Official ICS Rollout thread - Updated 27/6/2012 - All firmwares available! - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Posted on 25/05/2012
Hello everyone. We’d like to bring you up to speed with recent developments in our Android 4.0 software rollout.
First up, the rollout plans for the Xperia NXT series (Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia U) are progressing as planned. The first smartphone to be upgraded will be Xperia S, starting from the end of June. Then Xperia P will follow, whilst Xperia U will receive it a little later in Q3. As always we will keep you in the loop with the latest info as soon as we can.
For our 2011 range, as you know, we began our Ice Cream Sandwich software upgrade with Xperia arc S, Xperia ray and Xperia neo V last month.
Now, we are happy to confirm that the remaining 2011 smartphones; Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will start to receive their updates starting from next week.
This software upgrade will be Android version 4.0.4 and the good news is that this latest version will also be made available for Xperia arc S, Xperia ray and Xperia neo V users, who received Android 4.0.3 the first time around.
In regards to Xperia PLAY, after extensive in house testing with our developer teams and working with our partners, we have concluded that a consistent and stable experience, particularly with gaming, cannot be guaranteed for this smartphone on Ice Cream Sandwich – therefore, we will not make the Android 4.0 upgrade available for Xperia PLAY.
This decision was also verified when we received similar feedback from the developer community; both experienced developers and advanced users, along with game content providers following our ICS beta ROM for unlocked Xperia PLAY smartphones.
Our priority has and always will be, to provide the best possible user experience on Xperia smartphones. In this instance the ICS upgrade would have compromised stability, where we look to ensure a quality gaming experience with games optimized and developed for Xperia PLAY.
As always, feel free to drop us a comment or question below.

There is not said, that update is released to all devices to all regions during this week. The whole update project to named devices begins this week and lasts until they have done everything for devices receiving the update.
The whole team is in progress of uploading thousands of firmwares and now they also occured server problems probably due to massive uploading and downloading. It all takes long time.
And yes, they said end May/early June. It begon end May. They started like they said, what's the problem?
Now please, calm down, be a bit patient and stop spamming the topic. I know you are all excited and so impatient, but please, that's not a reason to spam. Go outside, have some fun, it is pointless to wait hours behind computer, waiting for the update, finally going to sleep without it. You can't miss the update, it will be available for long time.
When a update comes, then it will be announced/posted, I will update this topic when I see something new, on Sony forums the SI lists are updated when new firmwares are available etc.

Kamarush don't use it in his works because it's not fully stable yet... Maybe something is change?

Honestly I can't tell you what it brings but, if Sony is giving it to us, it might be stable. The latest version released was 3.4.0, so I think 3.0.8 might be far from stable by now. Dunno why kamarush says it is unstable, should we ask him?
Anyways, are you guyz serious when you say that a fw won't be released before its registered here? http://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=19510

uhh guys 4.1.A.0.562 was certified for arc s on 30 mar and released around mid april....... certificate for wt19i is still not certified ... how can they release it next week then ??
http://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=20152

Is that a rule? I mean, the fw could be ready for mass distribution and just waiting for certification... Maybe that site is delayed? Because if Sony will actually release fw for ALL 2011 phones, they might have tons of work to certify everthing.
Just my 2 cents, though.

hmmm ya maybe....

I wonder after we upgrade to ics, we will lose root or not?
Btw, when ics came, I'm waiting for someone to taste it first. If one complains due to slow performance and such, id rather not upgrading but we'll see

You are referring to an official release from Sony?
That's what they say:
If you’ve got a 2011 model, however, here’s the schedule for the phased rollout: starting in late March, the Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray will get their skinned Android 4.0 goodness, while owners of the Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro and Xperia active will have to wait a month longer till late April.

If you are referring to any release: There are already very good working ROMs here on xda. Games, HDMI, front and backcamera working. And of course WLAN, GPS, UMTS and so on:

Official update to 4.0.4 for xperia ray (and others)

Hi guys,
http://blogs.sonymobile.com/products/2012/05/25/update-on-ice-cream-sandwich-rollout-for-xperia-smartphones/ here is info about update to ICS 4.0.4 for ray (and other xperias). As we remember, 4.0.3 has came with lot of problems (laggs, jerking video recording, low performence in games, battery drain). I suggest to type here what has changed in new OFFICIAL rom for xperia ray (mainly if bugs are solved).
Thx in advance
thanks for news and i hope this update be better ^^
i hope it will enable auto brightness, add status bar widgets and lockscreen notifications ...and solve bugs reported

But an updates note? i've installed this firmware on my ray, but i don't know what changes to 4.0.3
I updated yesterday but didn't notice much difference. I have to admit, I didn't check video recording (I hardly use it) nor 3D gaming performance.
As a few others have pointed out, the notification LED didnt appear to work after receiving an SMS or email unless you woke up the screen.

I understand, you have official 4.0.4. Can you tell what about:
- recording video in hd (what about jerking)
- games performance
- laggs
- battery consumption
comparing to gingerbread?
ok, i have found the answer by myself on sony blog. Here it is:
4.0.4 update on Xray
Pros:
*ram usage is better.UI is much more smoother.no lagging at all.
*game performanse is better.(and when exiting the game home screen opens directly.no lagging here too)
Cons:
*Calendar widget is still not showing the next event (so What's the use of this widget?)
*Video recording still lags (playback still lags)
*Dialpad is still taking 2-3 seconds to start at first try to open.
*NO notification LIGHT when you recieve a message when screen is off.
I'm still waiting for another update. Good thing is that between first and second update to ICS it was a short time.

ICS 4.1.A.0.562 vs ICS 4.1.B.0.531 , what's the difference?

As topic title says, what's the difference?
Which should I choose for SE Mini Pro?

Even my XMP doesn't get the firmware update
XDA Premium sent this message from owner of Sk17i
4.1.A.0.562 is Android 4.0.3 and hasn't been released for Mini/Minipro/LWW
4.1.B.0.531 is Android 4.0.4 and it has been released for all 2011 Xperia products (except Play, yet)...
So, you can really choose for your Mini Pro, but the second one, the 4.1.B.0.531 is much better and faster.
You can't install a working 4.1.A.0.562 on a Mini Pro.
Besides, 4.1.A.0.562 has nothing better than 4.1.B.0.431.
It's just bug fixes and various battery life improvement...

Continuing Android software upgrades – Jelly Bean for 2012 Xperia™ smartphones
We were glad to provide the Android 4.0.4 upgrade for our 2011 Xperia portfolio across most markets and the majority of models but, after thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich.
Beyond Ice Cream Sandwich we would not able to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand. We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases.
As usual, the only official software update news will be found regularly here on the blog and we’ll keep you posted as soon as we have news to share.

Slight chance, as they also need to fix some bux for the current firmware.
i hope, it'll be better than ics: faster, smoother, major bug free. i returned to gb after ics because of bad gaming experience and led bug. but stock ics was better than gb, if you forget the games.

Sola doesn't have jb and has 512mb ram. I suggest you sony xperia p if you don't want to spend more money 1gb ram and official jb.
Anyway back on topic:
1)GB: Good battery life, stable, no lags, dialer not lags.
2)ICS: battery life not so good, lags like hell dialer. Sometimes is really annoying have to wait 3-5 secs to make dialer open. Although, there are really good mods for ics on apps section that will not work on gb.

yes, but I read that are not very stable, and that some things still do not work ..
then I enjoy it a bit with GB and in the future I'll enjoy to do some changes (this is nice )
once upgraded to ICS / JB you can return to the original GB?
