Face Unlock Enabled! + Quick Ref Guide - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Just saw that face unlocked is enabled on the Evolte
Lots of views of the settings screens from the Quick Ref Guide on the isn blog!

why wouldnt there be faceunlock? faceunlock is available on all ICS phones. i have faceunlock working on my EVO 3D right now.

Can't wait to try face unlock out! Gonna read through the guide on my lunch break.
Hope the Best Buy pre-orders are available before this weekend. I want to play around with my new phone on my 3-day vacation this weekend!

It's a great feature in stock ICS, but some manufacturer/carrier implementations (like the ones on Asus) disable it. It's less secure, but I like having the option.

I'm surprised it is less secure - to me that means it doesn't work well yet. If it worked perfectly well, it would be the most secure thing there is I would think!

im guessing he means less secure than an alpha/numeric password. Some have been able to easily trick the facial recognition with a picture, but i also remember them trying to implement some type of 3d recognition.. the last part i could be making up.....

That is the hole - you can get past the stock face unlock with a picture, so some manufacturers disable it. Samsung's version (does/will) require you to blink.
Can anyone confirm what happens on Sense 4?

Has Asus given a reason for the lack of Face Unlock on the Prime?
Our front facing cam is a high enough resolution, we have ICS, and from what I've read on these forums the files are on the device.
We've had multiple ICS updates. When properly configured it is a killer feature and great marketing tool.
Why have they not enabled it?
I wouldn't wait on Asus to do it. one of our developers will enable it soon enough.
I found that odd too.
But really, it's doesn't matter to me if it's there. I just wanted to see how well it works.
I don't even have the lockscreen enabled, it's not really necessary
Face unlock is fun. I used it on the Atrix, the Evo 3D, the Evo and a few GNex and Nexus S devices as well. It was fun in the way Siri is fun though (trust me, I hate Apple, not because I am a google fan boy, because they haven't been the greatest either, but Apple's business ethics and their use of proprietary, non-open source irks me, as well as their litigious nature, sorry I digress... I am also drunk, ha). Having an 4S at work to goof off with is fun, and Siri is neat... for a few days, and when you want to show it off... but that it, after awhile the little quirks get to you, such as "Sorry, dont recognize you!" then the pin coming up. It did this if the light was just a little different, even after tuning it (taking multiple pics, shaven, unshaven, sunglasses, hat, haircut, etc)
ASUS is being tsundere to the community.

From what I have read in reviews - yes you can.
I feel FU is really just a gimmick, not something I would use, but wouldnt mind being able to test it on my prime
Face unlock actually works pretty well on the Galaxy Nexus once it's been trained. I'm just wondering why Asus has not enabled it since it doesn't seem to be a technical issue and they went out of the way to use pretty decent cams on the Prime.

Yep, you can see videos done of it on the web. Even a video of a guy using a picture on his phone to unlock another phone. It is a totally hooky and worthless function really. Neat, but not really useful.

Speculation: The _real_ Google Wallet issue.

You'd think they'd have it fixed by now, right?
I wonder if the _real_ issue is all the borked Secure Elements that happened when we first got our hands on the EVO LTEs. Since they were all new, everyone returned them to get new, unborked phones. This had to cost Sprint and/or HTC quite a chunk of change.
So I wonder if they're keeping our EVO LTEs off of GW until they can figure out a way to avoid all the hosed hardware.
[Q] Does flashing a ROM on a different platform without first clearing GW _also_ bork the Secure Element or is it unique to us?

Not unique, AFAIK anyway.
Actually they didn't get too many from the Evo lte, from what I saw on this board. The Majority of bricks was from the Nexus.

Me too.
I meant everyone who borked their Secure Elements. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
Google likes to do stuff half assed and hardly give any support for their products. This doesn't surprise me at all and is just further evidence that Google wallet is done.
The secure element issue isn't a problem with EVO LTEs, its a problem with how Google Wallets security handles the secure element and refuses to use it if there is any indication of it being tampered with - which I am personally OK with, I prefer my money to remain mine.
I do wish it was a bit less sensitive - I mean how do they expect to push OTA updates? People don't follow instructions, they have to a way to do it in recovery or an update would bork hundreds of devices.
...borked

Operation Jetstream to a developer

Hi
so, we've got a proven developer, show-p1984, willing to help us get this device to the modern age.
all we need now is to get him a device.
our guy lives in Germany, so if there's a European user wanting to Part with his device - Let us know please!
if there isn't: we need to put the money together and get him a device.
the cheapest ebay device i've seen is 249$. to which we'll have to add 20% tax in Germany. this will get us to about 300$.
it seems to have free shipping.
all of us willing to put the money upfront - this is the current division between us:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkSenxSHUyy_dHZvSUhZbjczSk55bkEyd1dfYnBYNVE
i opened a Paypal account for this purpose. i will share the account Password with another forum member, for control purposes.
the shortest way to go is using the "Donate to me button" of my user. this will take you to donate to a user called "xda.jetstream".
the faster we all get the money in, the faster we'll get jb..
thanks.
3rd HUGE donation...3-4 more people and we're on our way!
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
You can get a brand new jetsream at all4cellular with the coupon code "A4C20" for $200!
this is what you call "too little too late"
the operation is finished and the device is on his way to our guy. usps are taking their sweet time on it..
I am sorry I missed this operation, but to provide an added incentive to the dev, I will be offering a $100 tip as soon a ROM the community is happy with is ready.
I will gladly pledge $ upon evidence of development.
I hope this isn't another project that gets dropped.
if everything goes as planned - we should be ok.
the device is still on its way to show_p1984. its super annoying, but DHL are the problem now...
show_p1984 gave me his word that in case he should fail, or something like that he will send the device to another developer, of our choice. all we got is his word, but i trust him and keeping in touch with him.
Update:
the device made it to our guy last week, after about 3 weeks of shipment.
unfortunately he got damaged during the shipment, and we're trying to get at least a partial refund. the damage is cosmetic and won't disturb with the developing, probably.
show_p1984 had some time to play with the device and decided that the most important thing required is JB. not the storage bug, not a proper 3.1 rom..he's going straight for JB ROM. this could take a while, i'll update here when something will happen.
thanks again to all the donators.

Glad to see that things are moving quickly.
Once we have a method for getting JB on to the Jetstream, will the developer produce a comprehensive how-to guide for all of us who have no experience with roms, rooting, etc.?
probably. if not them, the reset of the forum.
i have a feeling once proper ROM will available, more users will get here.

That is very great news indeed!
We still need to get a great developer on board, because as good as ShowP is with kernels, he is not a very good rom dev, I mean yes he can, but it will take a LOT of time for him, which I think is unnecessary.
chaos-z from the flyer forum once suggested helping..and i think some of the others here could probably port roms since its far easier than kernel development.
and finally, jmztaylor is also working on a rom for the jetstream. so i'm guessing we'll have two roms coming out about the same time.

What's the deal with the hands ons?

All the hands ons seem very similar due to what seems to be excessive limitations. This close to launch and Google seem to be being quite secretive considering they've already had their announcement - is it possible there are more surprises for the tablet and Lollipop being held back?

I also get that sense to lol, I personally think Google have instructed short and brief video reviews, And also have to be filmed within a restricted amount of time. So I guess will have to wait for the tablet to be fully released before we get an in depth review, by then for most reading this it will be to late because it will be already in our hands! [emoji12]

exactly, most of us here have pre-ordered based on specs and previous know how relating to the nexus program. The hands-on at the moment are just satisfying our enthusiasm for the device. For people already on the fence about the product, they wont generally pre-order anyway so the real hands on will be more crucial for them when time comes.
Its because its still running pre-release software and Google doesn't want the first batch of reviews/benchmarks to be based on an un-optimized OS giving the Nexus 9 a bad image before its launch.
Expect a software update right before the official release of the Nexus 9 followed by lifting of the embargo and a flood of benchmarks/reviews coming in.

None of the hands on seem to be showing how the device sounds like. With the boomsound speakers, i thought it would be one of the biggest selling points. I guess this is part of the limitations they impose on these jounalists. Also, it seems like none of them were signed on to a Google account or had any wifi connection so its not like they can just go to youtube and play a video.

It really is quite bizarre, Liam Spradlin on G+ said that they were "not allowed" to show anything in depth, there must be something held back (I hope).
Android central podcast on Fri said be patient, they will have reviews, and "without violating the embargo, except a couple of surprises.". We haven't seen everything yet apparently according to them.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
I am sure the reviews are being written/video'd right now, same as with previous releases.
And as before, most reviews will be released around "Something O'Clock" and a couple will come out a few hours early (Woops !).
And they may say "Review based on the final pre-release of Android, but not much is expected to change".
It's pretty simple why.
Google imposed the following limitations on videos :
Unboxing video : OK
Quick overview : OK
Device review : NO
The limitations are in place until the 12th November.
