< Never Mind >
Instead of nevermind maybe telling us what happened and how you resolved would be super cool. I just got my evo lte and it keeps connecting and disconnecting from my wireless router and none of my other devices are having any issues.
My phone sees the SSID of my 5ghz N radio but won't connect. It does connect fine to other radio running n/g at 2.4ghz
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
I am having the same problem with my wifi, it keeps connecting and disconnecting, but it only ses to happen when I browse the internet. Downloading apps and streaming content it stays connected.
Any ideas?
I was having a problem connecting to a non-broadcast SSID. The "fix" seemed to be going into wifi settings, select Wifi Frequency Band and put it into 2.4 off of auto. It connected great when I did that and didn't go in and out. I switched back to auto and haven't had a problem since. Might be helpful to some to try.
Wifi is weak for me. Where my laptop can get 1-2 bars, my phone is saying out of range.
ok everyone -
click on settings --> wi-fi --> menu (its soft button upper right hand corner) --> advanced
then click on "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" and it'll stop trying to auto disconnect / connect spastically trying to save a little battery juice.
--
If you have weak wi-fi, then on this advanced screen, check th circle next to "Best Wi-Fi performance" and it'll kick it into high gear.
I am shocked at the wifi in this, i can see networks several blocks over i can't even see on my desktop or any other device for that matter. it's just one or no bars, but it sees everything around here.

Edit: I think I have fixed the problem (at least for now). I forgot the network and added it again and it's working perfectly.
(I rooted my phone last night)
I tried all of the things that you said, and am still having wifi issues. At my home, wifi connected without problem, but was extremely slow. So slow that it wasn't even usable (much slower than 3G!!!). All other devices I tried have no problems (E4GT, iPad, laptop).
I tried rebooting several times, with no results.
Now I am at school on a different network and it won't even connect (iPad still connects perfectly). Below the wifi network name in settings it goes between "saved" and "connecting".
Is anyone else having these same issues?

I would not recommend using "best wifi performance." On previous htc devices if you used this option it caused a wake lock on the device and didnt improve wifi at all.

This describes my problem exactly. I have tried toggling all of the WiFi options in every permutation, and I can't seem to maintain a stable WiFi connection.

I'm on my way home right now. I got it working at school, but I'll try now at home and see if it's working. Did you try completely forgetting the network?
I was having wifi issues as well when I first got my Evo LTE, all of my other wifi devices in the house were functioning fine and it was really starting to piss me off saying it was out of range and it was right next to it.
So just for the heck of it I rebooted my router and it fixed everything. So even if all your other devices are good, it cant hurt to give the router a power cycle.

Yep, did the same thing. Unplugged the router (Motorola Router) and plugged it back in. Everything works perfectly now.

I have a 300n linksys with the tomato firmware on it.
kinda unrelated question - (should i put this in it's own separate topic post??)
How do you set wifi priority, so it'll stay on the one i want it to connect to, not the strongest, or first one it saw, etc etc. can i order the 'saved' networks in any kind of priority list?
Has anybody found a fix for this? I have tried rebooting the router and my phone. I tried different routers. I tried a factory reset on the phone. Nothing is fixing it. Is anybody else still having this problem?
For those who have fixed it, what did you do? If WiFi works on your network, have you tried additional networks?

Ever since rebooting my router, I haven't had a problem.
Have you tried a different network (or did you just change routers on the same network)?
Apparently this is the thread for this issue... Didn't see this when I started the new one.
my original text below.
-------------------------------------------
Under settings/wifi/advanced, I have "keep wifi on during sleep" set to always. Yet after being off for a while, wifi seems to turn off. That is, upon waking phone from sleep, I can see it reconnecting to wifi, THEN my email is downloaded (k9 set to imap push). This indicates the above setting is not being respected.
Under "settings/more/usage/mobile network" is also set to on. This would suggest that even when wifi is not available, 3g/4g would still be used. This also does not seem to be the case. When waking the phone from sleep, I can see it reconnecting to 3g, then immediately connecting to wifi.
The goal is to have data enabled, even when the phone is sleeping so email can be received. The old evo 4g had a setting to keep data on even when phone was asleep.
Suggestions?

My solution
------------------------------
Ok.... After 2 hrs I made some headway.
Read this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590884 . Apparently the one x suffers from this issue to (though not all of [email protected]#).
There's a hidden menu available showing these options.

Initially, the top most, "put data connection to sleep" was checked. I unchecked it, then waited 20+ minutes. Upon waking, wifi was still connected.
Access to this HIDDEN menu is through your launcher's/activities shortcut. If you're using the stock sense launcher, you won't have this, so follow the instructions in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627517 .
Although this fix didn't work on the one x, it appears to be working on the evo during my time testing. The real test will be tonight. If I have wifi in the AM, then this works 100%. If not, back to the drawing board
----------------------------------
this isn't the fix unless its just after low power threshold, the fix is in one X forums, you need root and modify some htc system files through shell
^^Confirmed. Wifi still seems to drop although the wifi icon remains present in the status bar. Looking at the wifi devices connected to the router clearly shows no evo connected .
I am rooted, so will have to explore the other fixes in the one x forum or wait for an ota update.

Hello everybody!
Someone of you has noticed a poor WiFi reception on Hero?
I'm experiencing a poor WiFi reception in my house when Hero is connect to internet thru an access point.
What happen is that after WiFi connection has been established the phone tends to loose it and restart connection thru GSM/3G link.
That happen also if phone stay in the same place without moving around and also when phone is close to access point location.
Any idea about way to solve the problem?
Regards.

Just an upgrade on issue...
If I turn off data connection thru GSM/3G and switch on WiFi seem that WiFi connection is stable so maybe issue come when both data connection are enabled...
Anyway is annoying shout down each time data connection on GSM/3D and power on WiFi!
Regards.
i believe wifi goes idle when not in use. so it connect to 3g or edge. However there is an app if not various in the market already to help keep wifi always on..
Do a search for wifi and see for yourself.

Thanks for suggestion!
At now I've solved turning off GSM/3G data connection when I'm at home anyway I guess that WiFi reception sometimes go away due to issue of the phone or maybe as way to save battery...
when that happen phone stay unconnected so I guess that should be better if I will check for apps that keep WiFi connection always working!
Alex
when the device goes into standby, the wifi is turned off to save battery poweer, and it will go back to 3G.
go into the wifi settings, press menu and select advanced.
select the timeout options
set to never and it will not turn off when in standby.
problem solved and you shouldn't have to turn off Mobile data, although with the settings widget on your homescreen turning mobile data off off each time is hardly going to ruin your life. in fact i tend to do this anyway, just cos i have spent too many years with windows mobile....
Here's an annoying bug I've found tho - on TMob UK
If I send an MMS from home, wifi on, it sits there, and doesn't send the message. Until I turn off wifi and 3G kicks in again.
Now I know for a fact that on my Magic, it was able to turn on 3g/HSPDA to send the message all by itself. Might have a look in thodse advanced settings tho to see if there is something I can do.. Not a biggie, just a bit of an annoyance.

I too, have been doing a search on Forums all over Google looking for a resolution to this.
I have noticed if Wi-Fi is enabled I am unable to send or receive MMS messages.
It is an annoyance having to turn Wi-Fi off each time also I am never to know if someone has tried to send a message in the first place.
Currently using T-Mobile G2 (rooted with MCR Rom 2.8) on T-Mobile UK
Hey guys,
I have a problem with my wifi...
Here is the before: Wifi works about 70% of the time, occasionally the connection would be dropped (as in "no network access", it still said it was connected).
Here is what then happened (in that order): Wanted to find a less crowded channel and installed Wifi Analyzer. Quickly decided that Channel 1 would be cool, browsed to the router configuration on the Desktop machine (LAN connection), changed the channel. Back to home on Android (don't remember whether via the home or back button). Into settings to see whether I would have to rescan or whether it would pick up the change of channel itself. It couldn't connect... It scans and attempts to connect, but doesn't
What I tried:
I restarted the Galaxy. Still couldn't connect.
Deleted the connection and re-entered the passphrase. Still couldn't connect.
Uninstalled Wifi Analyzer. Still couldn't connect.
Restarted device again. Still couldn't connect.
(At some point during all this, probably quite early, the Wifi symbol also stopped showing up in the status bar. Doesn't appear no matter whether Wifi is on or off)
Switched back to the channel I came from. To no avail
Switched of encryption on the Wifi. Still to no avail
Any ideas as to what might have happened and, more importantly, how to fix it? As I said the connection itself has never been the most reliable, but this is a different league
Thank you everyone!
Sandro
If you haven't tried it yet, reset your router. That fixes the majority of Wi-Fi issues out there. If that doesn't work, it may be your router itself. Certain routers have more issues with mobile phones than others.
You may want to go to a friends house and try connecting to his router and see if you can troubleshoot and isolate the issue. Either way, best of luck...

Damn you sitecom router!!!
Alright, one thing I hadn't tried until now was to restart the router. That fixed everything including (for whatever reason) the lack of the Wifi symbol!!
So if that is possible feel free to delete this thread! I didn't find the option anywhere...
Sorry for the unjustified disturbance
Sandro
My wifi connection often wrong, always in after a period of using, have no access to the Internet. Every time the wifi turned off to open another can get to the Internet, can wifi signal is always full. I searched a lot of method to did not solve, including XDA * # # 0011 turn off on wifi power save mode, when problem solving, but after a while just the same. And with only G mode and so on route, are not solutions. Change a lot of Rom, the kernel baseband all not line.Who's a way to solve?
I am not sure if this is the case but - have you tried different router? My S3 for example has issues when I go to my friend's house (he has some old/er Belkin router). However, when I am home wifi is blazing fast and no issues what so ever (cisco e3000).
my phone has a slight different problem, the phone detects strong signal for all my wifi, but will only save it, and not connect right away, some will not even connect, and sometime the speed is very slow.

I am sure there is no porblem with the router,SGS2 and IP4s with the same router is fine.
I'm getting WIFI problems when waking from deep sleep. My settings are set to keep WIFI on when sleeping only when plugged in, as i find this extends my battery life a little more.
Sometimes it reconnects when waking up, and other times it doesn't and i have to turn WIFI off and then on again to force it to scan and reconnect. If i don't do this and check WIFI, it says it's scanning, but never finds or connects to a network.
Anyone else get this?! I read somewhere about sleep of death on GS2?
There is a known problem with the wifi, I have just changed my phone and so far evrything is working.
been through 9-10 phone with different problems.
Ok, i've tried turning off WIFI power save in the system settings *#0011#
I'll report back with my findings in terms of waking from sleep and possible additional battery drain...
Turning off powersave didn't help on my speeds tho. My SGS2 can pull around 5-600KBs a second, while my SGS3 only pulls roughly half despite being at the roughly same location (ie laying next to each other)
Hi i went from stock ics on my ray to cm9 by followingnexact step by step guide provided by cm9. Used their kernel as well. Have never modded my phone before. Having a small problem with wifi though. After my phone has been asleep for a while, if i wake it up the wifi icon in status bar is no longer blue its a dark grey and i can no longer browse anything or use the internet. Ive tried rebooting. I did the whole wipe cache etc when installing cm9. In wifi settings in advanced ive also left the setting to "leave wifi on when sleep" checked. If i turn off and on the wifi connection the phone ofcourse is able to reconnect again the icon is blue and i can connect. It not jsut a one off thing its been happening since i isntalled the rom.
If i wakek from sleep a few minutes later i have no issue with wifi. Its only when its been sleep for a while do i have this issue.
Any solutions?
I have the exact same problem but for me it's even bigger, whenever i turn on wifi on my modem, i can connect to internet on my phone, but after awhile i lose my connection completely, on my phone and on my pc also, the only way to get it back is to reset my router and wait for like 5-10minutes...

If its also an issue with your. Pc then your issue might be also the router.
My other devices actually work fine in my case its oky this phone that has issues. Macbook iphone ipad nexus s no problems with those.
Same issue here. I can see available networks but unable to connect. There should be no problem with the wifi router as all my other devices work well and I have tried another router. Now I have to flash back to stock firmware.

Your issue seems more severe than mine. Mine actually connects and works, just that when it wakes from long sleep it wont work until i turn off and on wifi.
I get this problem too, but my problem even worse than yours. My wifi lose it's connection after a while, but the icon on status bar shows it's connected, running ping test, browse, even play store can't be accessed. I pinged the router and got unreachable.
And yeah, this problem occurs when I'm using all ICS based rom..
Anybody has any idea if this is a known problem, or if its just us few having thisissue?

I have same problem. I have SE xperia mini with CM9. WiFi worked fine until yesterday. Now phone can't connect to AP (full signal - try connect -> signal drops down), but sharing 3G internet over WiFi works fine. I cleared dalvik cache, but that didn't help.
Anyone else having problems reconnecting to a WiFi connection, or even seeing WiFi SSIDs after disconnecting from WiFi?
This happens to me intermittently. I have 5 WiFi SSIDs in my house. 2.4G and 5G from the FIOS router, and the same from a WiFi access point on another floor at the other end of the house, and a Guest network from the AP. I can normally see all of them from any point in the house, as well as half a dozen from nearby neighbors. And my s9+ normally connects, automatically, to my primary 5G connection without any problem.
But occasionally, after being out and coming back home, or after the phone has been asleep for a while, it won' see any SSIDs. Not mine, or the neighbors. I've tried scanning for WiFi networks, turning WiFi off, waiting a few, and turning it back on, but it doesn't see anything, and won't connect. I've even tried manually inputting the name of one of my access points, but the phone won't find it.
Turn on WiFi automatically is on, WiFi power saving mode is off (although I've had the same issue with it turned on), Keep WiFi on during sleep was set to While charging. I've changed it to always, but it will be a while to see if that helps.
The only way I've found to get it to see WiFi networks again is to reboot the phone.
Oh, and other devices, including other Android phones, see all the SSIDs without issue.
Any thoughts or ideas?
I have te same issue here, I can't find a fix.
Mine will not connect to mobile date after I turn my wifi off. I have to reboot the phone in order to be able to make a call or use data. It all seemed to happen when a pop up came on to enable wifi calling. I can't figure out how to turn that off.
I don't have acupp1's issue with mobile data, but I seem to have resolved the WiFi connection issue by not letting the phone turn WiFi off during sleep. Haven't had the problem since I changed that setting.
I got the same problem since I rooted
Been trying to figure out if its a VENDOR Firmware problem or what. I do know that every developer says its a bug with the s9 when rooting. I've personally watch the live log on TWRP when flashing and seen where it mounts the VENDOR Firmware and then unmounted at the end. So it could possibly be a problem between TWRP and the s9 ROMs idk know exactly yet but I'm looking for a solution also. But I'm going to try what you did with your WiFi then report back here.
