That would be awesome, you could have a wifi router everywhere with you (as long as you don't forget to take the usb cable with you), just connect with the usb to a PC that has broadband, and then use the phone's wifi as a dongle.
I am currently in a situation that i would use something like that seeing that i have forgotten my dongle at home.
phone tether
There are a couple of different ways to tether your phone to your pc. One way is to use an app called PDA net, you can get your phone and computer setup through their website in about 2-3 minutes, super easy to use and you don't need to root your phone, the down side is unless you pay for the pro version all "https", secure sites, will only be accessible for a week. If you decide to root or have already rooted, you can download a number of different apps that give you the ability to use your phone as a hot spot without paying monthly to your provider.

=> use this app called FoxFi..its not on the google store..download it from internet..with this u can use the connection to tether via bluetooth in all devices..though, wi-fi routing works only in few..if it doesnt work..then first try this app to reverse tether(Reverse Tether build.2012.04.05.paid - torrents) and then use FoxFi..reply if it works or not..
AT&T detected my foxfi tethering and will now charge me for a 5g tethering package if I continue to use it. Greedy.... What does it matter if I tether? Bunch if nazis...

Is it possible to access the net using the USB cable and go to the android market? I don't have wifi/gprs enabled on the phone.
I think it only works the other way around, meaning you can access the internets from your computer using the phones modem. If your computer has a wireless adapter you can download connectify (free) and turn it into a wifi hotspot, works for me!

I got what you said, but i still want to know if there is a way without using wifi or paying the mobile service a large sum of money for net access.
You could always look for the APK's online (find the app you want, google appname apk) and just copy it over.
as the title suggests i was wondering if the xperia x10 could be used as a wireless adapter to connect my non wireless pc to my home wireless network.
I already use pdanet but i'm having to lower my contract and will probably loose my unlimited internet ( I was one of the last to get it before O2 changed there terms) and this will cost way to much
edit: i am currently running freex10 beta 3 if that is of any use to know
Pdanet supports wifi access point only via USB. So you could connect to it with the client installed and your usb cable.
Barnacle which does wifi hotspot but doesn't allow regular wifi running at the same time. Data must come from the data services on your carrier.
The native android wifi hotspot function requires an update to the kernel which we cannot have until the bootloader is cracked.

I too am curious about this. I don't need to be using the wifi in and out at the same time just be pulling wifi and outputting use of it through USB. If you already answered a way to do this then please point to the program to use.

PDANet does this, you put the app on the phone, and a client app on the PC and it can use either Wifi or Edge/GSM/HSUPA. This is a mature app and it is sold for all platforms, iOS, Blackberry, Palm, Windows Mobile and Android. it claims to handle speeds up to 35mb. Normally it's $24. It's on sale for $16. The 'free' version has no exclusions except it won't connect to secure web sites. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pdanet
EasyTether Lite can also be connected as a wifi ap. It's $9.99 and there is a trial version

Hello Everyone! I want to use my Laptop's internet connection via usb cable using my Dell Streak. So I searched for an app that will enable me to do that. While I'm searching and reading all the stuffs that I think that will be the answer to my question, I stumbled upon the word Tether/Tethering.
In which will enable your computer/Laptop to use your Mobile Device's Internet plan or 3g connection. However, what I really wanted was the reverse of this process. I want to use my Laptop's Internet connection. From my laptop connection through USB? or Bluetooth, then to my Dell Streak. So I can surf the Internet using my Mobile device.
I searched the forums already and learned that the latest post for this topic was last 2008. I hope there is already a solution to do this.
Everyone, If you know any apps that I can use please do tell me. Thank you very much!
there aren't any that I know of plus I think it would need to be computer prog not android
There are guides to do it in linux but you need to do it manually I think.

You'll be needing to set up a local network via the wireless connection on your PC.
If you are already on the internet via wifi on the PC, why not use the wifi on the streak?
If you are hooked up via Ethernet/other cable, then broadcasting the connection on the PC's wifi is fairly simple.
Hope this helps.

he wants to do it via usb or bluetooth..
I was able to do this with Linux, but it was a pain and some programs couldn't access the internet. I think only the browser worked.
Would be difficult with usb.It might be easier if you use bluetooth or wifi.
Just go ahead and setup your ad-hoc network or soft-ap on your pc,and make sure you have inter access sharing service or similar software running.
I would recommend you use a wifi soft-ap,it's super easy to setup on winxp/2k/2k3.

hi...i usually connect my lg optimus 2x to PC with USB and use computer's internet connection (reverse USB teethering). but i want to know if its possible to force telephone that it thinks that it is connected to wi-fi, while using 3g data connection. i want use that especially when games want to download data over the wifi...
If your device is rooted, you could get a wireless hotspot app from the market, start the hotspot on your phone, then connect to it (connect your device to itself ).
I don't think you can connect to your own hotspot.

tried but its not working..i think that androids dont support wifi multitasking like iphones do,so they cant receiving and teethering connection at the same time..

The iPhone does support wifi tethering (not trying to defend it though ).

Actually you can. I've said that before to other people who wanted to download gameloft data and for some other purposes which require wifi, and it worked.
I want to do this too.... but the Mobile Hotspot app on my phone turns off WiFi if it is one, and if I turn on Wifi while Mobile Hotpsot is on, it disables the Hotspot.
Any other solution ? An app maybe ? A tweak ?
what wifi hotspot app was used?.. and to the OP, how did you reverse tether via usb?

How? I've been searching for a workaround to this for some time now.
Please tell me how...
I have a rooted Bionic, Eclipse ICS 4.0.4. I use FoxFi Full version for my hotspot. I need my phone to connect to the mobile hotspot it's currently transmitting. (I think that's what I need)
Why? I want an advanced ability to monitor who is using my mobile hotspot, using DroidSheep to monitor what they're using the connection for. Trouble is, DroidSheep (And al similar programs) only work if the phone (with the app) is actually connected to the wifi network. It won't work if it's the one transmitting the signal.

You just have one wifi Modul it can be a hot spot or it can be connected to a Router.
Both together isn't possible.
Else you could also use it as wifi repeater

The questions are:
1. Can I access webtop on my laptop if I connect to the phone via usb or bluetooth?
2. Can I tether my computer to the phone via the bluetooth or usb cable?
This might seems redundant but I dont seem to find the answer to this. Can you access webtop via a laptop when you connect the phone with an usb cable? The reason I ask is because sometimes I would like to browse the net while Im at work and that would be the easiest way to actually do using the laptop screen and a external mouse/keyboard. I dont really want to just buy a monitor to take to the office.
Also, is my understanding that the atrix also works like a hotspot that will provide wifi access via the phone data connection. While that is great for most of the times that will not work when I am working with a virtual computer and I dont want to share the main pc connection. With my blackberry I just use the usb connection to tether the virtual pc and that way whatever internet use I do on the virtual computer does not flow via the corporate network.

1.) Maybe the "Motorola Phone Portal" app that came on the phone would work for what you want?.
2.) yes and yes. For wifi or bt use the "Wifi Tether" app, formerly "Wireless Tether". For USB use the "Wired Tether" app. You can find both with a quick google search, not in the market.
It dont seems that the motorola phone portal will do what I want which is using the laptop to browse the phone browser. I hate to tether specially since it seems AT&T is cracking on that but it seems is the only way to use my phone to browse the net on a larger screen. Eihter that or buying another monitor....
If you use the above apps you will not get caught tethering, I speak from experience. It's the custom APNs that are likely to get you in trouble.
