Edit:Build.prop - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can somebody show me how to edit /system/build.prop file to get more apps from the playstore? I've been trying it the last 2 days with no success.

[Q] Root Explorer can't save Edits to Files

Using Root Explorer, haven't been able to Edit files and save them. For example, when I want to edit build.prop root explorer will not save the changes. Yes system is mounted RW, I can edit it in another file manager then copy the file into the right place and it saves. Any ideas, this has been a issue since I got my SGSII regardless of the rom on it.
Can you edit other files? I just long-clicked on a .txt file and selected Open in Text Editor. Changed a number and then hit menu > save changes. Saved no problem and I do this quite a bit.
I gave up on root explorer and moved on to root browser. It does everything, and on the xda forums, you can make it pro for free. Search for it, you will be pleased.

[Q] JB 4.1.2 - mp3 will not play....

I just upgraded my Note I to JB 4.1.2 and lost all ability to play mp3's. I have tried using Player Pro, Walkman, and Ambling Book Reader. They all return errors saying that the file cannot be played. I have reinstalled the apps and rebooted to no avail. I also reformatted my SD card and reinstalled my music and books, again to no avail. I presume that I have lost (or corrupted) my codecs. Any help is appreciated. Thanx in advance.
Change two lines in the build.prop file and reboot.
A little more help:
Change 2 build.prop lines to match below. System/build.prop
lpa.decode=false
lpa.use-stagefright=false
It goes without saying your phone is rooted and you have a file editor app.

I found the two lines (both set to true) but when I tried to save the file I get "File could not be saved." error. Please note that I am not an expert with either Android or Linux, so you have give detailed instructions. Thanx
UPDATE: I was using Astro and was not given an option to change the permissions. I then used Root Explorer, changed the permissions, successfully edited and SAVED the file, and then changed the permissions back to their original settings. My mp3's now play. Thank you everyone for their assistance.

[Q] How to edit graphics in a Non-System Android App?

I wanted to change the graphics of a certain app to my liking. But I guess it can't be achieved in the non-system apps at least not by me. I tried the apktool to decompress it and then edit the the files I needed to, but it won't compile back?! Can anyone tell me what is going wrong. I have attached the whole screenshot of what error my apktool is showing me.
Also in the build folder I'm only getting classes.dex file and nothing more.

I try to edit in Apk editor but it goes back to before

Hello there.
I'm trying to edit an APK file.
I have root access.
It's a file in this location /data/user/0/"package"/.....
It's 3 lines I'm trying to change, they are URLs.
I change the information in root Explorer, in APK editor (edit data, root) and i manage to save it and install the new APK but when I start the application it resets the file to it's original information...
Can anyone assist me with this?
I would be very thankful.
