Titanium Headache - HTC Rezound

Titanium has been giving me problems for awhile. I haven't flashed anything for a couple months so it hasn't been a big deal, but today when I upgraded the firmware and wound up with some "issues", I really needed to be able to let Titanium do its thing and restore my stuff back like usual. No go.
I'm talking with the TB development people, but in case any of you masters out there have run across this, I thought I'd share.
After a new flash, TB doesn't access my backups. It sees them; they are all crossed out and the summary says I have none to restore. I can tap one and it opens up, but all of the boxes are grayed out. (See pic). Then, if I re-download the app from the store and install it, TB will access it and allow me to restore data only.
So in order to "restore" my apps, I have to download them one at a time from the market first. Any ideas?

I'd force close TB, move the files to a new folder, configure TB to use the new folder

I had the same problem. I created a new file on the ext_sd and changed the backup folder location in preferences and it magically worked. It wouldn't work on the internal sd for some reason

Thanks, guys, tried both of those already: no dice.

Are you going from ICS back to gingerbread? if so it won't work as ICS will "optimize" all of your apps.

Maybe the backup is too old? Dont know if that's possible. Also, check to see if the app has superuser permissions

I use astro file manger it works much better than titanium backup plus it doubles as a file manager and an application backup and restore application .... and I have swapped between gb and ICS with no issues multiple times

I love titanium. But I do have my backup folder on my SD card because ROM flashes wipe the internal one. My apps will be all crossed out and junk until I direct it to the new folder.

Strange, I have never had a ROM flash wipe my internal sd card. That's where my TiB backups are stored. The only time it got wiped was from the s-off procedure and a radio update.

Personally, even though I paid for Titanium BU Pro a few years ago I don't even bother installing it anymore.
All I use now is AppMonster Pro & I never get the errors/FC's etc. that TBU users experience on a regular basis......

Well it doesn't really wipe the whole SD card, but clears key folders. I store my backups on my external card and then also back them up to my computer. Just in case...

I had the same issue at first. Moved my backups from internal to external sd. Used dropbox to upload and sync to a folder on my account. When flashing a new ROM I just download TiBu, open it up, make sure the directory is right and then open the menu, hit the reload titanium option and after that hit the menu again and hit the refresh apps button. Works for me every time.

didn't think either of these restored app data though. That is why people use titanium.
I know I had problems with it earlier this year, but it seems to get updated every week here lately and no problems at all. I switched my backup folder to the sd card and it restores apps and data no problem.

I just flashed Venesaur, and I haven't had an issue with TiBu.
In fact, I don't think I've ever had an issue with it. Except when I didn't know how to do something.

[Q] Detailed Instructions for Froyo -> Gingerbread Rom/Radio Flash

I have been scouring the forums to find a detailed set of instructions to flash a gingerbread ROM and radio. There are a lot of part explanations but I cannot find one single post which gives you the step-by-step from start to finish.
It would be nice if there were a simple set of instructions for all gingerbread ROMS on the thunderbolt. However, if there is not, here is what I personally would like to do:
I am running The Perfect Storm v1.4 and Imoseyon's LeanKernel 2.6.0.
I want Gingeritis and Imoseyon's GB LeanKernel.
I am sure that someone has covered this somewhere, but I can't find it. Sorry for the classic noob question. Any help would be appreciated.
First you want to download your rom and kernel to your sdcard (duh )
You also want to find the thread in the Dev section titled "obligatory radio thread" or the thread that has MR2 or MR2.5 radios and download one of those. It should be named PG05IMG.zip, so verify that. Place this file on the root of your sdcard (not in a folder), and then reboot into recovery. Wipe data and cache,as well as Dalvik under advanced. Now that you have wiped, install your rom and your kernel. After this, don't reboot, but pull your battery. Put the battery back in the phone and hold the volume down button. While holding volume down, hold the power button and you should see the HTC bootscreen. If you're still holding both buttons it will take you to the bootloader. From here follow the instructions to flash your radio (this is all you can do if the PG05IMG.zip file is on your sdcard. After the phone does its business it will prompt you to reboot, so be sure to do so. There you go
Make sure to hook your phone to your computer and delete the PG05IMG.zip file when you're done

The only thing I'm shaky on is how to handle renaming the files between flashing the radio and the rom while in recovery.
Also, with regards to backups, I have two questions.
1 - after I use clockwork to do a nandroid backup, do I need to move it from the card. In other words, will flashing effect the nandroid backup such that I should copy it on to my computer.
2 - If I use titanium backup to back up my apps, will I need to do anything before flashing to be able to restore them when I'm in the new rom?

To address the re-naming of files whilst in recovery, you can mount your SD card from clockworkmod recovery by going to mounts and storage > mount USB storage. After you've mounted, just use your Windows/MAC/Linux interface to organize and re-name files.
Regarding your last two questions, no and no. Nandroids, Titanium Backups, SMS+ backups, etc. all save to your SD card in one place or another. So unless you plan on partitioning and/or formatting your SD card before you restore your various backups, then you're fine. However, if you do wipe your SD card at any point, either accidentally or purposely, it is always good to have a copy of it somewhere, so I always like to make sure my SD card is on my computer somewhere with at least one nandroid on it Hope this helps! If you want step-by-steps for going from Froyo to GB, I can help you out with that, just holler.
LAST QUESTIONS (I hope)
After I've flashed the new rom, I've read that you can restore user apps, but not system apps. So the first question is, if reinstall titanium from the APK, will titanium find the backup information that's on the SD card? Second, can you restore the user data as well or will I lose all of that information. If so, can I get it back?
You guys rock. I'm pretty sure this will be a helpful thread for a lot of people like me who need a little reassurance that they won't brick their phone.

Yes, reinstalling titanium backup and using the restore feature is exactly the intended use. Unless you've manually changed the default backup location, it will find it on its own and you can restore both the apps themsevles and the user data (but only if you've backed that up within titanium as well!) However, I don't think titanium backs up sms/mms messages, so you'll have to grab smsbackup+ or a similar application to do that (its free ) Best of luck!

On the subject of pulling battery while in recovery. For me at least, an easier option is to reboot into bootloader using adb. After flashing your Rom and kernel just type adb reboot bootloader in your command prompt, and no battery pulling required.

Actually using TB root (free) you can also batch restore apps rather than individually restore., you just click on menu after clicking on backup/restore, and then select batch and it'll show you all your options.

You can batch in both versions of Titanium, what he was saying is that with premium you can batch restore your apps and not have to click install and ok on each one after they install - it skips that step, which for me was annoying.

I just flashed from VirusRom (froyo) to Das BAMF 2.1 Remix. I have tried both the 2 and 2.5 Radio I found in the forums here and I can never connect to 4g. 3g seems to be fine, but I can never get 4g and I am in a very strong 4g area (normally have full bars). Any suggestions as to how I can fix this?

I myself had some issues with radios as well. I'm not sure if you are having the same problems as I was but here is how I fixed it:
1. Reboot into recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik (3 times each, just in case...), re-flash your kernel (here's a shameless plug if you don't already have a favorite kernel - Imoseyon's LeanKernel is killer).
2. Once flashed, make sure your radio of choice (MR2 has been very good for me so far) is on your SD root named as PG05IMG.zip (you can rename or copy the radio by mounting the SD card in recovery by selecting mounts & storage -> mount usb and doing your business there), either pull the battery and power up holding the volume button as described above in this thread or use adb (I found using adb more simple). For adb, type "adb reboot bootloader" - once in hboot, select bootloader and your radio will flash. Once done reboot.
See if that helps as it did for me. If it doesn't, there are plenty of other very clever folks with their eyes on this thread who can help you better.
Best of luck...

Mine are typically right at 1 GB (or right below it). I'm not sure what the point of the backup would be if you factory reset prior to lol. I'm not certain what would cause one to be that large.

Update: After looking in the CWM backup the file sizes are.
.android_secure.vfat.tar 885mb
data.ext4.tar 322mb
system.ext4.tar 462mb
Any ideas what I can do to get the Nandroid file size smaller?
You've got 800+ mb of apps and data installed on the internal SD. The .android_secure file is well, a backup of the entire .android_secure folder. When you go to Manage Apps and tell the phone to "move to SD card" (some apps just install there on their own) this is where they go.
My backups are about the same size as yours but I've got like 102 apps installed, and quite a few are 20+ mb games.

Mine generally run 1.2 gb. 150 apps installed.

So I guess there are apps stored in some old folder I have searched all over for the folder or folders can't find them anywhere..... Any help where to look?
That much data with that few apps suggest maybe you have some video or music files getting lumped in there. Hard to say for sure, but I agree 1.7 seems like way too much. Try installing TiBu and back up your apps, then take a look and see how big the backups are. This might provide some more granular clues. I highly suggest the TiBu pro batch feature... Save u a lot of time in general

[Q] Troubles booting after installing BusyBox

I have a Wind Amaze with Ruby installed. S-Off, unlocked, the whole shabang. I have been trouble free for months with this install...
Until yesterday when I installed BusyBox to adjust some Facebook permissions using the Permissions App. All I wanted was the Permissions App, but I needed BB to install it, so I did it without knowing really what it was. What is it exactly?
Now my phone will boot but after I unlock the screen, it will just freeze and reboot like 10 mins later. Sometimes I can get further but within a minute or so, it freezes once again.
Yesterday, I also installed a new 32GB SD card but I don't think that's the problem, as I've tried my old card. I'm considering just reflashing the device with a new ROM but I don't want to have to go through the trouble of reconfiguring everything.
If anyone has a fix or suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated.

Titanium backup makes backups of apps/app data, a system backup via recovery makes a backup of the entire system including all files/apps, etc in the the system partition, that's why you should always make a backup in recovery and keep it on your sd card just in case this happens, busybox and the likes change system files/permissions etc, just in case it doesn't work well, you can use a system backup to restore the system files it modified.
Two totally backups, get the idea?
Ah ha, makes sense. I wish I had known this earlier but I suppose this is how you learn.
Could it be possible to grab the titanium backup files if I attach my phone to my computer in disk mode then transfer them when I install the new ROM?

Should be possible, if you can't get it done in the android interface, reboot into 4EXT recovery and choose the mount USB storage option, should make your memory card pop up like it would on the phone for you to copy your files to your pc.

If the rom includes the FREE version, which it usually does, then you need to uninstall it and install again from the Market.
Then it will recognize the key. The Donate version sees the key, the FREE version does not.
I know it's weird, but that's how it is.
I know some Rom Devs won't include the Donate version, so as to avoid users or "XDA Mods" from thinking that the Paid version was cooked in.
As some don't do their homework and jump to conclusions when the app auto identifies their key and they don't know it does so.
Just sayin'....hope that helps.
In any case, an uninstall and reinstall from Market should do the trick.

Oh I see. Not sure what it does when it backs itself up to be honest.
The key is generally stored on your SD card as far as I know.
But maybe that's changed as well, not really sure.
I find relying on using TiBu for backing up restoring much of anything generally causes me more trouble then it's worth.
But that's just my experience and preference.
So anyhow, as far as I know, the update zip won't have the key in it.
I think it's either the old style where it finds it on sd card, or waits until you sign in to Google to identify the device ID.
Ummmm. The key installs as a seperate app. Its on the market. Just go get it. Freaking Amazing.

So just picked up my Note 2 this afternoon and already rooted and unlocked it thanks to the incredibly helpful tutorials on the development forum...
So I installed the SD card I had been using from my Xperia Play, after doing one last final TB, and am a little surprised to see that none of my backups are showing up in TB. I can see all the current apps installed, it's pointing to the right directory, yet nothing from my XP is showing as an available backup to restore. Is it just a compatibility issue between phones?
I'd like to restore some game data and some kik convo's... but if I can't I can't!
Thanks in advance!
Get TB to search the entire phone for the backup directory.

this happened to me. i forgot the solution, but i think clearing the data or reinstalling the app worked.
in my case, i used an app that cleared tb cache.

This. By default it looks at internal sd. You need it to look at the external sd. So open tibu/settings/preferences and click back up folder

it could very well be that the OP thinks "sdcard0" is the microsd.
had the same issue and thought the same thing. Had the my microSD in my droid X and i just simply put it in my note 2 without formating so when i installed TiB the app ofcourse didnt detect the back up location i had for the DX so it created on in the sdcard0 file.
heres what i did hope it helps
go into Titanium Backup
click your menu button
select preferences
scroll to Backup Location folder
click your back button on the phone and stop at the /storage folder
there you will see "extSdCard" and "sdcard0" under it.
select ExtSdCard and HOPEFULLY you'll find your Titanium backup folder

Mind super blown! Having tb scan my entire phone did the trick, but even so many apps didn't recognize my saved data... which is a shame, I had a good game of Simpsons tapped out going!

I just had this issue after flashing a Rom. I had the correct backup location set and could see the backups in the folder, but under Restore they didn't show. Finally, figured out that there was a filter on by default and it was screening out all but System backups. I've never seen a filter affect this area before, only ever used it to filter under the Backup/Restore tab, not under the Check Mark list of options. When I changed the filter to ALL, then the backups magically appeared.
Hope this helps someone else, since this thread kind of went off track.
Thanks

Best is to clear TB's cache from app manager and reopen to change the backup folder search to whole device.
TB recognized all the missing apps and i was able to restore after that.

Holy moses- yes this thread got off track, but i'm glad i kept scrolling and found your reply-
I had just gotten a new galaxy s6, rooted it, and though the tibu folder was absolutely full with all my old backups from the old phone, none appeared. It turned out to be a 'filter' issue, and just clicking the green "check" in the upper right corner, and all reappeared.
thanks- i was messing with this for hours before i found your reply
a simple rename did the trick
I just had an odd experience recently (as in yesterday) and this thread didn't help. however, I found something new that might help other ppl.
A brief background, I took a backup from my first S5 (now being utilized by my wife) then copied the files from the phone memory to the SD card. After setting up my second S5 (flashed then root process) copied the backup files from SD card to the phohe memory. But when I ran TB it can't find/detect the files, so meaning I wasn't able to restore anything. What's odd is I didn't experience this when I first setup my wife's S5, all went very smooth.
After many hours of digging I finally found a solution (in my case, at least). All I did was to rename all the backup files with extensions .gz.zip to .gz and wallah!
Hope this helps.

OMG Thanks so much this has been confusing me for days....
The difference with us as far as I can tell is that at some stage we used windows to copy our old backups to the new phone/SDcard...
And I assume the stupid MTP protocol is 'smart' and does some file conversion, in this case, adding .zip to the .gz files...
Anyway I wasn't about to rename 100 files, so I used 7zip to make one big .tar file from my original SDcard and copied that to the new Phone via windows and then used a phone app to decompress to my TIB backup folder...
Another NOTE: I copied them to /storage/external_SD/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/ to avoid any other permissions issues... (I am on Lolipop)
