement.
I bought my Note 2 on ebay last year for $200 and cracked my screen with no warrenty.. called Verizon they have open enrollement right now. Only question I was asked was whats wrong with the phone?"screens cracked" New one in the mail next day..cancel the insurance afterwards if you think it's a rip there's no contract on insurance.
I've never dealt with BestBuy so maybe they can fix it right now cheaper then $110

I suggested previously send it to mobiletechvideos.com I haven't used them but there highly trusted by people on XDA for there work and have a clean professional website with fees posted.
Mobiletech does great work. Honestly you can get led combos off of eBay for like 130 and it's super easy to change yourself.

This. I bought the full assembly (AMOLED+Digitizer+Metal Frame) from this guy:

And followed this tutorial (there were some small differences since he used a Global N2):

With some patience and a mini-screwdriver I was able to bring a Note II to like new condition. If you get the full assembly with the frame you should be able to restore the phone to near factory state. I definitely wouldn't try replacing just the glass, or even glass+digitizer without the frame, there's too much risk and you're never going to be able to get the adhesive just right.
@funnyperson1 I thought you had a cheap fix for people with cracked screens it's the same price to have a professional do it lol
Heck... I seen a sweet looking mint VZW SCH-1605 - stuck in a simple bootloop on ebay sell for $150 today free shipping
Sadly there is no cheap way on the note 2. I mean if you wanna risk doing just the glass and curing loca glue then yea.

roflcopterssoisoi is right, there isn't really a good cheap alternative for the Note 2.
You can replace just the glass and reglue yourself for $30, but it's risky and probably won't come out right (at least I know it won't if I do it).
You can get a professional to replace just the glass for around $125 (that's what MobileTechVideos charges)
For around $80-123 you can replace the lcd, digitizer, and glass but that still requires melting adhesive, prying, and hoping you don't mess up.
For between $120-150 you can get lcd, digitizer, and frame and replace the components yourself. This is what I did and it was pretty easy, hard to mess up.
For $200+ you can have Samsung, MobileTech or someone else replace the screen for you.
For me the decision was easy because the digitizer and amoled were completely dead, otherwise the MobileTechVideo repair for $125 is appealing. Still, for a couple bucks extra and an hour of my time I like the idea of having a like new, non-damaged assembly.
Yes almost all the options are expensive, but a working Note 2 goes for $300+ on Swappa and eBay. If you repair it and resell it, you'll probably get your money back. You could probably repair it, use it until the Note4 is released and still get your repair money back.
If you had another phone to use you could even sell the parts for a cracked Note2 for more than $200 total. The motherboard is going for $150-180 on eBay, selling the cracked screen and other parts may add up to $100+. You could certainly get enough to buy the bootloop N2 and fix it via Odin.
