It's been several months since I initially rooted my EVO. I did the dumb move and updated the firmware and I lost the root. Here are the specs of my device:
Android Version 2.3.4
HTC Sense version 3.0
Software Number 2.08.651.2
Baseband 0.97.10.0808
PRI Version 1.31_003
PRL Version 21087
Kernel Version 2.6.35.13-g84f8edd

I honestly do not recall how I rooted the device previously. However, I do know that I tried in vain to root the device after the firmware update. I tried to unlock (I believe that is the correct term) the device using the HTC Developers website but I always get stuck on the last step.
I believe the last time I tried to unlock/root my device was back in January. Since it is basically June, I was hoping there have been some updates. I am not tech-savvy and the newbie guide seems a bit intense. Can someone walk me through, in layman's terms, what I can do to permanently unlock/root my device?

My question is, shouldn't there be an update? Or is this as recent as it gets? (I thought Gingerbread....?). When I check for new software updates, it says none are available.
Sorry for the newb questions!!
The OTA for gingerbread was suspended.
Root...

The phone will check for any updates and if available, and you tell it to proceed, will update.
You can force it to check manually too: Menu (key), Settings, Software Update, Check new
yea my buddys having the same problem. he kept ignoring the update notification, now wants to use Talk to video chat, but cant get the update. im looking into the possibility of him downloading a file and renmaing it pg05img.zip and flashing it through h-boot, since hes not rooted
From what I read, the 'official' update from VZW didn't include the video chat option in GTalk.

I can verify it's not on there. I loaded the update onto a friend's phone.... Before it was suspended.
Renaming files pg05img.zip and trying to flash them willy-nilly won't work either if hboot is S-On.
Flashing the ruu worked on my buddies phone. It was unrooted. It said *locked* the whole time which scared the s out of me but I got him on 2.3.4 by just flashing that
Hi all,
So I've been S=off for a year or two and have jumped around between ROMs with no issues as far as sprints network is concerned.
I recently switched to T-Mobile (One M8!!) and decided to give my phone to my sis since she lost hers recently. She's on Sprint.
We've been able to register or "activate" the phone online and through the phone. The problem is that calls don't come through. We get getting the "we're sorry you're account couldn't be validated" message. Could it be that my prl is out of date? Do I need to unroot?? Any help is greatly welcomed.

You have to be on a stock ROM to activate the device.

You probably need to flash a stock, sense based ROM to complete activation.
Edit: I see Captain answered just as I did.

Are the stock ROMs available here?

Practically any Sense ROM will work. Just take a look in the development thread and find one to flash. It's highly advised to keep a Sense ROM backup handy in case of future issues. There are things you can do on a Sense ROM that you cannot do on a AOSP ROM like CM.
If you're on the old partition setup you can flash the ROM from this thread:

I have been running an InsertCoin ROM for about a year now, and it is driving me insane. I rooted this phone and put this ROM on as soon as I got it, and now that I come back to XDA for an update, everything is changed and I am a bit confused.
When I go onto Venom ROM website, it says I need to update firmware to HTC 5.0.2. However, I can't tell which firmware I am even on, and I feel like a complete dumb ass. Here is relevant info for my phone, I want to update to a new rom and TMo's latest radio. If someone can real quick throw me some bulletpoints, i'll figure out the rest. THANK YOU!

for what its worth, i get that red warning on boot splash saying that this build is for development purposes.
I think what I need to do, is first flash the latest stock tmobile rom, and then flash venom rom over it.. does this sound right?
Dear all,
this is my first post here. I have an HTC ONE M7 with below specifications:
Android Version: 5.0.2
HTC Sense Version: 6.0
Software Number:7.19.401.22
HTC SDK API level: 6.55
Kernel Version: 3.4.10-g2fb6b01 [email protected]#1 SMP PREEMP
Basebank version: 4T.35.3218.16_10.33Q 1718.01L
Build number: 7.19.401.22 CL 482424 release keys.
I had initially rooted the phone many years ago, using SuperSu

I would like to know Which RUU i must be using to restore through bootloader.
Or Kindly advise if any other way is available..
Much appreciated.
