O.k...so now that we have nand, does that mean we can now get updates from android? before,we couldn't because it would reboot the phone back into windows. but now, the Magldr basically makes our HD2 a 'native' android phone since it boots directly into android. just curious..
I don't think so, since the only phones that will get updates directly from Google are the Nexus one and Nexus S.
While the rest of the Smartphones available on the market such as HTC Evo, Samsung Galaxy S, Motorola Droid, etc... will get their updates from their manufactures which will pass them through carries that subsidize those phones.
Android on HD2 will keep getting it's updates through the working of our awesome Developers , and tbh with you I like it this way since we don't have to keep waiting 6+ months for the official updates from those lazy Manufactures/Carriers.
Besides which, do you really want an Android ROM that has incompatible drivers for most of your phone functions? Its taken a while, and a lot of work on behalf of the chefs, to refine the builds and ROMs to make them compatible with the HD2, camera app on all desire hd builds for example took a long while . And we STILL don't have a fully working build for Gingerbread...
Time will deliver it with the sweat of the chefs...
i tink that LG was waiting for cooking a stock rom based on android 2.4 (instead of the 2.3 promised) because of their similarities, in fact the gpu accelerations for 2D, rumored for the 2.4, can only help our P500 performance.
i hope this, and you?
Ps: i tink that a P500 at 150$ with 2.4 in the very next month can bring android for many doubtful people..
I'm not really keeping my hopes up. I bet the last official update we'll receive is Gingerbread. Most companies focus on their flagship phones, and despite the O1's popularity, I don't think it'll receive much.
Also, IMHO, Google is going too fast. Manufacturers are having a hard time catching up and stuff.
But if you ask me, I'm contented with Froyo. Unless, of course, there's a really badass killer feature available only to future releases.
And I think this should be in the General category
kpbotbot- It's more like manufacturers use the differente Android os'es for marketing uses . Look at samsung , they're waiting to release the native 2.3 devices and bearly then will they release gingerbread for their current flagship : Galaxy S . It's a dirty world .
Yeah. Here's a super thank-able screenshot I took weeks ago
LG and Samsung seem like very different companies. The Optimus line is a very good buy for most carriers. It will convert a lot of users to the Android world like me. LG seems to catter to their users too.
The manufacturers should understand Android devices should follow Googles releases. It seems like most manufacturers just barely make the software and communities like xda do the actual bug fixing and create a more robust system with the custom kernel & ROM releases.

why would companies spend money and time in the software when

@orlox - Imagine buying a phone that doesn't come with an operating system.
I prefer if companies release only the lifeless phone, and xda would give life to it.
So androids will be much cheaper

I like the idea!
Post delivered via piece of paper tied to a brick... sorry 'bout the window! XD
The reason I chose this phone is because, for me, it's a small portable computer. If only every bit of hardware of this phone had a corresponding device driver (that we can get hold of), I think there's nothing stopping us from using a full Linux desktop, or other operating systems capable of running on the ARM architecture.
Not so relevant note: Some say the bootloader is locked. True?

So true!
I am very satisfied with my first Android experience, in spite of all the bugs and hardware limitations of this cheap phone. Almost anything I needed but couldn't do before on my "dumb" phone became possible with this micro computer. So I don't really care if it's running Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Ice Cream or Milk & Toast & Honey.
You would care if it was running Cupcake.
P.S There really is a possibility for us to get 2.4 on our phones. It is still called Gingerbread but it will support Honeycomb apps.

there are some questions to answer, why people buy a smartphone in general. We must see the differences between users who "use" the mobile as a daily instrument, users who use the mobile to play 3D games, users who read in the internet and communicate with it and users who are tweaking/hacking (not so sad as i write here). Most of users are using their device for communication, and so the manufacturers can say "why we should develop so fast as google? Our users doesn't need the new features like NFC or other". When communities like XDA, Cyanogen,CodeAurora, androidcentral or others develop their ROMs to their needs, they should do that - they are users who "want" the features. So, manufacturers can invest more time and money in new devices for more experience and for advanced users (like technical freaks). We (users who are lucky for while) can buy the "new" device at a later time, so we can save some money. Nothing other does LG,Samsung or HTC - they are developing for the feature. The money and time to invest in updates or bugfixes are too much for the most - this could be one reason for hold back updates or dont develop. As a developer i can say, the time to spend for Gingerbread development is not small - i have needed 3 monthes to develop a rom, that have just some bugs, and i've do that for fun. for a manufacturer this is not fun

This makes perfect sense from the carrier's perspective. If people had to pay to upgrade to the next version the carriers might have more incentive; as it is now they aren't seeing any more money so why bother investing time on something that could blow up in their face.

Yeah , bro , but you're one man fighting against the tides . It's bound that LG has at least a reminder of 5 man cell team working on getting gingerbread out . And besides they have other ways of getting info and ironing out bugs faster then you can .
Sad that they didn't place on the internet a god damn ETA by now .... thus I guess may or june might a realistic launch date
Oh and to be on-topic with the thread , I guess we'll see 2.4 by CM7 if any of the legendary devs still take interest in this phone ofc
+1 i second that...plus i heard that not all the code used is even OPEN..I mean mik somewhere mentioned that some libraries had no corresponding code in the source code archive....thats gotta stink plus porting of android is different than developiing Linux Distro..I mean no mailing lists and not such a big community of "porters"....but tahts just my take..

you're right:
many libraries are closed source, it's like a driver from nvidia for Linux X.org.
The only way to port it to a new android version is to test if it works - if not, we have a problem. manufacturer does not support communities, so we have to build many workarounds or rewrite the code so that it works. i would wish, the manufacturers opens their drivers and codecs for playing audio and video - so we can develop faster, more stable and uncomplicated:/
back to topic:
i've readed the last days that gingerbread 2.4 is the internal 2.3.3 - let's check, if apps for honeycomb work on this version: in 2.4 there should be compatibility for the honeycomb apps^^

Just out of curiosity will our Galaxy S2 get the next android version (rumoured to be named 'Jellybean').
I'm sure we are gonna get 2-3 more future updates "unofficially" but what will Samsung say about it?
What features will u like to see in the next update?
Talking about future updates, do u think iOS 6 gonna give a competition to android or just be an eye-candy for iSheeps?
i think yes if sammy didn't be mean with us cuz sgs1 had 3 android updates : Eclair-Froyo-GB
btw cm team will bring it for our devices so we dont care about what will sammy do
about isheep i think they will change the icons in ios 6 and they will Laugh on there ass ^_^
Maybe not from Samsung, but cm10 will be available most likely.
The hardware is strong enough for sure, as I doubt that Google will make some sort of huge jump when it comes to the hardware requirements.
Anyway, it's too early to talk about this, as we pretty much know nothing right now.
18 months is the time an android device should be officially supported by software updates
The Galaxy Nexus for sure will get the update. As the Galaxy S II has a similar [or better] hardware, and it's a market success maybe it will get the update. But I don't trust Samsung, and I will try to wait for the next Nexus or get the S III for now until Nexus is released here on Brazil. Google should force all companies to use the pure new Android with some more features, but not with less.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bgce2efur8tq1ot/Screenshot_2017-05-13-17-13-44.png?dl=0 She said it was not compatible yet it got the wifi alliance http://www.wi-fi.org/content/search-page?keys=SM-A310F  I think it's true because only the a5 2016 and a7 2016 got it but the a3 2016 hasn't?:crying:
Based on the existence of the certificate the update exists and is/was already under testing.
The only possible reason not to release it if they f*cked up the optimization of touchwiz for nougat like they did before a few times, resulting in failure to release updates to below flagship devices (like S4 mini).
The A36 is marketed as an ultra mid range device, so if it happens again despite their promises they could probably say goodbye to mid range buyers for once.
Let me explain: power users know Android. They (we) know that with every major update it's more and more optimized and less demanding on hardware, but Samsung seems to have a trouble following that trend with tw. They almost do the opposite, while people demand updates, and it's also in the interest of Google, so they have already warned manufacturers to do their best on the matter, specially Samsung after their past neglections. This topic has a great influence on our preferences and despite the other fields Samsung devices excelling in our eyes, it could change the situation. Now, most simple users choose devices based on our opinions. They ask us for advices. If I prefer Samsung devices, 100-150 people around me will prefer Samsung too based on my opinion; but if I prefer another brand instead, they will buy their devices instead. Now imagine how the numbers come with a lot more power users exisiting in the world, not just me.
The nougat update for A36 (having the broadest market amongst other A and J series devices thanks to it's handy size, yet powerful hw and quality housing) is a big opportunity to show us they have changed their attitude towards mid-range users, something people and Google are waiting for a long time, so they know it would be a disaster for them to back out from it in the final moments. I hope they won't.
I hope they release it but it explains why a7 and a5 2016 got nougat before the a3

These support guys don't know what they are saying... "I'm afraid it's not compatible" => there is no such thing. If they make a compatible build than it is compatible, simple as that. Also, when I've asked them, I got the response that IT IS GOOGLE WHO MAKES THE UPDATES, THEN THE CARRIERS REVIEW IT AND RELEASE IT. Yes, this is how it should be ideally if there would be a flexible hardware abstraction layer, but sadly it is Samsung who has to build the update after Google releases the source, and before carriers can deploy it... When I had to rate the conversation I wrote them that their support department has no access to proper information even about HOW updates work which is very troubling for conscious users who chose Samsung because of Android (+their quality hardware) and expect them to properly provide updates for their ultra mid range devices too, not just for their overpriced flagships.

Q is no big deal anyway. There isn't a whole lot going on with it other than Google will be able to release security updates via Play Store with their new Project Mainline. It will also give the Pixel kids something to run around and squeal about because we know how they get all puffed up when they can say they got it first. ?

Yeah, it's true that Android Q hasn't a lot of new stuff.
No need of it now.
But, there's many manufacturers who participate to the beta. I don't understand why a big player like Samsung isn't on the list.
I wish they will participate soon.

I've been through 2 betas with Samsung and before that I was in 3 or 4 with Motorola. To be honest, Samsung doesn't have a clue on how to run a beta program. When we reported problems in the Samsung Members app, the best we got if anything at all was to submit a report through the app to the developers. As far as I know no one got feedback other than we're looking into it. Everything I reported with the S9 carried over to the Pie final. Motorola had a dedicated forum with moderators that actually passed feedback back and forth. I even spoke with a software engineer two times.
Beta with Samsung is sort of here it is, hope it works.
well,i was hoping samsung can update a new full screen gesture like android Q , MIUI 10 , oneplus 6's or maybe just build-in one hand operation in next firmware. and faster fingerprint scanning,it really sucks when you try so hard and it just not unlock the phone

Not sure I agree here. I'm running it on my Pixel 3 xl and it has many noteworthy features. There is live caption which let's you get real-time transcriptions of what is being said on any video, in any app, across the entire OS. There are systemwide UI changes like dark mode and improved gestural navigation and the back button; over 40 updates to the way security, permissions and privacy agreements are handled. Also, there are improvements to Android's security which will make them come faster thought the Playstore (Project Mainline), better parental controls, new Notification Assistant that will help you reply to incoming chats and other minor stuff. In my opinion, it is by no means a small upgrade, specially when you consider it is still in Beta 3 and will probably add even more features. So far, it runs smooth as butter for me and had great battery life.

? I'm buying a new high branded product to have one of the best smartphone. I'm here because I want to share my experience and to find informations from others.
What I see is that almost others brands are offering beta firmware to users and faster updates than Samsung. Why do we have to accept this?
I owned some Samsung devices in the past. Finally change my P20 Pro to try S10. But Samsung was not faster than before on updates, maybe slower.
My girlfriend know nothing about cellphone and don't care about updates. But, if you're here man and you don't care about new characteristics, what are you doing here?

You accept it because that's pretty much the way Samsung has always been and not anyone here is going to change that. When someone buys a Samsung phone, they need to accept that as a condition. I would bet money that the majority of users worldwide care less about updates as long as their phone works reliably.

Other brands may very well offer beta firmware and if what you want is for firmware to come out quickly then I suggest next time you get one of those devices but what I said was be patient, it will eventually come out. You shouldn't be here just to whine about updates not coming out, I've been on XDA for nearly ten years now and it annoys me when people complain about the speed of updates. You should want a complete update without bugs and that takes time, making a post about it won't speed up the release and just clutters up the feed.
Samsung if you see has alot of devices to take care of. They release security patches on monthly bases to phone ranging from 100-max$ they have. Also the one ui which is very heavy skin needs to be fully usable and bug less in new android q. I myself have tried betas and didn't find anything usefull expect bragging in front my friends. Apps run same or maybe 1-2% faster in Q.
With Android betas you can download a new CPU & more RAM to your device so this is why it's so important to get it quickly from the manufacturer.

In all seriousness tho Samsung won't be physically be able to release firmware as quick as Google due to the extra software overlay. Its that simple lol
