Hey everyone!
In short, is there a difference between the SBF from two different carriers of the milestone x2?
Long: I have a MX2 through Cellcom (local company cellcom.com). Currently, there is no SBF for my specific carrier. I know nTelos and Cellcom carry almost the exact same phone and I also know there is an nTelos SBF for the milestone X2. So, my question is, if I use the nTelos SBF for recovery of mine (cellcom)... would this be fine for my phone? Does anyone know exactly what would happen?
Thanks so much!

nope, not with the ntellos one anyway

It doesn't work. At least the sbf from ntellos doesn't, I am having to bring my phone in today to Cellcom to get it fixed. The sbf will flash, and you will have a phone that boots up and works fine, except that the network settings aren't correct, so no voice, texts, or data.

I am just saying the ntellos SBF does not work if you have a Cellcom phone. When I brought my phone in to get fixed at the Cellcom headquarters in De Pere they attempted to fix it but couldn't. I had to buy a used phone for the full retail price
Upside is I am pretty happy with my used phone.

Damn, sorry to hear that. Surprised to hear that they couldn't fix it.
Wow never thought I'd meet another person with cellcom in my life that would try something like this...
Did you do a nandroid backup before flashing your phone?
Nandroid backup
Flash the nTelos SBF
Reinstall the backup
In theory it should work... someone else tried it and it worked fine but now this kinda scares me. lol
How much was the used phone?
Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I have Cellcom as well. I had a MX that got too slow for my taste, so my brother let me have his spare MX2. Maybe by now you already tried this, but when I had the MX, I was able to successfully use the nTelos SBF without overwriting the baseband. Phone, Texts, MMS, and all worked fine. You just can't use RSD Lite to SBF. You have to use SBF_Flash in a Linux distro.
Since I just got the MX2, I have a lot of researching to do, so don't quote me on this. Though, SBFing the X2 in Linux should be the same--at least in my mind--as the X.
Yepp its true! What you said is 100% true with sbf_flash and Linux. I'm running cm10 currently but probably going back to eclipse soon waiting for cm10 alpha 3. If you have any questions just ask.

when it comes to motorola phones its best to use sbf flash for any flashing especially if its a phone on a small carrier... unless your a rsd lite expert. though beware using sbf flash doesnt always give you a clean start ive found that after a flash i still have all my data and most of my settings still set. though if your worried about that you can always boot into stock recovery and do a factory reset.

I'm glad you resurrected this thread. I have a Milestone X2, had CM10, bricked it, and SBF'd using the nTelos SBF and it didn't write over the baseband. It actually used the same baseband that Cellcom uses for this phone (explanation here).
I DID use RSD Lite with SBF on Windows in the process, but since the configuration was all wrong with the phone, I had to take the phone to Cellcom's HQ in De Pere to re-flash it to THEIR version of 2.3.6. They were able to re-flash it successfully, though I wasn't lucky enough to get my hands on whatever image they use to re-flash it.
Lol you just pointed me to my own thread on the DroidXForums. Thanks for that!
I have a decent working knowledge of Cellcom's X and X2 phones. I just wish I knew how to get the actual images from Cellcom.

I'll pass on the iPhone. I like Android a lot. It's like my experience with Windows (and more recently, different Linux distros). Anytime I screwed something up, I fixed it and learned from it. I enjoy this stuff even if I'm supposed to be doing something else. I had to SBF my MX many many times.

sbf does not flash over user data, or setting, using rsd lite or ezSBF/sbf_flash
that's what wiping data in android recovery is for
wiping data is recommended, to prevent bootlooping and other errors, but not required, unless it bootloops

I also have cellcom running x2 MB867 , I ran RSD Lite v5.3.1 to flash nTelos SBF yes it will flash but no voice, text.data...So what did was to call ##7764726 then 000000 and resete phone number then called *228 to update PRL the phone works now.it still has nTelos in network status about phone....not sure if that will have any affect on how its working ......
You can bring it back to cellcom in DePere and tell them you need the carrier files flashed on the phone and they'll do it no problem to fix all your problems. Next time you SBF use sbf_flash and linux and you won't have the carrier problem anymore.

hi
My BELL Atrix has problem with the touchscreen
its either hypersensitive or not sensitive at all
I am sure it need repaired...
however, I have flashed to 2.1.1 French Orange ROM and greyblurred
so what should I do before sending this phone back to BELL since there is no Bell sbf file available?!
URGENT since this phone is unusable right now
and btw this touchscreen problem is not software-related cuz it happens on Stock, 1.8.3 and 2.1.1, so hardware problem for sure...
how did you get 1.8.3 on there?
anyways try changing the settings in this app.

I think you have the ghost finger problem that I do. I tried this and it worked for a bit, problem would come back up from time to time. For now i have come off of Greyblur/gingerblur and just used rooted 2.1.1 and no longer have the problems, I was about to bring it in to bell but was worried about the same thing. at some point we gotta get a bell sbf just for scenarios like this.

Recently flashed the Windows Phone 7 look-a-like rom, and it totally f'd up my phone. SBF'd to 2.2, but then when I tried to activate my phone, it wouldn't let me. Just boots up to the "Touch Android to Begin" screen, and when I tap it, it asks to activate. When I say yes, it plays that annoying Verizon music, then starts beeping every few seconds, and then after maybe 2 minutes, it tells me that my number must be 10 digits long. Then it just says "Programming Failed."
Could it be that I have a phone already activated on that line? (An iPhone) Should I try activating my Droid 1, then activating my X2? Any other suggestions?
PS: I don't care what anyone says, the iPhone sucks. It is extremely slow, even before I jailbroke it. My Droid 1 runs circles around it and my X2 blows it out of he water.

You can only have one device activated on one line at a time.
You must first go to verizonwireless.com and put your X2 back on that line before you can activate it.
Before you can activate a phone using *228 option 1, you have to put the phone's HEX MEID into Verizon's system, or their system will deny the phone activation.

I activated my iPhone fine without putting it into myVerizon. I just walked into Verizon, because at first it wasn't working. I asked the guy and he just told me to use the same password that we use to make changes at the store. The phone never left my hand and he never did anything to it.
Can't access myVerizon account because my mom lost the password for the main account, and neither of us have had the time to call and get the account unlocked and a new password. Only account we can access shows info on my sister's line, and we can't do anything from that login.

Did that 2 or 3 times. Still starts beeping after the woman on the automated message stops talking. Kinda sounds like digits are being put in, when they aren't, there isn't even a keypad on the screen.
...and sbf worked correctly, no issues?
I would try to redownload the sbf file and rsd again.

Did you Factory Reset/Data Wipe, Cache wipe, Dalvik cache wipe, THEN flash the rom? I've had 2 confirmed flashes(other than the many I did to test). I'm just trying to clarify that this ROM didnt "F up your phone", TBH I think you can flash the rom from 2.3.3 official and not be on the Atrix Port previous to flashing. But I wouldn't chance it. If you want to flash my rom on your phone, SBF 2.3.3 and activate phone, Root, Bootstrap, FactoryReset/CacheWipe/DalvikCache wipe you phone YOU NEED TO DO ALL THREE, Flash Atrix Port, then Flash GBP7 v.3 then reboot phone. You shouldn't have any problems after that.
After reading your post again, Were you on 2.2.2 before you flashed this? If so THAT is the reason why the ROM didnt work. You needed to be on 2.3.3 .. As for activating, Were you roaming when you tried to activate? Regardless, I don't think you can activate that phone while your iPhone is on the same line. You need to call verizon customer service to resolve that issue.
Please note, that I am just trying to reiterate that my rom isn't broken, and also trying to help you.

I've never sbf'd to gingerbread. I've always sbf'd to froyo then installed the pre-rooted GB then root, install bootstrap, and then flash whatever rom, even the WP7 rom. never had any issues other than one time that the sbf didnt download the last 1MB of the sbf file and that caused the sbf not to install correctly. thats why i think that the SBF file needs to be downloaded again and retried.
but thats just my 2 cents.
Do what ya gotta do man, just trying to help ya out. Just ensuring you did flash over 2.3.3 while doing the 3 wipes. Did you try with the atrix port installed before flashing the wp7?
Atrix rom was installed first. But yeah, that's just whatever.
Trying to not have to contact Verizon. Hate going through those outsourced tech supports..I think everyone does.
I'm pretty sure it SBF'd correctly. Didn't post any errors and it said the same thing it said the first time I SBF'd (from Eclipse to Stock) I SBF'd to 2.2 then was planning on flashing the pre-rooted GB, then flashing Eclipse.
Sigh, I guess I'll just stick with my crappy iPhone, since the Prime is coming out soon.. If I really get sick of this thing then I'll just deal with talking to tech support and switching over.

Download the sbf for the official 2.3.3 and flash that. Then run petes one click to get you a rom... or u can get the 2.3.4 and wait for a rom, but the stock on it is actually 4 million times better than the 2.3.3 or 2.2.2 .. sounds good let me know something.
I bought a Motorola Photon and unlocked the boot loader, rooted, Clockwork Mod Recovery'd, tried the whole Sprint phone unlocked for all carriers, then flashed CM9.
I tried to sbf back to stock and somehow (assuming I downloaded the wrong file along the way) I now have a Motorola Electrify that tries to run on U.S.Cellular.
I have subsequently downloaded all three stock sbf files on ShabbyPenguin's website and none of them will flash. (Super mega thanks to Shabby!)
I apologize if this is a duplicate thread. I've been searching all over this forum and the general interweb since roughly 9:00pm last night. Does anyone know a way I can force my phone to allow the flash that keeps failing on "re-enumeration"?
I come from mostly Samsung devices and RSD seems to be the closest thing to "download mode" but in download mode you can pretty much flash anything. Sorry this is long and rambling.

Yikes... I think once people flash that Electrify SBF by mistake, they are screwed.
Well, crap.
Take it to nearest Sprint store ask someone there to reprogram it you tried to do a system update and the battery died in the middle of it and how your phone is now is the end result if you have insurance it will be free to program it and if it fails to program should get new/ refurbished one for free or at the worst what ever the replacement fee is worth a shot worked for me once I tried to flash an sbf and my damn battery drained completely. Took it to Sprint store said the above and received the above. Gl

I don't have insurance.
If you dont have the insurance it will cost you $35 for a replacement phone. I bricked mine without insurance and had to cough up the $35 for a new one. They tried reflashing my phone for free though but it didnt fix issue, so they should reflash it for you no problem without charging
Do you think they'll do it even though its booting up as an electrify on U.S.Cellular?

Honestly, it depends on who you see. As a Sprint employee who works at a S&R store, and into rooting myself, I'd have no problem with it (Upstate NY btw). But technically, since it's unlocked, its broken the warantee, and if you go to a store thats very by the books, it's gonna be iffy. If you can, go to a serice and repair store that IS NOT corporate, and likely they'll do it for you. If they ask if you rooted it, just say yes, and one of two things will happen. Either they'll say "sorry, we can't help you" and then you go to a different store, because trust me, that **** doesn't get noted or anything, or since the guy knows what rooting is, he's probably into it himself and will sympathise and get you a new one.
Sprint service and repair store turned me down. Looks like I'm just gonna keep at it. I figure I'll get it at some point. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'll give it a try.

Does you phone say unlocked ?
Currently, it does not say unlocked. It also gives me an error message if I try to execute any fastboot commands aside from:
moto-fastboot -w
&
moto-fastboot reboot
Motorola is saying all I can do is send it in to them. I can get into RSD mode but nothing will successfully flash. I'm starting to think they might be right. I'm just so used to having Samsung phones. They're relatively easy in comparison. If anyone has any ideas, I'm open to suggestions.
Try # moto-fastboot -w and then rds unlock then #moto-fastboot erase recovery #moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery-cyan-photon3.img (cwm) and you should be good! *cross fingers*

Yeah, that is not going to work either.
That electrify ROM is a PITA when placed on the Photon.
I was able to exchange mine at the local store, but I luck out in the fact that they LOVE me there.
My exchange didn't cost me a dime either. However by that time the phone wouldn't charge either, so it wasn't booting, so they couldn't see the unlocked or the US Cellular boot animation.
Plus the fact the the owner and one of the techs were running Photons really helped.
Good luck.
I have the same problem I think the only way to solve this is to actually unlock it and use a custom rom. OR wait for Sprint to release a 2.3.5 rom to flash since you have a 2.3.5 bootloader I basically have a useless phone now

Ok, I've tried that. Basically what I've found is that the 2.3.4 sbf for both the Photon 4G and the Electrify are unlockable, but the 2.3.5 which is available for the Electrify comes with a non unlockable bootloader. Somewhere along the line I must have accidentally flashed that and now I'm screwed. There is no way to downgrade without unlocking and no way to unlock that bootloader at this time. Sorry for the bad news to anyone else in this predicament. If anyone comes across a solution, please let me know.

try "frying" the phone phone/cpu so u can get it replaced without them seeing it unlocked ?
More or less that is what I did. By the time I brought my phone into the local store, it wouldn't even turn on.
Now when the tech put his charged battery into the phone, it showed whatever it did, but I was taken care of.
So, I rebooted my phone yesterday. When it restarted it came up to the "touch the android to begin" screen. Kind of wierd. I had been running cm7 for the last few months. After I went through and set everything up, I tried to reinstall a few of my apps. But, it wouldn't let me install anything. It kept saying that there wasn't enough memory. I tried rebooting. It was right back to the set up screen. I thought, "no big deal. I'll just sbf back to stock and start over"
This is where the soft bricking started. I tried to SBF back to 2.3.4. It failed. Although, it will try to boot. It's currently boot looping the stock animation.
RSD will make it to the point where it tries to reboot to BP pass through. It'll get to around 9%. Then, it fails and gives this error.
"failed flashing process. failed flashing process. interface ap-os:failed flashing subscriber unit. device api error: 0xe0020093 Address: 0x800120 Command: ADDR (0xE0222093): phone connected"
It will boot rsd. But, it will fail. I also tried wiping data. But, it just hangs there.
Is there a way to fix this? Or, is it completely screwed?
The memory err makes me think you have a bad dx2.
Also rsd failing seems to confirm this. Rsd always works!
RSD Lite doesn't always work, that's why ezSBF was created
ezSBF DX2
RSD will make it to the point...It will boot rsd. But, it will fail

not sure what you mean? it won't go into rsd support any more, or rsd lite continues to fail?
Sorry about the confusion. My wording sucked on that one.
RSDlite continues to fail.
I'll have to try ezsbf. Hopefully it will work.
Also, I forgot to add to the OP, it will also hang when trying to wipe data or cache in stock recovery.

yes that's not good
take it back to Verizon
Yep. It's toast.... ezSBF made it through. Then, It hung at wiping data.
Now, I get several errors in stock recovery. All of which start with, "E: Can't mount /recovery/..."
On a better note, I took it back to verizon. I'm now the proud owner of a Galaxy Nexus. Honestly, I think it has more problems than the X2. The signal strength is just trash... I think it's going back tomorrow.
Any suggestions on what to swap it for? Razr Maxx or rezound??

Alright NEW PLAN GUYS
How do we **** up our ram so we get Nexuses?
(this is assuming Ranger got it subsidized lol)

You know I have been waiting for someone to confirm what I thought was true about these htc & sami phones- they suck as phones. Not just you but others won't admit it even. Lol.
if it was my choice, razr max
I think you're right. The razr may be the way to go. Although, I haven't read much about any of the new htc phones. I loved my old hero. That thing was a tank! A mile out on lake erie... No problem. Not Roaming. No mysterious $700 phone bill. It just worked. I was really hoping the same would be true of the rezound.
As far as the Galaxy Nexus is concerned, it's like dating a supermodel with brain damage... Sure, she's sexy, and she'll let you do anything you want to her. But, taking her out of the house is an embarrassment. She's utterly useless....
My dinc2 is great and calls are same as x2 so far. Why support Motorola after all the broken promises and lies?

Wow the reception is that bad? I wouldve thought it would at least be decent and good at the basics (speaker phone, reg calls etc)

Quick update in my experience, so far, with the gnex.
After flashing different radio combinations, I'm able to stay connected to the network. With speeds comparable to my x2, or better.

So here's my story, I am not entirely new to rooting as I have successfully rooted my Motorola Droid, My Droid X2, My Acer Iconia a500 (twice), My aunts Lg something, and my mothers Kindle Fire.
So a few days ago my Droid X2 started acting up, and would go hours on end sometimes without working.
I was very happy to find out that Verizon would replace it with no hassle as it was less than a year old. I got the replacement yesterday and it's working great... that is until I found out it came stock with 2.3.5 right out of the box.
Now I have always trusted XDA forums and have used them for a long time (although I finally just registered today to ask this)
The only root method I can find is to downgrade to 2.3.4 and then root, then install voodoo root protector, then upgrade.
Now I saw a few things about possibilities of bricking your phone when trying to read those tutorials (I have never had to downgrade before) and I was a bit concerned.
I was mainly wondering, I don't care about loosing data on the phone. I have a backup sd card I can use if I need to format that, and like I said, the phone is new and actually doesnt have a single app I have installed on it yet.
Is there any easy way to go back down to 2.3.4 for my situation? I just got the free phone and don't want to brick it a day later you know?
From what I gather, you can SBF back down to 2.3.4 with no problem. There may be a certain way you have to do it though. I have never been on stock 2.3.5 so I cant tell you from experience. But Everyone says it's possible.
That's my question in a nutshell
Yeah, I read a tutorial about how to do it using RSDlite, which I downloaded to my comp.
Now what I'm cautious about is white file to use. One of the tutorials had one, now while I know a tiny bit about rooting I know NOTHING about flashing it back, I wasn't sure if there was a way that this could screw up my phone, as it seems everything tested is with a phone that had already been rooted, or if there is anything phone specific in that file, or even if it actually is an OTA original (I'd rather not mess around with anything customized right now)
Whatever is the easiest method for getting be back down, I know how to take it from there as I've done it before.
Thanks for the response though!

So you have never used an SBF file? If you would have used it on your broken Droid X2 when it wasnt acting right, it might have fixed your phone. An SBF file simply wipes everything of your phone (excluding your SD card) and flashes brand new software on it. The SBF files are provided by Motorola so its not like you are using something made by a dev and can break your phone easily. You should be able to use RSD lite to flash the 2.3.4 SBF file and you should be fine. But then again, I have never SBF'd from 2.3.5 to 2.3.4 personally so I would feel bad saying go ahead with no worries and something bad happen. So wait for someone else to respond first.
Thanks!
Thanks for that info!
Also, I doubt that would have fixed my old phone, it seems pretty much like a hardware issue. The screen will display static for hours on end (think like an old tv if you didnt have cable plugged in) I think it's a loose connection somewhere or something. I didn't bother to really troubleshoot it myself though because I was like "lets see if Verizon will give me a new one" and they did, and because they didnt have any "replacements" i got a brand new one, with a brand new battery, so I wasn't going to argue the fact
Anyway, if the file is from Motorola where can I get it? I saw on a verizon forum that they were not allowed to post it there (or is it "from motorola" in the sense it was leaked?)
Thanks for all your help so far, you've been great!

Yeah, it does sounds like it was a hardware problem. Actually, I never thought about if motorola had a list of sbf files somewhere or if they were just leaked or what. I always downloaded them from threads like these. I just know they are made by motorola. You got me curious now. hmmm...
Duh
forget about my question as to where to get them, just saw the sticky at the front of this forum.
Although, it would be interesting to know if they were officially given out by motorola or leaked
