Hey guys !
It's been a while now since I have this idea in my mind, but I don't understand anything about programming with android and SDK and all those things (though I'd like to learn ^^)
Well, my idea is, why can't we resize the wallpaper we're about to apply, at any dimension we would like ?
Example : My SE X10 has a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. So the wallpaper will ALWAYS be 960 x 854 px. So it means that if we're on the first desktop, we have the first half of the wallpaper, and when on the right desktop, it will be the last half of the wallpaper.
So the idea is, we can resize the wallpaper at any size we want. Example, 1440 x 854 px (for my X10). This means there will be a third on the first screen, another third on the middle screen, and a last third on the last screen.
I hope I'm clear enough to be understood ^^
Tell me what you think about it Thanks !

Hey guys and gals,
How about wallpaper size and resolution?
What size and resolution of wallpaper are you guys using for the Archos 101. I'm currently trying to find the best size of wallpaper that will allow me to see the whole picture on the screen without having to cut a large chunk out of it.
What are you guys experiencing and have observed.

If you just use the stock wallpaper app, that is never going to happen. It will fore you to cut the picture in a square, and then zooms in.
Use something like Wallpaper Set and Save, or MultiPicture Live Wallpaper. I prefer the latter as it does not cut or crop my picture.
Same as every other Android device.
Double the narrow resolution.
So in our case, wallpaper for the 1024x600 display is 1024x1200.
For some reason though, not sure if it's Archos or Android, the quality is still degraded a bit. Not noticeable for a lot of images unless there's text that's already on the verge of illegible.
thanks, TempestDK! MultiPicture Live Wallpaper worked like a charm
I found that on my A70, I had to use a 1280x1040 image was perfect and gave me the full image. I have a great Super Mario wallpaper on currently (see attachment).
for A70 -> 960 x 800 or 800 x 960 and will work in vertical and horizontal position too
Here is a list of the recommended wallpaper resolutions for each Generation 8 devices
Archos 28 - 320x480 or 480x320
Archos 32 - 400x480 or 480x400
Archos 43 - 854x960 or 960x854
Archos 70 - 800x960 or 960x800
Archos 101 - 1024x1200 or 1200x1024

how about when it is on horizontal??does it fits?
I tried a 1024 x 1200 on my Archos 101 and it didnt look great. It lost the bottom of the picture. Looked OK in Portrait. There's something going on with the way Archos is resizing the pics.....
Ok so I've decided to stop using live wallpapers as they eat up battery and break launcher pro if I underclock my CPU to save battery.
However I'm having problems getting wallpapers the right size.
I've tried resizing them to 320x480 but when setting them it still asks me to crop them and the crop box isn't even the right shape rectangle when maximised!
So what size should my backgrounds be to fit nicely on the screen?
Try 640 x 480. It worked for me, on Zeam.
For Optimus One wallpaper must be a resolution of 640x480, and all other phones with resolution 320x480.
thanks for the replies, i'll try it out.
It's because the background moves as you swipe home screens. Basically, android wallpapers should have the same height as the screen but twice the width.
Good article on it: http://m.lifehacker.com/5657727/whats-the-deal-with-androids-weird-wallpaper-requirements
Hello. You would assume that the native resolution for 1 x home screen page would be the exact same size as a lock screen wallpaper at 480 x 800 right? WRONG!
I have tried to use Gallery, Quickpic, Just pictures all without success
I believe that due to the nature of having multiple home screens (active or not) Samsung have somehow managed to make it impossible to set the correct resolution for a 1 page wallpaper.
With Quickpic it will simply not allow you to select the whole image
With Gallery it does the same but gives you the option to save it as portrait or landscape both of which do not work
Just pictures is giving me the same result
If you don't believe me try it for yourself. Make sure you select an image that is filled with content, not just a small icon in the middle with a bunch of blank space around it.
It's seriously annoying me and makes no sense as to why the native resolution is NOT WORKING! and not even allowing you to select the whole of the image to be used as a home screen wallpaper. But if you use that exact same image and set it as a lock screen wallpaper it works PERFECTLY
I have so far tried these sizes but still not getting anywhere
480 x 480
900 x 900
480 x 800
960 x 800
960 x 960
800 x 800
Can anybody please shed some light
1240x800
600x480
720x600?
Try dodol wallpaper maker.
I will try the above. Thanks for your replies.
did u succeed? what is the reqired resolution?
Thanks.
Are you using default TW launcher? I have no issues setting a 480x800 wallpaper when using default launcher. Other launchers have the issues you described.
Sent from out of space using Thuraya 2 satellite!
the screen size of the mini pro is 320x480 and when I download a wallpaper (of the same size) and look at it in with the gallery app, it fits my screen exactly. but when I then want to set it as my wallpaper with gallery, apparently I can only use a part, at maximum half of it as max size? how come? how can I get wallpapers to be properly displayed at their full screen size?
Wallpapers need to be wide enough to cover 3 homescreens - due to the scrolling. It does not scroll more than 3 screens regardless of actual # of homescreens on your phone.
Therefore your wallpaper should be 960 x 480 for full coverage (3 x 320 by 480). Took me a while to work that out myself
thanks for letting me know
but then I wonder why people upload so many wallpapers with just the size for 1 screen?
edit: now Ive read that the best size is actually supposed to be 640x480, because apparently it doesnt move that far when scrolling

Erm.. yeah you're quite correct... but the principle was good
Thank's Good Info
Hello, I am making a live wallpaper for Xperia P, and was wondering what resolution to use.
1) Do I have to use 540width x 960height for single screen, and keep multiplying that for more screens? For example 1080 x 960 for 2 screens.
2) Another issue I went through is that the size of the png sequence(which is needed for the animation) is big on size, and came out to be around 20mb although most live wallpapers on market are couple mb's.
Any ideas?
