[Q] Best Phone - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which is the best phone in 15k - 18k price range.?

nokia 3310....
on a serious note, since you are in india, u can take a look at the xperia U. it's just in and it's good. there is also the new HTC ONE V.
plus a few oldies like the P970 Optimus Black(MY CELL ), SE neo v, Defy+(it's a good rugged phone), plus there are a few samsungs in that range.
i'll rather suggest you to get the Neo V. it's got official ICS, and is a fairly balanced cell. on my note, AM VERY satisfied with the Optimus Black. it's as powerful as the stellar beauty it looks.

[Q] Are you going to upgrade to the ARC?

In a few months it's gonna be time for me to upgrade my phone. I was so sick of the xperia x10 w/ all of sony's and AT&T's holdups. Is anyone else thinking of getting the ARC?
I like some of sony's UI features, like the camera. Google's stock camera is disgusting. But I havent used it because I have to run a custom 2.2 rom that it doesnt work with.
I say go for a HTC

But Sensation battery life sucks afaik. I'd go for the SGS II as most of the people do at the moment. Only thing is, compared with the Arc, all the other phones (and especially the SGS II and HTC phones) look boring and generic
With GB and custom kernels, my X10 will hopefully stay with me until the next generation of phones is revealed Maybe I'd even go for a MeeGo device, if Android apps are finally supported. Its perfomance and multitasking are really impressive and it'd be a nice change to see something different from Android.
I'm gonna stick with x10 until a beautiful next generation phone comes out. Or I may buy xperia ray, looks great and smaller than arc with pretty much same specs and front camera for video/skype calling.
Sg2 is great, after I tried in shop, but man its ugly.
I may sound a bit old fashioned but I'm getting annoyed with these massive brick phones, smaller for me please

I have a x10 and I ugraded to the atrix dual core 4G. Which is awesome and really fast. The arc is to outdated in hardware specs. But I know the arc has a good camera and has gingerbread.

For me the ARC is a definite no go. If your upgrading on a 2 year contract, then I would say loud and clear "stay as far away from the ARC as you can". In my opinion the arc has the same shelf life as the x10. However, if you have been happy in the main with the x10, then you can go for the beautiful design of the arc over the competency and performance of the other phones (SGS2, Optimus 3d and Sensation).
Personally, I now have a very different view of smartphones to that which I had last year. Then I had the view that they were just cleverer phones but now I know that they are more like mini computers. I wouldn't buy a single core computer for the same price as a dual cored machine because it looked prettier. The same, for me anyways, now applies to smartphones.

exactly...
buying an arc now or soon at the price it is would be cheating yourself in some way imo.
Sure it looks nice, but imagine in 6 months time how dated it will be.
Do yourself a favour and either wait till SE releases something current, or buy something current
no way to get one more SE phone. done with them, i'm heading for SGS2 or LG Optimus 3D in the 2nd half of the year.
SE burned their bridges with me on the x10.
I was always a big SE fan and had nothing but good things to say about them.
But the x10 ruined it for me, so i will have to swap brands for a company that cares about it customers.
If SE had made effort with the X10, i would have bought a newer SE phone but they dropped us in the water.
there is no change in hell i give another 400 Euros for 16m colors, bravia engine and unlocked bootloader, even if i was rich.
If i wanted to buy a new phone i d buy samsung galaxy s2.
NO, Arc is ugly, But might go xperia Neo or Active(underwater video shotting)
Nah it's like buying a Nexus One now, you might as well wait and get something that has a newer lifespan.
There is Q&A section for posting this.
Finally time to buy a new phone. My Xperia X10 has failed so bad. I'll never go with SE again. Which is sad.

[Q] new phone? what to get?

hey guys,
so i have been using the lg p500 for about a year now.
And now i have decided to get a new phone.
i mainly use the the phone for fm radio, internet, music, texting, and some light-medium gaming.
by light-medium i mean things like, angry birds, cut the rope etc.
i was thinking about a phone that has a 1 GHz cpu.
also dev support should be good for that phone. i don't want a phone that most people don't make roms for.
my budget is not high enough for galaxy s2.
but anything below that should be fine.
does anyone have any suggestions?
How about Samsung Galaxy R
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-R-Review_id2855
Nexus S
Optimus Black
Xperia Mini 2011
Xperia Ray
Galaxy S
Defy+
Atrix
Arc
Optimus Sol
Neo V
Nexus S
Xperia Neo
Xperia Arc
Desire HD
?
Optimus 2X (Good Price/Performance Ratio) or Optimus Black
Galaxy S
Nexus S...
I would wait few moths, when better phones will be released. (maybe with even x4 cpu ). And then all x2 cpu prices will drop as hell
And sorry for my english
Xperia Neo V?
Don't go for LG anymore...
I would get some money and wait till you are able to buy a Galaxy Nexus
Greets!
| ThunderG # Optimus One |
Nitrogen
AOSP, Theme Chooser on Nitrogen
| Maguro # Galaxy Nexus |
working on ICS theme
Just buy an lg phone or anything
Before that try seeing the phone forum and see if there is good rom support or dev.

Xperia Mini (Pro) 2011.
Cheap, same res as LGP500, much better screen, decent support by SE (it will get ICS update)... with a 1ghz ARMv7 processor.
Or if you can spare the cash, its more expensive brother the Xperia Ray *drool* Still not a high end phone, but its screen is unbelievably sharp DPI-wise (due to being qhd or so on an area of not much more than the LGP500).
Development is still ramping up for both (probably due to the fact that it will get ICS updates) but it has been rooted and there is a decent Cyanogenmod rom (plus some lesser efforts) and at least one kernel.
I own the Mini Pro (and an LG P500 which is currently being used by my missus to replace an ageing Symbian mishap) and I'm quite happy with the keyboard (though I bought a phone with an AZERTY keyboard which cut me off from happily flashing whatever I find on the interwebs because that's all QWERTY).
Defy or defy+

The Nexus S or Galaxy S
ok it seems like optimus 2x is about 500 dollars where i live. and galaxy s2 is 700.
from all the reviews i read online these two phones are almost the same. so i was wondering, is galaxy s2 really worth the extra 200 dollars?
because if it is, i might wait a little while and buy that.
Make sure your aware of the numerous problems with the 2x. I would still consider it but for $500 is way to much. I had the same situation and I went with the Nexus S. Still a very fast phone and it runs ICS well. Bought it new for $300.

what are the problems with the 2x? i couldn't find any when i was reading the reviews online.

Neo V as an ICS replacement

Hey all,
I own a HTC Wildfire, which is one of the weakest androids on the market.
A year has passed since I bought it,and I'm looking for an ICS phone, which is mid-range.
Basically,I need the phone for Skype,What's Up and Viber.
Wouldn't mind if I could play with some nice games.(Angry Birds is barely playable on my HTC,since it has no GPU)
Is the Neo V a good replacement,or should I look for other devices?
When will it get the ICS update?
I live in Israel, and the price here is quite good for the Neo V.(about 425$)
As I understand, the Neo V has the same CPU and GPU as the HTC Sensation.
I've read an Israeli review on the Neo V,which was summarized as an OK phone, but claimed Sony had missed the train,as it has its flaws.
What do you think,as users?
How long does the battery last?
Thanks,
Yohai.

Neo V is a good phone an the ICS comes late march begin of april,
i love this phone i want no other, but search around in general and you will find information
good luck with it
425$ is too much for Neo V,
I got it about 270$ and yes, its a good phone
Its a good phone!
It's a nice phone, though not exactly cutting edge. Quite an improvement on my previous ZTE Blade, but not noticeably better than the Desire that I've been playing with recently.
I got mine on a very cheap contract so I wasn't bothered about it being brilliant. It depends how much you can get it for.
As has been mentioned, we're getting official ICS in a couple of months or so. I think you'll find that a lot of the similar handsets will already be able to run ICS in some form. Have a look at the available roms in the relevant sections on here.
I have neo which is the same thing. it's great and with a little bit of software modding its perfect.
Neo V is the best of mine
Yeah, neo V is good.. but if ur budget is more enough, then go for arc S or pro..

[Q] Is the NEO V a good buy???

Hey people please help me. I am planning to buy the NEO V. Is is a good buy? Is there any other phone that i should look at?
For the prize range its either Neo V or Ray,if you want the better and bigger screen go for Neo V
About the Neo V all I gotta say is its the best handset out there for 250-260 US$
Is a very goog phone in its price. A recommended buy.
Very good phone for the price. It feels very nice to hold along with hdmi port and 3D camera being very awesome. Im using a neo which has an 8mp camera. However neo v only has a 5mp camera. Boot time is ok and very fun to play with!

According to My Experience, you are gonna Love this Phone Like i do, In its price Class its the best available option for you to purchase. I am having one and i am very happy with My neo v. It does have a 5MP only, but Quality is not Bad as compared with others.
Recommended Buy In its class.
Best for that price range !
you wont regret !
i have SE Neo and it rox so this NEO V just has to be better i hope
No, Neo v is exactly equal than Neo, but with worst camera.
Neo V is the best choise now!
Very soon it'll get ICS.It's very fast and has a good battery.
Thanks for the replies guys...
got mine today.....i guess it is an upgrade from my old phone the htc legend
I don't know the price of neo v in your country, but
i bought neo v at 200€ and i'm really satisfied. Also, flush the emann rom and your telephone will boost up!
It will cost around 18k indian rupees. As of now I am satisfied with it. A good buy.

There is no better smartphone for this price.
Totally agree. Best one in the price range. The camera could have been a little better, having said that I still say its a very good package. Any clue on the ics update. SE says mid april wat do u guys think.?

+1 to all replies. Got Neo, and comparing to Arc its not that different with a + for the front cam. Just a display size difference, but Neo's is enough already.

I have a Xperia Mini Pro, and am still considering getting a Xperia Pro for HDMI support and a bigger screen at around $210 USD without warranty here in China.
im using it right now..
the cam is not the best for me..
even nokia xpress music 5610 with 3.2mp have a better picture..
nevertheless, all function well
Yes....you will get it for 15 k in india from ebay.in
Hit thanks if it helps....

Hi all , I'm confused , whether buying this Xperia Neo or the Xperia Play...
Please help me of making the choices..
Before this i was a blackberry user...
If you want a phone mostly for gaming, get the Play,if you want a phone for multimedia (music, videos, camera) get the Neo.The only difference between them is the gamepad for Play, the screen dimension (4 inch Play vs 3,7 inch Neo),and the camera resolution (5 mp for Play vs 8 mp for neo (or 5 mp for Neo V)).PS:i have a Neo.

Lost my Xperia S, What would other Xperia S owners would get as replacement?

Hey fellow Xperia S owners / Sony Android phone owners.
Last Friday night I lost my beloved Xperia S, and I'm still suffering.. I know the Sony Xperia S is not perfect by any means but I loved mine. I loved the looks with the transparent antenna strip, I loved the HDMI connection separate from the USB connection (Charging while Viewing Netflix for ex.) and even though I had a small show of yellow tint issue, it was not something that bothered me at all. I also loved the fact that is not a common phone (I'm yet to find someone else in person with one). Last but not least I had also familiarized with the phone, it's firmwares, ICS running fine finally, and this xda-developers Xperia S Forum of course.
So right now I'm stuck with the Phone I was given for free from my Carrier, an LG Optimus L5 (crappy phone), even though it has ICS, it's so inferior that it only makes me miss my Xperia S even more
Ok so I need to get me a new phone, and I can say I rather have another Sony phone, so I see that there are already a few models that are coming out soon: Xperia T (Flagship, Skinny Design) and Xperia V(Love the Water-resistant aspect, but Lacks on Front Camera Resolution) , but Like I've said before I really loved the Transparent Antenna Strip, and loved having the Illumination Bar App which would Blink Fast for a Missed Call, or Slow for a new SMS; So I'm also aware of the existence of the Sony Xperia SL (Overclocked CPU to 1.7Ghz compared to the 1.5Ghz on the Xperia S but still an S3 vs The S4 on the newer models T and V), but I can't find any reviews or benchmarks of the Xperia SL making it even harder for me to decide.
So that is the situation, I would like to know what other fellow XDA members would do in my case and/or what are the recommendations.
Sony Xperia T
Sony Xperia V
Sony Xperia SL
Sony Xperia S
Other ?
How do you lost it? I can't see someone losing a phone lol. But that doesn't matter. I'd pick up the Xperia T
"I got my values. So you can keep yours, OK?"
He probably misplaced it and cannot for the life of him recall where he might have left it. I've done that with an MP3 player or two.
I'd get another S. If the V becomes available by the time you make your decision (and it's reasonably priced), consider the V.
I don't even want think about it but I got really f*cked up in party @ a club on Friday and I sat on a couch and had the phone on my lap and I guess I just dropped it on the floor when I leaned to the side to throw up :banghead: .. so there you go, that's what happened
I would like to know if the CPU running at 1.7GHz on the Xperia SL helps on making the ICS OS smoother without hiccups and makes the phone more responsive, and also if the speed bump drains the battery a lot faster than the Xperia S. But I can't find any info on it

Motorola Razr HD: good and solid design, big battery, skin close to stock Android.
Nokia Lumia 920: beautiful unique design, good camera, cool new technologies (IMO most are gimmick but you may think differently), good screen.
iPhone5: beautiful beautiful beautiful and classy design (I really cant get enough of how pretty it is), good screen, good camera.
Honestly if I had the money I'd buy all of them
you know what i would go for the xperia T. having SL is like and S with overclocked cpu, nevermind the transparent strip, go fot the T its an S4 krait .
Xperia SL in silver...prettiest one among the bunch
Xperia T
I would go for the Xperia T or TX if you have to upgrade soon. The device looks very solid, and Sony has learned from the S.
If the V is available to you and the price is right, that's my second pick.
If I lost my Xperia, I would get a galaxy s (the original one) root and flash jb, change the battery, my wife has that now, easy 2 days with daily use (she uses it for work). Would be a good backup for when ur looking for another phone cheap as well, if u lose phones a lot has a nice screen and light

In the future, unless you're loaded and can afford to buy a new phone every few months, install something like Cerberus anti-theft on it. You have a high chance of finding it.

I would probably buy a P if I lost mine

get the T, end of the story really.
Depends on your demand of usage. Though i'll get the new Xperia T. Bond is the game lol nah seriously! it beats S3 n HTC on some serious level plus i have my faith on the new gen snapdragon chipsets & surely the battery can always be tweaked! my Xperia S runs for about 16-17hrs with normal usage so Mr.T can run longer or even perform better and definitely faster! Else, i will wait for the announced S4 PRO LG optimus G (Quads+2150mAh battery) but then again, i never actually liked the way LG looks. Xperia is the beauty with brain
or u could ship the TX from China , It dosent have that illumination bar but the XPERIA LOGO GLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHITE
