So I've removed the app but run into problems opening youtube links in 3 apps. They are stock browser stock messaging and Google Talk. Google Talk crashes after removing htclinkifydispatcher stock messaging just won't open links period. Anyone know which rom to copy these apps from or a way to modify these apps so we can get the normal android "how to process these links" action?

Be sure to go into manage apps, select browser, and hit clear defaults. Then, for good measure I restarted my phone. After that, you will get the option to select what program opens the links from then on.

Breaks Phone Numbers
This appears to break the ability to click phone numbers in e-mails. No apps open when clicked a phone number. I also don't see Dialer or Phone having an option to clear defaults.
Argh, this is annoying. HTC should really make sure the stock linkifier app is really detailed with its options and settings. It sounds like netierh the stock app nor root and removing it provides a good experience for linking. The only option is to load a custom ROM?
It seems like you'd have to replace any app that HTC modified to depend on htclinkifydispatcher.

Can't we just get the international version of htclinkifydispatcher.apk??
Would an older, working HtcLinkifyDispatcher.apk from Sense 3.0 be compatible?
Nevermind, that apk doesn't even exist below sense 3.6

Has anyone gotten this to work successfully on a stock-based ROM? AOSP Flavored Nonsense seems to have died on the vine, and none of my tricks with adb can seem to get this going on a BAMF based ROM.
Anyone have any luck with this?

This is in the complete wrong section but I'm going to help you anyway.
Download my File Mms.apk, place it on your Sdcard.
Remove HTC Messaging app via ADB or file explorer
Push Mms.apk to /system/app via ADB or file explorer
Then go to sdcard and INSTALL the Mms.apk
Reboot Phone
I'm not sure if pushing it is necessary before installation, but it's what always works me for. Remember this will remove your HTC Messaging app so back it up first, and if you want it back just follow these instructions except with the different apps.
Lemme know this works!
Thank you very much! The push then install was what I was missing!
Sorry for posting in the wrong part of the forum, won't happen again.

When I send it from the gallery it crashes, but I reopen it and it sends.
Shrug?
But yes, I actually removed the htc app and dropped in the stock one with root explorer, did a fix permissions, rebooted, then installed. All my messages were there, didn't need to restore them, and it worked like a champ.
MMS is acting flaky I got it to send once and now nothing. Going to try the AOSP Gallery and see if that fixes it.
Okay, install 3dGallery, and start a text message in Messages, hit menu, go to attach, picture, select gallery, select the picture and then it will send.
At least so far that seems to work.
Not quite the out of the box AOSP experience, but getting closer.
Thanks for all the help everyone!

How do I get dedicated apps (YouTube, Play Store) to open links and not the browser/chrome?
The only way I have found it to work is to not have a browser installed. On my tablet links open up the apps but with this phone the browser takes over.
The settings don't mean anything and no prompt even comes up when clicking a link asking what app I want to use to open said link, it just goes to the default browser automatically.
It like this on three ICS roms I've used.

Go to settings>apps>all go to the app called internet and make sure that you tap "Clear Defaults" then go into the browser and click a YouTube link and see if that works.
I am having the same problem. The recommendation.above does not work for me. I am using CleanRom Pro. The problem appears to be caused by the "App Association" settings where links are directed to the internet app and other possible apps (for certain links like YouTube or GooglePlay) are not listed. As far as I can tell, there is not a manual way to add apps to the various actions. Can anyone recommend a different ICS ROM that doesn't use this faulty "App Association" setting?
Its like that with Nils ROM as well.
I am surprised nobody else has this problem.

Whenever I click a YouTube link it opens in the browser instead of the App.
Is this pertaining to the "data tapping" patent that Apple somehow was awarded and does anyone have any idea how to make it work as previously intended and open in the YouTube app.

Thank Apple for this. It's part of the patent that had these phones held up in customs. It's the same on any US based Sense 3.6 rom and Sense 4.0 rom such as the HTC One X. The app that does this is htclinkifydispatcher.apk.

If you have root you can use a file explorer and rename htclinkifydispatcher.apk to something like htclinkifydispatcher.apkBAK. This will break a few things. You won't be able to open any links from the default text app, google talk will crash everytime you try to open a link, and you won't get youtube links to work in stock browser, but all other programs work fine.

Jesus Christ...I froze mine with titanium but YouTube still opens in browser. I will try it your way and see if I can live with it.
Why must Apple mess with HTC. I have had a Samsung Galaxy S and GS2 since the first Epic launched and this is seriously the one thing I hate about the EVO. Esp if I have 6 tabs open when I try to click a link.
On Viper also not that that matters.
Does any devs or anyone have any thoughts about reverting it back and having it be stable?
I would pay for the old way...I didn't always wanna use a certain app when hitting things and now I'm forced to set defaults.

The irony there would be if you did that, so you could open links to YouTube with YouTube app, then somebody texted you a link to a YouTube video. Lol
But yeah, this infuriates me The way apple screwed us!! I mean, it used to work beautifully. It was genius. Can't wait for some AOSP ROMs, as they won't suffer from this. Everyone should smash apples

If you use a third party messaging app it's fine. Honestly HTC just needs to add more options to their app associations. Sense ROMs from other countries don't have this problem so a custom sense rom using their apks would solve this problem.

Its not the right to use it that has them in trouble its the method of opening links that apple claims they have the patent. Well not claim they do have it. Its sad they would give a patent for such a common function.

Can you please extract your htclinkifydispatcher.apk from your international one x and post it so that we can install it over our american version.

Has anyone found a working method to remove the Verizon bookmarks on the stock Rom? I used Bookmarks Manager on my Rezound, but it's not compatible with the DNA. Thanks!

Anyone find a solution yet?
If someone wants to test this... it "should" remove the stock bookmarks. It MAY reset you Sense setup so you might need to restore it after. I can't test this because I delete those bookmarks from my ROM. That said PROCEED WITH CAUTION until someone test it. Who wants to be the Guinea pig? Should work fine.
EDIT:
Tested and it DID NOT reset Sense. Checked my bookmarks and I only had google dot com. That is the one I left behind. It looks like it worked like it should.
EDIT 2:
Since this did appear to work I removed it. You would probably need to add that in before flashing the ROM.

I disagree, I like the stock browser better. My Nexus 7 came with Chrome on it and the first thing I did was load the stock browser. The bookmarks are read-only and can't be deleted in the manner you specified.
You need a writeable kernel to permanently delete them, or s-off.
Thanks for the reply, but that isn't correct. I am both S-OFF and have a writable kernel (elkay 0.95) and the bookmarks still cannot be deleted. They are somehow protected from deletion. I'm ready to offer a bounty to anyone that can get rid of these things!!
The only way I have found to get rid of them is by disabling the stock browser and grabbing a different browser from the store. I know this probably isn't what your looking for but this is the only method I have found to get rid of them.

did you disable them or uninstall them. You have to be unlocked / rooted to uninstall them. It sounds like you just disabled them. If this is the case, go to the bottom of the all app list and you will see disabled apps. A factory reset will fix it as well.
