I was on Booster Shot, did a backup in recovery, complete wipe and modified wipe, flashed Cool ICS ROM, wanted to go back, so I restore my backup from recovery, and now 4G (Wimax) is busted. It gets stuck at "obtaining IP address from Sprint" and goes no further. Any idea of how I can fix this?
Did you do a wipe before restoring your backup? Restoring a backup on top of a different Rom could cause issues like this. Try going into recovery and flash a super wipe like Chad's and then restore your backup.

I had that happen to me as well. I fixed it by entering ##3282# in the dialer, then going to edit mode (you'll need your msl). Then go in to WiMAX and reset the realm to sprintpcs.com. (even if it already says that, just re enter it). Then in the top right corner it sys save I think, or commit or something. Just make sure to save and commit. Then it should reboot. For me, 4g worked after that on more than one occasion. It's been happening after changing Roms.

Didn't try this, however, will do next time I want to do a full restore. However, I think the issue lies in what I mention below.

I finally fixed the issue after a clean wipe and fresh install of everything. However, according to what someone else suggested to me in another forum I posted this question as well to see if peeps there had an idea of what the issue was, it was mentioned issues in restoring data from an ODEX ROM to a DEODEX ROM, and vice versa I suppose, and this is what I did. Booster Shot is ODEX. Cool ICS is DEODEX. I'm sure that is where the problem fell.
Thank you both for your assistance. All is well now!

Odex to Deodex (and vice versa) data restores cause problems even using the same Rom if the dev changes from one to the other.

Hi,
I did a nandroid backup from one Note and use CW to restore it to another Note. Now my new Note is extremely slow and it reboots all the time. I tried doing a reset factory as well as use odin to reinstall the stock fw. I also install several different roms. I made sure I did a factory wipe and wipe cache each time. I also fix permission and follow the direction for each rom. Still having issues with the phone. Any help or point me in the right direction is a great help.
Thanks

You might want to try Darkside super wipe and just start fresh. If that goes well and the phone is stable, you can later use advanced restore to restore just your data. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567429Link confirming Darkside works for i717 and you can follow that link to the script or Google [TOOL]Darkside ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567429
Also, did you previously play around with the radio on your old Note? If so, than when you restore system from nandroid you are bringing back the old radio. A factory reset won't help with that. If all else fails, try to flash the original radio. Check Allgamer's thread for that.

Edit - Nevermind - I found a thread in Q&A section confirming it works.

I take it that it is confirmed that Darkside super wipe works on our Note?
I followed the quoted thread and compared the output of my "mount" command to the one from Skyrocket, and it is very similar but not the same. So it would be great to know if someone had tried the script on the Note, and what changes had to be made to the script (if any) prior to running it.
I took the backup from my wifes note and used it on mine. Reset and its working just fine

Hi to all.. I have been mentioning this in several ROM's threads, but none answerd.
I'm writing this to find if anybody else experiencing the same issue...
Since I have been flashing ICS ROMs, my front facing camera stopped working..
Before that on GB, even with Amaze camera it worked perfectly, now it just freezes the camera app, and nothing happens...
I'm missing it because of video calls.
Can anybody suggest any solution?
gosh do u know why we have "Q&A section" as a subforum?
Sorry, if anybody can move it, do it...
But it's just ROM development related issue, so placing it here is not such a nonsense...
I've read somewhere, that it can be kernel - based issue, but one of my friends who has also EVO has no problems with that...

no, this is your issue, it has nothing to do with rom development. You probably just forgot to wipe cache and ended up using parts of an old kernel.
You can either start a thread in Q&A section, or ask the question in the thread of the ROM you are using

That's not possible, cache wiping won't remove kernel modules...
Did you try to run fix permissions? full wipe? do that, then it might work.
I did full wipe almost everytime before flash...
Now I did fix permissions and no change..
Any other ideas? What about full format?

+1 to this. As a test, I suggest you do a full super wipe and then flash a GB Rom like Mean Rom 4.2. If it works then, then rewipe and flash a sense based ics Rom and test again. You will then have your answer as to if it is ics or not.

What about the baseband? Should I revert the older firmware too???
Ive allready done that, reverted back to the MikRunny, it did not function...
But there was the Anthrax kernel, so might will try the Mean Rom...
I have flashed many ics roms fully wiping each time and have no issues with ffc

Always:
List your HBOOT version and "S" status. If you did, ok. But, I didn't catch it.
Also, list what steps you have taken.
VERY first thing:
1) Wipe cache, dalvik, factory reset, and flash modified superwipe (I've done this and in doing so have had no flashing issues. All my issues were because of something I missed or messed up).
2) Have you tried going back to a GB ROM? If so, how? Did you do a restore or a clean wipe and flash?
3) If you did a restore, did you do a complete wipe as stated in #1?
4) After flashing an ICS ROM, were you trying to restore any data from a previous ROM, whether GB or ICS?
5) If trying to restore data from a GB ROM, it will bork your ICS like it did for me, regardless of the ICS ROM.
6) If trying to restore data from an ODEX ROM to a DEODEX ROM, or vice versa, it will bork stuff.
Just let us know what was done and that will eliminate a lot of repeated suggestions.
EDIT: I'm running Booster Shot ICS with no issues or force closes. I've easily flashed my phone to different things over 50 times. Completely wiping everything like I stated in #1 has always worked for me and prevented issues in coming from a different ROM. Sometimes if you skip a wipe, it will leave remnants of the previous ROM (from what I was told and it has seemed to prove true in my cases).
wipe
sounds like a wipe issue. I've used several ICS roms with no issues.. Try SuperWipe by mikey and see if that helps. Also, not all recoveries will propperly install all ROMs, I'm using 4ext right now and seems to work well
Gotta Learn the proper wiping techniques.... Only fold it twice...

Yesterday, my copy and paste functionality stopped working in all apps. I'm able to select text and press the copy button, but whenever I try to long press and paste the text, I either get a popup that says "clipboard" or nothing happens. In Chrome, even attempting to copy something causes the application to freeze. Rebooting and clearing dalvik cache does not help. I'm running stock ROM, rooted, latest update. Is this happening to anyone else?
I found a couple of other threads where this happened to other people on other devices running ICS, but their solution was to either install a new ROM or do a hard reset. I'm hoping there's an easier solution than that. Here are the other threads:

I have flashed a few mods on top of the root66 image.
1. stock Samsung boot image: http://www.mediafire.com/?m6urrypvx2c156p
2. Wifi toggle: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775235
3. Sound mod to remove boot/camera sound: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27741216&postcount=54
Just to see if I could figure out this issue I flashed the original stock image, then performed a factory reset. Problem solved at that point, as expected. I then re-flashed the root66 image, and tested copy/paste at that point with no issues. I'm going to go through flashing those individual mods and see if I can figure out where it might be breaking.

Thanks. Let me know if any of the mods break it again. The only thing I did recently that was out of the ordinary was run a voodoo report. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.
I've had the same issue also. I remember it was working fine for awhile and then it stopped working. When i have time tonight, I might do a factory reset to see if it fixes it.
You might want to look into what apps you have installed. I wouldn't doubt there's some app conflict that's causing all of this.

Doesn't look like any of those mods broke it. A couple of things I forgot to mention I had originally done:
- Performed the SQLite Editor change to get rid of the persistent Wifi notification
- Used Any Cut to disable the annoying Wifi popup when certain apps were open
- Flashed beans rom for the extra Dropbox space and then flashed back to root66
It's a fair amount of work to get this fixed, especially depending on how customized you've gotten, but I can verify that a factory reset will fix this. At this point I have re-flashed everything minus the beans rom and loaded up all my original apps with data, and copy/paste is working like a champ. If you're motivated enough to do it I would recommend backing up everything with Titanium and doing the factory reset.
Also, it's highly likely that flashing back to stock is unnecessary. You should be able to do the factory reset on root66. Again, do a recovery backup and a full TiBu backup just to be safe. Good luck!

I'm having the same problem and I'm running stock and I'm not rooted.
I have my Evo 3D and I decided I wanted to flash a ROM on it.
Basically I rooted it and went to flash a ROM on it, and ended up deleting the dalvik cache and cache.
The bad part is, I forgot (like a complete idiot) to do a Nandroid backup.
Is there any way to come back from this?
you could just run an RUU and get back to stock.
btw what problem do you have while flashing new roms?
deleting the dalvick cache and cache dousnt matter, it automatically creates it.
If you haven´t backup up your previous rom, then you cant recover it... that´s why it´s called a backup..
So whats the problem?
I think i read it wrong. do you mean you want to restore your previous stock rom + data? if so its not possible to restore the data without a nandroid.

That works even though I can only see the bootloader screen / TWRP recovery screen.?
And my problem was that I had an error while trying to flash room. I might have done it wrong.
But I just want my phone to work. I dont need my apps or contacts etc
.
Not sure what the problem is either. If you delete the dalvik turn the phone back on and it automatically recreates it. No problems what so ever.
It sounds like you flashed or tried to flash a ROM without doing a full wipe. However I'm not sure.
Perhaps you could tell us in more detail the problem and what you would like to do and we can help ya..

I know that you are trying to help, but all I wanted to know was how to make it back to normal. But seeing as I did it incorrectly, I could really use the help.
I did not do a Nandroid backup.
What I did was try to flash the rom without wiping my phone, like you said.
Then I selected the option of clearing both cache and dalvick cache.
Then tried flashing rom again. Did not work.
I am sorry I cant recall what the error was when doing it, but I will let you know when I try again in a second (if it doesnt work this time.) [ I also found a different tutorial and would like to give it a try.
There isn't a way to get back to the same state your phone was in before wiping it since you did not do a backup. If you are gsm then find the gsm RUU. If CDMA then find the CDMA version. That will get you back to the stock version but it will be as if you just turned it on for the first time ever.
It would be easier to just download a different ROM and put it on your SD card then flash it. Although it won't be stock...
But before doing any of that just boot recovery and do a full wipe. Then reflash the ROM you were trying to install.
I got back to stock with RUU. Then I figured out how to successfully back up and flash my phone with different roms.
Thank you for all your help.
Good luck in your flashing endeavours! Its addicting.

I tried the wire trick. Couldn't get it to work. Maybe because I used speaker wire which isnt a sold wire but strands. Do you think that makes a difference?
As long as there is a connection all the way through, no. Keep in mind i tried 20 times or so, you have to get the timing right.
Take another look at the demo vid and try again, if you're not sure about the wire, use a paperclip with some tape around it. (tape is important, you don't want your skin to touch the metal)

I did the wire trick about a week or two ago and I couldnt time it just right so I just continuously tapped the SD card metal holder dealio with the paperclip about every second and it worked the fourth or fifth try.

Not sure what went wrong, but I've just had to use flashtool. I decided to flash one of the stock roms available. I don't feel any of what resulted was fault of the Rom so I won't specify. I made another backup of my tweaked Rom, and wiped as instructed and installed. Everything flashed ok but the Rom was a little buggy so I decided to restore my tweaked backup. Rebooted to reovery, wiped then selected which backup to restore. In short, the backup was showing no partitions available to restore and wouldn't work. So, I chose my original backup of stock and that showed everything so I restored. From there, the backup said complete so I rebooted. I ended up with the flashing red and blue led and could only boot to twrp. I tried to reflash the Rom zip but it failed to open. So here I am after using flashtool, which was an adventure as well. I'm curious if anyone else at all has had a similar experience? Is it possible my twrp was corrupt in some way?

Had you ever tried to restore you backups prior? Just to make sure you had a good backup.
Did you use compression in TWRP? It's been an issue in the past. At least with the OG it was.
I have no other ideas. Sorry you had to go through that. But at least you got it fixed.

Is this after Flashtool? The only way I know of to get it back is ##RTN#. And you'll need your MSL.
You shouldn't have Wi-Fi calling either then. That's the clincher.
Be safe and backup your EFS first though.

To be safe, boot into recovery and try to restore your backup. If you don't see the partitions listed, then it's probably compression.

You should always wipe first IMO. There's always ghosts in the machine. It's just an added measure to give you a clean restore/flash. Most people that have issues with roms don't wipe, and dirty flash/restore.
I've never had an issue wiping all 4. And compression just seems to never work right. At least with all the G series.

If you wipe all four and your twrp isn't on your external SD card you're screwed if you want to restore.
I always wipe when installing roms, just not restoring. Habit from using phones without ext.
I also thought I saw a wipe script built into the restore option.
I called Sprint today to get my MSL. I needed to use the ##RTN# code to get the WiFi calling app and the other stuff back after flashtool. They had me do a factory reset first to see if that would do it but then gave me my MSL without question.
Thanks again for all the info learned in this thread. I finally got around to re-rooting and re-bumping and all were smooth and easy.

I only had a problem with compression once on my OG for the rest of the time it worked fine and was a necessity because it had no external storage but anyway i just checked the compressed backup i made and the partitions show up under restore, but i havent tried it yet because i have no reason to. maybe when aosp comes out
