Not sure if this has been mentioned or if its old news lol. I was using Handcent for a while now and although it works for the most part, its still buggy where it still splits up a group text or it only sends to 1 or 2 ppl in the group and creates a new group chat. So far I haven't had any issue with Go SMS Pro.

Where can I activate this feature?
In go SMS go to:
setting/application setting and check "message grouping"
Setting/Send Setting and check "MMS Group Chat"
Setting/ Receive Setting check "disable other message notification
In your default htc messaging disable notification just in case.
That's it.

I noticed now when I send group text they all go in 1 thread but I dont see multiples of the same texts I send. So I checked with a few friends to see if they see my text as a group text and some say yes some say no. Can someone else verify if the ICS messaging infact supports MMS group chat? Currently I use Handcent SMS to accomplish this but its very buggy so it would be great if the ICS built in messaging can do this now.
Didn't this happen on GB also.? Maybe im wrong.

In GB If i sent to a group in that thread there would be 4 or 5 of instance of my text in a row (depending on how many recipient). But with ICS I just see 1 instance of my text. I should rephrase my OP.
EDIT: I think all ICS does is eliminate the multiple texts showing and doesnt really do mms group chat. As I sent another group text and although my outgoing goes in the group thread once they respond I get individual responses. Oh well.
Anyhow also found this thread which I'm hoping will eventually support mms group chat (WIP).

I recently decided enough with Apple/the iphone and so far I am absolutely loving my S3 and android in general. My only major issue is group messaging within the stock messages app.
With the iPhone it would show me in a group text who messages are also sent to and allow me to reply to all within the group.
Is there a particular setting to allow this on the S3 messaging app? I really like the look/theme of the app and would love this functionality. I do realize there are 3rd party messaging apps out there but I wasn't sure if I was missing anything.
Thanks.
It's not possible with the stock sms app, or even the samsung sms app. You need a 3rd party app like GoSMS Pro, or Handcent. There is a setting in each which enables it.
What it does is it combines the MMS's for you when they come in....so at first they come in as "download"...after they download, they go into the correct thread.
Yes it is just add multiple recipients and then send.

Yea, but when the message comes back, it doesn't group the recipients back (if your recipient replied to all). Don't see a way to reply to all either...in the case that someone sends you a group text.

I see this as well. It's a shame since other phones already have the ability.

You can group people together. You can select a group(s) to have your message sent to. If your friends have only one phone number in your contacts it won't ask which one to use, and unfortunately it doesn't remember which ones you picked the next time you start a new conversation (it does remember in the thread). Unless they can reply to all, the responding messages show up as a new thread.
Perhaps you can do this with the ATT MyMsgs app, I don't know.

I heard that the ATT Messages app supports group texting, but you can't initiate a group text...very odd if its true.
HTC One X+ AT&T. I can't find a rhyme/reason on Group messaging. I can send out a group message (and others see it as that) as long as it's media (MMS). If anyone replies as text, it doesn't stay in the group. If I send out a group message that's text only, it's sent at an SMS, which completely defeats the purpose. Here are my questions:
Is there an app to replace the HTC one that resolves this?
Can I install the app from 4.2? (I understand this is resolved in 4.2).
Try GoSMS pro from the app store. Its unbelievable that Google didn't address this earlier but I think its fixed in JB 4.2.

I have GoSMS Pro, and there is an option in settings to enable MMS group messaging. It's not perfect, since my popups still show just the MMS icon, but at least works from within the app.
I use GroupMe for group messing. I also use GoSMS Pro, but you can't send mms messages with it. Have to use stock SMS program for picture messages
Handcent's group messaging works flawlessly.

So I have to choose whether or not I'm sending a SMS or MMS before I send the message? I thought Group Messages were actually MMS messages? Is it possible to load the "fixed" 4.2 app on an unlocked One X+? I mean, this kinda blows. My iPhone and even Lumia 920 did this fine...
So as much as I love this phone the one gripe I have is there is no group messaging option for us stock users. What do you guys use as far as a good messaging app? I love the stock messaging app just wish there was a group messaging option.
There's an option for group messaging either thru SMS or MMS
Where? I feel like I'm missing something. I can start a group message but if I receive a message and its a group message I get everyone's replies individually in separate threads.
I just wish there was a way to put all of those group messages in one thread. I hate seeing then separately.

I had the same problem but fixed it. Just go to your messages app and then go to settings. From there go to Multimedia messages (MMS). Then turn on group messaging and voila.

Yup, he hit it right on the money. I found this the first day in the same place. Again it's located in your MMS settings in the messaging app.

Thanks guys! Yeah I did that but it's weird, mine shows up as multimedia messages in individual threads. I don't know what else to do.

Are you trying this with a newly made group MMS? If you sent a group MMS previously and your friends are replying to that, it may not work. Try starting a new one.

Well my buddy started a group message and I received his message and everyone else's message in separate threads rather than all in one thread.
I don't believe you effect a group started by someone else. Especially iphone users. Hate when they include me.

I use GO SMS for group messaging and stock messaging for individual texts.
Edit: I enabled it and it works great! I had my bro send a group message through his iPhone and it works! No more Go SMS or Handcent! I love this phone more and more everyday.

Hello guys. I just got my HTC One. I have enabled group messaging from the MMS setting menu and have sent out a few group messages but I'm still getting responses individually. Any idea what would be the problem? Thanks!
If you sent to people who don't have group messaging...you will get individual responses because they don't have the option. I.e....I sent out a group msg to people with iPhones, HTC one and Samsung Galaxies...only the iPhone and One users were able to respond in the same group thread. The Samsung users responses were individual. I believe it's not an option on every android so there are alternatives like GO SMS and Handcent but they can be buggy. I am so GLAD that HTC embedded this option on the One. This was another reason why I chose this over the S4.
Edit: I was wrong, the S4 also has the group mms option.

Group messaging was established system wide with 4.2.2, update to a ROM with 4.2.2 and it will work great..If you don't want to upgrade and/or use a different SMS app...I love Textra SMS ...very simple and does group messaging perfectly.

Does anyone find that when sending group messages through the stock sense app to be really slow? Its like I have to wait a few seconds for the group message to go through. It really annoying

Yeah it tends to be a little slow but it's because it's converting to sms to mms message.

You all need to download TEXTRA Messaging app from the market. Works flawlessly and emoji support. Best text message app out. Updated frequently.
Ok let me preface this request with my trials:
I had an iPhone 4s before May and never cared for the blandness... But I loved how it just worked with group messaging and emojis.
I use texting for a lot of group messaging and unfortunately most of the individuals in the groups are iOS.
So I have tested group messaging with:
Our Stock Samsung Text messaging app which works probably the best, but the emojis suck on android and there is no stock Popup Quick Reply
Handcent... Which has nice Quick Reply and Great Emoji support BUT the MMS group messaging is super flaky! And this seems to be the same with most other apps too. I click right into a message right when someone responds and it lists the last responder and if I respond then it only sends the response to the last responder not the group... Also I get times where it will randomly have my responses send to all the individuals in seperate texts! Like "Me to 1, Me to 2, Me to 3, Me to 4" Instead of just Me to Group
Go SMS Pro.... Great Emojis also but same problems as Handcent
Textra... Same
Chomp... Same and it seems the worst. All group replies would go to each separately
I am trying Sliding Messaging Pro and it seems to be working better than the others but why don't the others work? I did notice with the first MMS group message it told me to adjust the MMS settings APN... I just told it to find it automatically and now it seems to work...
What has been your experience and how can I fix the other apps? I liked Handcent the most...
8sms in the play store.
Thanks so far I like 8sms... I just want more customization. Also the pictures turn to slide shows a lot!
