i feel kinda dumb for asking this but i cant for the life to me get to the internal storage from the PC. i think files are being saved to the internal storage instead of my SD card. i can mount the usb fine and access stuff from my sd card but dont see any option for internal storage
From my knowledge, when hooking the phone to an external source, the only contents displayed will be for the SD card.
You can access internal systems and folders via apps like ES File Explorer/Astro but I believe you can only move/change files in internal memory with root access.

Not true.
i see the files using a file manager app but thats not the point, i want to view the files on my pc
in the window that pops up (the one with Charge Only, Storage, etc.) select "Media Sync", and it should appear on My Computer (if using Windows) or Android File Transfer (an app on Mac)
Is anyone else unable to see the entire 16GB? In Internal Space I have 2.09 GB of total space and Phone Storage I have 9.93 GB of total space. Somewhere I am missing ~4GB of storage.
Is this right, is the phone hiding the OS partition or is there an issue with my phone?

Yeah just use media sync when you connect the phone to your computer. Then you can access the 16 gb via MTP.
You guys are doing better than me. I'm about to totally lose it! I can't , no matter what, get my PC to recognize my Evo as removable storage.
I've tried everything I can think of. Over the last 3 days. Tried various drivers . Tried the 32 bit HTC driver from the root thread (zedomax). Tried uninstalling HTC sync.
My old Evo still mounts as a removable drive no problem.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please, please, for the love if all that is good and fair, please share.
Thank you.
(Windows xp sp3 32 bit)
Unrelated, maybe :
Adb recognizes my phone when I type adb devices. And I can adb reboot bootloader. But when Evo is in fastboot USB, if i try a fastboot command from CMD box, it just says waiting for device. :banghead:
I NEVER had this much trouble with OG Evo. This is kicking my arse.
Please and thank you.

removable storage is only if you put in a SD card, sounds like you dont have a SD card in your phone.
i installed htc sync but still cant access the internal storage...
nope. At work on a win 7 PC I plugged in and it picked up my internal storage right away. (I don't have an SD yet, dont wanna steal the one out of my og Evo).
The problem seems to be specific to dealing with XP. I just can't figure out what it is that I need. And why my fastboot commands hang at 'waiting for device'.
I appreciate the response, but internal storage mounts just fine for me on win7, which I dont have.
Edit: sorry, let me clarify. At work on win7 it didn't show as a removable drive, you are correct. But below the listed drives, it showed up as Evo and i was able yo access internal storage. I'm just so confused what the hell to do.

Hmm I only have Win7 at home and I can get to both my internal storage and sd card just fine. We are still on XP at work so in the morning I can plug it in and see if I can help you out if you haven't figured it out by then.
Here is what I found with phones that have an internal "SD card" built in.
If you move a lot of apps to the SD card, eventually there will be an app that wont quit when you plug in the USB and tell the phone to mount the drive.
Unfortunately, I only stumbled upon this recently with my old Motorola Photon therefore I havent researched the issue enough to know what the problem apps are. I had a hunch that installing apps to the SD card had something to do with the problem and used Titanium Backup to move all the apps back to phone memory. Magically... the storage would mount.
YMMV but this is something I would try. Ironically I have the same problem again on the Evo after setting up my phone. It worked great till I restored all my apps (some of which to the internal SD card). If I get some time in the next week or two to research I will update my post with some problem apps.

its not read only, its internal memory. sort of like a non removable sd card
Imho they shoulda just made the whole internal storage include that 16gb "sd card' memory allocation and then say if you need extra space add a micro SD card and have that be the true external memory...

I want to erase and reformat the whole thing so my computer and even recovery wont get confused on which is which. Im new at this so could someone tell me the best way to format it via mac or windows.
Right now im using Beastmod
Edit: Nevermind I guess what i thought was another partition is just the phones internal storage named "HTC Storage"

You should just format it from the phone itself.
99.9% success rate.
Just thought I would throw my fix out there since I had trouble trying to run the instructions from the S-off thread using busybox.
I just used the Gparted live cd . It showed my card up as the correct size, just didn't have a partition any longer. So I just made a new partition then formatted it to Fat 32 with the full size of my card.
Now, my SD card is back to working condition.
Probably , alot of common sense just wasn't sure how many people thought of using Gparted. Windows wasn't properly reformatting it since the partition was gone.
Thanks for posting this. I figured this would fix it and I am glad to here there is a confirmation. That process really does a number on the SD card.

Wish I had used my old 8gb card. I jumped the gun and now my 32gb is screwed. Don't have a cd drive on my ultraportable pc or a flash drive even. So I'm out of luck for the time being. Won't have access to my main pc until Tuesday. This is the messiest s-off I've ever dealt with! Ah well..
How I fixed mine was after I got s-off I reformatted the card. Would not work at all until I got s-off working.

i had the same issue, it was showing up as 108kb, put it in your comupter if your running windows, it will say it needs to format it, let it format even tho it only shows 108kb, take it out when its done, put it back in and repeat the format, when you insert it the 3rd time 14.4 gb, worked for me, i had to do that process 4 times before i got s-off, cheers
Even better with this tool and works for everybody just in 2 minutes

I've done something really, really stupid. I know just enough about permissions to hang myself but good.
I have a Nook Tablet 8GB that dual boots either into a Nook, or with the SD card in, into Cyanogenmod 7.2.0-RC0-acclaim-TEAM-B.
I was trying to get my Windows 7 PC to recognize the tablet and the sd card when booted into Android. I have the ROM manager app loaded. Something I read made me think that if I ran the "fix permissions" feature of ROM manager, I could get the Windows PC to see the drives. (It does this just fine when connected via USB while booted as the Nook tablet.) So -- fix permissions ran and did a chmod on a bunch of files. Now half of my apps are gone. I can boot into Nook and I can boot off the SD card. I can start my Wi-Fi and do most other things. I just can't get to all my apps. I did make a copy of the SD card to an external drive before I did this. And, I had moved all the apps to the SD card before I copied it. Can I restore (unfix) my permissions back to where they were and everything was working? I know,I know, - I'm an idiot. Everything was perfect and then I screwed it up. Can anyone help please?

hm. usually fix permissions from rom manager "fixes" problems with apps. let me just make sure i understand what you are trying to do...
you want your win 7 pc to recognize the two drives of the NT when connected via usb right? the userdata partition (1GB if you have stock partitions) and the external storage which is your sd card?
am i understanding you correctly?
if so, all you have to do to mount the two drives onto your computer is just to enable usb mass storage from the notifications drop down menu when the NT is connected to your PC by usb.

Yes, that was exactly what I was trying to do. And yes, I did figure it out and am able to see my NT and the SD card as drives in Win7. My mistake came in when I somehow thought not seeing the drives was a permissions problem. (From something I was reading.) When I ran the "fix permissions" in ROM manager, I lost half my app icons on my screens. I'm trying to find out how to get all my apps back!

usually a reboot and reinserting the sdcard after the NT has fully booted up with solve your problems with apps not launching.
EDIT: well since you are booting cm7 through an sd card then i am not sure why your apps aren't showing up... have you tried the "move to phone" option under maange applications in the applications settings?

This may have been the problem. Not all apps can run when moved to the "SD" card (which is really just another partition on the actual SD card). You should be able to simply reload the apps from their source (Google Play, etc.). An app call ZDBox can be configured to tell you, when you install an app, if that app can be moved to the SD card. The ability to move and app and have it function properly is based o the app itself and limitations therein. Again, all apps cans be moved, but not all will work when moved.

I took out the SD card, booted into Nook, powered down. Then I reinserted the SD card and booted into Android. The apps are all back. It's still a little wonky; if I move too fast for the OS, the whole things seizes up and I lose some apps again, but the above steps get every thing going again. Thanks for the ideas.
I've installed HTC sync and Android/Java and have my EVO4gLTE rooted. I'm running Decks CM10 and love the interface. The problem is that when I turn on USB storage, only the internal SD card shows on my PC. When I would run stock Sense, it would show the external card.
I would much prefer to see the external card without having to physically remove it or copy to it using a file manager. TWRP has the option to mount internal or external SD's, and Sense gives several options when the device is connected to the PC.
I've searched multiple times and have yet to find an answer to this.
Big thanks in advance for any assistance.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't work. It only shows the internal SD card and not the external one.
Doesnt cm10 see sd as external instead of sd2? I know there was a mod to switch it around to flip it around so it sees the sd2 as sd(1).
Look in development section.
I thought the mount point swap was already included in the newer builds

Thanks very much for responding! I was wondering about two things, though:
1) will this script reverse the cards as seen only by the PC during USB mounting, or will they be reversed to the internal apps as well? In other words, will everything that was looking for something on SD0 not find it because it's now seen on SD1?
2) will this affect my external SD card such that I should back it up and/or format it beforehand? I know I should back it up anyway, but I was just wanting to know what to expect.
I really appreciate your help and input.

I tried it and it does indeed swap the drives. That was excellent work! I will probably run the script again the next time I do a full reset, since several of my apps will need to have their settings changed to recognize that drive as their location drive. By the way, do you have a script to swap the drives back?
I'm a little surprised, though, that considering how configurable CM10 is, that the ability to choose which drive is mounted to show as USB storage is not also configurable. With my Xoom, both drives show up when the device is connected to the PC.
Thanks again

Hi there,
I have a HTC wildfire [buzz] -s off, I rooted it, got cm7 on it. Now the problem is, the SD-card worked perfectly, and after a while the phone doesn't recognize my SD-card anymore. At some point it eats 4g away from my partitionated 8g SD. Then suddenly i have no SD at all anymore atleast on software cm7 running, however when I boot into recoverymode i can only have acces to that sd card while in usb mass storage device thru my pc. But can't install any apps since I was gonna install 'gapps' when i noticed SD was not recognized by cm7.... I formated mulitple times using sd-format and minitool partion a few times with different partitions one fat-32 other ext2. now 4g formatted just fat 32.
Can anybody give me a work around? I'm fairly new to rooting. So keep it a bit simple if possible.
Thanks and kind regards.
