I am currently rooted and enjoying my current rom. I have been seeing a lot of s-off supported roms and want to switch over. these are my questions.
I am on vigor pvt s-on. I want to go to s-off. how should I begins this process?
What is the main difference between having s-on and s-off.
any answers and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Don't worry, the wire trick isn't difficult, you just have to have the timing right.
S-OFF allows you to do quite a few nice things
- Install Kernels via recovery, at the same time as the ROM
- Flash an RUU without relocking the bootloader first
- Nandroid backups will include the kernel
- You can revert to older stuff with no issues.
Basically you gain a lot.

I agree. There are several threads covering this and a search would have turned up the answer in no time flat but I like how nobody jumped in and flamed him and just answered his question. Sometimes its nice to just have someone actually tell YOU. We need more people like Nic on here

If you had to post a new thread to ask that, it means you haven't done ANY reading of the forum threads.
The search button is your friend, but hardly necessary in your case. A few seconds of perusal would have given you the answer to your question.
Also to answer your question, progress has been made but its not achieved yet, at least not at a safe to release stage.

S-off would be a great Christmas gift. This is still a good device without it.
We will get it. Don't worry. As ive pointed out many times before.. the dinc took over 2 months. The thunderbolt took a while. Even the EVO 3d, htc sensation and htc shooter have not gotten soff yet.
I'd this phone doesn't get soff at some point in the next few months is be willing to pay everyone in this thread a dollar

Sensitivity isnt a good look btw.
I get people liking their phone but insulting someone is just plain emotional.
I would just like to say thank you to those people who are working on it. Be patient and enjoy the phone you just bought or go back to the phone you came from. Patience is a virtue. Good things come to those who wait.

Hey guys, I'm trying to root my new EVO 3d with revolutionary but it doesn't support 1.50.0 only 1.40.0. Is there a new way or can someone point me in the right direction please. Maybe there's a way other than revolutionary? Thanks, I'm still learning here ......

okay so read the hboot 1.5 thread which is made already but only way for now is you need to unlock your phone through htc then thats it the thread will tell you the rest. btw dont forget to thank me for being the nice one to post you this.

Actually it think that may of been a dumb Queston considering you needed it for custom roms on the g2.

You don't need s=off... The ota updated your radio for you. U just need a custom recovery and root.

If you use 4EXT recovery, you can flash almost anything without s-off. And I hope you get better as well mate.

That will work, or just fastboot flash recovery. From there you can flash superuser.zip and custom roms.

nm...i was able to find and flash with success...so that means now that I have root and custom recovery I can flash roms like I did on my g2 correct?

yeah when link broke he posted a new link then it didnt work i was running it up rtill 2 weeks ago and it was great on battery
and rms does not have it i asked him first he lost the booting and functional one
When I get to work tomorrow ill see if I still have it in my work computer

I agree. I'm not gonna lie. However, some people know more than others. We need to give them an incentive.
For example, a regular doctor can do some much before he refers you to a specialist. The specialist charges more for what you need.

You have to HTC dev unlock your phone. Then flash a recovery via fastboot (or goo manager) and then flash SU. Look in the development thread. Think there is a sticky.

For real, you 2 got me through this.
Tilltheend714 helped from the beginning and understood I wasn't very educated in this, and you pointed out many things that were vital to my success (such as realizing I was still on 3.15).
