I'm debating buying the Amaze for $300. This is a decent price, but nothing stellar. I'd rather spend less on a Sensation, but I'm having a hard time finding one at the moment. Should I jump at this deal or give it a few days waiting for a cheaper Sensation to come around? I do like the camera on the Amaze and the HSPA+ is a plus, but if I can get a Sensation for $150+ less I'd prefer to save the money.
Thoughts?
this was posted i the wrong section bud... but to answer your question. yes, that is a great deal! i payed $375 for mine used
I paid $375 for mine used also, just like 2 months ago. $300 is a great find, even if you just turn around and resell it. You could get $400 probably very easily.
ziggy46, Thank you for the heads up. I should have posted this to the Q&A section. If a mod reads this can you please move it? Thank you.
Check xda market place if you prefer a sensation, seen quite a few around there over the past few months.
my gf has the sensation and it is a pretty good phone i think it has a dual 1.2ghz processor and the amaze had a 1'5 ghz processor so its a little faster and might be worth the money.. I own the amaze and just rooted, s-off, and flashed a new ICS rom and I love it.

The sensation has the same exact CPU, its just underclocked by default. Or, ours is overclocked by default...
Sensation just has less ram basically.

With the camera mods the sensation users have (which we can use) There probably isn't much diference, that the average user would notice. Assuming that our camera hardware is better, im not sure.

My 2 brothers have the Sensation. They hate it. I can notice a speed difference between my Amaze and their Sensations. My phone responds quicker, loads up faster, etc. Plus the 42mb HSPA+ crushes the 14mb the Sensation has.

I always have about 250-330 mb of ram free i think its just good like this but i prefer amaze because it has a dedicated shutter button if im not wrong and it looks better then the sensation idk its just me...

Hey all, my girlfriend has a TMobile MTGS 4G slide and complains that it's too heavy and bulky. She hardly uses the physical keyboard and wants a new phone.
I was just wondering if getting her a HTC Amaze would still be worth it since it's EOL already and probably won't see much more updates from TMobile or HTC. If not, what new phones would you recommend? I don't like the HTC One S because there is no SD card slot or a removable battery.
Your thoughts?
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
It's as worth it right now as it will ever be, development is booming like never before since S-OFF and the ICS leak, but if your girlfriend is complaining about bulkiness and heaviness then you may want to look into another phone because the Amaze is not so thin and weighs almost as much as the myTouch 4G Slide
The Amaze is still solid, BUT is also heavy (and even heavier with a case obviously). So have her try it. The One S is SUPER lightweight, and she probably doesn't need more than 16 gb (sorry for sexist generalization, but it's 90% accurate) of storage. It's a lot more sleek and thin... WAY more attractive for women imo. Shed love it.
If you're on a budget though, she would prolly prefer the sgs2 or galaxy nexus because of the weight difference

if sexist its towards guys since they have to have all their porn on their sd-card. thats why its a "deal killer" for most people hahaha
but yeah, for a girl i would say the one s anyday. its more sleek, thin, much more fluid/easy to use OS (sense 4.0), etc.

Well, she's tried my phone out and likes it more than her mytouch. But I guess I'll have her try out the One S at the store to see if she likes it then. Any other phones on the horizon? HTC and their EOLing of phones 6 months later had me a little concerned that they're going to do the same thing to the One S.

I would have to agree with hd2joel. Tried Samsung and it has one of the worst quality on the market. Even my friend at Samsung advised me to stay away as many methods of cutting corners occurred in the development and manufacture. Happily back to HTC.

Here's my 2....The One S just released and the One series HTC said they are planning on offering on many providers with little to no variations. This means that in time all of the devices (X, S, V) should (in theory) have a very strong development base. The SGS3 gets released internationally soon that means Tmobile won't see it til the end of 3rd/beginning of 4th quarter this year. It's also been talked about them dropping the Exynos processor for the American versions. Honestly I rocked a Vibrant for a long time but would steer clear of any and all Samsung devices. The Amaze is a solid device though but it's already dated. No reason in starting out behind.

Before you go and bash me saying we do one of these threads like every week I'm just asking an honest question. is it worth it to trade an amaze for a sensation or go to the sensation from the amaze because if development and support
The down side is less RAM slightly worse camera and no internal storage
But besides that speed wise they should be similar since they run the same chip.
Software is a huge part of the phone, and I don't want the one s because it doesn't have a removable battery and storage.
What should I do? I think me and my amaze have been together long enough
Damn noob... There's a Q&A Section.
Noooo it's a discussion thread
In my opinion Sensation is better than Amaze since it gets more software supports (official CM, yah), integrated SoC (seems to be more power efficient), and is slightly thinner.
Hey eclipze! I personally think that the trading to the sensation is a good decision unless your snagging some cash. But I personally have owned 3 sensations. And have had one at the same time as having an amaze. I compared my stock amaze side by side with my cm 9 sensation. And the speed, smoothness, and stability of my amaze was noticeably better than the sensation. So while having the support, I really don't think it out performs the amaze. I had a sensation when the amaze came out. I was honestly laughing at the amaze. It seemed like a terrible phone choice for tmobile to push because it was arguably the same specs as the amaze. I thought this for a long time. I then had an opportunity to get an amaze dirt cheap, I planned on just reselling (besides wanting to play with the camera). But once I played with it I immediately noticed a difference in performance. That aside... Out of probably 4 sensations that ever reached my hands, 3 had significant amounts of dust under the screen. This gradually increased overtime... So even if it didn't have dust to begin with, it happened eventually. Because I'm cheap... If I could find a sensation for around $150 and could sell this for over $250, I'd do it, and use the sensation until gsiii prices dropped. But unless you're getting money out of it I wouldn't find it worth it.

I think I'm having the same feelings as you. I have been thinking about switching to a different device that has more support and dev. Although, I haven't thought about the sensation. Personally, I wouldn't go to the sensation as an equal exchange. I would need cash on top since the amaze is an upgrade.
Although, I'm actually thinking about the sgs3 or the nexus. I found a s3 for 400 brand new, thinking about getting it right after this doctor's appointment.
EDIT: after some reading it seems that there are a lot of scams going on with people on CL and tmobile phones, specifically the sgs3. So maybe won't go down that route. :banghead:

I can personally care less. I don't like the Sensation as much. 14.4MB compared to 42MB. big difference for data. I originally bought my phone so I can tether it to my laptop and Xbox. I still do that. I'm happy with how the software is. I'm not a flashaholic so I really don't mind. Sure, it is slow around here. At least I made some friends around here and people know me.

I got an Amaze knowing its issues. The performance is ok and its size/weight is not as much an issue for me since it is tapered. The lack of wifi source this late is infuriating. The battery life is also mediocre at best. IMO the main problem with the amaze is the crappy HSPA+ modem that was first gen, a huge power hog, and made the phone bulky as well.
But I probably would not downgrade to the sensation despite better rom support and battery life. I'd rather just wait for the successor to the Amaze or the next google phone.

Sure it has great ROM development but I'm sure it wasn't always like that. The amaze work have great development one we figure out data. Plus it's a downgrade in specs from the amaze. If anything I would say go with a more current phone like the s3 or the one series phones.

Just doesn't sound as good as the rumored 5 inch 1080p model which may be the next Nexus. Also rumored to have a 12 mp camera and 2 mp front, S4 pro quad processor with Adreno 320 graphics. And an incremental JB update instead of Key Lime Pie which is weird for a Nexus. Then again these are rumors, but it looks nice.

Hello,
I recently switched to tmobile and am looking to buy a phone to use. I've been looking at HTC Sensation, HTC Amaze, and Galaxy S2. I was thinking to go with HTC Amaze, but I ran into many issues discussed on the net. So, here's my question. Should I buy this phone? Are the issues that bad? Or, can they be resolved by simply installing custom ROMs? I'd appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you.
GT
I dealt with all 3 of them. GS2 is a POS. Sensation is has older harder (but better ROM development) and i love my Amaze. Does all I need it to do. You should get an Amaze.
Agreed with hasoon

Although I love my Amaze its getting to the point where its becoming outdated and unsupported. I would go another route. IMHO.
Depends what you are looking for...
Pros:
- Decent Specs.
- Nice camera.
- microSD.
Cons:
- Due to HTC and the lack of source ROM dev isn't as plentiful as other phones.
- Issues with the back plate not fitting right and making creaking noises.
- Larger device (thickness).
- Sense (for me at least).
- Horrible backlight bleed from the buttons.
- Lackluster battery life.
If I was to go back in time, I would have picked up a Galaxy Nexus over the Amaze.
I was choosing among those phones too (including the blaze). Chose the amaze because it's screen was way better than Samsung crappy pentile offerings and it had a dedicated camera button. Battery life is pretty mediocre even with an anker extended battery. Battery life is a huge weakness since HTC refuses to release wireless source.

sounds like this will be my new device too. going to have great development, and the pricing is astonishing. it doesn't have expandable memory or removable battery but I bet battery will be a thousand times better than the amaze, and memory I guess I could use cloud storage. but sounds like an amazing device.

Given its been broken on almost all ICS Roms. Its on a bunch of forums from T-Mobile. Hopefully somehow some way the open source project on wifi calling actually fixes this issue and T-Mobile implement it.

Don't need wifi calling, and the device is still in beta, nothing is set in stones

Hahaha, I'll see you over there eclipse! I'm very done with this Sense crap. Development is going to be crazy on the Nexus 4!
Development on aosp based phones is really easy and fun.
You might see some of my work even though I'm not getting the device

its gonna be a ghost town around here, even more then it already is!
I'll be sticking around, I still have alot more time left on my contract, and I still like my amaze But the price for the nexus 4 is great, I'm not surprised alot of people are grabbing one.
+1 this will be my first nex device. Anxiously awaiting the 13th.

Will you still be developing for the Amaze?
I got my new device, SGN1, and love it. I have noticed the the Amaze camera is better even though the SGN1 has higher resolution. I'll still be using it just not as often.
Not that impressed with the galaxy nexus 4. It's a great value proposition but early reviews are not the greatest. The more cores you have the more battery problems you have. The LG camera is mediocre and I am not sure of the build quality. 16gb is still a joke IMO. Give me a 32gb option at least.
Staying with the Amaze because of the camera, camera button, removable battery, storage options. I am not upgrading to a phone with less features no matter what. I think HTC will come out with something decent next spring for T-mobile. Something like AT&T's One X+ but with a dual core Krait instead. I'd rather have S4 than Tegra at this point; better battery life.

Yeah I can't believe all the hype over ANY LG phone myself. Its fugly, isn't coming out with much (if any new technology) and doesn't seem to be an upgrade... no wonder it's so cheap.
Thought u were coming to the sgs3 Eclipze

It looks like the S3 is cheaper and better... AND it has expandable memory! (Said in my shocked voice)
And as far as having another plan... well that's what ur lady is for...
