Link2SD Apps/Games Files - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

In Link2SD, when I move apps/games to SD card, does that go to the main one or the second partition ext3?
Is it good to store apps/games in main one or ext3?

You use link2sd to free up internal storage.
You must link apk, dalvik cache, and libs to ext3 or ext2/4 depending how you have formated your partition. Dont move launcher because of performance.
In the end, yes its safe.

Where do I store my apps/games? In main SD card or ext3 partition?

For storing you use the sd card (fat32 partition). For using with link2sd you must use the ext partition.

So Music/Image files can be stored in SD card (FAT32 partition) and install apps/games in ext3 partition?
I thought ext3 partition was to store dalvik cache and libs files

The ext partition stores the apk, dex and lib files when you create a link. If moved normally to SD Card, then it's moved to the 'normal' fat partition where you store music and stuffs.

if u configure the link2sd .. there is an option where to store the linked apps.. external or internal... choose external...
## some times the apps get stored on SD card and arent linked to sd-ext as in case of stock custom roms,.... so u have to manualluy multi select and just press.. actions-- create link ...
u can check where the roms are installed by slecting from the drop down menu -- linked ,, on internal .. on sd card ,, system etc..

help pls ,,,,,
I have no idea what the question is.
i guess he meant he want to move apps to his sd card ..
1.download link2sd from market
2.copy paste all your sd card files to your computer ( this will format your sd card )
3.reboot to cwm
4.go advance
5.go partition sd card
6.choose your size ( i choose 1024 mb dun go 256mb too little )
7.linux swap 0 mb
9.wait ( quite long about 5mins )
10.done
11.reboot
12.enter link2sd
13. pick ext 3.
14.reboot
15. you can now send apps to sd
The easy way to do it is format it with clockworkmod, it will create an EXT partition and a swap along with the standard FAT partition.
I preferred to use commandline parted and shell fu, but there is also gparted linux liveCD or windows tools like Easeus or Minitool.
Then use link2sd to "link" apps to use the ext partition. Your ROM may already have a2sd, in which case app2sd app is a GUI to control that, or for CM you can use S2E as well
-Download 'Forece2SD' .apk file
Note: This will only work if you are rooted
If you thought My comment was gelpful, Gimme a one-up!
@kabir: force2sd doesn't appear to handle or reformat an EXT partition. There are significant issues with running apks from the FAT sdcard partition (app break on boot, disappear when using usb storage, possibly lower performance due to all the virtual mountpoints), and I think link2sd is better than force2sd because of that.
Can you really use EXT partition of SD card as internal memory ??
he mean swap right? so the main selected memory would be sd card.
i have made a tutorial
go and read it
thx you eraser0
but ur ways is too many steps to follow and it is just linked , have any idea same with this ..? , just flash with CWM and the partition changed ...lol..
Example ~http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161557
I agree.
The only purpose of suggesting force2sd was its simplicity, and I can't think of a simpler way of freeing up space.
Also, the partition. basically, all we're doing is fooling system to believe that it has more memory than it actually does.

if u move to sd it moves it on ur fat32 type partition of sd card...
if u move to internal it moves to phone m emory
when u create link in the actions it then moves the sd card or intenal stored app 2 ext3 partiton (u have to check the option move to external in the setup of link2sd)

So when it's linked with other apps, it moves from FAT32 to ext3, so FAT32 will not have the apps or data on it,
Creating link is better for performance?
create link reduces performance ,,,,, as system has to go through the link cycle to intercept the program,,, but its not measurable for small cluter of link,,
, u will feel if u use above 500 mb linked amount of data...
i have 500 MB sd-ext almost full and its cool,,, just wipe the cache using the link2sd app,, easy smoth and cool
pressing thanks button is a symbol of ur thankful nature DDD,, and it doesnt cost u money too :OOOOOO

ace move dalvik cache to sd card without partitioning on stock rom

1. enable app2sd
2. it stores all apps in folders in mnt/asec which are mounted asec files, and they are in .android secure folder on sd card
3. dalvik cache files are in data/dalvik cache folder
4. from data/dalvik cache move [email protected]@app name file to mnt/asec/ app name folder
5. rename dalvik file to pkg.odex
in every asec app folder is cca 1.5mb of free space, so it only works for dalvik cache files under cca 1.5mb size.
how to enlarge space in asec folders?
What ya just said?

what you don't understand?
most app2sd instructions tells you how to do it on partitioned sd card
this is a method od moving dalvik cache files to single partition sd card
apk files are in mnt/asec folder compressed in .asec
so this is the way to move dalvik cache files manually to sd card to free up internal memory
this way you can install zillion apps to ace.
what you don't understand?

In the first step you said enable a2sd. And afaik, a2sd itself requires an ext partition to function! So how is it possible?

no it doesn't. sams stock rom have built in option to move apps to sd. you only have to enable it. you can do it with app2sd or some similar application. on ace go to settings-applications-manage applications-and choose any aplication. you will see move to sd card option.
so:
1. enable app2sd
2. it stores all apps in folders in mnt/asec which are mounted asec files, and they are in .android secure folder on sd card
you don't have to partition sd card or istall custom rom.

at one and only fat32 system partition on sd card.
how to enlarge space in asec folders?
dalvik cache files of system apps are labeled [email protected]@apk name. you can do similar thing here:
1. free up space on system/app folder
2. move system apps from data/app to system/app with link2sd (convert to system apps) or some file manager
3. set permissions to be the same as other apk in system/app folder
4. move dalvik cache files and rename it to apk name but extension must be .odex instead of .dex
5. set permissions for .odex files you created
6. reboot
wow..!!It works..Thanks OP:thumbup:

I didn't know this, it's very usefull, manually do stuff that link2sd and titanium do.
You can really odex apps just by renaming dalvik cache and putting it in the same address as the app!? I wonder if it works for all apps.

yes. works for all afaik. the only problem is:
in every asec app folder is cca 1.5mb of free space, so it only works for dalvik cache files under cca 1.5mb size
so the problem is in asec files, not in apps.

[HELP] Partiton SD in CWM Recovery V6

Hello!
As I can partition the microsd with CWM Recovery, if I get in paragraph advance, to partition the sd.
I want to increase the memory for the app using the microsd.
I have the V6 version of CWM Recovery v1.25 with KernelPanic
Thank you!
For Swap Use 0mb nd For SD-EXT Use 512mb (I Guess This Is More Than Enough For A Normal User)
After That Install S2E or Link2SD App From Play Store!
Move Ur Apps To SD-EXT Using One Of This App!
COPY ALL OF UR SD CARD DATA BEFORE MAKING A PARTITION! OR YUH WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA ON UR SD CARD!

Thanks, but do not let me partition the CWM Recovery V6. There goes that option and earlier, if there was in the ADVANCE menu -> Partition SD.
Now those options do not work out. Since then I can make the partitions?

Hello
I have no sd-ext partition because I could not make it from the CWM Recovery version 6. Since I do not get the option to partition the sd.
What I know is because at the CWM Recovery, it leaves the option to partition your sd and other Recovery as version 5, if it comes.

I downloaded the program and I partitioned the sd with ext4 and fat32
But I think the program did not recognize me Link2sd While ext4 partition because I see that now in the applications menu, the phone recognizes the ext4 as internal memory.
Since in the applications menu, I keep saying that the phone only has 350MB capacity.
What did u want then?u said u want to increase the partition for using apps.there should b 2 partition now.one is ptimary fat/fat32( below 4gb fat, over 4gb fat32) for external memory & other is primary ext partition for internal storage

Are you sure that in you SD card, the 1st partition is FAT32 and is set to primary & 2nd partition is EXT4 and also set to primary?
In applications menu, if the internal memory is recognized as EXT4, you may have formatted the 1st partition of your SD card as EXT4.
Try this tutorial : http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
In the tutorial, the 2nd partition is formatted as EXT2, try EXT4.

Ohh no data files not moving , it still internal memory , iam using link2sd with root it moving (lib, app, cach) only ...
up up
open link2sd -> click an app u want to move-> click move to sd -> press OK
or you can back it up using titanium backup
note: dont move widgets on ur sd also system app
As said earlier, link2SD won't move the data folder of the application to the SD card.
The "Move to SD" action moves the .apk file to the SD card (in /mnt/asec), but leaves the data folder and the dalvik cache (the name_of_the_app.dex which is in /data/dalvik cache).
The best way to free internal memory with Link2SD is to move the application in internal storage, then to link the .apk, the dalvik cache and the libraries to the 2nd partition of the SD card.
Example : an application has a 3Mb apk file, a 1Mb dalvik cache file and an 5 Mb data folder including 3Mb libraries.
All in internal storage : 9 Mb
Action "Move to SD card" : 3 Mb on the SD card (the .apk file), but 6Mb remain in internal storage (dalvik cache and data folder)
Action "link to 2nd partition" with everything checked (apk file, dalvik cache and libraries) : 3 + 1 + 3 = 7 Mb on the 2nd partition of the SD Card, 2Mb only in internal storage (the data folder without libraries).
To answer the first question of the thread : I don't know if it's possible to move the entire data folder to the SD card. I never found a way to do, it may not be allowed by the Android system.
Thanx all
