Hi fellas, I know this is an age-old question but there's seems to be scant information available on this. Let's share our knowledge to figure this out. This is the list I've come across during my short research:
Adblock Plus: Blocks only on Wi-Fi
Adguard: Removed from Play Store, anybody knows how it is?
Adaway: The best, but requires root.
These are the only mentionable ones I found. Do you guys know of anything better? Which is the best way to go for non-rooted device? Thanks ya'll.
i think you need to enable ad-blocking on your browser since you are not rooted cause you cannot apply system-wide blocking. some of the options are:
-AdBlock browser
-any browser that supports extensions like Firefox and then install adblock extension
-also these ones have adblock feature built inside: UCbrowser, Javelin, Dolphin, Maxthon, Naked Browser

I just installed Adguard app and it has a premium option that it claims will filter adds for applications as well.
Has anyone tried Adguard premium?

Ok, hoping I found the right forum, sorry if I didn't. I have a Moto X '14 (rooted, unlocked, running stock 6.0) and I use Dolphin and Chrome as my browsers. I don't think I have a malware problem I think it's just the fact that browsing on my phone is almost unbearable due to the ads that pop up/over various webpages. Again, these are pertinent to the webpage I'm on so I think they're legit ads but is there any way to block them? I've got the AdBlocker xposed module loaded but that really doesn't seem to be helping. Does anyone have a suggestion for ad blockers that might work? I honestly just give up browsing 1/3 of the pages I try to visit on my phone.
AdAway module does a fantastic job blocking ads using the hosts file.

i'm so sick of the ads and popups on chrome, i don't want to use another browser
i need to make chrome doing it job without any ads or popups, i already blocked the pop-ups and redirects and ads but i still gets popups and ads especially when i surfing on a movies website you know they have a lot of ads, and i find it easy to block them on PC chrome by downloading extensions, but on mobile it's hard
my phone is : pixel 2 xl running android 9.0
i'm also using adaway but he can't doing a thing with chrome
How do I remove all extensions on Chrome?? The pop up ads just drive me crazy and they won't stop! te[email protected]
IMHO blocking typically only really can be achieved by steadily updating phone's hostsfile - what requires phone's Android is rooted. Thus it's also possible to block hundreds of porn sites. This method doesn't need a VPN additionally gets used as that's the case with AD-blockers like Blokada for example.
Hi all. I want to use the DuckDuckGo browser, but apparently it doesn't have a built in adblocker. At least none that I could find. I need my browser to be able to block ads, while also being a privacy focused browser that blocks all the companies from spying and whatnot.
So should I switch to Bromite instead? It comes with an ad blocker already installed, and it's supposed to be privacy focused. But it seems to be absent from Fdroid, whereas DuckDuckGo is still there. Thanks!

There's also ungoogled chromium as a secondary, which you can use extensions with, check that out as well.
Jfyi DDG has a few decent browser extensions iv used before, mostly on desktop though.

For some reason that won't install. I put the APK on my phone, but it says "Installing" then "Software not installed". The only requirement that I can see is that you need to be using later than 5.0 android.
first time posting on the P6 forum (last had a P3).
previously, I used dns.adguard.com for the Private DNS setting. however, that was not blocking all of the ads from within some apps. it worked pretty well until then. Now, I downloaded blokada 5, and that successfully blocks almost all ads. the lone problem is that when connecting to a website, it often slows it down.
curious to see if anyone has a similar experience or recommend an alternative to dns.adguard.com.

I personally use both NordVPN as well as AdAway with root; AdAway has a VPN function of its own, and you can use your own host lists, but the VPN solution is more resource intensive than the root solution.

interesting - thanks for the quick reply.
i do have windscribe, but rarely use it. i have not rooted this device yet, as my understanding rooting will disable Google Wallet/GPay - and I use those more often than I would need to hide ads.
+1 to AdAway, plus if your preferred browser supports it, install an adblocker in it as well - I use uBlock for Firefox.
There's also MinMinGuard which has recently gotten an update to make it work on current systems, but that requires Lsposed if you don't already use it, as well as individually enabling it for every new app you install. Honestly, though, with AdAway plus a browser adblocker, I almost never see any ads in any app, so I don't find MinMinGuard necessary anymore.

No root will not disable Google Wallet/GPay, you just have to install Safety net fix module and all works great, for banking apps just hide root into settings. I use all my banking apps, card tokens and gpay/wallet everyday. Rooking root + adaway.

i tried installing the 1.1.1.1 app from cloudflare, and it did NOT block the ads on my scrabble app. thx for the suggestion though.
Have you tried using a browser like Brave which would help with your browsing experience. I use a combination of Blockada for system wide blocking, pihole for in-home network based blocking and browsers like Brave/DDG for blocking and so on. I have a tasker based activity for turning on/off blockada when in home/out of home. It's my non-root solution.
Additionally you can also lookup -
ahadns.com - you get a customised secure dns url, you can setup filter lists and the URL is configured based on the seelctions.
nextdns.io - something similar to the above. 300,000 free ad-blocking queries per month and past that, the non-blocking DNS service will work till the next month.

Hey, just stumbled across your post and thought that if you use piehole at home, you should be able to just use a VPN to you piehole when on the road so you don't have to rely on third party apps. Don't know about performance though, but you might give it a try.

Been taking NextDNS for a test ride. Easy set up with a lot of features, up to 300,000 queries per month for free. What's not to like?
Fast and running pretty smooth so far, day 7.
