I downloaded the stock firmware from samfirmware.com and the file includes a bootloader. I'm hesitant about using the bootloader so please enlighten me if I can flash the 3 files without using the bootloader as this may hardbrick the phone. Thnks for the quick reply.
Are you going from 2.2 to 2.3 or from 2.3 to 2.3??

Cooper.ops file is must for odin. I guess it's for bootloader or phone model identity.

Why do you want to take risk ?
If you are going from 2.2 to 2.3 include all the files, as the bootloaders for froyo and gingerbread are different.

Is it 0000000....? If so, you need to go completely stock and lie to service centre
Also stock rom doesnt boot from a backup unless you use cf root kernel. Backup your apps with titanium backup and reflash a stock rom on odin. Find gt-s5830 firmware on sam mobile. Then flash on cf-root. You can now restore and back up that version of stock firmware (delete the old one)

This would be handy for the day I get the device to test everything, before I install CF-Root, in case I have to RMA due to a production error.

Hey I'm Australian and own an S3.. I'm sick of Vodafone update strategy.. I want to root, what do you think?
Sent from my GT-I9300T using Tapatalk 2
Ye root it, i rooted it too, except i think i need a replacement cause my phone has a problem.
Rooting could do lots of stuff.
If you ain't that good with computers and you don't want to stress yourself finding stuffs and working on it, don't do it cause it can risk your phone and might not brick.
Otherwise it's great to root
I've had the GNex.. I just hope it's as easy. Vodafone seriously piss me off..
I think Im Gonna root it.. just regret I didn't do that the moment I got it.. cause I seriously can't be stuffed going through the whole set up process again..

Yes. But you'll be able to do so with root too...
Many people confuse the two, so just to clarify:
Rooting means having a tiny modification in the phone's operating system so it doesn't restrict you from superuser commands. This will not affect your installed data or ability to upgrade.
Custom Roms is replacing the stock rom with a new operating system package someone else built which may or may not largely differ from Samsung's own version.

I just want an official non branded ROM .so I can get the latest updates without carrier delays .
Sent from my GT-I9300T using Tapatalk 2
There are always delays, whether carrier-, region-, or whatever-related.
You can flash the newer Rom's through Odin tough (again: the flashcounter does not increase with original ROM's) to get it as soon as the file is released.
Unbranded S1's had to wait several months for Froyo update over here...
Where can I find the latest official firmware?
Also since I'm in Australia.. does it matter what region firmware I update to? Say.. can I update to an European based firmware?

I am running Gingerbread 2.3.6 XWKI1 on my GT-I9100. I don't like the overscroll glow, hence I want to downgrade to 2.3.4 for the bounce effect and better battery. I do not want to root my phone, just wanna flash using ODIN(already done with other firmware before...so i know how to use it). I have already searched the forums for an INDIAN 2.3.4 and looked in the Official Firmware thread, but I'm unable to find it. Can someone please give me a link to the official Indian 2.3.4 firmware? Again, no custom FW as I don't wanna root.
Thanks!

Yep. It was.
If that link is dead then you should go to a SC and ask them to flash your phone KF3.
KF3 is pretty old and it is a slim chance that anyone would still have it. And it was buggy, way buggier than KL1. KL1 is one of the most stable GB there is.
Unfortunately, Google is your best friend now.
