Hey guys,
Just got the LTEVO this afternoon, and I put in my old 64GB from my 3VO. I had to do some workarounds since the file structure is different (move around backups of text messages from GO SMS, etc.).
However the one thing I can't do a workaround of is moving all of my music files since there is not enough space, obviously.
But now due to the changed file structure (I believe), Play Music is not detecting my music, and there is no Scan Music option. However, the HTC music app is detecting it. Anyone else have a similar problem or find a solution for this?

i started to import mp3 yesterday from my computer to the tab, ok, quite a few, about 3.5 giga. anyway, the music app recognized quite some songs first, but then when i second time opened it, it said nothing was there, although clearly large number of mp3 are in the musoc folder, in a hirachey structure. then i suspected that it would not recognize any mp3 unless it is directly under music folder, so i eelevated two of them to be directly under music folder, then they showed up in the music app.
is there such a limitation?
I'm also having this problem where none of my songs are showing up in the Music App from Google.
Does it work with sub-folders within a folder labeled "Music"? And for the record, I do not share this problem which is why I'm asking.
im still experiencing this problem. Anyone know why this is happening?
Anyone else getting constant random force close in the Stock Music app, as well as other music apps such as ultimate theater? I have used manage applications to clear cache and that did not seem to help. Is this just a 3.1 thing? My Asus seemed to do it too. Also my ipod has same files so assume its not a file corruption or playlist issue. I can play music, but if it sits on the playlist or album view too long, itll force close/report.
Thoughts or others in this boat?

So, in case others run into this issue.... Here is what has seemed to fix it.
1) open settings, manage applications, and choose the all tab.
2) find Media Storage, Music, amd any other music/media app you may be using.
3) on each one select the option to clear your cache/storage data.
4) reboot and open each media app. It may take a while but they should eventually auto locate your media files.
This seems to have resolved my issue. I found lots of similar forum threads beyond xda, but most were phones and didnt seem to drive to a resolution. I think my issue was i used mybackuppro and restored playlists i had on my Asus Transformer, but whem i used iSyncr to bring in my itunes playlists it created duplicates. 1 with faulty file locations and the other with the GT locations. Since my Asus TF had external sd card through the mnt/removable path, those playlist would never work on the GT.
I hope this helps someone. Whem Google searched 'honeycomb music app force closing' i got alout of results on their new cloud music service. So that was no help at all. Lol

I have read some other threads in this forum, but perhaps because I am rather inexperienced I couldn't quite apply a fix to my problem. I have a 16g SD card that I had in my previous Evo 4g with 1200+ songs and hundreds of ringtones on it from multiple sources. Upon purchasing my new SG3, I naturally installed my SD card into the device. It imported my music upon install, but apparently it did it more than once, and now every single song I had and even new songs I download all appear to be duplicated. I can't even play songs from my player because everything plays twice. All songs are valid...not unopenable as I have read in other threads. As for ringtones, those have 4 or more copies of each file. Very frustrating. From what I read this has something to do with the internal storage vs. external storage, and trying to even find my files using file manager software is a headache. Can anyone direct me to a long term solution to this recurring problem?
Hey guys
My S3, running Jellybam 6.3.0, works fine, but there is a little issue that I'm experiencing
and it's become pretty irksome.
I had 8gb of music on an iPod that I transferred to my PC, then to and SD card, which I now use for my GS3.
All of my past music appears in music players and play fine, but any new music that I download from the phone doesn't show up.
I thought maybe the music players weren't scanning for mp3 files in the download folder, so I decided to move them from the downloads folder
to my Music folder with all my other files.
Here's the problem:
The file manager doesn't seem to "see" for find any of the old music, despite all of the media players finding it no problem.
Also, any new music I download can be searched for an played in a music player, but it is never added to the library.
I decided to mount my phone to my PC do double check, and all of my music is there in the Music folder, which is on the root of my sd card.
Has anyone else had this issue

Did you try to wipe data and install everything again??
Might be a DRM issue?
I have an LG G Stylo from Cricket so its only got 8gb internal storage. I rooted it to try and figure out what was causing the system folder to grow outta control. I realized that every time I play music that I have stored on my sd card either with the stock music app or with Google music a "writeXX.pcm" file gets written in /data. The XX represents numbers that are presumably assigned to each "listening session". This doesn't seem to happen with other music apps downloaded from the play store so that's my current workaround (deleting the files seems to have no effects on the music or anything else). I do have a Google music subscription though and would like to just use one app for all my music. Does anyone here know why this happens?
Bump. Any clues?

I am in a very similar boat. I have the Stylo as well and have been running out of storage almost weekly. I reset the phone and dont really install anything, within a week its full again. I rooted my phone as well trying to find out where the space is going. I located hundreds of WRITE####. PCM files on the ROOT/DATA folder. So now i can delete them but i have no idea whats writing those audio files. I had hundreds of songs on my sd card, but this week after reset, i didnt listen to anything, not even pandora. So it's not making them while listening to music, it's something else. Any more info from your side?
MY initial thoughts could be some internal program on the stylo is "copying" songs off the SD card for some reason. To test this I have copied off all of my pcs and music from the SD card and wiped it. So there isnt anything to see. I also increased permissions to the DATA folder, my second thought is it can create these .PCM files but cannot delete them.
wild shots in the dark basically.

I ended up just using power amp for my sd card music and Google play music for whatever music I don't currently have in my collection. I have found that even playing my collection through Google's music player it still writes those files.
