Is there a way to disable them. I always accidentally hit them when I'm using the S note app
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
You mean the capacitive buttons? I don't think there is an easy way to do it, you'd pretty much have to rewrite the framework. Maybe someone good in the kitchen has already done this and can help you. Good luck.

Some apps like lecturenotes allow you to disable the button while writing.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
There is a thread in here about this.. and you should read the discussion about it... perhaps search with key word 'disable Capacitive buttons'?
Edit: this isn't the thread/discussion I was referring to but I just came by this piece of information, check it out....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26651401
PLEASE BE SURE TO LET ME KNOW HOW IT WENT
because I want to disable those buttons myself but haven't had chance to root my Note and install custom ICS yet. Good luck!
Getting into the framework is the only place I have seen this

Is there any way to change or remap the useless "Search" soft key on the ATRIX?? Maybe someone could make a script that one could follow or maybe an app.... I did a search but nothing turned up for the ATRIX..
Thanks in advance!!!
eyo OP,
All I'm aware of is that certain apps can be swapped out for the Search key LONG press.
For example, I've remapped it to take me to Quick Settings so I can toggle GPS, wifi, autorotate etc from within an app without having to exit it. Another app it mentioned being able to map the Long press to was Miren browser (i've since switched to Boat mini. smaller footprint is all, nothing really wrong with miren's functionality)
As for completely remapping it? search function and all? I'm not so sure, and (sadly) I certainly don't have the dev skills to fiddle with any policy/build.jars
Sorry I couldn't help more.
All that I get for my search key long press is vlingo or voice search....

check this thread out...just read carefully. Might be of some help, but make sure you know what you're getting into.

Probably because those are the only two apps the system detects as viable. An app I saw mentioned was "Launchkey"...looks like the author for the linked thread is developing both. Seems to be what you're looking for. Just make sure the Atrix is liberated enough to meet the req's for those apps. Looks like it needs a lot of permission type deals.
Good luck.
Excellent!!!! When I get to a computer i'll hit up the thanks button in your favor
BTW- im running the new AT&T ATRIX software 4.5.91 with an unlocked bootloader... works fantastic...

+1 I am having the same problem
Try searching for an app called Button Remapper on XDA. Or you could edit the file in /system/usr/keylayout/ruby-keypad.kl
I haven't messed with it on this phone, but you should be able to change the function of the buttons, make it not wake the phone, or just leave it blank. I'd make a backup before messing with it, save a copy of the original files, and when you edit them try to make them look as much as possible to original as you can add far as formatting and spacing.
If this is over your head, be very very very careful. Or don't do it, haha. Good luck!

I don't think its too over my head, but ill still be very careful. Thanks again.

A final step not mentioned, you then need to hit Menu and then Save, otherwise your changes won't stick.

What he said. Lots of reading. Plus the longer you wait, the easier and more bullet proof the root process will get. This is not like waiting endless months for an at&t update. There will be safe reversible one-click options before the end of the week most likely.

Now that we have root, does anyone know how to install the MOD we had for the SG3 where it would add on screen soft keys and make the home button ONLY wake up the phone. It would also disable the capacitive buttons....I miss this so much...absolutely hate the Samsung home button.
Thanks ahead of time!!
On-screen nav is literally one or two line changes. There's guides all over this site. Why dont you search and maybe figure it out yourself.

I would be afraid to follow a guide that wasn't listed specifically for this phone. Your response is kind of uncalled for.
Edit: This works.. I just did it. It is from the Sprint Note 2 forum... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34247225&postcount=14

seriously. please do us all a favor and get a different phone so we don't have to deal with you.
anyway. i wasn't really happy with the way this looked or worked so I went back. But if tweaked it could look / function better. It changed it so that if you hold the home button on screen and physical you get S-Voice. The on screen nav was really big also and the page indicators were covered by icons. It just looked and felt sloppy and there was no way to customize anything obviously.

Only thing I don't like is this kind of messes with the dialer DPI, and now the top of recent calls and favorites is being cut off by a big block of blue.
Edit: On Bean's new ROM, the top names are still covered, but the "blue" block is now transparent stuff just a blue border, so the names are now visible, but you can only touch the part of the name that sticks out from the bottom of the block. This is definitely more manageable though.

Yes I agree...I will put up with it though...gotta have onscreen buttons!!
In case any developers are looking for new ideas to fold in....
I would like to see a custom circular menu surround the spen tip when I long press and have about 12 customizable options in the "full circle" menu. It seems like a waste that long press with the pen does the exact same thing as my finger. Something like Pie but full circle.
What do you want to see?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I'd like to see the AOKP octo lock screen with customizable shortcuts/apps and icons as well as the AOKP toggles in touchwiz roms
How about google wallet? JK I would like to see an option for a stock jellybean note 2 with s-pen capabilities, or maybe a siri like feature that works better than S-Voice. For the love of god im from michigan and have a "normal" accent and that stupid thing CANNOT ever get what I say right, Siri never had any problems during my brief stint on an iphone 5, neither does the google now.
The lmt launcher is only thing I added. That's the only thing the note 2 is missing. Something that keeps you from reaching across the device for the back key.
I would love for the Note 2 to allow any app for the Multi-View function w/out root... =)

I'd like customization of the notification drop down (remove toggles, remove brightness slider). As well as true TABLET MODE on touchwiz, something akin to Paranoid Androids hybrid set up.
I feel the tablet mode mod that exists now leaves something to be desired. That's not to say that I don't appreciate whoever came up with it to begin with, I would just like a little more polish.
