I went to Sprint today to get the car dock. Unfortunately, even with it's extra space for a cover it just isn't big enough to accommodate the Defender. Does anyone have a suggestion on a dock that would work?

keep on the lookout for slipgrip mounts on ebay, the guy does mounts for a lot of the popular cases. It won't have the dock functionality but it'll hold the device at the least, just connect your own power from the cig lighter

Looks nice but damn, based on the price, they're quite proud of that unit.

That looks like it would work - I have more chargers and cables so don't need a powered dock. Have you used these before? My only concern is that I drive a Suburban and the windshield is a long way from the front of the dash if I am going to mount it low. I suppose I could mount it up near the mirror though.

Yea i have, i got the vent mount and the bike mount and had they guy ship them separately so i could use just the dock part with my proclip vehicle specific mount.
Here's some pics of the old evo setup, the bracket that goes in the dash is from proclip, i just made some small modifications and screwed the mount on to the ball joint that then screws in to the bracket. I ran a second lighter socket to the 5v source behind the original sig lighter, plugged a belkin microusb charger in there and ran the wire out. I also ran a 3.5mm from the line in behind the HU to right near the mount. Its a lot neater now than it is in the pictures as i've ran the wires again but you get the idea.

Looks good. I just need to figure out how I want to put it all together so that it isn't too crazy with wires everywhere.

I'd like to find a custom-fit mount. I've found universal mounts to be horrible at best.
I'm tempted to take the myTouch 3G Slide Charging Cradle and mod the crap out of it to make it work with my HR window mount... or maybe I'll just put a giant two-sided sticker to keep this on the dash. I'm not sure if the bluetooth receiver is in the base...
sort of a car mount
I got two of these Akron holders.
amazon.com/gp/product/B00343295O
Arkon MICRO Universal Lighter Socket Mount with Micro USB Charge Cable for Mobile Phones and Smartphones (Black)
Not exactly a 'mount' but plugs into the charger and is adjustable. Works great in my truck and my explorer, especially when using GPS.
Sorry not enough posts yet to set a link.
I swear by PanaVise's "InDash" mounts. They're basically a bent piece of powder-coated metal, cut and formed for your particular car. It has holes in it for any AMPS compatible holder.

For the holder itself, I use a bracketron universal holder since it's relatively cheap and durable. For those who want one specifically for the MT3GS, ProClip makes two slide-in docks for the phone. One is just a plain cradle. The other is a charging dock that can either be plugged into the lighter socket or hardwired into the vehicle. I drooled over it, but I wouldn't spend what they're asking for any phone-specific dock that I probably wouldn't use in a year's time.
Thnks for the info guys I was also looking for a car mount.

I have not found a desent car holder.
This works with my 2002 Lexus ES 300, YMMV.
Hardware purchased from ProClipusa.com. (I have no affiliation with ProClip, other than as a satisfied customer).
First piece is the car clip, which seats firmly to the right of the radio panel:

}
Here is another view of this piece and how it attaches (it is not permanent, and can be removed):
Second piece is the device mount, which attaches to the car mount and to the device, and has a pivot on it. I was already using one that screwed into my Sirius radio, so I unscrewed it from the radio an put velcro on it. I already had velcro on the back of my G-Tab for my folio case, so the G-Tab velcros nicely onto the device mount.
Here is the picture of the device mount:
The rear of the male plate screws into the car mount, and the female plate slides onto the front of the male plate. The device attaches to the female plate.
The car and device mount sit quite firmly in the car. Because the G-Tab is quite a bit larger then the velcroed device mount (which is probably 2-3 inches square), it could attach more firmly, but there is no danger of it falling off.
ProClip has hundreds of car-specific and device-specific mounts, so if they have a car mount that will work in your car, you probably could search the device mounts to find a flat one with a larger surface area than my Sirius mount, for a larger velcro attachment. I have not done this, since the Sirius one works fine for me.
I am not at home, but I will take a picture of the mounted G-Tab later and update.
This is not the cheapest solution, but with the velcro, I now use this mount for the G-Tab, my HTC Inspire, and my Sirius radio.
Works great for me.
UPDATE:
I just took a quick look and they do sell a generic device mount for larger devices, for which they supply 2 sided tape to attach to the device. But, for me, velcro is better:
http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de...te-for-tablet-style-devices-215159-13975.aspx
If you are interested, make sure this device mount will attach to the specific car mount that you use.
So, I got the Ringke Slim hoping it would fit with the ProClip . . . which it didn't.
It would slide in ok, but the alignment to the charging port was off by nearly an 8th inch.
I had to take the dremmel to the mount to get it to work, but it works. Surprisingly, the phone still fits pretty snuggly even without the case
I got the hard-wired mount, so I also dremmeled a small gap in the console for the power cable and an audio cable.
Waze looks great on this thing!!
Let me know if the pictures show up or not . . . experimenting with using facebook to image host

When you order the ProClip you get the dock and mount together with a mount specific to your car.
They have a standalone dock, a lighter charger dock, and a hardire dock. I got the hard wired. Pulled the console out and soldered the positive lead into the existing cigarette lighter power supply with an inline 2a fuse and grounded to the existing ground.
I already had an ipod interface installed to work with the factory head unit, and that interface also has auxiliary input. Just ran the rca through the same hole for the power cable and plugged it in to the ipod interface unit behind the dash.
I always bought ProClip USa mounts for my devices. They are vibration free, and very quality products.
However I'm surprised they don't have the adjustable dock for the note (like they did for my iPhone 4). It would allow for different case widths...I guess they don't do it for all devices.
Is that a tape player in your car?

LOL . . . no. There was an option tape deck that fit under the cd deck so it's got the button on there for input selection. I have the "cash box" under the head unit and in the cash box is an old iPhone 3g hooked up to a PA11-HON which charges and controls the playlists through the factory deck.

It was either this one or the "universal mount" . . . I didn't want to play with the universal thing so I got this knowing I'd either need to mod it or go case free. It's still snug as a bug even without the case, but I think I may have voided my warranty and affected my resale value
A while back I got one of these really cheap desktop phone stands given to me. It's actually very sturdy, but I didn't have much use for it, so it went into a box of misc. stuff in the closet.

More recently I picked up an inexpensive wireless charging puck that works quite well
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F6SPZWO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So I wondered if I could stick the puck to the back of the stand, and make a poor man's Tylt Vu charging stand. Sadly, the answer was no. The thickness of the plexiglass stand, added to the case for the charging puck, was too great for the Qi coils to bridge. But, I thought, what if I remove the thickness of the puck's case, and put the charging coil directly on the back of the plexi stand? So I disassembled the puck, and low and behold, that worked just fine.
Not wanting to give up the puck, I decided to order another. Being cheap, I saw a bunch of similar looking circular pucks for an even lower price, and thought they're probably the same thing. So I ordered one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/MuchBuy-Wirel...638&sr=1-11&keywords=docooler+qi+charging+pad
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Well, it's not the same. It's definitely cheaper than the PowerBot, but it worked fine, so I took it apart. Combined with the freebie stand, I bring you..... FrankenCharger. Ugly as sin, but it works, and a total outlay of about $10 can't be beat. Similar looking pucks are available from ebay for $3 to $4 bucks.
The bumpers that the phone rests on are soft plastic, and are extras from kitchen cabinets, intended to keep the cabinet doors from slamming closed. I may try to figure out a better way to hold it together than electrical tape, but there's something honestly cheap about that solution that appeals to me.
Here's a shot of the back, and sitting next to my work PC. I may stick some thin cork dots, or something similar, on the bottom to keep it from sliding around, but where it's located it's atually pretty stable.
nice i did something similar, but i also use a laser cut, its good to have one

Great job!
So I ordered These two things from Amazon as I wanted my Shield Tablet mounted to my windshield.

I must say I think this is probably the best mount I've ever had. It doesn't shake or move when I hit a bump. I thought maybe the tablet was going to be too heavy but the suction cup is high quality and locks. You'd think having a tablet mounted to your windshield is overkill but it's actually quite nice.

Ok that looks badass.. I just ordered them. I use my Shield for GPS I'm on the road all the time and this mount looks like it can take a beating.
Thanks for posting the link!
I've installed Tasker and now everything is pretty much automated. As soon as it connects to my bluetooth and sensors it's on it's left side, it goes into car mode, disables screen lock and searches for my wifi my phone shares. Really happy with it so far.

Have you received it yet? How do you like it?
I build some for my own. because I don t like it in window.
but now I need a program that show me the radiostations over OBDII..
Only problem is I didn't want my stereo being covered up by having my tablet in front of it. There was enough space between my stereo and climate controls to have the tablet mounted there but I couldn't find any mount that would allow it.

I didn't know they made programs to show radio stations over OBDII... I don't even think the computer knows what the radio is doing, right?

Hey. Is one side for a tablet and if you flip it around the other side is for a phone. Was wondering what the thing were on the other side of the grip tablet holder. This mount has still been performing well?

I was hoping that was a mount for a phone as well but it's so you can open it up easier as it's spring mounted. It' been performing great.
