Hi,
Just curious if anyone has the same issue with me,
Before flashing custom ROM and kernel I got my GPS working properly, I can use Endomondo apps without issue, but after flashing custom ROM + kernel (MeanROM 4.3 + dodova 0.54 kernel) I got an issue with my GPS...
when trying to use Endomondo to track my workout it always say "waiting for satellites..."
Now trying to Relock and unroot using 2.17 firmware RUU, but there's no change... Still have this issue...
Any suggestions ??
Do other apps requiring Gps find your location? Does Google maps find you fine? Check that you have Gps turned on, it could be set to only use cell network for location. Also you can use the app faster fix to help with Gps location.

Have you relocked and unrooted? Why not just to flash a new rom?

Download GPS Status from the market and clear your GPS data using the tool. Then download new data. It may/may not work, but it's worth a shot.

Flash updates 33 and 34 and your GPS will be working again. I plomise.
The plomise was on purpose because I can't promise. But I can plomise.

you might go into setting/location & security settings and make sure your Use GPS satellites is enabled if you havent done that yet...

Also make sure location setting isn't E911 only.
You said you were on version 32. the current version is 34. The latest version includes updates to the gps libraries. Most likely if you flash the new update your problem will be resolved.

I've already upgrade to version 34 and nothing. by the way i went into the location settings and there's no such a thing as location on 911 all you will find is use gps satellites which is obviously checked and use wireless network.

Hmm it may be different on KaosFroyo. I have another option that you push once in Location Settings on PlainJane2.0 that you can choose that.
Well, Sense ≠ Vanilla so I would think that the Settings menu would be a bit different. However try to wipe Data and cache. Then try and flash v34. See if that works...
And if you can't fix it you may need to replace your phone. But if you do get the Incredible!
Try downloading GPS status from the market. Open it > Menu > Settings >GPS and sensors > Manage A-GPS state > Reset and download. Also calibrate roll and pitch.
ok i did all of that and nothing, am just going to send this phone in and get a replacement i am paying for the insurance on this phone anyways. i wish i could get incredible but am sure the insurance comany will provide me with a reburbish eris nevertheless thanks alot guys for all the suggestions.
Gps is broken on v32. Try v34 or wait for 35.

you might try another rom just for ****s and grins b4 sending it in. atleast ud be able to see if the error is rom based or an actual hardware malfunction.
My Galaxy S2 has been working great until today. Suddenly Google Maps will not open. I've cleared the cache, data, removed it from the phone rebooted and then reinstalled the application. It starts up, freezes for a moment and then crashes.
The other problem is my phone no longer get's a GPS signal. Before and after rebooting it. I downloaded a GPS tester and it's showing 1 satellite in range, which makes no sense.
My phone is rooted, stock.
Anyone have any ideas? I googled the google maps crashing issue and there's hundreds of threads but no real solutions.
I just uninstalled the Chainfire3D Pro drivers and google maps now opens. Why would those two conflict?
Edit: Still not picking up any satellites.

No. I would like to try to solve the issue before I give up and resort to that.
My old phone used to be able to download the satellite positions to help improve the speed at which it got signal. Does Android have anything like this?

Seems to be working, I will update if I get anywhere. It's at least showing more than one satellite now.
Didn't work.
The only solution was to take out the battery and re-insert it.

Yeah. Use GPS Status and Toolbox.
I have been having an issue with WiFi where it won't disconnect when leaving a hotspot. The device shows that it is still connected even though I'm miles from the router and won't pick up 3G. I performed a hard reset and on a fresh load everything appeared to be fine. When I walked out of WiFi range 3G picked up immediately. This morning, the issue is back.
Based upon doing a factory reset and it working, I believe it must be an app issue. Does anyone know of any apps that would cause a wifi lock or otherwise prevent the hand-off? I have over 150 apps installed and would prefer not to go one by one if someone can point me to any known issues.

how did you get to that point? did you install the pre-rooted updated ROM? if so did you also apply the radio update? (i really don't know if it needed done separately from the ROM, but i know there was a radio update included with the OTA)

I followed the guide at the following link and it worked perfectly for me. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1770501
Thinking through this further I did restore the wifi ssids from a titanium backup. TB restores data only - could there be an issue with that? I'm just really puzzled here.
I just did more testing. If I turn "Best Wi-Fi Performance" off I can get the device to switch to 3g when I'm out of range. I'd like to retain this setting but it obviously doesn't handoff correctly. Is there a timeout setting somewhere?

hi guys i have been testing my galaxy s3's GPS. i am using osmand app as my GPS app. sadly the app could not find any satellites and pin point my current location. even if i leave my S3's GPS active for a more than 5 minutes it could not get any satellites even if i am standing on a open area.
what should i do? how can i reset my GPS?
thanks in advance
Turn mobile data/wifi on and then try to use GPS. If GPS receiver doesn't have fresh AGPS data, cold start will take from 10 minutes to infinity.

Agree with you. Turn mobile data on. GPS or Glonass receiver use mobile network to fix the signal. When your position is done, you can turn off mobile data.
oh do you really need the mobile data active? was it possible to get your exact location without the use of wifi or mobile data? just your GPS? because osmand can download the maps offline then just use the GPs data to pin point your location. have you guys tried using the osmand app?
thanks
GPS receiver needs to download some (4-5 kilobytes) of data from server. This is called A-GPS, Assisted GPS. Without it, GPS still will lock onto satellites, but it will be 20-30 minutes instead of 2-3 seconds.

I just tested my s3's GPS today in open air and got a lock within two seconds. phone locked 15 satellites. My phone is running completely stock rom and kernel.
So as others suggested, you should turn wifi or mobile data on so that A-GPS could work.
If you are worried about your app downloading more data and cost you money eventually then you may try app named "GPS Test". Its a very simple app and gives you some key info like satellites in view and locked to plus accuracy etc. It doesn't download any maps etc. Once you get locked, you can close the app and open your desired maps app.

Hi there,
I also have an issue with my GPS. Navigation is stuck at Searching for GPS.
Also when I run GPS test, it does not see any Satellites. I have my mobile data and WIFI on, and also tried to update the agps data with fastergps.
I have found different threads suggesting to uninstall maps but that did not help either.
Any ideas? (the issue existed on 4.0.4 stock, and also on latest aokp 4.1.1 build 3)
Thanks.
Also the GPS icon flashes briefly (like twice) and then disappears. Watching the notifications the same thing happens - Searching for GPS- appears briefly and then dissappears.
Is this the normal behaviour?

That usually means the phone has stopped searching for satellites for any reason, these usually are app-related.
Please download GPS TEST from Play store and report if it can find and lock on any satellites. If not or if it keeps loosing the connections, then something is wrong.
Make sure you don't let the screen turn off during the fix since that will disable the GPS.

I have tried GPS Test and it sees 0 satellites. I have also tried a couple of other apps with no success.
Even with GPS test running, display on, I still observe the same flashing of the icon and notification popping up, then disappearing after 2 seconds and reappearing again...
Have same problem. I tried GPS test. It take about 5-10s to lock the GPS. However, it will dropped after sometimes.
If some of you guys are not running stock ROM, then there might be kernel related.
I tried Temasek's newest kernel yesterday on my AOSP MIUI ROM, but couldn’t get a gsp fix.
Went back to siyah kernel and got fix within seconds.
Also try setting your regional pool with fasterfix

Aluminum Case
I thought my GPS was busted as it showed which satelites were available (agps had downloaded) but it woudn't lock.
I then took my aluminum case off the phone and discovered that this was interfering with the GPS lock.
So take your case off before assuming that the GPS is buggered. *sigh*
"My gps wasn't working on my phone. I took it to the Verizon store after I had flashed back to stock, they messed with it for a little while and then ordered me a refurbished one. I received it the next day and when I powered it on guess what the gps didn't work. So I called tech support and to my surprise the person that answered the phone actually knew what she was talking about.
She told me the gps issue is a Samsung issue, (even though is only effects Verizon and sprint phones) they are working on an update to fix it. But in the mean time she told me how to do a work around to get it working. Here is what she had me do."
Go to Settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to Google services framework
clear data
go to settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to maps
clear data
uninstall updates
Go to location services
turn off VZW Location service(leave it off to)
Power cycle phone
update maps from android market
now the gps should be working.
I used to have a note 2 a couple months ago and every AOSP/AOKP ROM that I flashed, there was issues with the GPS and the navigation didn't work. I am currently running an s4 on the latest stock ota and there is no root method yet, and I'm sure there won't be a boot loader unlock method for it. So I'm considering going back to a note 2. I was just wondering if the GPS issues had been fixed? Thanks guys!

I had that problem after flashing Carbon. I made a nandroid of Carbon, restored my fully functional JellyBeans' nandroid and booted into it, got GPS lock, went back into recovery and restored Carbon, rebooted and got GPS immediately. No GPS problems since.
Yeah I remember being able to get a lock after running GPS in a touchwiz ROM, but I was wondering if anyone had ever gotten a fix for the entire issue. I know GPS works on the S III for AOSP ROMs. Just curious. Thanks guys!

I have not had that problem in a long time. I don't even think it was a problem for everybody.
After rooting I cant get a lock indoors.
Before rooting it could almost tell me which room I was in.
Outdoors its fine.
The compass is another story.
In vehicles the compass is WAY OFF, but indoors or out of the car its fine. :screwy:
Looking for a fix as well
i have tried so many ROMs to get this GPS working and nothing has done the trick, not even a TouchWiz based ROM. I flashed 'clean rom' yesterday from CM11 (which i miss) so I could have gps for my holiday travels but it gave me not a drop of connection. I might as well just go back to CM since it's not working...
I have been searching Google all morning for a fix with no solutions.
It is a well known issue for GPS to not work in AOSP roms. Always before you flash CM/AOKP or any AOSP rom you MUST get a GPS lock in a stock based ROM, then boot into recovery and flash the AOSP Rom. Should fix it, every time. Then you should be able to jump between any AOSP Roms with no issues.

If you are having trouble getting a lock even in the stock TW rom, try downloading this app... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
Install it, open it, you will find a setting in the menu called "clear a-gps state". That has fixed it for me in the past.

This has been the most persistent bug for me just as with the OP. This app was unable to fix my lock problem and I've flashed a couple of times to get a lock in CleanROM, a stock based ROM, and then overlayed my Nifilim on top. Fully clean wipes each time but no luck.

This isn't unusual as a compass is always affected by close proximity to large metal masses (your car) and to other field generators (power lines, antennae, etc.). You'll see the same behavior in physical compasses so don't break a sweat trying to correct firmware for this behavior.
The GPS problem is another story, of course.
