I am trying to figure out how to create a custom car dock for my phone. I'm pretty sure it uses either a rfid or more likely magnet to trigger something in the phone to swap to car dock app. Can anyone confirm this or have a way to create something like this.
Edit I tore apart my old droid x car dock and found what looks like a magnet now just trying to find where that should be to match phone I hope
I suspect it uses the "extra" (5th) ID pin on the micro-USB port to indicate a car dock attachment.
I know that the Droid X did use a magnet and had nothing to do with the plug. Does anyone have a Thunderbolt car dock they aren't using that could tear it apart and see if it has a magnet?
Yes, it was a magnet that would activate it for the Droid X. That is NOT the case with the thunderbolt, magnets have nothing to do with it. It has something to do with the charging port when it is plugged into the dock. If you are trying to rig something up yourself then your best bet might be using "Tasker" to create a profile that allows car home to open under certain conditions.

Well in that case I'm forgoing 4G and unlocked boot loader for my car dock. jk thanks for the info.
Has anyone picked it up or seen it (Not even sure Verizon has it) wondering if it adds thickness to the phone.

I was under the impression from the FCC images that the stock door had wireless charging abilities built in... Anyone know this for sure to be true?

I am sure that the phone already has the capability built in to the stock battery cover. I just wonder if the extended battery caver will have the same capability.
I did see on the Verizon site that the wireless charging pad is available. The cost is $69.99. Here is a link to the site.
I don't believe it does, there are a couple reviews where they tried different mats and no go.
Yeah it has been shown that it doesn't have wireless charging built in. Unless you need a special pad. Would wireless charging work through an otterbox case?

Links to said reviews?
I heard it was for the antenna. I think the Thunderbolt had sorta the same back.

I was under the impression all of the crap on the cover was for wireless charging, according to FCC documents. Why it won't work though with wireless mats, who knows.

I can tell you this, my HTC rep told us it is an inductive back stock, but it is not. I have inductive backs in my inventory room for it and I have tried it on our mats without and it doesn't work. All the connections you guys see are for the antenna, just like in the Thunderbolt.
You have inductive backs for the rezound? Do they add bulk?

Does not seem to make the phone thicker but from the pics on this website it removes the Verizon 4G LTE logo and the Beats Audio logo as well.

THE BATTERY DOOR THAT COME WITH THE HTC REZOUND STOCK DOES NOT HAVE WIRELESS CHARGING BUILT IN!
Tested and disappointed.
im more interested in whether the inductive charging works with a case on like the otterbox commuter
what about wireless charging on a PowerMat? or do you have to buy the mat from HTC?
Called HTC - The stock back DOES NOT support Wireless Charging
So, in the most effective manner possible (aside from watching videos stating that the included back didn't work for wireless charging, of course) a quick call to HTC support verifies that the included back on the HTC Rezound does not support wireless inductive charging. You will have to purchase another back.
The only one I've found so far is the same one mentioned earlier in the thread over at shop HTCPedia.com

Bought the extended battery at the same time as the phone, tested- it does not support wireless charging.
HTC6245-WLDR is the Verizon part number
Looks like the "Wireless Charging Cover" for the Rezound is up on Verizon's site...

I guess it only works with this pad? Not sure: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessory?action=accessoryDetails&accessoryId=47605

Yeah I thought it looked kinda big too. Dunno.
I purchased the 89529N Motorola Navigation dock and for some reason it's not recognizing my Droid Razr.
I watched several videos on youtube and it showed the Razr entering car mode as soon as placed into the dock and the sliding micro-USB plug inserted.
While my droid recognizes that it's charging, it doesn't enter Car Mode, does not launch the Motorola Car Finder app upon removal nor does it output audio via the USB-Audio Cable.
I've spent some time looking to see if other people are having this issue and the only other report I've found is a review on the product via Amazon:
amazon.com/Motorola-89525N-Vehicle-Navigation-Charger/product-reviews/B005W8NLG0/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addOneStar
I have now gone through 3 of these docking stations. I WANT it to work but after the phone snaps into the mount (nicely managed) there is a squared black slider that has the male USB end that is supposed to slide into the top of the phone's USB port. This connection was flaky in the first two units i purchased and i ended up needing to slide a business card in behind the phone to put enough pressure to cause the phone Car App to start and for the port to think it had a power cable inserted...
The business card approach finally quit working this morning (11.21.2011) so I took the unit into a local Verizon Store and showed them. This happened with 3 RAZR phones from the store so it was not the phone. I then ended up going through 3 of the car dock boxes and the first two ALSO had this problem. The third unit worked but i had to push the black slider back a tad to put some positive pressure on it before it will slide into the phones USB port...
I need this thing to work. I want the Car Nav App to start and for the phone to charge... Verizon, you need to take a look at the design of this device. The quality of it seems fine. It is sturdy and mounts wonderfully but the slider idea seems to be a problem.

So, does anyone else with this dock have the same problem?
I had the same issue with mine. It worked for the first few days then it tanked. Returned to Verizon for another unit. This one has been working for the past.
Check the RAZR forums on the Motorola support site and there are several other folks that have been experiencing the same issue.
No problems at all with the car dock. I use it daily and it has always worked as advertised.
How long is the power cable the comes with the version of the car dock that comes with a power cable?
If it's not super long I may just buy the cheaper version of the dock.
I had the same problems with my first dock. I returned it and got another and so far so good. A couple of times it's failed to recognize the phone, but sliding out the usb and putting it back usually fixes it.
I bought the car dock and so far it works perfect. I drove about 1100 miles over the holidays, and it worked perfectly the entire trip with a CHEAP generic micro USB cable and CHEAP generic car charger from monoprice.com Phone was running GPS and nav the whole time and I was impressed that it never got hot or too warm (just EVER SO SLIGHTLY warm. My old HTC Incredible would get hot as hell running GPS for several hours)

I did have the problem when I first received the dock. After studying the dock I realized the bottom plate can be removed. I did just that and the holder works great. Can even use it with the protection case.
I've also had my car dock for some time now and have been using it with a commuter series OtterBox. I've seen no problems with it, in fact while running Google navigation since the new update I've not seen any substantial overheating issues at all. Overall I'm very pleased with its operation. It is a little disconcerting to hear several of you have had problems with it.
I have not had any issues with this dock. The HD dock, yes but so far I love this navigation dock over the one my Thunderbolt and Original Moto Droid had. However, where do you people find this USB/Audio cable? I purchased the mount right from verizon and it did not come with it. Can't seem to find the cable anywhere either.
h1p1n3: http://www.store.motorola.com/dp/B005NDKQ3K
It doesn't have a picture and the description makes it sound like a basic usb cable that's really expensive, but I ordered it for the same reason you are and I can assure you that it is a basic USB cable that's really expensive... with the audio dongle on the end. At $20 it's a bit of a rip-off, but it's what you need.
mine works like a champ, it gets used on a daily basis.

I just bought the car dock, is there a way to setup a alternative navigation app?
I want to use Sygic instead of Google Maps. Anyone?

You can add an app of your choice on the "Music" page of the Navigation app.
Thanks found it! i hope Moto will update the Car Dock so you can choose your own software
I don't have my Razr yet to test this, but try the Car Home Ultra app. It's fully customizable and can be launched by the dock.

I've had my car dock now for about a month, and it works like a charm for me. Car Home Ultra is a great app and you can add a bunch of different apps to it's home screen so you can set it up the way you want.
I have 2 car docks it use to work on both now it doesn't work on either of them, ever since i re flashed using 9.8.2O-124_SPUL-18_Rogers_P005_A006_S1FF_fb_CFC.xml.

I was looking into Kickstarter today and noticed a few wireless charging kits.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...r-free-positioning-wireless-char?ref=category
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/902270902/flexible-wireless-charger?ref=category
And I was wondering if anyone figured out a way to have this phone Wireless Charge. Also we use keycards at work for our doors and such and I was wondering if I put the copper cable circle under the top back cover would it mess up the radio connections? Anyone tried either have they worked?
Or does anyone know of a Wireless charging "case" I used the PowerMat for the og EVO but that's not an option for the EVO LTE

I did the wireless charging mod for the HTC Evo 4G. I looked it up for this phone but I haven't done it yet. When I did the mod to my other phone, there was no noticeable difference in signal quality, battery life, or compass use.

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a car dock for my Nexus 6 similar to the pro clip or this fix2car mount http://www.holdersandmounts.co.uk/f...on-mount-dash-mount-with-usb-car-charger.html[1]
Basically my criteria are that I want to be able to take the phone in and out of the mount without having to attach the USB cable after. I want the USB cable to be fixed and the phone simply slides in to it.
The pro clip would cost me 150$+ and the fix2car one I linked would run me close to 70$. I'm looking for something about half that price.
Hope you guys can help!
Thanks
0 replies on XDA and on reddit, something tells me i'm about to drop a hundred bucks on a car mount... AGAIN!
PSA to anyone thinking about it: DO NOT get the airdock 2, it's a piece of poop and the phone falls off constantly.
If you must have the fixed plug, you could hack one in place with some JB Weld. A lot of guys did just that back in the "old" days.
Or suguru, that stuff works great for something like this. BTW, my airdock works great.

If you would like to charge your phone in a car dock without having to attach USB each time why don't you get the QI charging dock? It is about $35-$40 here in US, probably about same in UK. And will work with non-bulky case.

welllllllll the reason why im trying to avoid a QI charging dock (which btw is not a make or model but the technology, can you specify which model you're referring to?) is because i bought this neato quick charge usb lighter thingy and i'd like to be able to use quick charge..... wireless QI charging is pretty slow and when having the screen on, and steaming music, and using maps for nav, it doesn't actually gain any charge!

Well, I am doing the same, streaming and navigating, with Nexus 6 in the dock, using 2.1A USB lighter thingy and it charges.
I am also aware QI is a technology and not a model. There are quite few of those. I am using this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N4H1R1M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01

the problem is that QI will bottleneck your charging. using a quickcharge usb lighter thing will work via a cable but not through QI!
QI will support up to 15 watts of charging in the future, it was actually announced like a couple of weeks ago or something, so future models will support quick charging
I have quick charger at work and at home. In the car I need the dock I can use with minimum effort and without connecting/disconnecting USB frequently

Curious to know if you got the holder yet?
From the pictures on the site, it appears that one of the claws on the top lands directly on the power and/or volume buttons.
Would like to know if it interferes with proper operation?

it can if you have it completely tightened down, but you would not be able to pull the phone in and out if it was tightened down. the way i have it now is the clamp holds on to the lip of the phone but not so tightly that I can't easily put the phone in and out of the dock. The clamp does not press on the buttons, this way.
