If it's not supported by the phone already then no you can't, searching would tell you this

Is this possible? I dialed *#2263#, selected the combi bands, then rebooted, and I had the 3g icon.
little bit of google searching:

Thank you, I saw that and a few others. I guess what I mean is - am I getting 3g speed, or just an icon. How can you confirm this?

It has been discussed time and time again on these forums.
The vibrant is able to get 3g speeds from AT&T because it supports the 1900 UTMS frequency. AT&T uses BOTH 850 & 1900 but mostly 850.
I believe it was confirmed on the official Samsung website that the vibrant works on 1700/2100(AWS)/1900/2100 3g frequencies.

Correct. You'll get 3g speeds, but you wont get as good reception and will most likely drop back to edge more often that you normally would on tmobile.
Thank you, gentlemen.

Does anyone have a Flyer in the US? Have you tried it on T-mobile's network? Engadget says its compatible but i'm curious to know if its compatible with their 3G or only compatible with their 2G network.
The specs say 3G Bands to be 900/2100 if I'm not mistaken and I thought that tmobile required both 1700 and 2100 to work on their network. Anyway I would like to find out for sure.

General 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
have a look here
So if I'm gathering you are saying the Flyer has 900/1700/2100 and US T-mobile is 1700/2100. Is AWS=1700MHz band? If so that would be spectacular!!!

Just because its on GSM doesn't mean that it is compatible with their 3G network. It might be stuck on 2G.
It doesn't matter. It's too expensive to be worth buying an imported Flyer. I'm pretty sure Tmobile will be carrying this tablet in the States. Buy it on contract and save about $400.
yes but i think is wifi only.
In one of the other threads in this Flyer forum, a 3G Flyer user says no phone feature
Can this be true???

Just wondering since the phone has support for the 2100mhz band, would it be possible to unlock and use on tmobile, and would it recieve 3g or HSPA+ speeds on that band. Anyone know? Seems like a great phone

Hi guys,
I am using 77.30P radio in Brazil and having problems with the signal, the carriers here are a mess, the same carrier uses from 850mhz to 2100mhz...
My question is, what basebandd (radio) can i flash which uses all those frequencies?
If someone can help me out by pointing the know frequencies for the most common radios available it would be of great help!
Thanks in advance
All AT&T radios can use UMTS (3G) 850 and 2100 if I recall correctly.

Do you know where can i find that information for sure?
If this issue is not related to baseband, i have to start looking somewhere else...

Google what bands does AT&T use for 3G. But as I said, I think it's 850 and 2100.
AT&T uses the 850 and 1900 bands for 3G. As for the radio version, use the one that came with your phone. The atrix supports W-CDMA 850/1900/2100 for the AT&T version but mine in addition to those listed above, supports the 900 band as printed on the box.
Can i flash st18a with this one>ST18i_4.1.B.0.587_CE_1252-3693?
If not, where can i get st18a stock firmware?

I don't think there's a significant change.

Where exactly are the differences noted? Does it affect ability and accessibility to get 2G, 3G, or 4G frequencies?

You can check gsmarena for the specs: http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_ray-3972.php
As far as i know, you don't need to worry about the firmware, as there doesn't appear to be country or carrier speciffic versions of the baseband.

Yes, but the ST18i and ST18a are different precisely because their hardware (radio) can only operate on certain frequencies, i.e.
3G Network
ST18i - HSDPA 900 / 2100
ST18a - HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
