hey guys i need to return my phone; whats the best way to format my phone? i dont have an SD card in it either. thanks
If you have not flashed any roms or kernels just do a factory reset. If you have flashed then flash back to stock then do factory reset

My phone was rooted using zedomax's kernel, and is now running siyah. I had to reformat both my sd card and my internal storage so my backups are gone, and I'm unable to connect it to my computer to change kernels or anything of the sort. Every time I try to unroot using odin it refuses to work, and I'm just completely at a loss. I want to delete everything on my phone including the rom and basically reset everything on the phone. Is there any way at all that I can do that or am I stuck with a rooted phone that won't let me even connect it to the computer? I'm extremely frustrated right now, and just want my phone fixed.
EDIT: New update, I am unable to mount my SD card.
A search would have lead you to the 'return to stock' thread.

I would say try mobile Odin and use dropbox to get the stock files on your device. I would be sure to read very carefully first. Maybe even try a different USB cable or a different computer. Also make sure your PC has the kies drivers installed. When you use Odin make sure Odin is running before you connect your phone to put it in download mode. Good luck

Its pretty easy, install the dropbox app on your computer and phone. You put the stock files in your dropbox sync folder on your PC and upload them. Then download them from your mobile app

thanks a lot man. I'm incredibly frustrated right now and your advice seems useful.
This is probably a really dumb question, but what files do I need?
If your phone charges I doubt its a USB port issue and more likely a driver on your CPU or your missing a step in the return to stock thread.

OK. With the one click app open and your phone disconnected and turned off you need to hold down the volume down button and connect the micro USB. Then when the warning screen comes on press volume up.When you do that does a box on Odin turn yellow and say something like com6?

yes, and then I hit start and the factoryfs.img (i believe thats the first step) refuses to begin flashing.

I posted a nand backup I did through cwm. If you extract the clockworkmod folder and put it on your phone, you should be able to see it in cwm as a restore. Hopefully save you a number of steps.
It's a clean stock backup that is rooted and has entropy512's kernel. No Google account has been signed in on it.

Indeed. Only issue might be putting on the right sdcard, either internal or external, for cwm to recognize it.
And just in case forums are still merged and skyrocket users see this, IT IS ONLY FOR AT&T SGH-I777 SGS II PHONES.
I don't want anyone messing up their phones because of me.

yeah should have stated that. but back to the question i asked. can i use the odin package and flash it or could something go wrong
Shouldn't be any issues as I'm pretty sure the PDA file contains the files to repartion. But I've never had to flash a phone through Odin to get off cyanogenmod. I've always run a backup of the previous rom I was on before I flashed cyanogenmod.
I've never done what you're looking at doing, so I'm cautious to tell anyone to do something I haven't done.
I wish the cyanogenmod forum had better instructions to revert to something else.

i just talked to entropy and he said that all i have to do is
2a.) Flash Entropy512's Return/Unbrick to Stock, Kernel + Non-rooted System Package with Modem using Odin3 One-Click Downloader (Windows)
Download the "Odin3 One-Click Downloader Stock I-777 UCKH7 No Bootloaders" package from MultiUpload or MegaUpload. Extract the contents of the zip file to a directory on your hard disk drive. This is a One-Click version of "Entropy512's Return/Unbrick to Stock, Kernel + non-rooted system package" plus stock modem from the development forum. (Contains stock zImage, factoryfs.img and modem.bin.)
Start the Odin3 One-Click Downloader program by double clicking on "I777UCKH7 OCD No BL.exe".
Now Enter Download Mode:
With the phone powered off, plug in the usb cable while holding the vol up + vol down buttons (but not the power button).
When the warning screen appears, press Volume up to continue into download mode.
In Odin, the small edit box in the upper left corner will turn yellow, and say something like [0:COM8].
Click Start. Watch the progress bar advance in green while the message box in the lower area describes the steps. When the flash is finished, the top left larger edit box will turn green and say PASS! and your phone will automatically reboot.
Unplug the usb cable from you phone after it boots up. Success. You're Bone Stock.
and ill be good

ok, i know i'm a little behind with my reply, but it might be helpful to some one else who might have problems with SIM RECOGNITION
once again, it is not about receiving ATT DATA PLAN, it is about your phone NOT recognizing any sim card.
i flashed my skyrocket with ODIN once click ICS, which was very easy. however my DATA plan did not work, so i installed many different modems and no luck. i tried to change different ROMs and no luck.
so i went back to stock ROM, and no luck, then i tried to flash it again with same ODIN one click ICS that i used in the beggining, and i have my phone recognizing my SIM card just fine.
however, still no data plan, i guess it would be on att settings, but not sure which one to use.

As stated in the title, this will be my first time rooting/flashing. I did a good bit with my old Tilt2 thanks to Entropy, but Android and rooting is all new to me. Anyway, on to the question:
Is it necessary to follow the instructions found in "ROM's, Kernels, Tools & "How to" I777 SGS2"
to flash/root my gs2 before flashing this? ([Rom][4.0.3-ICS][XWLP3] Phone-Bricker v2.7)

ps - I have searched the forums through and through and unfortunately I have not found an answer to this particular question, sorry.

I recommend reading the links posted in the sticky to get you started. Please read as much as you can before attempting to do anything. For flashing stuff, this is your guide, but I still recommend that you read a lot more than just that thread before you do anything. There's a ton of information that you should know, and it'll probably take you at least a couple days (took me weeks) to understand it all. Again, start with the links in the sticky.
Ya karate, I have been reading for the past few days about routing, flashing, modems, unrooting etc. Watched several videos and will continue to do so until this weekend when I get some time to go through with it.
As for my question... Is it necessary to root and flash to a custom kernel before flashing to phonebricker?
Clay
ps - I will read everything in those links (again for some)

If you have been reading for the past few days and still asking this question, I suggest you reading more, much more.
Do a logical thinking.
1. If I want to have phone bricker on my device? How? What is requirement to do so? (hint: CWM. Go figure what that is, I assume)
2. OK, now CWM is the requirement, how do I get it on my device? Read up again
3. So, since CWM is on my device, what next????

Yes. If you're on stock GB, root first, use Mobile Odin Lite to flash a custom GB kernel (Entropy's DD or Siyah), then use the CWM included in the kernel to flash Phone Bricker.
Ok so phone is rooted, but I have a question I can't find the answer to.
In the flash without tripping root counter thread, after you're rooted it says to use mobile Odin lite which is all well and fine, I understand that. It says to use it to flash the kernel (GB) you want to use. However, it doesn't say anything about needing a "FlashKernel" which is what the Odin thread says is needed. Is this necessary to flash Entropy Daily/Siyah/etc or is it a kernel all the same and can be overlooked?

I have no idea what a flash kernel is or which Odin thread you're referring to. Just use Mobile Odin to flash Entropy's DD or Siyah. You'll then have CWM, from which you can flash anything you want, and you'll likely never need any form of Odin again (so long as you don't flash anything not recommended by this forum and/or built for this phone).

Mobile Odin and Mobile Odin Lite both consist of two parts. Both parts are apk's really, but one is the main program, and the other, called the flash kernel, contains the version of ClockworkMod Recovery specific to a particular phone. Mobile Odin Lite will recognize and flash a kernel even though there is no flash kernel installed for it. But to use all it's features, that is to flash a complete firmware, or parts other than the kernel, you need to have the flash kernel installed.
I know the terminology that the developer chose to use is rather confusing, since the flash kernel that is part of Mobile Odin has nothing in common with the kernel we want to flash onto our phone. But that's what he named it.
You don't need the flash kernel if all you want to do is install a custom kernel onto your phone, and then delete Mobile Odin Lite. But if you want to keep and use Mobile Odin Lite, then you will need to install the flash kernel apk as well.

Ok done some searching about wiping, and everything I've read says to do so, however, it was never mentioned in the instructions used to root and flash to ukh7 from uck6. So, if I do wipe after I've flashed to Entropy DD (which I tried and it didnt take? When I try to load up CWM it loads up like normal ie. the "downloading" page thing... where you can see if you've tripped the binary counter. Do I need to delete Odin first?), will I need to backup any apps/personal files/contacts?
The threads I've read about wiping have been... somewhat conflicting about what is kept after a factory reset/wipe and what isnt.

You'll need to back up apps using Titanium Backup or a similar app. You will not have to back up personal files on internal or external SD cards; they will not be touched by the wipe. With contacts, you should have them linked to your Google account, so they should already be backed up...

I'm a Ex-Tilt2 user, so I can remember the process of learning how to get at the guts of an Android device with WM6 mentality.
If I recall correctly, a common and recommended step in flashing a new ROM on the ol' Tilts was to use Task27(or some number ending in 7) to wipe all existing data. Android devices don't generally require that. Factory reset/wipe removes all personal data, leaving the OS unchanged from the flashed ROM. Essentially, from a blank device, if a full ROM were flashed via Download Mode with ODIN, using Factory Wipe and wiping the Dalvik Cache will return the system internal storage to that state. This does not affect the internal user storage space, however.
If you want to wipe everything from CWM, go into the Mounts and Storage and format every volume listed. If you read the Wipe Data/Factory Reset output, you'll see it actually formats most of the volumes for you. As I said, wiping the Dalvik cache along with the Factory reset will wipe everything necessary to return the phone to "stock"(and by stock, I mean stock for the ROM installed). This is the , in my opinion, most that is required for a fresh install of almost any ROM.

Just to clarify: what you did, the part about seeing the "downloading" thing where you can read the flash counter, that's download mode. You don't need to delete Odin to get into CWM, you just need to unplug your phone from any USB source (even if the cord's not plugged in on the other side). Then using the same button combo will get you into CWM, so long as you hold it for until CWM comes up.

Could someone point me in the right direction of how to get back to completely stock - without root?
I can only find the guide to revert to stock with root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432 And im also confused on what would be considered "stock" now since im pretty sure what originally came in the phone has been updated.
FYI im running AOKP milestone 6, and i also have a jig if that makes any difference. (also is there a flash counter i need to worry about?)
I have a captivate, and i used to use the one click odin flash to get it completely stock, is there anything like this for this phone?
I guess my last resort would be to do what they said in the thread linked, and then figure out a way to unroot?
thanks in advance for any help.

EDIT: JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN AT&T SGS2 MODEL #I777 AND NOT A SKYROCKET #I727
A few more notes
1. Before you flash anything make sure your battery is charged...
2. Stock now would be UCLE5 ICS don't flash that tho it has a major bug in the kernel, KK6 has issues as well KH7 would be your best bet depending on what you want to do with the phone I will link you to two other threads at the bottom.
3. As long as you're flashing a stock package you won't trip the flash counter...
4. If you flash the stock no root KH7 package and it wont boot after, boot in to 3e recovery and wipe data/factory reset. If it does boot then boot back in to 3e and wipe data/factory reset to reduce any chance of FC's and issues...

As a side note. Always flash the one without boot loaders. Just to be safe.

im in a "rethink possible" bootloop. Any suggestions?
just went through the process again, still stuck at "re-think possible"
used my jig to get into DL mode and flashed from there.
and to answer a probable future question: yes i have an ATT i777
I was running AOKP milestone 6 before trying to flash this.

maybe im getting it confused with my captivate then, but whichever was the most recent version of AOKP as of a few weeks ago.
I didnt do any type of reset, i thought this would just wipe everything anyway.

It doesn't seem to do that very well, boot into recovery and do a wipe. Assuming you're not on ICS that is.

My Bad I should of put #4 in RED "4. If you flash the stock no root KH7 package and it wont boot after, boot in to 3e recovery and wipe data/factory reset. If it does boot then boot back in to 3e and wipe data/factory reset to reduce any chance of FC's and issues..." I'm happy to see you got some help here........
Having trouble getting out of initial boot screen "samsung galaxy s II GT-I9100 with the triangle". I flashed siyah-v3.4.2-nomswap-i777.tar using Odin3_v1,85 and had issues using video and camera. Was using galaxys2root.com as guide but no resolve in forum. I tried to factory reset using power vol+ vol- and was still being shown that i was running the siyah kernal... obviously dont know what im doing. I then tried reset using settings and am now stuck at the boot screen. My computer recognized that it was sgh-i777 when bubble popped up but no data is being listed and is showing up as 2 drives in my computer. It shows battery charging briefly but then screen goes black. Is this salvageable, can I get back to a stock ROM? Please advise.
ODIN or Heimdall + Download mode will get you out of any situation....
Did you read the stickies or the thousands of other threads that covered this?

Im not able to get phone into download mode. Its stuck at that first screen. I thought I was unable to use ODIN if I cant get the yellow box. If I'm able to use it then what should i flash an unroot?
unrooting?
you dont unroot anything.
just flash a stock rom package using ODIN
do you know how to get into download mode?
NEVER USE GALAXYS2ROOT jfc.

Since your computer recognizes the phone, try using adb portable in my signature. It can help you reboot to download mode if you're stuck in a loop.
You can find stock packages in the development section and the stickies.

thanks for the help
I was able to get into download mode... apparently I didnt realize how to do it before. But I used the vol+ vol- plug in usb to enter... just looking for a good stock rom now or willing to mess around with some others... I just want everything to work... for the time being its about as useful as a cerca 90's pager... i can only view missed calls.

I like Shostock3 (personal opinion) but if you stick with a stock Rom, make sure it is 4.0.3. 4.0.4 had an issue with a sleep of death problem.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
what to do first
my phone says im running 4.0.3 and its hardly working so Im thinking that I did something incorrectly when I flashed something from stockrom.com . Im able to get into recovery mode and download mode now with no problems. From what Im reading everyone suggest that I have CWM (but do I need it right now?)... I havent installed it via google play... if it is even there... so is it something I flash? I want to just know how to get it back to normal so I can play around with different roms and find out what I like. I hear that ROM manager is a no no. So... what to do... thanks for having the patience to help.

You'll want to get root if you don't have it. Either flash the stock + root package or use the Exynos Abuse app to gain root. If you use the app, do not patch the vulnerability.
Once you have root, download Mobile Odin and flash the Siyah kernel. You can flash Siyah with regular Odin but it will trip the flash counter.
Clearing the flash counter is as easy as a jig or the triangle away program.
For any extra information on any of these topics, read the stickies and look at Creepyncrawly topics.

thanks again
I have flashed AOKP JB on it and everything seems to be working fine... I now understand the appeal of the whole thing... It runs so smooth. Is there a big reason to clear the flash counter? Is that just a warranty thing? I can see why you wouldnt want a huge triangle on the front if youre trying to sell it. What is patching the vulnerability?

Warranty is really the only reason to clear it. When you run Exynos Abuse it asks if you want to patch the vulnerability that allows it to root the phone. This is a permanent fix and cannot be undone.
