[Resolved] Decided to root; I failed - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
My GT-i9100T is my first android phone, I've been using for two months and I love it. This afternoon I decided to root my phone (I have never rooted or installed a custom ROM on this phone before) using this method, and I downloaded all the files and followed all instructions. When I selected 'apply update from external storage' it took a little while and gave me this error: 'E:unable to mount /sdcard (No such file or Directory)'.
I searched online but I couldn't find anything helpful but I did factory reset my phone and yet it still didn't work. Can anyone help me?

i think u should have put the files in ur internal sdcard not external, please check by doing so and see
ps - alternatively u can put the file's in ur cache folder and select 2 install the same from cache in recovery and see

Thanks for the swift reply!
I don't have an external SD card and I've never used one.
EDIT: I can't do that because the cache folder is inaccessible.

then try the alternative ie cache folder option and see, since the cwm .zip does require an extsd since thats the one giving u the error while updating if i am correct

You need a physical external sdcard in order for this to work.
If you're in need of root just flash a CF-Root kernel..

Why? And you didn't exactly help by giving him the wrong information. Quite the opposite in fact. On the plus side, you've been thanked not once, but twice for giving that wrong information. Excellent.

Yes, new rom replace all things
well since you have already done factory reset (and lost all your data) no point in whats written below
But if it happens next time and you want to preserve data, please mention if you are running an odexed/deodexed rom. Someone nice here can upload the file(s) you need and you can push them to your phone using adb

Yes stock rom will always be odexed. to check you can go to app or framework folder in system/ and see if you have corresponding odex files for apk or jars.
Edit: Also a suggestion. Don't flash mods that do not specefically say that they are for odexed roms (if you are on stock). For brightness control you can use lux brightness free from market. it gives you control on how much brightness you need
One guy from local forum gave me a restore zip file. Any ideas how can i push it on phone, if it loads only in cwm and download mode?

[Q] File not found after superwipe on my phone

Hi guys,
Im new to android and flashing roms. I'm having trouble flashing a ROM after I did superwipe. Im on Jellybean 4.1.1.
Here's what I did before the super wipe.
1. Installed CWM 6.0.1.2
2. Rooted my phone. I even checked it with a root checker application and it said that I was rooted.
3. Copied Superwipe and Android revolution hd 14.0 to my internal SDcard.
4. Went to recovery mode and installed superwipe.
After the superwipe install, I was suppose to go back to choose zip from sd card but it said FILE NOT FOUND.
I already searched the forums but none were specific to my case or it didnt give me the answer. I also searched google and found that I can copy my ROM to my phone using Android SDK but I have no idea what I'm doing.
Can anyone help me? Currently stuck at CWM recovery menu.

Because Super wipe format your internal SD card
1 though odin flash stock rom and root again
2 push the rom in external sd and insert in your device than flash

[Q] CWM Recovery on Galaxy Player 4.2 {Related to No WiFi}?

Hello there guys so I'm here because I did a very silly mistake related to the CWM for the Galaxy Player 4.2 (Or at least that's what I think I did ).
Related to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39344227
Anyway I'm not familiar with CWM since the Galaxy Player 4.2 is my first Android device ( And is not like the device has been easy on us right ), my device is rooted and the problem is that I already got the Kernel on my device and as expected I'm without WiFi. How can I configure the CWM Recovery without WiFi, if not, how can I get WiFi back?.
Sorry for bothering with dummy questions/mistakes and thanks in advance .

Can I flash the fix without CWM, for example with Odin?. I'm having a really hard time here, since I was dumb enough to install the Kernel without configuring the CWM before or at least making sure I could do it without the WiFi. Now the problem is when I want to flash with Rom Manager it says I need the recovery since I'm not a premium but again in order to get the recovery I need WiFi internet :/.

Wow it's the first time I see somebody having more problems with CWM than odin (no offense). Actually all you need to do is to put the patch into your device and then boot into CWM. Once into CWM, go into install zip from sdcard, then chose zip from sdcard and chose your patch zip. Once you choose it, you will see a bunch of no and one yes, check yes and it will patch it. Once it's done, reboot your device.
Hope it helps.
I'd like to know if flashing the kernel with CWM will make loose data, apps and preferences ? Thanks.

You're right, it works fine ! Now I have a question : I tried a backup in CWM, system and data have been backed up, but neither applications nor cache.
I got the following error messages :
Code:
No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage.
Backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Any idea ?

/sdcard/.android_secure is the directory of the download of big apps (for example apps like nova or subway surfers I think) Cache has been backed up. Don't worry, all your things has been backed up.

Man, I feel so stupid right now . I managed to run the CWM boot now when I try to install the zip the update. Says:
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted"
Maybe I should tell you everything I did just in case.
I had the device already rooted.
Flashed the kernel
Installed the CWM v5.0.2.7
Transfered the Fix zip to sdcard
then I did everything you said and also tried to disable verification and still failed.
Sorry to be bothering U_U.

Also, cwm backup seems to ignore backup of boot.image and recovery image. There is not even an error or warning message.

can't delete any files with root access -SOLVED

Hi!
Im new here. I see that there are many experienced members here, and i hope that could help me solve the problem.
I have rooted galaxy s2, JB 4.1.2 and kernel siyah v6.0b5.But suddently my usb storage,sdcard0 and micro SD Card became protected.
I can't move or delete files. (error access denied) Can't download anymore from google play, and applications can't save on sdcard0 anymore.
But my phone is rooted and i can use all applications that i have installed.
Also when i connect phone with pc, and if i want to delete any folder, i get a warning 'the storage is write protected' (sdcard0). But phone is rooted.
I already did factory reset, and i try to format usb storage but files always come back. I also rooted again I've put all my knowledge, but i can't find a solution.
sorry for my bad english

i have the same issue right now. i need help. i dont wanna lose my phone...please does someone know the solution for this?
OP have you find it?
You both need to flash stock firmware in download mode with Odin as many times as you need to until your phone works normally again. If you have problems with Odin or flashes appear successful but the phone still won't boot normally, search for Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread & try the stuff in that thread. Specifically, If you're in a situation where flashes appear to be successful but the phone still bootloops, flash the 3 part firmware linked to in his thread (only if you defnitely have an I9100 though; if you have another variant, don't).

S3 stuck on the samsung icon - even after flashing rescue firmware

Hello.
My s3 recently stopped working and it ill only go up to the samsung logo and stay there. (this issue happened right after the battery was completley drained using the led...)
I've tried countless times to reinstall the rom i had, update it to a newer version of the same rom and even go back to an old version i still had on my SD card. I used the Archidroid 2.5.2 at the time and with the setting f2fs (and agni kernel if im not mistaken)
since then, i tried to change the file format back to ext4, ofcourse with full wipes, and change any other possible configuration on the setup of the rom. After all of these tries failed, i assumed i could just go and use Odin to install some stock firmware (following some advices i found here on the forums), and everything seemed to worked perfectly. Odin recognizes the phone, and it finishes the flashing with a big green happy PASS!. However, the phone still sits there at the samsung logo and just chills...
Tried to flash different stock ROMs and even tried to flash the rescue firmware from this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735&postcount=6) which again, seemed to work, but stayed in the samsung logo.
i kinda lost hope, although it seems the phone still can be saved (can access recovery and odin)...
i'd really appreciate the help!
also, i am kinda noobie in this and might need simpler words to understand.
Thanks alot!

Hmm, so it didn't boot even when it was 100% stock? You said that you got those error messages in stock recovery but then a few minutes later you said that you had CWM. If so, then you might need to. I found some guides but I can't really vouch for them since I've never had to restore /efs like that, so following them would be at your own risk.

Thanks alot for your time and help, ill look into those guides and see what can be done.
about the recovery... while we were chatting here i was trying a lil guide about that efs issue (didnt know there was an issue with it till you pointed it out, so never looked for it). on that guide i found, it said to install custom recovery, so i installed one i had already on my computer...
about the guides you found, im on it already trying to install that adb stuff and see if something works
anyway, THANKS for your time! although it is still stuck, you helped me alot!!
