Hi, folks
These are tips for improving the battery life of your SGS2 :
1.Set the wallpaper , with dark or black images
Set the brightness to 10%
2.When you are not using data , please turn it off . Using 3G data will suck lots of juice !!
On the other hand Wifi doesn't suck so much juice
Now the next steps are the most important
3.Please do keep charging between very short intervals ,
Let the battery charge drop to 5-10% then charge till it reaches 100% , this will considerably , increase your battery life .
4.Do not let your phone keep charging for a very long time ,even after it reaches 100%.
This will damage the battery .
Actually when your phone shows that it has been fully charged (100%),it has only been charged for 95% , so plug in for a few more minutes ,for some extra juice .
5.Do not install lots and lots of unused and useless apps ,as they will not only occupy memory , but will also suck the juice out of your phone !!
6.Delete unused widgets from home screen
7.Close unwanted apps running in the background.
Go to task manager and press the ,'clear memory' button frequently .
8.Do not use the charger of other mobile phones , even if they have the same pin ,as this will slowly damage the battery
9.Use only original Samsung battery made for your SGS2 , duplicate or other battery will not only be waste of money , but will also damage your phone !!
10.Sugesstion are welcome , you can posted it , so that i can add it !!
11.If you know a few extra tips , please post it or PM me

Use autobrightness or set the brightness to 10% <-- First you tell people to turn on autobrightness, then you tell people to turn it off and keep it at 10%. Which do you recommend? You can't suggest both. Also, autobrightness will drain your battery more.

9.Use only original Samsung battery made for your SGS2 , duplicate or other battery will not only be waste of money , but will also damage your phone !! <-- While I can't really speak for sure because I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure generic batteries will not kill your phone if they're designed for the phone. We have a lot of members that use generic batteries and their phones run just fine.

Lithium Ion batteries "prefer" short charges.
What's written is applicable to Nickel Cadmium batteries, where charging after partially draining the battery will reduce its capacity.

Where'd you get it? I bought a cheap extended one off ebay and it was great, but after about 3 months it was lasting as long as the stock battery.

rather not its like 30 degrees outside here in Texas ha
so far, 31 minutes used and went from 100 to 76 an hour or two more, and BAM it'll be good.
I put a live wallpaper on and now its running like hell hahah
Even if you're indoors maps and searching for signal might help knock it down more.

Lithium-ion batteries do not have a memory, you do not need to deep cycle them like Ni-Cad, doing so seriously shortens the lifespan of the battery. So unless you notice that the readout for the % of battery charge seems very off from reality don't recalibrate. Even if it is off a little, it will fix itself over time as you charge and use your phone. You don't even need to let it drain a lot. Just use it like normal and charge it when ever you get a chance.

Um, just Google search Lithium-ion. Read a little about the battery technology for yourself and you will see why it is very BAD advise to deep cycle your battery. After a little more than a year with Li-Ion the battery will only hold about 70% of the charge it held when it was new. Keep deep cycling and you will shorten that time to about 4-5 months. Then these same people come back here and ***** about how crappy their battery was because it only lasted a few months and they will offer as proof that it was always crappy because they had to recalibrate it a frequently. I alway think the same thing to myself when I here this from people, "dumb ass, you killed it."
Hell, the sales rep at T-mobile tried to tell me this crap when I purchased my phone. I asked her where she got her electrical engineering degree with focus on battery technology from. After the puzzled look settled from her face I told her that the advice she gave was about the worst thing you could do to the battery. She didn't believe me, but I told her to look it up on her fancy Google powered smart phone. After she did that she apologized.

Wipe battery stats, does not affect the battery, only deletes the stats saved by the OS. It won't make your battery run faster, or better. These are only STATS saved by the system to tell you where your power is going.
Don't go all psycho about the battery issue. get a cheap chinese knokoff battery from ebay with charger (as I did) and just go out with 2 batteries, even with heavy use, 2 batteries should last you all day. (well, with certain roms, Almost all day)

I am running Axura 2.1 with no changes to the modem or theme and a stock battery. My phone is only about 2 months old but running stock I got about 11-13 hours and now I get 24+ hours when I let it. Normally I just charge it every night anyhow because it does not hurt anything, in fact it is better for the battery.
Nothing uses more power than the touch screen. Keep scrolling pages and your phone will be a hand warmer.
I've noticed deep cycling lithium ion batteries can destroy capacity to almost nothing quickly. Keep a charge on it whenever you can. The internal resistance is so low, you won't ever notice a "memory." Until the chemistry inside has rotted itself out.

Excellent job of putting into layman's terms the endless cycle of the relationship of heat creating the substance on the electrode that increases resistance, which creates more heat in an endless cycle that is the death of batteries.
In lead acid batteries (like your car, motorcycle, or uninterruptible power supply) oxidation on the plates create this internal resistance and it is why car batteries are rated by number of months, like a 72 month battery. It happens to some extent to all rechargeable battery technologies, but in the case of Li-Ion batteries the internal chemistry actually tear them selfs up over time.
Long story short is the two really big enemies of Li-Ion batteries is deep cycling and heat. In fact if they are not vented well, and allow heat to build up, you get the battery fires you may have heard about with the Dell and Apple laptops that used the Sony batteries. There have also been a few phones that have been known for melting down.
Y'know, I would love to see a big sticky in one of these forums about this. Another voice of reason -- Don't deep cycle your battery, don't cycle it unnecessarily and don't worry about calibration. Your phone calibrates itself all the time and the less often your battery spends any time at low charge the longer it'll last.

I am having issues with my battery on nero v4.1. I had my phone on idle for 4.5 hours and i lost 8%! I usually lose only 2-3% in 8 hours on idle. Something is very wrong here. I did recondition the battery. I did stop a lot of running services that I didn't need. I always have brightness all the way down, gps off, data and wifi off when not needed, power saving mode off, haptic feedback off and vibration off. Any suggestions? Also how do I monitor what programs are running that's affecting my battery? Thanks in advance.

Did you freeze some of the bloat that was left on the rom? using TiBU, freeze MediaHub and The DRM services. Those things turn itself on and run in the back
I haven't bought the full version of titanium yet, I'm guessing I should lol.
Also keep in mind that the battery percentage depletes faster near the top. See if you get the same result when the battery is <50%.

On any given day if I can't stay tethered to an A/C source I need to swap batteries at least once but sometimes twice. I don't think I use the phone a whole bunch - I'll do some tapatalk forum browsing, maybe a little web surfing, type 10-15 sms's, maybe an email or two (I do sync to exchange) but by noon the morning battery is at 30% and I'm swapping...
So, for you to complain about losing 6% over a four hour period is to me to complain about a firmware which is gently suckling electrons from the battery pack nestled against the phone's abdomen...
...which is to say that from my perspective you're complaining about your phone working properly... My uncensored opinion is to appreciate that you're losing 64% less battery than I am over the same period of time and thank Sombionix for a great ROM

This phone has a litium ion battery. They don't have a memory effect but in the first time they need some time to become the full potential. So it doesn't matter if you charge the phone every day.

To maintain better battery life it might be a good idea to make sure that u dont fully drain the battery
That shouldn't be a problem the most battery's should have electronic inside to prevent this but I can't guarantee it. You can read also the Wikipedia article about lithium ion batteries it's quite interesting.

Well, Battery is average. If it weren't for the 2.3.3 bug, it would rock! In order for it to be normal, I keep ****ting Services.(under Services menu) like Voice talk, SocialHub(which drains a lot of battery) etc

Isn't it actually opposite, I mean somewhere I heard that if a Full charge is given after a Full drain then the battery gets conditioned (optimized I think), can't remember the source but I do remember the fact.

I'm glad this thread exists. I'm so used to running a battery down to the minimum before charging it that I probably would have been in that habit for my SGS2. I'd actually come here to ask the same question now I've been through my first four or five "full" -> "red" -> "charge to full while off" cycles.
Is it confirmed both from the SGS2 & LION technology point of view to now keep it charged up, even if using only half/quarter charges etc to do so?
My battery is giving me around 40 hours a time so not too bad but I'd like to keep it running as well as I can.......

Nope. Li-ion batteries these days prefer constant top-ups and full drain actually kills it faster. Totally opposite of what people have been taught over years of NiCD battery use that I've got friends who absolutely refuse to charge their iPhones unless it's at 10% or less. Their loss.

No that's only good to do once in a while. Full discharges daily put stress on the cells and wear out li ion batteries quicker.

Yes it's common for all lithium ion batteries to charge as often as possible. Its true for all phones on the market today and quite a lot of discussion on this is all around the web.
Also a replacement stock battery for any cell phone today is around 20 dollars, so really you can't do much wrong since its so cheap to buy a new OEM battery replacement.

then I ahve to carry an extra battery everywhere I go...I thinkt hats not handy at all.
But arent there tweaks for optimizing the battery???
And if I go back to stock kernel I have NO recovery mode AND root anymore

There is no app which can do that.
In my opinion even roms which claim to boost battery life are fake.
You can Root the delete all the pre-installed SE stuff.
Use V6 supercharger
Calibrate you battery (to prevent any bad values-calibration wont increase battery life but will make sure it is at its MAXIMUM_)
Now there are some kernels which use a technique in order to charge your battery even more
example: Your mobile allows the battery to be charged at 100% and then they discharge it to 90% after 10 min.
This kernel will not reduce battery from 100 to 90. What is more it will increase the maximum value from 100% to 110%.
BUT (YES THE HUGE BUT) it can destroy you battery (yes fire or blow up).
So i don't really recommend it.

But about the supercharger, I read it is for smoother device, DOES IT ALSO OPTIMIZE BATTERY A LITTLE BIT??

Every time when you charge your battery to 100% battery stats got deleted/recreated. So any process of calibration is useless.

Your example only happens if you leave your phone on charger(for some time) after it's been filled to 100%, but even then Sony is pretty good in this point, some other manufactures are even worse. I think HTC Evo had biggest problem with that.
Do you understand what happens in that case, and that it's normal, or else you would have fried your battery keeping it on charger.
There is one great post in XDA, showing you how charging goes, try finding it, if I remember where it is, will post it.
Also, please tell me where is that kernel which will charge your batter to 110%, because it's simply a big BS, and a totally useless thing
And another thing, @OP: phone(even if it's smartphone) is not made for gameplay, HD or not HD, it literally kills battery so bear with it.
Only thing you can do is get another battery and risk your phone with some cheap batteries.
i cant find the post(it was on XDA) it was talking about different features of kernels and there was a kernel which was over charging your battery and wasnt reducing it to 90% too.
That way you had A good enough boost but YES a lot of users had problems because the batteries were "FRIED" i saw one which his phone was in smoke and burned at the back cover, someone's else battery died.
Hmm.. Just noticed when my phone says 100% charged its not! If I pull battery & reboot its 96%.. Is this a bug or what??

rebooting eats up a LOT of battery power, so thats why it drops to %96 after booting.

Supercharger is not about battery
And no, you won't destroy your battery, indeed you will shorten her life, but hey, you are using smartphone, and it's making your life easier, if you will gonna spend time on thinking to much about battery, you're missing the point
X10 mini pro's battery charged aprox. 2X a day, is still live and kicking like first day
I would be more worried about playing games so much, which means, your CPU is high all the time.

Battery and battery percentage calculations are pretty abstract.. don't try to understand it, and don't bash your head so much about it. It's affected by many variables, and it's not 100% correct.
Sometimes shut down/turn on can take few % of your batter, sometimes it won't take a single %. Same as I have examples where my phone was on standby and in 7h didn't spend one single % of batter, while other day it spend 2,3%
Try to undervolt, but carefully.Can you Read threads about that.

Hi, I have a problem with my Ace. When I only use 2G and use my phone for calls/sms, my battery lasts for like 3 days. But if i have 100% full battery and I use the internet with (or without 3G), my battery lasts for like half an hour, drains from full to 0 and then phone turns off. If i turn on my phone again, it shows like 30% or more battery left, but if data connection is still on, I lose 1 percent in like every second.
This is not only with data connections. I drained my battery from 100% to 0 in like 1,5 hours with just looking some pictures and using the calculator. I would like to think my battery is dead, but it lasts like 3 days when used for calls/sms only.
I have tried recalibrating my battery many times, used different ROMs (stock and custom), still same.
Is there anything else I could do to check my battery status??
Anyway, I am looking for a new battery but not the original one. Im looking from eBay. I contacted the sellers and asked for the weights. Original battery weighs like 30g. I got replied that these two (2050mAh High Capacity Replacement Battery for Samsung Galaxy S5830 and aoonen 2PK NEW Li-Ion Battery for Samsung S5830 Galaxy ACE 1800mAh fast shipping) batteries weigh 50g and 60g. This makes them less likely to be the fake gold ones, or what do u guys think? Has anyone bought one of those batteries? Or can anyone recommend a battery with more capacity than the original one (1350mah)

I'm 100% sure that something is wrong with your battery.
I've never heard about such long-life battery in Galaxy Ace.
3 days calls and texting ?
It's normal that battery drains faster when using mobile data, but not that fast.
If You can, ask a friend to borrow You battery from Galaxy Ace.
If everything will be okay then You'll know the naswer.
If other battery won"t last longer, then i suggest to check you phone for "short circuit".
Maybe something is wrong with your motherboard that is connected with 3G .. ?

I believe so, they both use the same sized battery (1350 mAH, Li-ion Batteries)
Though I may be wrong someone correct me if I am wrong.

I just bought two gold extended life (2450mAh) batteries for my Ace! I was meaning to test them against the stock one but hadn't got around to it yet. Didn't use the stock battery much as I think it's original to the phone which I recently bought 2nd hand.
If anyone wants me to do this test (properly) let me know.
Thinking about this; perhaps a few Ace owners could flash a common ROM and perform a standard discharge test. This would give us some baseline.

My batter is two years old and it works good.
I use CM7 and no super widgets. Maybe it saves energy.
Try another ROM, remove or switch off everything You don't need.
Maybe it will help You. If not, it's time to buy another battery.
Don't ask which browser is the best, because we don't know what You need.
I need my browser to browse websites. I don't use favourites on mobile phone, so everyone is the best.

There's an app called "Battery Drain". Try charging your phone to 100%, turn on Battery Drain and select everything except Vibrate, and let us know how long it takes to fully discharge.
I have a stock battery, and it lasted ~3 hours.

everything is inconclusive, except that there are advantages to using the stock

Wow, just too many variables! For instance.. Any idea how many mA the vibrator uses when typing with haptic feedback? What about the extra battery used by the radio when your in a poor reception area, does my micro-sd use more power than yours? Etc.
Battery life comparisons will only be meaningful in conditions where the battery is the only changed variable. So i would charge two or more batteries; discharge one, then another, measuring the times. Both batteries would need to be new unless you just want to compare something tired and worn with just out the factory.
Not 100% but I think it's relevant how many amps you take at a time, in relation to total capacity.. The chemical tech. may be difference, but lead-acid cells give differing amounts of charge dependent on temperature, and rate of discharge. In most applications capacity (C), is measured over 20 hours (C/20). C/100 will see many more amps capacity, and C/10, fewer! Also consider a used battery could last a considerable time, if only the high drain occasion is minimal. Something simple like the vibrator could send an old battery 'over the edge' if the drain is too high.
What does all this mean to me? Unless you wanna spend hours discharging your phone battery finding out (not really), get a fresh battery online; they still don't cost much and are easy to find. Gold batteries have been available for some time so go with your gut on that one! Perhaps, like me, you think it's worth the risk.
If you really love your phone and think you'll still be holding on to it in a couple of years time - you'll be thankfull you bought a spare battery or two while they were still cheap

Hello, problems of battery are the most important in the management of smartphones increasingly sophisticated. I know of no silver bullet, so it makes sense to always have an alternate (note that battery life depends on time, even without use)
I found a small application, very cool, which is PowerTutor, which gives us interesting information from the battery usage. However'm with JuiceDefender Ultimate (free version exists). The only application which effectively spare battery was Greenpower. [all in gplay]

This is usually the fix. It's amazing how fast some batteries start failing. Old batteries and cold temperatures are usually the top cause of poor battery life, especially in secondhand phones.
