[Q] X2 to StraightTalk - Motorola Droid X2

After days of research, to catch up with slang and terminologies, and wading through pages and pages of incessant chat. I still have questions, though, mostly in part to ST and WallyWorld are no longer carrying the LG220.
I've got a former VZW Droid X2 and would like this on Straight Talk. After reading the Fassy page on flashing to ST some of the other Driod users are not having as easy a time as those with a Fassy.
So my questions are these;
-Which donor is best suited a Motorola 418 GSM, Samsung R375C, or a SAMSUNG 404? My WallyWorld is pathetic, well by WallyWorld standards.
-Has anyone had success with flashing over to ST? If not, what problems are you facing?

An update:
Picked up the Samsung R375C last night. Gonna try the Fassy method.
I'll continue to update this thread with any problems or successes. Seeing as how there's very little information on this for DX2's and this is my first time attempting this my hopes are not very high that it'll work.

First problem is that I can not get CDMA, QPST, or HW virtual serial port to detect it my MB870. Anyone know of a sure fire way to do this?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Solution)
1. With HW Virtual Serial Port select a port com, I chose Com10, then input this IP Address 192.168.16.2 and Port whatever, I chose 11008.
2. BE SURE TO DISABLE NVT in Settings.
Once created; in the VSP section it show say "Created" then "Connected" if it found the DX2.
In the LAN section Status should read "Connected".
2. Open CDMA WS click Connect.
That should be it. You'll know it's worked when the "Device" section auto-fills the information about your phone.

Syracuse NY

Hi, Is anyone from Syracuse, I want to upgrade my Verizon XV6800 but would really like someone with experience as a guide.
Thanks
Steve
theres documentation all over these forums bud. endless amounts of info, completely searchable so you dont have to waste any time. read the wikis, read the posts, and if you really need extra help, then PM somebody, but dont make new threads like this its completely unnecessary

I'm in the Syracuse area (Morrisville, to be precise), but frankly, I'd wait a bit for the official Verizon update to come out. I suspect that doing that upgrade first will make subsequent ROM changes a lot easier. kflip is right, though, there's plenty of documentation for doing this.
Good guide here as well (that I found in one of the threads on these forums) for Verizon subscribers.
http://ppc.stoleyour.net/xv6800/
I followed these steps and had a painless upgrade to DCD 3.2.3 from stock. The only thing that confused me for a minute was that I needed to unplug the USB connector at one point or it wouldn't boot into bootloader mode.
I did have to call Verizon support and tell them my phone was telling me that is was not authorized. I got a nice friendly tech in South Carolina who walked me through some basic troubleshooting then said that he needed to generate a new A key for me and everything works great.

Best Custom ROM for (att) HTC Fuse for GPS & WiFi

I want to set up my new (att) HTC Fuse to run satellite based GPS with internal maps and WiFi Internet connections. I do not want to pay for the att GPS or data plans. I want to use the internet through WiFi at home or at hotspots without using att by mistake and receiving data charges accordingly. In addition, what is the best GPS software: Tom Tom, Garmin or some other? It is fine with me to load all the maps on the SD card and run independent of Google Maps. A large 'Points of Interest' database is also desirable.
First of all, your questions have been answered numerous times and this is not the thread for these questions. In fact your subject does not match with the contents. However, below are my suggestions:
It's better to call ATT customer service to cancel your data plan so that you dont accidentally use the data plan. There are also cabs that
can be used to disable the data plan.
TomTom or Garmin . it's upto you. However, beware of the fact that there is very noticable lag in fuze-gps.
I myself do not use data plan and have been using FuzeGPS as far as I can.
Regarding the custom ROM - you can use any of the custom ROM as each has been catered to serve different taste.
I am in the exact same situation as you... the first thing I have to say to you is READ... Read & Do NOT post (and especially do not start a new thread for something like this)!
That being said, the NRG ROM Series by NRGZ28 (MAKE SURE YOU HARDSPL!) is what I personally use on my fuze, and Tom Tom 7 would be my recommended Nav software. That being said, with both of us being in the US, it might be a bit hard to get your hands on. Even more so with the proper maps. If you need help getting your hands on Tom Tom, let me know.... ALSO-- FIND, Download, & Install Modaco's NoData.... the stock ATT Rom WILL CONNECT to the internet even if you don't want it to. ATT's explanation is that "it is a primary data, secondary voice device." Don't end up like me with $50 in data charges at the end of the month just because of the stock ROM. You can also remove the password under connections and manually key it in when you are sending / recieving a MMS (the password is cingular).
What does the poll have to do with your questions?
For the data usage, I agree about downloading the NoData cab, it works great.
For the ROM, there's lots out there and all of them will work. Its best to look at what's included and figure out what has the stuff you'll use.
WiFi works fine in all of the ROMs.
GPS is where it could get a little tricky. Since you don't want to use data, then you'll have to disable aGPS (since March 1st, most ROMs have it enabled I think because of the AT&T fix). This will cause your cold fix time to take longer.
As far as GPS software, I like Garmin the best. Its just like a Nuvi unit and the maps are the most up-to-date for my area, especially compared to TomTom.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Obviously I am new to this forum (I registered last month), but I have spent MANY hours searching and reading many threads on this very interesting site. My questions have not yet been answered well enough to make a decision. I have read good things and bad things about almost every issue. Some guys say the stock ROM is horrible, some say it is great and every thing works wonderful after simply eliminating the att bloatware. Some say stay away from cooked ROMs and some say it is the only way to go. Obviously your research has answered these simple questions for you which others also may find helpful. If you can, please post some of the thread links that answer these questions in a more definitive fashion than my research has found. By the time I read four or five pages of most of the threads I found in my search there were so many contradictions and varied results that it became a little confusing, hence I was hoping for some simple answers that I hoped would be of interest to me and others with similar questions. I assumed there was more than Garmin and Tom Tom out there, but if not, I agree they are both probably good choices.
Thanks again for your comment – David.

Dude,
If you have an ATT Fuze, Why are you polling about the iphone, win-mo, and palm OS's? I'd Semi-understand the poll if you were undecided about which phone to go buy but you just picked up an ATT Fuze. The Fuze runs on WinMo and you're on a Forum that mostly works with phones that run Windows Mobile yet you're going to poll and ask about which smartphone OS is better?
If this poll has anything to do with a purchase of a phone, go to something like CNET.com or another electronic review site to find your answers.
I'm not trying to flame you but i'm struggling to understand how your poll and HOW that has anything to do with your question that you're posting?
Anyways, its a preference. I know it gets confusing to read all the pages about all the ROM's that are posted but i'm going to tell you, its all about what YOU want and it has nothing to do with anyone elses opinions. If i were you, i'd go flash every ROM and see which one works out for me. There are compromises but you really need to go through it yourself and see which one works out best for you. There is NO PERFECT ROM for this phone as the phone itself isn't perfect. As for your navigation needs, go find "iGo" for windows mobile. I'm not sure why people get business oriented phones if they don't want to spend money on a data package because the data capabilities and business oriented software is what makes these phones different than a regular cell phone. I still don't see a point in the poll but good luck.

I accidently hit the 'Poll' button and couldn't back out of it. I should have started over with a new post, but I made up the poll to fill the blanks instead. My vote is for WinMo. Thanks for asking - David.

[Q]

I bought an eris off craigslist, and this time around it was a bit of a ripoff.
make a long story short, guy cloned it (or so it seems) and I couldn't really get it to work. So now i started reading the
HOW TO: Fully Flash an HTC Droid Eris to Metro PCS found on Howard Forums and copied throughout the area
and it's a great read. I go to metro pcs, have them flash it. They tell me that since it was cloned the ID numbers on it are from some old phone at some point the phone may stop working. (Great...)
Hence I need a phone so I have this until i get another or it dies and I get another-whichever comes first.
Now in reading that great tutorial I have come to part 3, number 6. I can't get it to work properly. So i post on that thread my dilemma (it's on the last page of it), and someone replied that if I am getting "$" prompts and not a "#" prompt it isn't rooted.
oookkkkkkkkk.
So now, i am looking to root it I guess. After reviewing some threads here it seems there are some massive advantages to rooting the phone. and find this nice thread:
Eris Rooting Guide: Updated 18 November 2010, 10:47 am Central U.S. (found on androidforums)
So now that you have some background and I am running out of breath, here's the actual questions (please keep in mind while i learn quick and am "computer techy" i am oblivious to phones):
1) Will rooting the phone mess up my flash, or the fact that it's cloned.
2) Will it wipe out any valuable information?
3) If I root it will i lose connection to my service?
4) is there a way to reset the phone so I have the original ID numbers to it? (guy at metro pcs dealer tried and it wouldn't work no matter what he did and i thought him pretty fluent in his work)
5) most folks have told me to go with the 1 click root, while that sounds awesome, does it truly matter what rom i use? (one with it or something like froyo (not v 38 i guess)
Additionally if someone could recommend some good reads, I would appreciate it. While I realize most people first think to scour the posts posted (and I have) it's difficult to pull tangible information in an efficient manner with such a vague search ( How to root eris), not to mention, I would prefer advice from reputable folks and there are always ppl out there to hurt others (hence i know this is THE place to go )
OK, now Ive run out of breath
Thanks in advance to all
JSammy
PS sorry can't post links - im a noob to this board
1) Will rooting the phone mess up my flash, or the fact that it's cloned.
It shouldn't.
2) Will it wipe out any valuable information?
No.
3) If I root it will i lose connection to my service?
No.
4) is there a way to reset the phone so I have the original ID numbers to it? (guy at metro pcs dealer tried and it wouldn't work no matter what he did and i thought him pretty fluent in his work)
Not sure. Probably not.
5) most folks have told me to go with the 1 click root, while that sounds awesome, does it truly matter what rom i use? (one with it or something like froyo (not v 38 i guess)
You can use whatever ROM you like. I personally recommend Tazz Floyo. It's a matter of preference.

Z3v Updates on Straight Talk?

Hey guys.
I am new to your group, and while i did search around - I could not find talks of people updating the Z3v on Straight Talk network.
It is currently running (Android 4.4.4 Soft: 23.0.E.1.44)
I was wondering if someone could point me in that direction?
I dig this device!
I've been an Android fan since the original Moto Droid (still have one in like new condition) but because of work, have swapped back and forth with eHphone over the past 10 years. I'm a little rusty.
Thanks for any help!!
It'll have to be manually done. At least from the experience I have, but I just found it easier to stay rooted and follow that path. I believe the update network j looks for vzw Sims for the update server to accept the request.

Tracing the Baseband

Hi all,
I am trying to trace the baseband by placing hooks according to this article on Nexus 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3.
fabiensanglard.net/cellphoneModem/index2.php ( I can not post links please add http)
But I have been able to place the hook but can not intercept any communication. I have several questions.
1. This article shows that RILd uses /dev/smd0 to communicate with the modem. But for Nexus 5/Galaxy S3 there is no smd0. Does anyone have any idea on what interface Nexus 5/Galaxy S3 uses to communicate with the modem?
2. Does the RILd interface / Modem driver use the AT interface or something else to communicate for the newer android phones (this article is pretty old)?
3. Have anyone done this sort of project to trace the communication between the application processor and baseband processor recently. Can anyone give me any idea on how to proceed or any link?
I am a newbie pardon me for any silly queries.
Thanks,
Imtiaz

I have a Nexus 5 and a Galaxy S3, both rooted with TWRP installed, I can try to help but you'll have to tell me what you need/want me to do on my end.
I'm slightly familiar with RIL on the S3, 3-4 years ago, myself and some other members here that have a Straight Talk S3 SCH S968C, it is only 3G capable, no 4G LTE, we were using the Verizon SCH I535 ROMs without a SIM because the S968C required no SIM, but the last few builds of Kit Kat, just before Lollipop was released, started forcing us to use a SIM to have working mobile data. The group of us dug around trying to find a way to get the ROMs to work without the SIM on the S968C they way they worked without SIM before whatever change was made in the ROMs that required SIM. In the process, there was a lot of discussion about everything involving the radio at all levels and from all angles. I also did some collaborating with Motorhead(a developer from Android Area 51 forum) doing some RIL development trying to solve the issue.
It's been a while but I still have both devices, the tools and the software to dig into this with you. Where would you like me to start?
Here is a thread with a bit of the discussion involved in trying to get a working ROM built without the SIM dependency. I'm not a developer but I chased this issue for a year or more, I might have encountered something that can answer some of your questions. I don't remember any details after all this time but anything that I discovered at the time that might be relevant might come back to me in the process. There is RIL disscusdion randomly scattered in this thread, you'll have to go through every post, maybe one of the devs involved might have posted something helpful in the coding that was discussed.

Send me a PM and we can arrange a more convenient and faster way of communicating if you would like, it might help us make faster progress with this.
