i searched the forum but i could find a fix.
after i Rooted my GSG2 with help from this thread:

my Auto brightness stopp working.
can some one help me or just point me to the right thread?

That's Chainfire root and it's the most simplest rooting process out there. So I don't think that kernel is causing the Auto brightness issue. Try again, make sure Auto brightness is enabled and put the phone under a strong light and see if brightness increases or not. If not then try a Factory Reset. Still if it doesn't work then sadly you have a bad Proximity sensor and needed to be serviced.

I Tryed the Factory Reset but it still the same no working Auto Brightness...
When i'm in a dark room and turn off the Auto brightness it jumps to the low Level of brightness... turn on again nothing hapens >> put on the Lights in the room >> nothing hapens >> put off the Autobrightness >> the Slider jumps to higher level and the same again if i redo the whole things.
So i Would say the Sensors are ok.
Could ist be that the KF3 Kernel is bugy? Can i Just flash a newer one or what have i to do?

It wont hurt to try another kernel. Try the stock one first and see if it makes a difference.

I used Stock (the only change is root and optimizations from Chainfire), but my questen was what will hapen if i use on my KF3 Device/Rom e.g. KG4 Kernel?

This i Allready Tryed same result.
I will try today to flash the original Rom (with out any Root and so on) and look what hapens when the issue still there then the phone goes back to the shop.
Try a later Kernel KH3 gives no problem.

Flashed yesterday the Original Roms with the whole procedure until Kies Updated the Phone to KF3 again. Auto brightness still not working , i was realy sure it worked before root.... now the mobile goes back.
Same issue here. Started after rooting with CF-Root kernel.

My issue is the opposite
Autobrightness is waaaay to low in almost every environment except under fluorescent lamps... Somewhere between 0-15 % when used in my dark and comfy living room.

hi all.
i have a problem on my xperia mini pro.
i dont know whats wrong.
when i lock my phone, and i want to turn it on back, it is turn off and suddenly the S.E logo appears.
seems like rebooting back.
sometimes when i make the screen timeout for 30minutes, it will also turn off by itself and restart back by itself. sometimes it goes off and no reboot back.
i have search on XDA and found that few problems like mine.
i try few solution like take out the battery, uninstall apps which maybe make my phone turn off.
i also reflash my phone to 2.3.3 and also reflash back to 2.3.4. it just goes the same. my warranty have void as i have unlock my bootloader.
i just dont root my phone yet as i think rooting my phone doesnt help this problem.
someone can help me? i really miss my phone like the old days to tweeting and facebooking without any turn off and reboot by its own.
Did you try a factory reset? This may fix your problem. But rooting could possible help.....

i've done the factory reset before. seems like it does not really help much.
not trying to root yet coz i dont think rooting can solve the problem
Does it make any difference if you start the phone with the charger plugged into it?
...or even without the SIM card or SD card? Any difference at all?

I bought the phone over from bobo. And yes it does make a difference.
This problem does not occur whenever the phone is plugged in. However while running on battery, if I leave it be and once it goes into standby, it would not turn on again.
Seems to me it went into sleep of death.
At the moment, I have no idea how to fix it. But I've found a workaround by keeping the CPU on when the display is off by using wake_lock. However this workaround is a little battery consuming.

bro i have this problem before, what im doing before was playing music on mute for it not to turn off NOT until 0.62 FW came out and the problem was solved, it doesnt turn off on stock 0.62 fw and stock 2.3.4 but the screen when locked automatically turns on and off multiple times, its annoying..really so i decided to unlock my bootloader, flashed rooted 0.62 FW from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440161, turning on and off phone and screen solved, flashed its respective ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373435, and now my phone is so stable and having no more problem.
i think the only problem i noticed just now is the back button (its not really a button) and the option button's light is turning off and on while screen is on. but thats better than your phone turns on and off or your screen.

I've done this too. Flashed the same kernel, and the same ROM as you did. But the problem still prevails in my phone. I still have to keep control of wake_lock to prevent CPU from sleeping while the display is off.
Btw, when I flashed the kernel, under my "About" in the settings, it still says .58 instead of .62.

you mean in the Settings>About Phone> in the build number it should have HYBROM V9 by boof not the kernel name like .58 or .62 if you flashed the kernel and rom correctly.
disable lockscreen
Try to disable your lockscreen in the settings menu. Maybe that helps

I am also facing the issue with phone from last week, I tried without memory card , without SIM and even change them to, I though it was software issue so I reloaded it from Sony Tool but still the same issue, cant use my phone at all until or unless I plug it on raw power. Its working fine on charging mode but with Battery its not at all working. Not sure whats wrong with it.
Could you please guide me on it, what I need to do , is it hardware issue? or related with software?
Already wiped and restore the phone as well.
Tried battery replacement as well but its not at all working.

hey...i am having the same problem.. it has jst been 2 days since i upgraded it to ice cream.. n it keeps in restarting.it show screen for 3 second and the lights dims out n restart..i did on it without sim and memory card..still it keeps on restarting..any help please

You can try a different firmware.
I have the auto shutdown problem while using DXKT5 even if i use a custom rom above it. But not in case of others.
try flashing the lastest stock rom with odin with the modem of your phone then use the custom rom u want again.
I just installed Galaxy Task 14 slim coming from CM10 Upgraded cwm to newest through Odin Flashed made a backup and installed Worked great for a few minutes Tried front and back cam out then out of nowhere the screen turned scribbled I cant see nothing not even power off or reboot buttons what do I do?

I rebooted and it seems to come up right will someone with more experience please elaborate on what may have been the cause so I can fix whatever happened.
EDIT: Keeps coming back eventualls flashing another kernal now. Any info would be great thanks.
Also tried installing CM10.1 newest out.... Same issue distorts screen with horizontal lines then just kept doing it....Had to restore twice from recovery only one rom works what up? Am I alone in this?
The only stable kernal is 2.6.36.4 but when I flash it doesnt take for newer builds...... Does anyone have the answer? If I dont put the tablet to sleep it works fine once awaken from sleep its scrambled again???

Did not realize this help section was so dead...... Anyways a few hourse later I discovered this thread pertaining to the issue... Cleared the issue right up I am on the latest cm build and running great no more sleep scribble display crap.
After updating to the OTA 4.3 my S3 now has a glitch causing the screen to occasionally black out, mostly during phone calls but also after screen timeouts when i hit the power button to turn the screen back on it'll stay black for awhile, the menu and back buttons light up and the touch sensor still works even when black. it work flawlessly before the update. I tried to root and was successful at it using the saferoot method but because of the know being lock I can not install a custom rom or recovery and the problem was still there because I was still using the 4.3 rom. So I used odin3 vs3.07 and put the stock rom back on and unrooted and the problem is still there. does anyone know how to fix this glitch or does anyone know how i can go back to the 4.2.1 rom or install the 4.4.2 rom because 4.3 has been nothing but a headache for me.
